Beer on Friday (CartoonzxH2O)
(A/N:) here we go :,0
-----/////------/////-----/////-----
Luke's POV:
Another Friday rolled around and it was getting to be time I headed out. Every Friday, with out fail for seven years, I visited my best friend, Jonathan. We'd sit out in the yard, basking in the sun, sipping ice cold beers and taking in the beautiful North Carolina scenery. I always look forward to it.
I pulled up to his home and walked across the grass to the spot where he was sitting. It's funny actually, I always bring my own folding chair and no matter how many times I offer to bring one for him, he refuses, saying he prefers to sit in the ground. I set my chair down, opening it up and plopping into it with a sigh. I suddenly remembered something, so I got back up and ran to my car, pulling out a small styrofoam cooler filled with cold beer as I had done every other Friday before this one.
"Sorry," I said running back to where Jonathan was resting on the grass, "I totally almost forgot the alcohol." I let out a quick laugh and retuned to my spot in the folding chair. Wiggling slightly, I pulled a bottle opener from my pocket and grabbed two beers, cracking the caps off the top.
"Here," I set one of the beers on the ground besides Jonathan but of coarse, he didn't pick it up.
A warm wind rushed over my face and I smiled with content. "I really love the weather this time of year, don't you?" We carried on with this small talk for a while and per usual, I didn't get much of response. Contrary to popular belief, he was quiet the timid and humble person.
Leaning forward in my chair, I released a heavy breath. "Can you believe it's already been seven years?" I asked sadly, looking down at the still full beer bottle resting on the ground.
Before I had even realized, the sun was starting to set, casting shades of deep red and violet into the sky. That was my signal to start packing up before it got too late. "Time sure does fly...." I stood up, looking down on the words that I had read many, many times before.
"In loving memory of Jonathan....
A caring son and a loyal friend."
Slowly I packed up my cooler and my chair, turning back to Jonathan. "See ya soon, Jon..." I murmured, patting the top of the small, grey headstone before walking away from the cemetery, leaving the singular beer bottle to rest against his grave.
The two of us, we'd sit out in the yard, basking in the sun, sipping ice cold beers and taking in the beautiful North Carolina scenery like we had many times before. I looked forward to it. Unfortunately after seven years of visiting my friends grave every Friday, of every week, of every month without fail, I knew that I had to come to terms with reality. My best friend was gone.
