Achilles sighed when he finally finished his paperwork.

After the return of his sons, a pile of paperwork have just began to show up, leaving him locked up in his study for quite some time.

He looked at the bottle of whiskey. His wife loved whiskey. She loved to drink. Maria was his drinking buddy.

And, he missed her.

Everyday of his life, he'll just ask himself if it was worth the trouble. Was Luca worth all of the trouble?

Maria made him promise to take care of her.

That promise was worth thousands of effort that she'll never get to see.

Was it really worth it?

He shake his head and stood up, not wanting to provoke any more emotions that's already bottled up inside.

He walked out of the door and went towards his daughter's room.

Her door's color blue.

They thought that Luca was going to be a boy at first. His line of family was mostly men. They rarely get a daughter. Besides, having a daughter in the Cattaneo was a weakness. They live in a cruel world. A world where death always lingers.

Luca may be their weakness but damn, she's a blessing. She's a damn blessing, never their weakness. She brings joy to their lives, brightening up their world. She's a gift.

A fucking gift.

Achilles snorted humorlessly at that.

Luca's a friendly girl. She's bright and bubbly. Nothing can pull her down. That girl would always greet anyone with warmth, always the one that could lift up anyone's spirit.

Just like her mother.

"Papa?"

Achilles looked up and saw that he was already in her room. Standing silently.

He saw his daughter, already in her pajamas and ready to sleep. She looked at him in pure confusion. Her night lamp made Achilles see his wife though.

He sees Maria in Luca because she looks just like her. Sweet chocolate eyes which was always filled with wonder and warmth. Wavy brown hair that glimmer in the moonlight.

Even Luca's personality was like Maria. Soft and friendly. She wasn't naive but would let innocence fill her heart.

Achilles smiled softly.

He walked towards her bed and sat down at the edge of it.

"Hi, Lu. Sorry to wake you."

Luca rubbed her eyes and shake her head. "M' not sleepy yet. Is Papa okay?"

He nodded. "Papa just missed you."

She smiled. "I missed you too."

Achilles couldn't help but smile at her innocent tone. "Yeah?"

She nodded and immediately flailed her arms. "Luca loves you lots and lots and lots!"

He chuckled and kissed her forehead. "I love you a lot too, bambina."

"Is papa sad?"

The man blinked at her sudden question. Why would she think of that?

"No. Why?"

Luca shaked her head and crossed her arms. "You're lying. Lying's bad."

"How could you tell?" He asked, grabbing her teddy bear and placing it beside her. Luca immediately hugged it.

"'Cause you miss mama." She said, yawning slightly.

Luca didn't notice her father tensing up. A lot of questions were surrounding his mind. It was torture because no one can answer his questions. He was having cold sweats as he stared at his daughter.

"How... How do you know that?" He asked tensely. "How could you say that?"

She smiled secretly. "Papa loves mama. You got pictures of mama, you look at them everyday and when you're sad then s' 'cause papa misses mama." She explains.

She then stood up and patted his head. "There, there. When Luca feels sad, Enzo would pat my head and say eve'thing is going to be 'kay." She continued. "Papa, s' okay. Ev'thing'll be okay, 'kay? Luca loves you lots and lots. Always. Mama loves you a lot too. She'll always love papa."

Achilles gave her a shuddering breathe out before pulling her softly into his hold.

Tears were beginning to fall as he hugged her. It was ridiculous for him to cry. A Cattaneo never cries. They are made of steel. Hard to break. Never a weakling.

But Luca could bring their vulnerable side.

And that's even more ridiculous.

Achilles sniffled and nodded.

"I love you too, bambina."

Yes, that promise was worth it.
