Part 22
Mark
Groaning I felt heat hitting my face in the form of breathing. Opening my eyes I relaxed at the sight of Jinyoung sleeping. After the previous night conversations I was a bit worried he wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully. Speaking of night conversations, what the hell happened last night. Jackson told Jinyoung he was going to be sent as a spy to the castle. That had made Jinyoung worry Jb had some plan much like one he had formed years ago. Which had failed and killed many Bandits. The only thing I knew before hand was the fact that the village and castle had always wanted to kill bandits. Over my years of growing up in the village I heard so many comments on how the Bandits only caused trouble, and 'they were shunned for a reason, they should have just been executed!' I couldn't imagine having Jinyoung, or BamBam, or Yugyeom, or Youngjae, or even Jackson getting executed. Being here has taught me every Bandit had a story, you couldn't judge them on the reason they had been shunned. Some even kidnapped like me.
No matter how hard I wished I didn't I could understand why I was kidnapped. Much like the castle, Bandits need numbers to fight a war. And there had been an ongoing war for survival that went back ages. For as long as society can remember Bandits had been a part of it. Just more subtle other times compared to now.
I wonder what Jinyoung is going to teach me today. If I said I wasn't the least bit excited to have Jinyoung train me, I would be lying. When I was still training with Yugyeom he would occasionally come and watch, while correcting me whenever I'm wrong. The memories were still fresh in my mind and it pained me that Yugyeom couldn't finish my training. We had sort of bonded over punching each other in the face. Though I received most of the punches.
A yawn sounded, breaking my thought train. I watched silently as Jinyoung stretched, his hand coming in to contact with my chest. He continued stretching anyway, nearly pushing me off the bed,"Hey I'm laying on this bed too!" I reminded him, only getting a chuckle and mumbled 'sorry' in response. I hesitated before placing my arm on his waist. Fear that I had done something wrong surfaced when his eyes opened in surprise. Lifting my arm up quickly I was about to apologize when his hand grabbed mine.
Jinyoung smiled reassuringly, placing my arm back on his waist,"Hey, you're doing great. Don't be afraid to try anything okay?" He scooted closer, closing his eyes with a sigh. The smile still on his face told me it wasn't an upset gesture,"If it feels right, then do it. Unless it's jumping from roof to roof, or anything that leads to death. Then don't do it, ever." I chuckled,"Wasn't planning on it." Jinyoung's hair brushed against my neck as he moved around, trying to find the most comfortable position.
"So, when do we start training?" I wondered aloud, my own eyes falling shut as my body relaxed against his. I felt Jinyoung shrug,"When ever we feel like it. Two months is plenty of time." I scoffed playfully,"Wait until we start the training to make such a bold claim." Lips gently pressed against mine, taking me by surprise. Not that I was complaining.
I leaned into him as his hands went to my neck. The kiss was quickly broken off as his hands moved to my chest before pushing me off the bed,"Hey!" I yelped, wincing when my back hit the wooden floor,"What the hell Jinyoung?" The said boy was now sitting up, laughing his head off. I just continued to glare at him,"I had to get you up some how!" He defended himself, moving out of bed and toward his dresser,"Now go get dressed and meet me in the kitchen for breakfast. I have the sense BamBam will be cooking."
Jinyoung was right. As I stumbled into the kitchen I was greeted with Jinyoung frantically placing three plates down while BamBam yelled at him to get everything needed for pancakes,"You forgot forks Junior!" Jinyoung quickly apologized and I couldn't help but be amused by the karma he was getting. Yet worried at the same time,"Um, what's happening here?" Both boys turned to me, BamBam's face brightening,"Mark!" The giddy way he said my name made my eyes widen,"BamBam?"
BamBam laughed happily,"You know you're one of my best friends right?" I gave him a confused look,"Well not real-" "Actually don't answer that, it was a question I didn't want a reply to." The sudden change in mood creeped me out, making me take a step back for good measure. BamBam suddenly perked up again,"Anyways! I was just making pancakes for breakfast, and Jinyoung was helping me set the table. I was wondering if you could clean the dishes in the sink. I need one of them."
I tilted my head to the side, about to ask why he was acting so strange when Jinyoung caught my eye. He was frantically nodding his head, a challenge in his eye. You better say yes Yi en, I could practically hear his threatening voice in my head. Forcing a smile onto my originally concerned face I locked eyes with the waiting boy,"Of course I can BamBam." I slipped past the two of them over to the sink. A mountain of dishes awaited me.
Sighing I quickly got to work, grabbing the dish closest to me I scrubbed while listening to the conversations going on behind me. BamBam had gone back to yelling at Jinyoung. Nothing really stood out to me until Jinyoung seemed to have hit home,"Did you get the berries? Huh?" Bam asked him, flipping a pancake in the process,"We don't have berries here Bam, they only get berries in the village."
Silence followed his statement, small intakes of breath the only sound in the room for several minutes,"He is going to be a spy Junior. In the castle." BamBam's voice wobbled, as if a gate he had sealed off all morning was opened. The gate that took forever to close just burst open with a single word. Hushing noises came from Jinyoung,"It's okay Bam. He is going to come back, you know that."
"No I don't! And neither does he, that's why he doesn't understand! He doesn't think before acting, it's going to get him killed!" The sudden outburst made me jump, the pot I was washing slipping from my hands before crashing into the sink with a loud thud. Shuffling was heard, BamBam appearing at my side with more pots he had been using to cook,"You guys go train, I'll finish the dishes."
Jinyoung immediately protested,"What about breakfast?" I knew it was just his excuse to stay and comfort BamBam. But if there was one thing I understood well, it was wanting to be alone in hard times. To think, and find your way again. BamBam shook his head, taking the sponge from my hand,"I don't feel like making pancakes anymore." He shooed me away from the sink, making me step back. I turned to see Jinyoung ready to speak, his expression soft and caring.
I took his hand in mine before he could speak,"Let's go train Junior. When we get back we can all make a big dinner. You won't starve okay?" The hidden message in my words were easily caught by him, his eyes locking with mine. We engaged in a staring contest for a bit, Jinyoung the first to look away,"Okay. Bam if you need us we will be in the forest by the meeting hall." Smiling gratefully at him BamBam turned to me, surprisingly. He motioned for Jinyoung to leave for a bit, which he did after a groan left his lips. His voice echoed in my ear mumbling 'I'll be outside waiting' as he left.
BamBam gave me a suspicious look, filled with sadness. Stupid Jinyoung showing affection in front of a heartbroken boy. The said boy crossed his arms over his chest, the decided he didn't like it and put them on his sides,"Mark I just wanted to say I'm grateful you understand how I feel about all of this. Not just anyone could persuade mother hen Junior to leave a hurt chick, but you managed to do it because you knew how I felt. So thank you." I gave him a small smile,"Being alone was kind of my thing back at the-" I choked up, cursing the universe that I had to be emotional now of all times,"-village."
A look of sympathy crossed BamBam's face before disappearing,"Did you like it there?" Surprised at the choice of words I thought carefully,"I liked being with my family. Of course I never seemed to fit in anywhere, but it's always been that way." BamBam nodded, his mood darkening in a way,"That's why he picked you." I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. Picked me? BamBam spoke again before I could open my mouth.
"Jb has spys all over the village. Yugyeom was one of them, and he would come home telling me Jb was making him watch out for people who didn't fit. Jb said they would make better bandits, that the lost were the first to accept a new leader in any battle. I was kidnapped like you. Awhile ago, but I didn't fit in either." Taking in the new information I tried to figure out why this was important,"Why are you saying all this now? Why not when I was first brought here?"
BamBam sighed,"There is a rage coming, bigger than any rage I've ever seen, and it would take an idiot to not see that Jb is using you to start it, or end it. I thought you should know this because it may help you in the future." He turned to stare out the kitchen window,"I don't know what Junior told you about Jb's past, but some bad stuff happened to him as a kid. This whole sick idea of taking over he has in his head, it's personal. Jb has always been the best at dragging people into his personal problems, and it's going to get us all killed."
