The skies were grey and depressing. Thunder echoed throughout the city as the smell of an upcoming rain filled her with nothing but distress.
The silence was unbearable and thick. No knife could cut the silence. It was the kind of silence where people would be too afraid to move an inch. The sound of their footsteps were loud, the crunching sound from under their feet would made them flinch in surprise, it was as loud as the thunder rolling around in the sky.
Pierre wished that it wasn't such a depressing day.
It was making him sad as well.
But as Luca's personal bodyguard, despite being so bad at protecting her, he still promised himself that he will lay down his life for Luca because Luca...
Luca was precious to him.
He doesn't know why but the little girl just have this sort of pull that just makes you into this monstrous being and you'll just have strong urge to protect her.
But more than that, she actually saved him from himself in a way that just makes him want to save her from the world. He was such a bad person. He thought that he would drown in a never ending cycle of shit and more shit but she saved him.
In a way, this little girl, a Cattaneo no less, saved him.
And fuck, when Pierre actually thought about it, that fact alone was scary.
When Luca finally stopped walking, the silence turned heavy to the point where it was hard to breathe in it. It was so heavy and was filled with nothing but sadness.
Luca clenched the bouquet tighter before giving off a smile. The bouquet was filled with nothing but lovely white roses.
The little girl heard that it was her favorite after all.
Luca's eyes were damp and glassy. The usual brightness in her eyes were gone, it was replaced by a monotonous look.
The soft rain fell down upon them, leaving them to feel the harsh and cold droplets of water.
Luca wasn't as childish as anyone thought she would be. The little girl got a few grasp on what kind of family she was in and it's certainly not a normal one.
(Nothing in her life was normal.)
Everyone surrounding her is not even considered as normal. Even the innocent looking Matteo isn't as innocent as she perceived him to be.
She heard Mr. Pierre talking to her father once. Mr. Pierre was once a sex slave, still addicted to sex actually. Once a psychopath and became her bodyguard.
He wouldn't hurt her though. If he have any intentions in harassing or killing her then he would've done it already. Besides, he'll be too afraid to do that because he'll have his head immediately cut off.
Apparently, everyone was in debt to her family.
That's why they're around.
That's just what it was.
The sudden sound of the umbrella startled her. The droplets halted and she looked up and saw Matteo holding up an umbrella we'd was sympathetically at her.
Luca looked back at the tombstone.
"Hi, mama... " She whispered, kneeling down in on the grave. The little girl placed the flowers down and forced herself to smile. "I brought you your fav'wite flowers! They super smell good. I also love roses just like you."
She clenched her little fist as she looked at the tombstone in front of her. Whenever she would visit her mother's grave, the lullaby that Maria recorded for her daughter before she died would play inside of the little girl's mind and it would make Luca very upset.
Because, why did she have to die?
Everyone's already accusing Luca for it. Why does it still hurt whenever she comes here?
What's the feeling of mama's love?
Would it be soft? Would it be warm?
Would it be comfortable and happy?
She doesn't know.
And that's because Maria was already dead.
Suddenly, the recorded melody started to play inside of Luca's mind and she immediately took a handful of dirt as she immediately glared at the name written on the tomb.
Why did she have to die?
Everything would've been better if she were alive.
But no.
No, oh, no. She knew very well as to why she died.
Luca cried as the same realization dawned upon her.
She always comes back with the same answer after all.
Maria loved her little girl so very much that she didn't want to give Luca up. Achilles always told the little girl that Maria would always say that she wants her previous little girl to see the world as something beautiful.
Because it is beautiful in a five year old—no, a six year old's eyes.
Luca cried, her screams was drowned in the noise of the loud rain.
She wailed and cried, screaming for a name, a person, who will never be alive again.
Who'll never held her with delicacy and warmth.
Do you know the feeling of losing someone? Luca didn't know her mother but she still loved her. The stories that her brothers keep telling her about her mother was fine enough to make Luca love her mother very much. But the little girl still wished and hoped for something that would never come true.
Feel the warmth of a mother.
Tears just immediately began to fall helplessly as she smiled innocently up at her mother.
Her mother's voice was so soothing.
But she didn't get to hear it in real life, she could only hear her in a recorder. She didn't get to feel the warmth of having her mother close to her because she's already dead.
But Luca knows that her mama's watching.
"M' sorry for crying. Mama, happy death anniversary!" She whispered, trying to cover her sobs as her head hung down in defeat. "And happy birthday to... Me, right, mama?"
Pierre gasped in realization and in horror.
Of course! So that's why she was so excited to spend the day with her family!
"Mama, I love... L-Love your song... " Luca mumbled. "I listen to it when I'm lonely or when I miss you... And, I really do miss you, mama."
The little girl reached out to touch the tombstone.
"Always and forever..."
"Luca!"
Pierre immediately frowned. He turned around, seeing her family walk towards them.
He immediately narrowed his eyes.
"Don't come near her." Pierre warned, block in their way. The sound of the pitter patters of the rain suddenly became loud. It suddenly became colder and it became harsher than before.
"What... " Sydney muttered in confusion, desperation wasn't doing any good to any of them. "Let us through, Pierre."
Pierre gave him a blank look. He noticed Sydney shaking like a fragile leaf and he saw his eyes wide like an addict, filled with fear. He knew that Sydney was silently beating himself up for what happened. "And who gave you the authority to order me?"
"My father did!"
Pierre glared at him. "I only follow his orders Syd. I'm sorry."
Sydney clenched his jaw in anger.
"Can you let us through?" Achilles calmly asked.
The guard shook his head. "You assigned me to be your daughter's personal bodyguard. I'm sorry, Achilles, but I see you four as a threat to her therefore, I cannot let you pass through."
Pierre may always be goofing around but he would always be beside Luca whenever she needed him to be. Despite being Achilles' slave, he did appoint him to be Luca's personal bodyguard so he's got a right to protect her even from his father, right?
Enzo sighed. "Please... "
"Mr. Pierre."
Everyone froze and looked over Pierre's shoulders.
The little girl, eyes that were once filled with warmth and comfort was now cold and red. Her stance was firm that it held confidence without any doubt in question.
She walked towards them. Matteo was still holding the umbrella for Luca while walking side by side with her.
"Lu... " Achilles started but Luca immediately crossed her arms and huffed.
"Who even forgets their own daughter's birthday?" She glared at him. "And even the death anniversary of their own wife?"
"But, bambina... " Achilles started. "We were..."
"Talking about them being insects was super rude, daddy. Even cockroaches have feelings, papa." She then smiled.
Oh, yes.
She smiled.
The kind of smile where it just gives you nightmares. The kind of smile where it chills you to the bones.
The kind of smile where only a Cattaneo could do it.
And fuck, when a little girl do it, it's scary as hell.
Or even worser than hell and its unending fire. It's like staring into the eyes of a devil who'd want nothing more than to make you it's chew toy.
And as thunder roared in the skies and rain falling heavily down on them?
It was giving Luca a dramatic effect.
"But actually..." She hummed thoughtfully, crossing her arms. "Giving them your attention, mmm... I don't think that they're considered as insects anymore, papa."
That means that they were offering something worth paying attention to, Pierre thought in surprise but then he also realized something again and he looked at Luca in shock. If he were correct, which his guts was telling him that he was, then Luca was giving them an impression that that was indeed the case.
Oh.
Is she really a six years old?
Sure, living with a bunch of smart, stupid, crazy, psychopaths could lead a person to commit suicide, is Luca really pretending to be a childish innocent kid?
"Evey'one's so mean to me... It was making me lonely and sad..." Luca sarcastically whined. "Evey'one forgot me... Even papa."
She then sobered up her act.
Everyone was staring at her like she had grown ten heads in just a minute. It would've been hilarious if it now the serious atmosphere.
Gabriele was the first one to break the tense atmosphere and he tried to reach out for Luca but she whimpered, backing away from him.
She shook her head weakly as fresh new tears flowed her already red eyes. "No! Gabriele's scary, I-I don't want G-Gabriele... "
Oh, she called him by his full name.
"Dove... " He tried but Luca only cried louder for him to stop.
"No! No! No! Stay away from me!" Luca cried, hiding behind Matteo as she continued to whimper. "I hate you. I hate bullies! I hate you all! I don't want you anymore! D-Don't come near me... "
That broke their hearts into pieces. It was unbearable seeing her like this. She was supposed to be their little innocent baby girl. She was the one who would cling to them and would talk nonstop about everything for hours!
And saying that she hates them?
Oh, that blows it.
That blows it all.
That was something that broke everything in them.
And it hurts more than being alive itself.

And we have time differences so those days may not be Sunday, Wednesday or Friday to you guys... :P
I can't make any promises to you, doves, but I still don't want to leave you hanging. :)
