⫸ Chapter - II - Ender ⫷

"I can't believe that actually happened." I groaned slouching against our pallet of boxes. Cam patted my shoulder in sympathy while Michi giggled adorably at my suffering. "I met my hot roommate for the first time and I broke his phone. Why is my life like this?!"

"He said it was fine! He was so. . . nice about it." Cam offered. I peeked up at her, and I could see that there was something hidden in her eyes. I got the feeling she didn't like him, which was rare because Cam was such a friendly girl.

"Are you kidding? He was clearly uncomfortable. This is what you get for trying to run away from us." Michi chuckled, still oh so amused. Cam shot her a look while I straightened up, grabbing the handle to our pallet.

"Yeah, you might be right. He was pretty quick to get away from me. And I didn't run him over!" I huffed at the end. "You really think I could knock that giant down? I was the only one who ended up on my ass. God that was embarrassing." Cam gave me another arm pat and Michi rolled her eyes. The two started talking about music class as we walked. I felt the nerves in my chest settle as they chatted, letting me recover from my embarrassment. The anxiety faded, replaced by warmth. I'm glad you guys know me. I thought, smiling a little at my friends.

"Okay you two win, we'll stop by your dorm first." I said, turning towards the girls dormitory. That's what we had been bickering about before I sprinted off. "Guess I have to stop trying to get my way by racing everyone."

"Karma Sokudo-kun, sweet karma. And you just wanna avoid Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome now." Michi smirked, I felt my face begin to heat up again and rolled my eyes. Michi and her dumb nicknames for everyone. I wasn't going to deny that my roommate was attractive, I wasn't a closeted seventeen year old anymore. But I wasn't going to make a habit of calling him hot like I had before, it'd be my luck he'd catch me calling him that.

"Well of course I am, would you wanna go talk to him after that?" I tugged on the hem of my hoodie, glancing over at Michi through my hair. I blew my bangs out my face but they just fell right back into my eyes. I can't wait to unpack and find my hair clips. I can't live like this.

"Worth it to get another look at those dreamy green eyes." Michi replied, tucking her long black hair behind her ear.

"I don't know." Cam said softly, frowning. "He seemed scary to me. I wonder how he got that scar on his face."

"Cam!" I said in surprise. Cameron was usually so sweet, I didn't think she'd ever judge someone by their appearance. "I don't think we should judge him for that. We don't even know him!"

Her face went red and she looked sheepish. "No that's- that isn't what I meant. I just thought he seemed a little, I don't know strange? How does someone not get at least a little mad when their phone gets broken? He was almost too calm about it."

"Oooh, a mystery!" Michi sang, hoping ahead to open the doors to the dormitory. I pulled the pallet through and Cam took the lead next holding up her phone and counting room numbers.

"No offense Michi, but I think Ender and I can both agree that we don't need any more of your mystery boys in our lives." I nodded quickly, shuddering at the memories of the last guy Michi had tried to set me up with. Michi's face fell.

"Hey! I said I was sorry about that. I don't think anyone saw that coming. Especially from Craig-"

"Here's us! Now we can unpack the pallet and not talk about that!" Cam beamed, pressing her hand to the scanner and holding the door so I could hurry through.

"Yeah. Besides, we agreed to never talk about him again, remember?" I added. Michi nodded and helped me with pull off her and Cam's boxes. I was once again reminded of the unfairness of the situation.

"I can't believe they let you two room together like this," I whined, "I feel so left out." Michi rolled her eyes while Can hurried over to the door.

"You forget we're different genders or something? They don't let boys and girls dorm, even if their siblings." Michi said as she opened up one of her boxes and started rummaging through it.

"Even if they're married." Cam added looking over her shoulder. "My parents got married right out of high school, and they still had to be in separate dorms when they went to college."

"That must have sucked." I replied, taking poster rolls as Michi handed them to me. "Michi, what are you doing, I thought you were gonna come with me to my dorm?"

"She is, now put those down and come over here, both of you." Cam said, waving us over. I dumped the posters back into the boxes and Michi flopped onto her back.

"I'm trying to find something! It's for Ender to take back to his dorm." Michi said, kicking the box.

"You got me something?"

"I know exactly where you packed it babe, I'll pull it out in a minute not come here!" Cam chuckled, Michi popped up and practically bounced over to Cam, who was her girlfriend. They didn't use pet names and stuff too often and it was hilarious to watch whenever they did. Michi would turn into this little ball of energy and do whatever Cam asked, and Cam would just melt into the floor much to Michi's amusement.

"You guys are so gross." I joined them by the door. Cam just grinned, while Michi shot me a glare.

"Okay, Mi, put your finger here." Cam said, grabbing Michi's wrist and lifting it to the doors setting panel. Michi didn't even hesitate, not caring to ask what Cam was changing. Cam put her finger on the panel and then grabbed my wrist pulling it up too. I pulled my wrist back, Cam was changing a security setting, that's why she needed Michi's fingerprint too.

"Whoa, what are you changing? And why do you need me for it?" Cam's smile softened.

"I'm adding your hand to the door." I blinked at her, that's a really big deal. Especially a girl giving that kind of access to a guy. I'd be able to come and go just as easily as they could. And anything in the dorm that is open to roommates would be open to me as well, I'd basically be their third roommate. I felt a lump in my throat this a big deal, but shook my head. They were just my friends; they were also a couple and deserved their privacy. And I couldn't return the favour either, my roommate probably hated me so he'd never agree to me adding them to our room.

"You don't have to do that, I was just kidding earlier-"

"Oh shut up you lonely hoe," Michi snapped grabbing my hand, pressing it to the panel. We all laughed as a beep sounded and then pulled away. "We'd miss your gay ass too much, welcome to the family."

"Yeah, besides we all know you'll be over here all the time anyways." Cam said easily, going over to Michi's poster box. She started to dig through it with a lot more confidence then Michi had. And in about five seconds she was pulling a poster roll free.

"Okay, yeah you got me there. But can you blame me? The only reason I even got into this place is all thanks to you, Cam. I doubt I'll be able to keep up with all of this stuff on my own." And it was the truth. I may have gotten a swim and track full ride scholarship, not that I needed one since my parents would have paid for any college I wanted to go to, all I had to do was ask. But my grades were awful, they were barely high enough to meet their standards. If it weren't for Cam helping me learn to actually balance sports and studying, I would never have made the cut. Before I would just make sure my grades were high enough so I could do all the sports that I wanted too. When it came time to start thinking about college however, I knew that wasn't going to cut it anymore. Cam did volleyball, and was valedictorian of our class so when I realized I was going to have to learn to work better, I went straight to Cam for help. And I'm glad I did, I wouldn't be here if I didn't.

"Yeah, all you know how to do is race." Michi said, hopping over to Cam and taking the poster. She passed it over to me, and I started to pull at the rubber band that kept it rolled up. "No no, open it up when you get back to your room."

I titled my head at her, but shrugged it off and carefully into one of my boxes that were still on the pallet. I fixed the straps back up and tugged it back over to the door.

"Come on, you two can unpack later. You gotta be my buffers for this, there's no way I can handle seeing him on my own after that."

"Oh fine, come on you big baby." Michie laughed, leading the three of them back out of the room.
