The next day at lunch time, Elodie was walking with a tray in hand to the picnic tables to eat lunch when she spotted Evie walking over to Doug. Wanting to see what was happening, she sat on the closest bench, eavesdropping.

Evie had a piece of paper — no doubt the science test she was panicking over that morning — in hand, placing it in front of Doug's face, grinning. "For the first time it's like I'm more than just a pretty face."

"A shocker, huh?" Doug asked, chuckling. The evil princess placed the paper down before sitting next to the boy. Deciding that the moment was too pure to eavesdrop in on, Elodie diverted her attention elsewhere.

It wasn't long before Mal stalked in, straight towards Evie. "There you are! I have been looking for you literally everywhere! Elodie, you come too!"

Sighing, the redhead stood up, walking at a much slower pace over to where the three teenagers were. "What's wrong?"

"Ben just asked me out on..." Mal paused, sighing, "Er, a date." Elodie giggled, though she knew this would be the girls first date ever and had every right to be worried.

"Don't worry, two girls who have been on plenty of dates are here to help!" She exclaimed, genuinely excited. Also buying Evie time to say her goodbyes to Doug.

"You're looking a little pale—" The evil princess commented, getting straight to it.

"Well, yeah, of course."

"—But, I can fix it with some gloss and some blush." Elodie chuckled, loving how much Mal was going to eventually love the process of getting dolled up — though that wouldn't last if the plan was still on.

Finally making their way to the dorm to after the afternoon classes, Elodie and Evie were in makeover mode, going crazy.

Elodie was tasked with shower and skincare prep, as well as nails and hair, and Evie took it upon herself to do the makeup and clothes, as per usual.

It took awhile, Mal and Elodie arguing over which products would make her glow the most and what to do with her hair, but they finally settled it, going with a down curled look, as well as a dewy base.

The steam from the bathroom was still pouring into the room as Evie was finishing up on the blush.

"Woah, easy on it. I don't want to scare him away, not that I could." Mal said, muttering the last part.

"Please, my mom taught me how to apply blush before I could talk. Always use upward strokes."

"My mom was never really big on makeup tips. I never had a sister." Mal replied, opening her mouth so Evie could touch up her lipstick.

"Well, now you do. We're gonna need all the family we can get if we don't pull this off. My mothers not a barrel of laughs when she doesn't get her way. Just ask Snow White." Evie said, rolling her eyes.

"Yeah, and when I get to see my mom again, I can get her to loan you a pair of her lashes. She'll gladly teach you." Elodie called out from over her shoulder, distracted with picking out nail polish.

"No, thanks!" Mal called back, before turning back to Evie. "Are you afraid of her?"

"Sometimes." She confessed. "Are you afraid of yours?"

"I just really want her to be proud of me. She gets so angry with me when I disappoint her. And yeah, she's my mom and I know she loves me, but- well, not everyone's parents can have a change of heart like El's"

"Moving on, come see." Evie suggested, changing the subject to one less depressing.

Standing in front of the mirror, Mal let her mouth drop open in awe of herself. "Woah." She laughed.

"I know." Evie and Elodie both smiled.

"I look..." Mal trailed off.

"Say it."

"Not hideous." Mal laughed again.

Letting Mal have a moment to take herself in, Elodie and Evie both made themselves busy, but only a moment later there was knocking at the door. Mal and the redhead both raced for it, but Mal reached it first.

She opened the door, and Bens eyes practically bulged from his head, obviously checking the girl out. Jealousy was beginning to brew inside Elodie, but not for Mal. The girl could care less about Ben.

"For the first time I understand the difference between pretty and beautiful." Ben said, hearts in his eyes, getting a hearty laugh from Mal.

"I uh, hope you like bikes." He continued, handing one of the two helmets he was holding to her. Turning around to face the two girls still in the room, Mal gave them an annoyed look, wanting this to be over.

⚔︎

Coming home, Mal didn't talk much about the date, opting to just sleep. Elodie wasn't opposed to the idea, loving sleep, but Evie was persistent, though Mal didn't give in, thankfully.

It was the start of first period, and almost no words had been exchanged by the VK's that morning.

The bell rang for first period, and they got to their Remedial Goodness 101 class without being late. The Fairy Godmother had greeted them with a surprise before class could officially began.

"Children, excuse me." She started, gaining their attention. "Um, as you know, this Sunday is Family Day here at Auradon Prep. And because your parents can't be here due to uh, distance, we've arranged for a special treat." She went up to a TV that was behind her and clicked something.

Maleficent's face appeared, taking most of the screen up. "I don't see anything, nor do I hear." She muttered on her end.

The five teenagers shared surprised looks before Fairy Godmother called them over. Maleficent back away, revealing her three companions — Cruella de Vil, Jafar, and Evil Queen.

While they crowded around the television, they watched as the parents fumbled around with the technology, trying to figure it out.

"Press enter." Jafar suggested.

"Can I please see a remote?" Maleficent yelled, the Evil Queen handing one to her.

"Where's my parents?" Elodie asked, suddenly sad. She got shrugs from her friends in return.

"Is this thing on? Ugh, it broken! Ugh, I hate electric equipment— Oh!" Maleficent stopped, finally getting the television and camera to work.

"Evie, it's mommy!" The Evil Queen greeted, seeing her daughter. "Oh! Look how beautiful. Oh, you know what they say, the poison apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

"Don't you mean the weeds?" Maleficent teased.

"Who's the old bat?" Cruella asked, pointing out the Fairy Godmother to the other villains.

"This is Fairy Godmother." Mal clarified.

"Still doing tricks with eggplants?" Maleficent snickered at her joke, the children joining in.

Fairy Godmother frowned, "I turned a pumpkin into a beautiful carriage."

"You really couldn't give Cinderella till one a.m.? I mean, really. What, the hamsters had to be back on their little wheels?"

"They were mice! They were not—" Instead of arguing with the older villain, she turned to the children instead. "They were mice. They were not..."

"Thank you so much. Thank you," Mal said, scooting Fairy Godmother out of the cameras view. Then, she stepped up front to speak with her mother. "Hi, mom."

"Mal!" Maleficent exclaimed, before realizing that she was getting ahead of herself. "I m — miss you."

"You children are never far from our thoughts." Jafar added, trying to help cover it up.

"How long must mommy wait to see you?" Maleficent asked, slightly less eager.

"Um, there's a big coronation coming up. I think sometime after that." Mal replied.

"When?"

"Friday, ten a.m." She answered quickly.

Elodie started to drift into her thoughts. They had already talked about their plan to steal the wand, so it was quickly becoming a boring topic. Only a couple more day until we see mom and dad in person, she thought.

"You sure I can't see you until then? I don't know what I'll do if I don't get my hands on that magic wan — you! You little nugget that I love so much." Maleficent said, covering her mistake fast.

"Yes, I completely understand." Mal said, forcing out a smile so Fairy Godmother wouldn't get more suspicious than she probably was.

"Carlos, is that a dog?" Cruella asked, suddenly moving her face closer to the camera. Elodie glanced at Carlos, who was petting Dude in his arms. Then Cruella started speaking to the stuffed dog around her neck. "Oh, yes, yes, baby, I do understand. It would make the perfect size for earmuffs!"

"He's the perfect size for a pet!" Carlos snapped back. His mother gasped, not used to the boy standing up to anyone, let alone her. "This dog loves me, and I love him. And FYI you're dog is stuffed! So, give it a rest!"

"Oh-ho burn!" Jafar exclaimed while laughing.

"Oh! Why don't you go sell a toaster, you two-bit salesmen!" Cruella yelled, annoyed.

"People who talk to stuffed animals shouldn't throw stones!"

"Oh, well, people who sell toasters shouldn't use mixed metaphors."

"Enough!"

Jay walked forward and hit the button to turn the TV off. The kids all looked to floor, upset. Their parents couldn't even find it in themselves to stop arguing and talk to their children they haven't seen in weeks.

"I'm so sorry." Fairy Godmother softly said.

"Thanks for the special treat." Jay replied with a tight lipped smile.

"Of course." The children turned to leave, but before Elodie could walk through the door, Fairy Godmother called her back. "Miss King, would you mind staying for a minute?"

She nodded, watching her friends grab their things and leave. When they walked through the door, she turned to the older lady.

"Have I done something wrong?" She asked, hoping Fairy Godmother wasn't the one that caught her out past curfew the other night.

"Oh no! I know you noticed your parents' absences from the call." Fairy Godmother got a slight nod. "Well, your father has fallen sick and so they requested to do it from your house."

Before the redhead could question, the lady walked to the front of the room, repeating her previous actions from the previous call.

It took a second, but her mother had always been more adapt to technology than the other villains so the connect went through almost instantly.

"Mom!" She exclaimed, tearing up. "Are you guys okay? What happened? I thought Dad couldn't get sick."

"Calm down, he's doing the healing spells. Everything's going to be okay." Medusa replied, trying her best to keep the truth from her daughter. Thankfully, the younger redhead seemed to buy it.

"How's life back home, besides the not feeling good?"

"Same old, same old." Medusa shrugged, smiling. "How's Auradon? Meet someone yet?" She teased.

"Mom! No!" Elodie exclaimed, covering her face up in embarrassment. "And Auradon is surprisingly great. I actually quite enjoy it." She said happily.

"I'm glad." A voice said off-screen, one the girl easily recognized.

"Dad!" She yelled, a huge grin taking over her face. "I miss you."

"We miss you too, Ellie Bellie." He said, smiling slightly. There was a look in his eyes that Elodie couldn't quite place, but she let it go and continued catching up with him and her mom.

Fairy Godmother observed them, wondering how these evil, cruel villains could find it in themselves to put it in the past and focus on the future. She felt a tinge of hope in her heart, thankful that at least two villains were making progress. Then sadness came, thinking of how they would probably never get the chance to get off the Isle.

But with Ben being King soon, only time will tell.
