Rose sat at her large table with piles of papers on her desk. Each paper was sorted from each class that she taught. She had a photograph of her husband named Greg and her son Steven. Rose loved her family with her whole heart and would do anything to protect them. She had a vase with a variety of colored flowers that she sometimes gave to her students. Mrs. Universe usually gave Amethyst most of her floral gifts because the young teenager had lots of personal things she went through and giving her a gift each day made her smile a little bit more. The teacher loved seeing everyone being happy but when she saw someone down she'd always try to make them turn that frown upside down.

Rose: Is your mom going to be here soon Amethyst?
Amethyst: (looks at the clock) Yep (grins nervously back to her teacher) She'll be here any minute!
Rose: Yes, well since we have this time on our hands , do you think we can talk about you?
Amethyst: What do you mean?
Rose: I know how you look at Ms. Peridot (smiles teasingly)
Amethyst: (blushes) Uh, what? She's my friend! We're only friends!
Rose: But she doesn't know, does she?
Amethyst: ...No
Rose: I heard she's dating a girl named Lapis?

Amethyst tenses up at the name being said

Amethyst: ...Yea...

Silence fills the room until there is a knock from the classroom door.

Rose: It's open!

Amethyst turns her head to see Connie and her "mom" Pearl. Pearl looked nothing like she did on her wanted posters. She wore a nice dress, with high heels, and a poka-dot bow that was clipped onto her combed hair.

Pearl: Amethyst! My dear! And-
Rose: You can call me Rose! (smiles and shakes hands with Pearl)

Pearl stares at her for a few seconds with curiousty. She looked very familiar...

Rose: Excuse me? Are you alright? Wait, you look familiar! Have I seen you around somewhere?
Pearl: (snaps out of it) No! I would definitely remembered meeting you!
Rose: (blushes and laughs) Oh you're so sweet! Would you mind taking a seat? (looks to Connie) And who is this cutie?
Pearl: My other daughter! (wraps arm around Connie) She and Amethyst get along very well!
Rose: (looks to Amethyst) You never mentioned you had a sister!
Amethyst: We adopted her a few months ago! We didn't want to spread around the news so quickly!
Rose: Alright then, (coughs and makes a serious voice) now we need to discuss about Amethyst and how she is doing...(sits in chair)
Pearl: How is she doing? (Sits down along with Connie and Amethyst)
Rose: She has turned in all of her work which is good, but most of her answers are wrong. In the beginning of the quarter she had two detentions because she got into a few fights. But then she drastically changed and avoided being part of those "confrontations." Amethyst has improved by getting high honors in all of the school! I just have one question that I want you to answer and that is that is there anything happening at home?
Pearl: Well (glances to Amethyst) I lost my husband due to a car accident a few years ago... It has affected our family greatly but we've been working through it together. (pretends to smile sadly)
Rose: I'm so sorry! (puts her hand on Pearl's) I didn't mean to-
Pearl: It's alright! We know it was for good intentions! So is there anything else that you need to know?
Rose: No, I just wanted to tell you how good Amethyst is doing now in her schoolwork and with her peers. (stands up) Plus I wanted to meet the amazing mother who raised Amethyst! (shakes hands with Pearl)

Pearl smiles sweetly and sighs with relief

Pearl: So everything is all good now?
Rose: Yep! The conference is over and you guys can leave. I'm sorry for taking up your time! (walks them to the door)
Pearl: Nonsense! I'm grateful Amethyst has a great teacher who helps her!
Rose: You're wonderful!

As Connie and Amethyst walk through the door and to the hallways, Pearl stands face to face with Rose blushing hard. Pearl secretly felt like she knew Rose from somewhere,and she wanted to know.

Pearl: If you don't mind me asking, what is your last name before you were married?
Rose: (confused) Mintleaf, why?

Pearl stood there frozen trying to restrain herself from what she wanted to do

Pearl: That's a beautiful last name. Um farewell for now... (walks out to Connie and Amethyst)

Rose: Goodbye! (waves and shuts the door)

Pearl rushes over to Amethyst and Connie who were leaning against the lockers waiting for her

Connie: What took you so long?
Amethyst: What did Rose say to you before you left?
Pearl: .....Just wanted to tell me how great you are! (ruffles Amethyst and Connie's hair) Now let's get out of here! I can't wait to take off these heels! They're killing me!
