1.05 | love potion

Later that night, Elodie and the gang was in the student kitchen, making Mal's love potion cookies. The girl was secretly making her own batch of regular cookies with something called chocolate chips she discovered, not wanting to miss out on them but also not wanting to fall in love with some random person.

"All right. It says here that we still need one tear, and I never cry." Mal said, looking defeated.

"Let's just chop up some onions." Carlos suggested, picking up the bag of eye-watering vegetables.

"No. It says that we need one tear of human sadness. And this love potion gets the best reviews, so we have to follow it exactly." Mal replied.

"A tear's a tear." Jay said, annoyed.

"That's not true, Jay. They both have antibodies and enzymes, but an emotional tear has more protein-based hormones than a reflex based tear." Evie explained.

"Wow, look at you!" Elodie exclaimed, happy that the girl could express her brains and not pretend to be dumb like her mother wanted.

"Yeah, I knew that."

"No, you did not." Elodie said, rolling her eyes at the Jafar boy.

"There you are, Mal! I was looking for you." A new voice exclaimed, barging through the closed door. The redhead recognized it to be Lonnie's. "You know, all the girls want you to do their hair!"

Mal and Evie chuckled, Elodie walking closer to Jay and Carlos. "I'm one hundred percent gutting everyone here tomorrow." She whispered, into the de Vil boys ear.

"Midnight snacking, huh? Whatcha guys making?" Lonnie asked.

"Nothing special. Just cookies." Mal said, scrunching her face up.

Lonnie, hearing the word 'cookies', immediately swiped her pointer finger in the batter, assuming it was okay.

"No, don't!" All five of the villain kids yelled, but the girl had already put her batter covered finger in her mouth.

"What? I'm not gonna double dip." Lonnie said, confused. Thankfully, she showed no signs of the potion working, as the reaction would be almost instant.

"Feel anything?" Evie asked, cautiously.

"Yeah, like maybe it might be missing something?" Mal continued, equally as cautious.

When Lonnie didn't react, Jay took the chance to make her fall in love with him. "Hey there." He flirted with a slight wave of his hand, leaning on a pole. They stared at each other, and Jay gave her a big smile and got a tight lipped one in return.

"It could use some chips." Lonnie said, walking over to the pantry.

Jay looked confused and slightly disappointed. "Chips?" he asked himself.

Mal, Evie, and Elodie let out sighs of relief, thankful the girl was not going to turn into Jays girlfriend.

"And those are..?" Mal asked, confused.

"Chocolate chips. Just the most important food group." Lonnie clarified, bringing a glass bowl of said candy back. "Wait, didn't your moms ever make you guys, like, chocolate chip cookies?" Getting confused looks, she continued. "Like when you're feeling sad, and there're fresh out of the oven, with a big old glass of milk and she just makes you laugh and puts everything into perspective and-" the girl cut herself off noticing the looks on the villain kids faces. "Why are you all looking at me like that?"

"It's just different where we're from." Mal said, shaking her head.

"Yeah, I know. It's just, you know, I thought even villain love their kids." Lonnie replied, getting even sadder looks. "Oh. How awful." She said, grabbing Mal's hand and a tear falling down her face at the same time.

When Mal noticed the tear, she quickly wiped it on her finger, dropping it in the bowl. "Yeah, well, big bummer, but we have to get these in the oven, so thank you so much for coming by. Really, really have a good night. I'll see you tomorrow. Evil dreams!" Mal rushed, pushing the girl towards the door.

"Oh, okay. Goodnight!" Lonnie said, not thinking much of it.

"Goodnight!" Elodie responded, trying to be civil.

"Okay, boys, cookie sheet. Evie, oven. And Elodie, keep making your own batch." Mal instructed, turning around once the door closed.

"Yes, ma'am."

The next day, classes ran smoothly. Teachers didn't give out homework and there was no pop quizzes. It was passing period in between second and third. Ben and Audrey had just walked through the doors leading to the outdoor locker hallway for the sophomores, Mal sneakily following close behind, but was busted when a giggling group of girls — who had just got their hair done by the dark fairy that morning — called out to thank her.

"Thank you, Mal! We just love our hair!" They called out, and it seriously made Elodie — who was following after Mal — consider following through on her threat. She didn't know what about it made her fill to the brim with anger — actually, she did, she just didn't want to admit it.

"Are you feeling kind of weird about this?" Jay asked, making the redhead jump, not knowing he had snuck up on them. "I mean, it's not so bad here, ya know." He smiled.

"Are you insane?" Mal asked, making the smile drop. "Long live evil! You're mean! You're awful! You're bad news! Snap out of it!" She continued, snapping in front of his face.

"Thanks Mal. I needed that." He said, sincerely, before walking away.

"I swear, he is the biggest himbo I know." Elodie muttered, making Mal snicker.

"Do you think they actually payed for those?" Audrey asked, standing at Bens locker, which was just a few down.

Turning her attention to where Audrey's was, Elodie caught sight of Jay flirting. "Oh, hello. The names Jay. You all going to the tourney game tonight?" The girls giggled out 'yeahs' in response.

"She did it to Janes hair too, and Fairy Godmother is not happy about it." Audrey continued.

"What's the harm?" Ben asked, making the girl angry.

"It's gateway magic! Sure, it's starts with the hair. Next thing your know, it's the lips and the legs and the clothes and then everybody looks good. And then where will I be?"

"Listen, Audrey-"

"I will see you at the game after my dress fitting for the coronation, okay?"

"Okay."

"Bye, Bennyboo." And with that, Audrey turned and walked away.

"It's fun eavesdropping on them, M. She's just has to make everything about her. It's kind of funny." Elodie said, getting a smile and eye roll in return, before the girl shut her locker.

"Hey, Bennyboo!" Mal said to Ben, voice dripping in sarcasm. She got a 'hey' back, before he started walking over.

"We just made a batch of cookies, double chocolate chip, you want one?"

"Oh, I uh, got a big game. I don't eat before a big game. But thank you so, so much. Thank you. Next time, next time."

"No, yeah. We completely understand. "Be careful of treats offered by kids of villains."" Elodie said, jumping into the conversation.

"No, no, no-"

"No, I'm sure every kid in Auradon knows that." Mal continued, catching onto what the redhead was doing.

"No, no. That's not it. No, no, no. I really do- I have-"

"No we get it, you're cautious. That's smart." Elodie replied, continuing the guilt trip. "Oh well, more for us I guess." She reached into the bag for a cookie, before Ben snatched it out of her hand.

"No, no. Hey.." He said, taking a bite, eyes glancing over to Mal, instead of Elodie. "See that, I totally trust you. Totally."

"How are they?" Mal asked, continuing the intense eye contact.

"They're good. They're great! They're amazing! They're, uh, I mean they're chewy and, you know, they- is that walnuts?" Mal nodded. "I love walnuts. I mean, you know, the chocolate..." He cleared his throat, "The chocolate... the chocolate chips are... I'm sorry, um, they're warm and soft. And they're sweet..." He trailed off, looking at Mal's face intensely. "Mal, have you always had those little golden flecks in your eyes?" He asked, trying to take another bite of the cookie before Mal ripped it out of his hand.

"How ya feeling, bro?" Jay asked, coming up behind him.

"I feel... I feel... I feel like singing your name. Mal! Mal!" The dark fairy clasped her hand over his mouth to shut him up.

"That worked well." Elodie muttered to Evie, both of them standing behind Mal with Carlos.

"Maybe a little too well?" The evil princess asked.

⚔︎

After classes dismissed, it was time for the big game against The Sherwood Falcons. It was almost over, with 47 seconds left on the clock, and they were tied 2-2. Audrey was cheering for who she thought was still her man, very loudly, the people in the stands cheering with her. Carlos had just run on the field, Jay following closely.

"He's bringing that hothead Jay in from the Isle of the Lost and that little guy Carlos who can barley hold a shield." The announcer announced.

"Woohoo! Go Carlos! Go Jay!" Elodie screamed at the top of her lungs when she heard it, getting weird looks that she shrugged off.

"When they break from their huddles, this is gonna be a big moment here. And the tip-off is ready. Here we go.
Long pass goes to Jay.
Jay dishes off to Prince Ben.
Nice little block by Carlos! He does a little dancing jig in the opponents face.
And now Jay gets the ball back. Here comes Jay.
Jay, hurdling maneuver at mid-field. Jay makes a nice pass to Prince Ben through the Kill Zone.
Big block by Chad!
Prince Ben moves over wide, gives it back to Jay.
He's in the clear! Shot! Oh! What a save by Philip, the Falcons' goalkeeper!"

The entire Auradon section boo'd, loudly, making the Falcons cheer even louder. "Come on, he should've scored that!" Elodie growled out, frustrated.

"Twenty-three seconds left. You could cut the tension with a sword. The long ball is played into Jay.
Jay, great jump, great leap. And a great move by Jay.
Big block from Chad.
Jay dishes off to Prince Ben. And then Carlos with a big block, goes down.
Jay, through the Kill Zone, picks up Carlos. He's being hammered by dragon fire. Still going on. Jay, hurdling  maneuvering at mid-field. He's in the clear! The ball goes back to Jay. He passes to Prince Ben. He scores!" The announcer screams out, the entire Auradon section erupting into cheers. Screaming, crying, and happiness all going around. Even Elodie and Evie joined in, hugging each other while jumping up and down.

"Prince Ben has won it!" He screams again, this time louder. "What an unselfish play by Jay! What a team! Incredible! And it's the new guys, Jay and Carlos, who set up the Prince for the winner. What a victory! An absolutely wonderful end to one of the best games ever! Here they come, folks. The winners of the first-" He couldn't finish before the mic was ripped from his hands by Ben.

"Excuse me. Excuse me. Can I have your attention, please?" When everyone stopped to look at him, he got up on the cannons platform. "There's something I'd like to say. Give me an 'M'!"

"M!" The crowd cheered back, excluding the VK's.

"Give me an A!"

"A!"

"Give me an L!"

"L!"

"What does that spell?"

"Mal!" The crowd cheered.

"Come on, I can't here you!"

"Mal!" They all screamed even louder.

"I love you, Mal." Ben confessed, "Did I mention that?" Everyone looked over to the girl, whose eyes went wide and lips pursed. Elodie noticed that Audrey ran away, clearly upset.

"Give me a beat!" Ben sang at the band, and after Doug counted, a surprisingly good beat played, everyone cheering.

"What was in that cookie?" Elodie asked Mal and Evie, though they shrugged.

"Did I mention that I'm in love with you? And did I mention there's nothing I can do? And do I happen to say, I dream of you everyday? Well, let me shout it out loud if that's okay, hey, hey." Ben sang, Elodie humming along. She had to admit, it was a pretty good song and she hoped someone was recording.

"Hey!" The crowd sang with him.

"If that's okay, Hey! I met this girl that rocked my world like it's never been rocked. To now I'm living just for her and I won't ever stop. I never thought that it could happen to a guy like me, but now look at what you've done. You got me down on my knees. Because my love for you is ridiculous. I never knew.."

"Who knew?" The crowd sang.

"That it could be like this. My love for you is ridiculous. My love is r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s..."

"R-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s" The crowd now knew the lines they were supposed to sing.

"It's..."

"Ridiculous"

"Just"

"Ridiculous"

"And I would give my kingdom for just one kiss. Well, did I mention that I'm in love with you? And did I mention there's nothing I can do? And do I happen to say, I dream of you everyday? Well, let me shout it out loud, if that's okay, hey, hey. Yeah, if that's okay..."

"Hey!"

"I gotta know which way to go. Come one, give 'em a sign. You gotta show me that you're only ever gonna be mine. Don't wanna go another minute livin' without you. Cause if your heart just isn't in it, I don't know what I'd do. Because my love for you is ridiculous. I never knew.."

"Who knew?"

"That it could be like this. My love for you is ridiculous. My love is r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s..."

"R-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s"

"It's..."

"Ridiculous"

"Just"

"Ridiculous"

"And I would give my kingdom for just one kiss. Come on, now! Ho! Oh, yeah! Ho! Yow! All right! All right!" Ben took his jersey off and threw it to the stands, Mal being the one to catch it. "Because my love for you is ridiculous. I never knew.."

"Who knew?"

"That it could be like this. My love for you is ridiculous. My love is r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s..." Ben was on the shoulders of his teammates, and once he was situated, he was thrown into the stands.

"R-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s"

"It's..."

"Ridiculous"

"Just"

"Ridiculous" The Prince was crowd surfing his way down to Mal, which was amusing to Elodie. This had to be choreographed, she thought.

"And I would give my kingdom for just one kiss. Come on, now!" Ben stopped in front of Mal, leaning down to give her a kiss, one that she not-so-swiftly dodged. "I love you, Mal!" He said as he pulled her into his side. "Did I mention that?"

"Chad is my boyfriend now!" Audrey said into the mic that she had just ripped from the Princes' hand. "And I'm going to the coronation with him. So, I don't need your pity date." She continued before promptly leaning down and shoving her tongue down his throat.

Though, Ben wasn't hurt by it at all. "Mal! Will you go to the coronation with me?" He said, putting the mic in front of her.

"Yes!" She yelled into the mic, smiling widely.

"She said yes!" Ben screamed, happy as ever, the crowd cheering for the new 'couple'.

"Let's go, Ben. The whole teams waiting for ya." Jay interrupted, coming up behind and placing his hands on the Princes' shoulders.

"Bye." Mal waved, Ben going after Jay.

The announcer started saying something, but it was muffled as Elodie payed attention to Evie. The blue haired girl had really liked Chad, and was hugely disappointed by the news of him and Audrey. Mal finally noticed the girls composure as she turned back around.

"You know, E? I feel really sorry for Audrey." Elodie started, gaining the girls attention.

"You do?"

"Yeah, I feel like if she were talented like you, and she knew how to sew, and knew beauty tips, that she wouldn't need a prince to make her feel better about herself." She finished, earning a giggle from the girl.

"I guess I am kind of talented."

"You are definitely gifted." Mal chuckled, joining in.

"Thanks, El. Thanks, M."

Cheering suddenly erupted for the hundredth time. Turning their attention to the source, the VK's saw Jay being lifted up into the air by the team, holding the trophy.

"And there he is. Jay, the most valuable player! How do you like that?" The announcer asked, ending the game once and for all.

⚔︎

Later that night, Elodie was out past curfew, sitting on one of the benches outside of the girls dormitory hall. It was a waning crescent phase of the moon — one of the girls absolute favorites — and it was gorgeous. Stars littered around, sprinkled all over the sky.

Astrology had always fascinated the girl, being on the Isle with a constant cloud overhead kind of blocked her from experiencing it for a while, but now that she was in Auradon, she could watch the stars and moon every night. The only time you could see the stars or moon in the Isle, was if you were at the edge of the barrier, and the parents did not like their kids wandering too close to it.

Eyes glowing an electric blue, she made an illusion of him next to her, arm placed over her shoulders, staring up at the stars.

It actually happened once, he had got permission from Elodie's parents and took her to the edge of the barrier, blanket and the nicest food you could get on the Isle, and they watched the night sky until the sun started to creep back up. It was so, so sweet. He knew just how much it meant to her.

Hearing a crack, she stopped the illusion, and turned herself invisible — perks of being a sorceress. And she took off sprinting, back to the dorm, still invisible.

But of course, fate wasn't on her side and the soon to be King, Prince Ben saw the whole thing, watching in awe before he accidentally stepped on a stick.

Emily speaks !

I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and the little tidbit of information I included about Elodie at the end. Can you guess who 'he' is?

Hint, hint: the initials are in the title.
