Ray Toro- Frank, Please
Your pov
"Y/n!" My best friend cried, standing beside the big yellow bus outside the high school as snow lightly fell.
"I'm coming! I'm coming!" I yelled, trudging through the snow with my duffle bag over my shoulder.
Almost the whole senior class stood outside, shivering as we waited for our ski trip. The trip we had been waiting for since freshman year. My best friend Hayley had insisted that I sat with her and the girls on the bus. Even if, I was secretly wanting to sit with someone else.
"Hey Y/n," A taller boy with pretty brown curls and the most beautiful brown eyes greeted. My insides immediately became excited.
"Hi... hi Ray," I waved. He joined me on my slow walk to the bus.
"You excited for the trip?"
"Of course, I've been waiting my whole high school career for this weekend." He chuckled. Aww...
"Yeah, me too," It went quiet as we now stood in the group of seniors crowding around the bus door, "So, uhm, have you asked anyone to room with you yet?" Oh... please ask me...
"No-" But I was interrupted.
"Ray! There you are!" His short friend Frank cried, "Oh, Y/n, sup..." Frank spoke in a slightly distasteful tone towards me.
"You smell like weed." I spat.
"And you smell like a bitch."
"Frank, please..." Ray spoke.
"What? She does." I rolled my eyes and walked towards Hayley.
"So, what was that all about?" She asked, referring to my talk with Ray.
"Oh, nothing, just, talking to Ray," Hayley sent a look, "What? We're friends."
"Sure..."
Finally, the last of the seniors joined the crowd, and the doors opened. Everyone rushed inside, trying to get out of the cold and, hopefully, getting lucky by snatching a seat in the very back. I followed Hayley towards the back, sitting only one row away from the very back seats. We set our bags on the bus floor as two other girls sat in front of us, Hayley's friends I believed, but I could not remember their names.
"Hayley, I'm so excited, ah!" One of them spoke, but I unintentionally tuned out as I watched Ray's group of friends board the bus. They snatched the seats in the very back where it was larger and the bench went from wall to wall.
Ray... Frank... Gerard... Mikey... wait... Mikey? He's not a senior...
"I don't think he's a senior." I said, turned towards the boys, and referring to Mikey.
"Shut up..." Frank spoke between his teeth.
"Why? It's not fair to everyone else if he gets to go two years in a row."
"Shhh!" Gerard cried, "You'll get us in trouble..."
"Yeah, that's kinda the point..." I snickered, "I can't imagine what might happen if someone found out there was a junior on the bus..." I said a little loud.
"Okay! What do you want from me!?" Frank asked, I smirked.
"Ten bucks and you calling yourself a rat would do." He rolled his eyes, but reached into his pocket and handed me ten bucks.
"I'm not doing the other thing."
"Oh that's a shame, wouldn't want anyone knowing there's a-"
"Okay! Okay! I'm a rat." I snickered.
"Fuck off..." Frank muttered, rolling his eyes.
"Why do you hate him so much?" One of Hayley's friends asked. I turned towards her.
"What?"
"Frank, why do you hate him?"
"Cause he's annoying. Plus, he hated me first."
"But why?" I shrugged.
"I dunno..." I put my ear buds in, already having them plugged into my iPod, "No one talk to me, I'm zoning out." And I hit play on my favorite album, while doing just as I said I would. The other girls talked to each other, but I had no interest in listening in.
The ride was fairly smooth, up until the thirty minute mark. I felt a tap on my shoulder. When I turned around, I pulled an ear bud out, and found Ray gazing at me.
"Hi..." I greeted with a small smile.
"Hey, so, I was kinda wondering if maybe you'd like to-"
"Ray, don't waste your time with this one. She's evil!" Frank chimed.
"Fuck off, you're the evil here!" I cried.
"No way, I'm great!" I rolled my eyes, "But you," He pointed at me, "Don't talk to my friends!"
"Oh please, can't you give the bubonic plague to someone else for once?"
"Yeah why not? Maybe I'll give it to you!" He leaned towards me and stuck his tongue out. The Way boys laughed, I shoved Frank away.
"Fuck off, rat boy."
"I hate you."
"I hate you too."
"Will you two please shut up!" Hayley cried from beside me, I turned towards her, "So annoying..." She put her ear buds back in and gazed out the window. I gazed back at Frank who was making faces at me. I made them back. Eventually, I just rolled my eyes and zoned out to my music again.
"Hey..." I felt a tap on my arm, but from Hayley this time. When I gazed over, she was pointing out the window. We had finally made it. As soon as the doors opened, everyone was in a rush to get off the bus, and, as a person in the far back, it still would take awhile for me to get off.
"This blows..." I complained.
"I'm sure you know a lot about that kinda thing, don't ya Y/n?" Frank asked. I turned towards him.
"Are you calling me a whore?"
"Possibly, why? Did I get it right?"
"Frank, please..." Ray spoke up, "Can you be chill for thirty seconds?"
"I dunno, can she?"
"Yeah, and I could do it better than you." I said, grabbing my duffle bag from the floor as we got closer and closer to getting off of the bus.
"How long do you think they could go?" Gerard asked.
"Not long," Mikey said, "At least, for Frank. He's the one who's been starting their fights." Gerard and Ray nodded, agreeing with Mikey.
"Seriously!? You're with her!? Fine!" Frank cried, as Hayley and I began walking down the bus walkway. Frank and his friends were right behind, "I'm gonna behave myself just to prove you guys wrong." We all now stood on the snow around the bus with our fellow classmates, shivering in the cold night.
"I have a feeling you won't last long, but sure, I'll take you on."
"Be prepared to lose." I rolled my eyes.
"Okay, everyone!" A teacher called, "If you haven't picked anyone to bunk with, do so now." Everyone began chatting. Ray once again came over to me.
"Do you wanna-" But he was cut off once more.
"Ray! Bunk with me and Mikey. Please, they think I don't have anyone yet." Gerard explained.
"Can't you ask Frank?" Gerard shook his head.
"I'd rather not. C'mon Ray, please?" Mikey asked. Ray seemed upset, but went along with them.
"Alright, I'll go with you guys," The Way brothers cheered, "I'm sorry Y/n, I should go with them..."
"Okay..." I gazed down at the snow, now saddened, "Hayley?" When I asked, I got no response. She wasn't beside me when I looked for her, "Hayley?"
"Y/n!" I whipped around to find her in a pink smiley mess, "I'm bunking with the captain of the football team." She seemed so excited.
"Oh," A sense of sadness fled my insides, but I stayed happy for my friend, "Cool..." Shit... what am I gonna do?
As I looked through the crowd for someone to bunk with, my eyes only landed on none other than Frank Iero himself. Please... anyone but him... there has to be someone else... shit, now he's coming this way... please no...
"Y/n?" Frank asked, "I guess it's me and you."
"Uhuh, I'm fine with that. Totally..."
"Oh, me too." The air around us felt so awkward without our normal hateful behavior towards each other. I hated it more than the hateful behavior because, at the very least we had something to say to each other.
"Students, it's time to head to the cabin," The teacher waved and began walking, "Follow me!" We did as told.
Frank and I didn't even look at each other as we walked. But, to be fair, the cabin we walked to was hard to take your eyes off of. It was basically a gigantic cabin with big windows and a very cozy feel. The darkness of night only amplified the lights hung inside, being seen from the windows.
Once we got inside, we were met with the lobby. It was very open with an information desk in the middle, a Christmas tree in the back, places to sit, ski gear, and anything else a typical hotel lobby would have. The left and right wall each had a set of stairs, with railings made out of smooth wood that led to some rooms. Where the rooms were, they wrapped around the top of the lobby, creating a balcony.
"Holy shit..." I heard Frank mutter.
"So the school can pay for an insanely nice place to stay for the senior trip but don't have enough money to fund art club? Interesting..." I spoke. Frank chuckled.
"Please, this place is awesome and you know it."
"Well duh! I'm just saying..."
"Let's just get our room." Frank said, probably holding back an insult. We went up to the teacher and each got a room key.
"Hayley?" I asked, she turned to me, "Where's your room?" She was about to speak, then noticed Frank beside me.
"I'm in room one twenty. Are you in the same room?"
"Yeah, I had no one else." I explained, she snickered.
"It'll probably be good for you, but also," She just laughed, walking away.
"What room are we in?"
"Two twenty five."
"Alright, let's go..."
I followed him up the right stairs, and down the hallway until we made it to our room. He unlocked the door, and, thankfully, it had two beds. It was fairly boring compared to the rest of the place. A window was at the back wall, bathroom to the left as soon as you walk in, a closet across from it, two beds with a nightstand in between them, and a tv facing the beds sat on top of a set of drawers.
Frank immediately fell back into the closest bed to us. I sat on the other bed, gazing at him.
"What?" Frank asked.
"Nothing..."
"I think you're cracking."
"No I'm not."
"Sure..." He rolled his eyes, then got up, standing in front of me, "I bet you're dying to insult me." I'm actually not...
"Nope, but it looks like you are," I giggled, "Go ahead, call me a bitch."
"I'm not going for it."
"Fine..." I hate this... I've seen enough movies to know what'll happen... Frank and I... I don't want that... Ray...
"You can get outta my face now," I said. He sat down on his bed, still staring at me, "What?" He just rolled his eyes. I never have understood why he hates me so much... maybe now's my chance to find out...
"Frank?"
"Yeah?"
"Why," I hesitated, "Why do you hate me?" He gazed over, "What is it about me that makes you insult me everyday?"
"I have my reasons."
"Okay, what are they?" He sighed.
"Alright, back in sophomore year, I uhm, I dunno... it's dumb..."
"Dumb? It can't be dumb if it caused you to hate me so much," I looked over at him, "I'm not gonna laugh at you."
"Fine, sophomore year, we had science class together. You and I were partners on this project, something to do with chemicals and things. Anyways, it was cool at first, a real good thing going."
"I remember, we were partners on a few other labs too. Then, you just started being mean to me."
"Me!? You're the one who went around telling people I fucked the class lab rats!"
"What!? I didn't do that!"
"Yes you did! I know it was you. People told me!"
"Frank, that wasn't me," I spoke more calm, "Who told you that?"
"Hayley..."
"Hayley!?" And in an instant light tears speckled my cheeks, "I guess I've lost a friend. I promise it wasn't me."
"Doesn't matter anyways, it stings no matter who did it," He went quiet for a moment, "I'm sorry..."
"About what?"
"Being so awful to you. I shouldn't have done that. Even if it had been you."
"I'm sorry too. I'm sorry for calling you a rat. I'm sorry for the nasty things I said to you." Quiet filled our room. The quiet stayed for so long I thought Frank might've fallen asleep, up until he spoke again.
"Can we be cool again?"
"Yeah..." I said, waiting for the next moment in the movie that is our lives. The moment where our now mutual respect turns into something more that I didn't want. I'm not ready to face the inevitable... I'm stuck in a dumb chic flick... Ray and I will never be... oh god... I'm stuck with Frank...
Frank was now busy getting ready for bed in the bathroom as I wallowed in my own upsetting thoughts. Once he was done, I got ready. The pajamas I now wore were plain. Is an old oversized hoodie and pajama pants sexy? I hope not...
I stared at myself in the mirror for a solid minute, thinking. Okay... stop thinking about Ray... I have to... oh... but I can't... but have to... I'm so scared... I wish it had been Ray...
Finally, I walked out of the bathroom to find Frank sat on his bed. He gazed over and smiled. I sent one back before laying under the covers of my bed, with my back towards Frank. I can't escape the inevitable... oh Ray...
More of these thoughts swirled around my mind. This is awful...
"Y/n!?" I hadn't even realized Frank sitting on my bed, or that I had been crying until he spoke up, "Are you okay?"
"No..."
"What's up?" I sighed, but sat up so I faced him.
"Oh you know..." I spoke through the tears.
"I don't know..."
"Frank, we started this trip hating each other, then we had to room together, then talked and are now cool, oh, you know what happens... happens next..." He finally caught on.
"We don't have to do that..."
"Yeah we do," I held my face in hands, "It's how these things work," I sighed, "I just wanted to room with Ray..."
"Wait, Ray Toro?" I nodded, "C'mere..." He held his arms out, I hugged him, "I'm gonna fix this."
"Fix it?"
"Yeah..." He let go of me, "You might wanna clean yourself up, I'm gonna go find Ray."
"Wait, what?" He stood up and began collecting his things.
"Ray, that's who you wanted to room with, right?" I nodded, "Cool," He walked into the bathroom, continuing to grab his things, "As you know, me and Ray are friends. He'll be here." Frank left the bathroom, then walked right out of our room. I just sat there, perplexed by what had just happened. Holy shit...
I jumped up and ran into the bathroom. Quickly, I wiped away my tears, and made myself look as presentable as I could in an oversized hoodie and pajama pants. Once I was finished, there was a knock at the door.
"Y/n? Can I come in?" I heard, walking to the door. Ray...
"Hey," I smiled, opening the door, he stepped in.
"Frank said something about you being annoying and wanted to switch rooms." Thank you Frank...
"No, he was the annoying one." I giggled.
"Y'know, I've been trying to ask to room with you all day." He chuckled, leaving his bag on the floor, and sitting on Frank's old bed.
"And I've been trying to say yes all day." He chuckled. I sat beside him.
"So uhm, I wanted to room with you cause, well, I kinda made myself a promise."
"What kinda promise?"
"One that involves me telling you how I feel." He spoke, nervously. Oh my god...
"Uhm," He pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and began reading, "Y/n," I smiled, resting my head on his shoulder, "I uhm... I think you're really pretty. Every time I see you, I smile. You make me feel weird. But... but it's good! Okay, fuck this..." He threw the piece of paper onto the floor, "Y/n, I have a crush on you," I was speechless. The pretty boy beside me felt the same way as I did, "It's okay, if you don't like me..." I can't believe he likes me...
That was when, I realized, this was far from any movie. In a movie, this awkwardness wouldn't be seen. All that would be seen is this sense of confidence no one actually had. No matter how badly we wanted it.
"I... I have a crush on you too..." He smiled wide with his wild pink cheeks.
"So, uhm, can I kiss you?" I nodded. Slowly, he leaned down, and pressed his lips to mine. He pulled away so quickly out of shyness.
"Wanna be my boyfriend?" His eyes lit up and jaw dropped at the sound of this.
"Yes, yes I do!" I giggled.
"Cool..." Very gently, he wrapped an arm around me, and pulled me close. Thank you Frank... thank you so much...
