Forty One

"You're going to believe him instead of me?!" Sunmi's voice echoed in the room, her face full of anger.

"Jungho!" She called out, grabbing the man by the arm.

"You know I couldn't do that to you! I could never cheat on you!" She insisted, tears cascading down her eyes.

Jungho sighed as he looked at her tear stained face. He would've believed her just like before, be fooled by those innocent eyes and the pain he sees in her beautiful face.

He would've embraced her and asked for forgiveness.. but not anymore. He won't be fooled this time, especially if his trusted friend was the one who witnessed it all.

Not to mention, the pictures he was able to get a hold of.

Pictures of Sunmi and her lover.

"Enough, Sunmi. Just sign the divorce papers and get it over with." Jungho turned his back on the woman.

"That Baekhyun is lying! How could you believe that lowlife instead of me? Your wife!" Sunmi didn't back down. She hugged Jungho from the back, begging him to believe her.

The man sighed, forcefully removing the woman's arms around him. He walked to his table, rummaging through the drawer to get the pictures.

He dropped it in front of her who instantly turned pale at the sight.

"This should be enough to make you stop." Jungho said in a firm voice.

"N-no.. I could explain. This isn't -"

"Just stop, Sunmi. For the love of god, just stop." Jungho was finding it hard to control himself even more.

"If you sign the divorce papers, I won't tell Jungkook about the real reason why we had to split up." Jungho said, trying to be considerate of her.

No matter how much she had hurt him, she's still the mother of Jungkook. He doesn't want him to hate her.

He knows Jungkook would react negatively if he finds out because he loves his mother so much.

Sunmi shakes her head. "Please Jungho. I promise I'll change! I won't do this again.. Please."

"I want those papers to be signed as soon as you can." Jungho responded instead. He went out of the room, leaving Sunmi drowning in her tears.

Jungho wasn't aware that time that Sunmi had started feeding Jungkook with lies. She manipulated him into believing that Jungho was the one who's having an affair.

When Irene, Taehyung's mother, went to Jungho one time to borrow money from the latter, Sunmi used it to her advantage.

"Are you sure this will be enough?" Jungho asked, placing the money on the envelope.

"Yes. That's more than enough." Irene smiled. "We were just a bit short of money now since I haven't gotten customers these days.." She trailed off, seeing Jungho's face turned serious.

"I really think you should stop with that kind of... work." Jungho said in a low voice.

Irene just smiled. "You know I can't. I have a lot of things I desire, things that Baekhyun couldn't give." She rolled her eyes, remembering how useless her husband is.

"I don't even know why I married him. Good thing he has a friend like you, rich and generous." Irene uttered in a sweet voice.

Jungho just shrugged his shoulders. He's just lending her money because of Baekhyun. He's grateful of him and it's just right to return the favor.

"Don't let him find out I borrowed money from you." Irene reminded.

Before Jungho could even reply, the door opened, revealing Jungkook.

Both of them turned to look at his direction.

"Oh, Jungkook. You should have knocked, son." Jungho uttered, sliding the envelope to Irene who immediately took the money.

"Sorry. I didn't know you have a visitor." Jungkook apologized.

Irene smiled at Jungho before whispering a small 'thank you'.

Jungho shakes his head and whispered back, 'No, thank you.'

Irene turned around and walked away. She had a glimpse of Jungkook as she smiled at him a little before going out of the room.

On her way to the front door, she was halted by a firm grip by the arm.

"So you're taking money from my husband after that asshole Baekhyun told him lies about me, huh?" Sunmi gritted her teeth as she glared at the woman.

Irene scoffed, effortlessly removing her hand from her arm.

"The only lie here is your innocence." Irene retorted back.

"You were caught cheating and yet you're putting the blame to my husband?" She looked at her with disgust in her eyes.

"Be responsible for what you have done. Don't accuse people just because you want to come clean. You're never clean." Irene finally turned around but was gripped once more by Sunmi.

"I don't think you should be telling me that, slut." Sunmi smirked.

Irene didn't budge. "I'm a slut, yes, but at least I admit that to myself. I'm not pretending to be clean.. unlike you who's pretending to be holy even though your stench could be smelled even from miles away."

Sunmi was about to say something back when Jungkook came from nowhere. She immediately pushed the woman out of the house, scared that Jungkook might find out her secret.

After that, Sunmi fed all the lies Jungkook believed to be true now. She didn't stop until the day she took her life away.

It was the night when Jungho had asked her to finally sign the divorce papers.

He's not giving her any other options. She was hysterical, in the brink of losing her mind.

"Jungkook will hate you, Jungho! If you divorce me, he will hate you!" Sunmi smiled, the kind of smile that made Jungho shiver.

"What were you telling him all this time?" Jungho asked, horrified.

Sunmi smirked. "Know it yourself." She turned around, hands clenched in fist.

"I will never sign those papers!" She bellowed, storming out of the house.

She went to her car, not in her right mind as she drove out of the parking lot.

There's a long driveway before she could reach the gates, leading to the main road.

Her eyes were full of tears, mind blank when she saw a man walking on the sidewalk.

She thought her eyes were playing tricks on her, but when she passed by him, she confirmed who it was.

Baekhyun.

"I'm going on my way there now. I told you, Jungho. Don't give my wife money. I'll return it right now and you can't say anything about it." Baekhyun threatened, talking to Jungho on the phone.

He heard Jungho sigh, voice sounding tired when he said. "Okay.. but tonight's really not a good time."

Baekhyun furrowed his brows. "Why? Did something happen again?" He asked in a concerned voice.

He was too focused on the call that he didn't see Sunmi's car turning around and in full speed aiming for him.

"Did-"

Baekhyun wasn't able to finish when his body felt a hard hit, his vision started to blurry together with the screeching sound of tires.

His body rolled on the pavement, blood gushed out of his head. He was losing consciousness, breathing ragged as he looked at the car in front him, everything went dead silent before he closed his eyes.

Jungho, who heard the loud crashing sound from the other line was alarmed. He immediately took his car and went to find Baekhyun but it was too late.

When he saw him, he's already dead.

Sunmi was panicking, hands shaking in fear as she drove fast.

She killed him.. She killed Baekhyun..

She smiled bitterly, totally out of her mind as she whispered to herself, "You deserve it. You're the reason why I lost everything."

Her heart was pounding off her chest as the image of Baekhyun's dead body lying on the floor came to her mind.

She killed a person.

Her tears cascaded down her eyes, so lost and afraid. She couldn't turn back now.

With trembling hands, she reached out for her phone and dialed the number of the only person who's on her side.

"Jungkook.. my son. Remember that I love you." Sunmi uttered, voice cracking as tears cascaded down her eyes.

"Where are you, mom?" Jungkook asked, alarmed.

Until the very end, she made sure to plant hatred in her son's heart.

"I love your father so much, but he just couldn't love me anymore. He wanted me out of his life... and I shall give him that." Sunmi sobbed which made Jungkook feel shivers run down his spine.

"Mom, what-"

She didn't let him finish as she drove the car past the barricade, creating a loud crashing sound as the car fell on the sea, drowning and killing her.

Jungho knew Sunmi was the one who killed Baekhyun. It was recorded on the cctv, but instead of letting the world know, he had hidden the truth.

He used his power and influence to hide the truth from everyone.

He did this for his son, Jungkook.

He saw how he grieved for his mother.

He saw the hatred in his eyes when he looked at him.

He should've told him the truth, but he couldn't.

He doesn't want Jungkook to hate his own mother and think of her as a monster.

She's already dead. She already paid for her sins.

Even though Jungho knew Jungkook would hate him, he kept the truth all to himself.

Not knowing that this hidden past would only do a greater damage in the present.
