Backstory: Lykayus was once a part of a band of traveling mercenaries in his younger days before he took his holy oath and became a paladin. He and his companions had been hired by a lord to track down and kill a clan of Gnolls that had been raiding the villages of his kingdom. They found themselves ill prepared when the very Gnolls they had been hunting ambushed them. It was a massacre that killed every member of the mercenary party but Lykayus, who fought the Gnolls with everything he had. When he found himself bloodied and barely able to stand, he called upon Bahamut, the benevolent god of his people, to aid him. His prayers were answered, and Lykayus was granted Bahamut's favor. He drove his Greatsword through the heart of the Gnoll pack leader before slaying the rest with a zealous fury. After returning to the king and claiming his reward, he made a pilgrimage to the temple of Bahamut. It was there that he took up an oath to defend the weak and decimate the wicked in Bahamut's name. In gratitude to the god who saved him, he would serve as his blade against evil, routing it out and destroying it wherever he found it. After a few years of traveling around Faerûn, his holy crusade led him to Baldur's Gate, where he was captured while trying to defend civilians during the Nautiloid attack.
