Part 28

Mark

BamBam's words seemed to echo in my mind as Jinyoung ran ahead of me. Hand wrapped tightly around my wrist he dragged me towards the nearest house. Bam had gone in the opposite direction, saying splitting up would make the work faster. But Jinyoung had silently held onto my hand, giving BamBam a challenging look,"Mark stays with me." He had said. Bam only nodded, taking off leaving us alone to warn people of what the villagers planned to do. I was having doubts that the bandits would listen, but we had to try.

The lights to the cottage were all off except a room upstairs. As we approached the front door I prepared to knock, Jinyoung cutting off the thought as his foot came up with a force that split the door down the middle. A screech of surprise rang through the house before two figures appeared in the broken doorway. The house lights now on,"Haven't you ever heard of knocking you perverts?" A female voice sounded,"What the hell did we do to you? Whatever you want I'm not interested. Now go get me a new door." She added, her brown hair could be seen, next to an equally long set of blond. Jinyoung stubbornly stepped closer ,"What did you do to us? Nothing, but it's what's about to happen to you if you don't listen that matters."

The brunette's mouth closed, lips forming a frown. Her blond companion moved forward until she was standing outside the house. Brown eyes met mine as the blond tilted her head,"We are listening." Letting out a sigh of relief Jinyoung immediately launched into a short story that consist of "Villagers coming to kill us" and "must run away from camp as fast as possible". By the end the two girls stood, jaw-dropped, in front of us. After a few minutes of silence the brunette spoke up,"If you want us to evacuate because we all might die of an explosion otherwise, then you are going at it all wrong." Without another word she raced down the porch steps onto the dirt road. Her blond partner followed hesitantly, muttering,"She will be the death of me."

Jinyoung and I shared a confused glance at the bold move before following them. Once she reached the middle of the street, the brunette started yelling,"Everyone get out of your house! We're all gonna die!" My eyebrows furrowed in confusion, then suddenly shot up in horror as realization struck,"What the hell are you doing!" I screamed, lights flicking on in every house. The clueless girl smiled, proudly placing her hand on her hips as her friend stood dumbfounded,"I'm getting people out of their houses faster! We would have all died if you guys took your time, so you're welcome."

I opened my mouth to yell at the smug girl but her friend beat me to it,"Hyuna they were not taking their time, they were trying to be quiet! If the whole village can hear you, who else do you think can?" The brunette, Hyuna I'm guessing, suddenly looked taken back,"Uh......the villagers?" Just then the house the four of us had been standing in burst into flames. Hyuna and her friend screamed as their home exploded, leaving all their belongings to the fire. Jinyoung let out a gasp, backing up on instinct. There wasn't much time to stay surprised, though. Who knew when the next house would turn to ash.

It took only seconds for the surrounding houses to fall to chaos, bandits running in and out. I placed my gaze on Jinyoung and saw the fire reflect in his eyes,"Someone could have been in that house." He turned to look at me, giving the hand I didn't realize he was holding a squeeze. I couldn't tell if he was searching for comfort, or giving it as he continued,"We could have been in that house." Placing my other hand on his I wished for more time. To warn people, to keep everyone emotionally stable after all that has happened in the course of a day. To process it. The problem was, we didn't have any time,"Jinyoung listen to me," I began, eyes darting down the street were bandits wee beginning to appear,"We need to get as much people out of the houses as possible. Tell them to warn everyone else. Then we need to find Jb, he can lead them away from here into safety. Or at least form some type of plan."

Jinyoung stared at the bandit camp thoughtfully,"I think Hyuna and her friend of that first part under control." He stated, pointing down the road. I followed his gaze to a very worrying, and conflicting scene. Hyuna and her friend stood in the middle of the path, calmly getting bandits out of their houses, forming a large crowd. BamBam was among them. My first thought in that moment was that this wasn't the only street, and the other streets had no clue of what dangers they were being threatened with in that moment.

I quickly pulled Jinyoung down the street until we reached the two girls,"We need to get them in the woods." I gave Jinyoung an uncertain glance, trying to silently ask if that was the right thing to do. Jinyoung reassuringly tightened his hold on my hand,"Mark is right. We need everyone out of their houses and into-" The sudden sound of a bang and shattering glass, followed by crackling wood, interrupted Jinyoung. The crowd of bandits- Jinyoung and I included- fell to the ground out of instinct, hands covering the back of their head protectively. A loud ringing began in my ears, I forced myself to get up off the dirt with a bit of difficulty. My eyes caught sight of a woman, her determined brown gaze focused as she covered a smaller body with her own. My throat tightened around unsaid words. She's protecting her child.

"We have to go now!" The blond girl from earlier shouted, effectively getting almost everyone on their feet. I quickly looked back to see it had been the living house that had fallen to the ground in a pile of flames and ash. The place I had gone to when I had first arrived. Where I met BamBam, where Jinyoung and I spoke on the roof, and shared our first kiss in the darkness of his room. The lives of these people would be burned with their belongings, and the thought made my eyes burn with un shed tears. There was no time to cry, I wasn't sure there ever would be. I went to help people up, preparing to pull Jinyoung beside me, only then realizing my hand was grasping thin air. My breath hitched as I turned, searching the crowd which was slowly rising.

People started moving as Hyuna led the way down the road. I wanted to ask her where exactly they were going, but Jinyoung seemed like a bigger priority at the moment. When I spotted the familiar features I let out a breath I hadn't been aware I was holding. Rushing to his side I noticed Jinyoung clutching his upper leg, where the cloth was placed earlier,"Is it bleeding again?" I rushed, not fully aware of what I was dealing with. And who knew how long we had until the street was engulfed in flame,"Maybe a little." Jinyoung replied through clenched teeth,"Idiot, tell me if the pain becomes overwhelming okay?" Tilting his head Jinyoung gave me a confused look. I ignored it and answered is unsaid question by placing my arm under his legs and neck,"Oh, wait- Yi en!" He exclaimed, wrapping his arms around my neck. Tightly grabbing my shirt as I lifted him off the ground.

The crowd of bandits was barely visible as they entered the trees. At least they listened. Gripping Jinyoung I pulled him closer, quickly making my way down the road. As I reached the end another loud bang told me one more house had become ash. This time screams followed, and then I realized the explosion had come from a different street, one that didn't know what was happening. It was the street opposite of Jb's,"Oh no, no, no. Jinyoung I don't know which one to choose." I confessed to the boy in my arms. Jinyoung started to push away from me, making hesitantly place him on the ground. His voice was steady as he spoke,"Then I will. Go warn Jb, tell him we will be by the east river."

"We?" Jinyoung let a small smile reach his lips,"Go get Jb, Mark." I went to make some type of excuse, you aren't well I must go with you. I don't know what to say. Don't leave. Before I could a cottage two houses down went up in flames, and when my arms uncovered themselves from my protecting my face, Jinyoung was gone.
