Chapter 13: Beauty Of The Dark

Mm. Sweet dreams. Dreams about the hot summer days that they used to spend out in the woods when they were younger. Sweet dreams....

Then a glass shattering scream woke him instantly.

"Elena!.... Elena wake up!" He said, nudging her awake, to which her eyes flew open and she bolted up, pale and sweaty.

"NO!!?" She shrieked.

"Elena! It's okay, whatever it was, it was just a dream." He reassured, sitting up.

"Ugh... damn it!" She muttered, smacking her head against her hand.

"It's okay. It was just a dream, we all have them." He replied, placing a hand on her back.

"It wasn't just any dream. It was a total nightmare. Extremely vivid." She sighed, frustrated.

"Well whatever it was... It's gone now." He concluded.

"Right... Of course. Except it's not really over. We still have to find and kill the kitsune." She responded, feeling slightly better.

"Is that what this is about?" He asked, dismissing everything he'd just said.

"Honestly... Yeah." She confirmed, stubbornly keeping her eyes open.

Every time she closed her eyes, she was strapped to that church altar. Not one shred of comfort in her head.

"Wanna talk about it?" He asked.

"Talk about what?" She asked, pretending not to know what he was talking about.

"Whatevers going on in that pretty head of yours." He answered.

"No... At least not yet." She replied.

There was no way she was sharing her mental torture until Shinichi was dead. There was no way she was going to even blink until Shinichi was dead. And if everything went as planned, he would be dead by the end of tomorrow.

It was late morning and since daylight had crept over the strange dimension, Tyler and Elena had regrouped with Andres in the dining room.

"So, what exactly do you know about the guardians?" Andres asked, leading her and Tyler to his training room.

It was 4:00AM and Elena was in no mood for distractions. She had to focus now more than ever. "Absolutely nothing." She said helplessly.

"Okay. Clearly we have our work cut out for us." He responded in a slight chuckle.

Entering the training room, it was the most beautiful thing Elena had seen in days. It was almost like a green house, full of little trees and pretty blue and purple flowers, and even had a grass verge.

"Wow.." She gawked.

"Don't tell me there's fairies too." Tyler joked.

"Nope. But guardian powers are strongest when connected with nature. So this is what our training rooms are like." Andres explained, not responding to the joke.

"So where do we start?" Elena asked curiously.

"Come. Sit opposite me on the grass verge. Cross legged, and link your hands with mine, he instructed her, Demonstrating the position, he sat cross legged on the grass and held his hands out palm side up, resting them gently on his legs.

After taking in what he was doing, Elena copied and placed her hands on his, palm to palm.

"This should be good." Tyler commented, watching in amusement.

For a moment nothing happened and Elena began to doubt her power.

"Hey... It's okay. Let's try again." Andres reassured, sensing her doubt.

"Just relax." He said comfortingly.

And she did. Suddenly, a gold light surrounded Andres, his aura, Elena figured. That's when she knew she could trust him. Then glancing over at Tyler, he was surrounded by glowing blue.

"It's... Beautiful." She said in awe.

"The guardian powers are beautiful. It's a beautiful gift." He said, enjoying the feel of her excitement, radiating through him.

He loved teaching newly awakened guardians, because it was like he was discovering it for the first time all over again. The guardian powers were so magical that being one was more of a blessing than a curse.

"Okay, now that you've pretty much mastered aura reading. I think it's time for the next step... Wolfy, she's gonna need you for this part." Andres explained.

"What's the next step?" Elena asked curiously, as Andres stood up and moved away a little.

"Telepathy. Which is why we need him. Telepathy only works when you're extremely close to someone." He explained further.

"Well I'm game." Tyler stated, jumping from his seat and going to sit opposite Elena, who was still sat on the grass verge.

"Oh and FYI, it's Tyler or Ty, not Wolfy." He corrected, proudly.

"This part is pretty easy. All you have to do is open your mind to each other." Andres instructed.

"Physical contact helps." He added, watching from a short distance.

"Sounds easy enough." Elena said confidently before taking linking her hands with Tylers.

"It's working! I can hear everything!" She cheered, feeling proud of the progress her powers had made in such a short time.

"Wait... That's an actual fantasy?" She questioned telepathically, getting more and more images from his mind.

"What? Oh come on... Animal nurses are cute? No?" He replied telepathically.

"Never mind." Elena said aloud.

"Never mind what?" Andres asked curiously. He just loved telepathy. Especially some of the strange things waiting to be found in people's heads.

"Never mind that no one told you that it's none of your business what's in his head." Elena responded playing along.

If being a guardian held so much beauty then she would gladly upgrade her powers. Also she had to admit that it was kind of fun to dig around in Tyler's head and read things that were usually confined to dreams. She was having way too much fun with this to even think about that nasty kitsune at the moment.
