Chapter Thirty One
This posted before the Trailer part as I already had the start of this chapter written before posting that. Sorry if that confuses anyone!

Recap:
When I make it back to my room, I crawl into bed beside him.
I snuggle up against his chest. Miles plants a soft kiss on my lips and I sigh blissfully.
For a messed up night, this ended the most perfect way possible.
---------------------
Waking up in the arms of Miles has quickly become my favourite thing to do.
I roll my head back to see his peaceful expression. A soft sound emits from his mouth as he breathes deeply. I smile and trace my fingers down in defined jaw line.
"Mm," he mumbles softly.
"Good morning," I say to him.
"Morning," he replies sleepily.
He suddenly stretches and yawns at the same time and I openly ogle him as he does.
I smile as I watch him rub his sleepy eyes and peer around the room, looking adorably drowsy.
Eventually, after spending a long time wrapped in his arms, I shower and dress into a pair of denim shorts and a loose-fitting tee. When I re-enter my room, Miles is still on the bed, however, now dressed in the outfit he wore last night
My steps falter for a moment. Seeing him, casually laying on my bed, is so like how it used to be. I can't stop the smile spreading across my face.
"What has you in such a good mood?" he asks me.
"You," I admit simply.
He smirks. "Oh really?"
"Really, really."
"Come here," he says, patting the spot beside him.
As much as I want to, I shake my head. "No! Otherwise I will stay there all day. Let's go get some breakfast."
A sudden panicked look crosses his face. "Is Finn cooking? He will poison it."
I giggle. "He will not! Come on, it'll be fine."
Grumbling under his breath, he finally pushes his body from the bed. I link our fingers together and walk with him to the kitchen. My stomach grumbles at the smell of food cooking.
As we walk, I check my phone and frown. I half-hope that the episode with Samara last night was some sort of nightmare that didn't really occur and I will have a text message from her, gossiping about someone or sending me a link to a funny video she found. I sigh when I face reality and realise it was not a dream and that I really did lose my best friend last night.
"Hey!" Kiarra greets us in a chirpy voice, before taking a bite out of her toast.
"Good morning," I reply back in a similar tone. "Where's everyone else?"
"Becca and Finn just went out to the pool because it's actually warm today," she explains, before finishing the last of her toast.
I nod in agreement. "Yeah, it was warm in my room this morning."
"Hungry?" she asks us and waves a bit of bacon towards Miles.
"Starving," he grins, plucking it from her hand in one fluid movement.
"Damn it," she mutters.
I roll my eyes at the two of them, before grabbing the bread.
"So, how are you going?" Kiarra asks me as I lean on the bench and wait.
"Good?"
"About Samara," she clarifies after a moment of hesitation.
I look down at my feet as I realise. "Oh. I... I don't know how to feel. She has been our best friend for so long. Why would she do this?"
"Because that's what girls like that do, Is," she says with a sigh. "I really thought about my friendship with her when I was away. It was so rocky before we left and then the way she treated you... I just can't have someone like her in my life anymore. I hope I didn't take it too far."
"No, you were great," I praise her with a smile. "I'm just... hurt. I didn't think she had that side to her. Well, I did, but she never directed it to me. You know?"
She nods. "Yeah. I know."
I glance over to Miles, who is watching us curiously, while finishing off the last bit of bacon.
"Anything you want to add?" I ask him with a small smile, as my toast pops up.
He shakes his head. "Sounds like you have it covered."
"I'm going to head over to Jai's in a bit and help clean up." Kiarra informs me as I sit down. "It's the least I can do, since it was my welcome back party."
"That's nice of you. I'll help," I tell her and try, unsuccessfully, to keep the happiness from my voice at her idea of going to see him.
I'm shipping Kiarra and Jai.
"Count me in," Miles says before I even ask. "Get Finn to come, too."
Kiarra snorts. "He won't want to."
"He owes me, for being a dick," I remind her.
She nods, her dark-coloured fingers tapping against the side of her glass. "True."
We all finish breakfast by the time Finn and Becca return back inside.
"Hey B," I greet her with a smile.
"Hey girl," she replies, pushing her wavy hair back from her face. "How are you feeling?"
"Okay," I shrug.
She squeezes my shoulder gently as she walks past. I finally make eye contact with Finn, who is watching me wearily. His lips are pressed into a thin line as he glances between Miles and I a few times.
"Yes, Finn?" I question, planting my hand on my hip.
He gives me a flat look, before shaking his head, not saying a word. It must be killing him to hold in a snide remark or some sort of threat towards Miles. I smile in satisfaction as he walks away, biting his tongue. He knows he's on thin ice after the way he treated me last night.
"Oi!" Kiarra calls out to him before he gets to the stairs. "We're going over to help Jai clean up. You're coming."
"Ugh," he groans. "Fine. Give me ten."
Kiarra smirks in accomplishment. "Well, that was easier than I thought it was going to be."
***
As I run my straightener over my hair, I chew my lip thoughtfully.
School is going to be weird without hanging with Samara. As Kiarra has been away, it's been me and her... side by side... for three months. It feels weird not riding with her to school, or texting her. It's an awful feeling, losing your best friend.
I let out a sigh as I turn off the switch, gently placing the straightener down onto the heat pad. I glance out my window, to see a grey, gloomy sky and a layer of drizzled raining making the roof of my car shine. With that in mind, I shrug my jacket over my shoulders and wrap my navy scarf around my neck. Immediately, I feel too hot wearing this inside, but know I will need it once out in the cold air.
"Bye, bye, bye!" my mum sings as she rushes over to me.
She kisses the top of my head and I make a face when I feel a slobber mark. She does the same to Finn, who shares a similar reaction to me.
"Love you!" she shouts at us, before rushing out the door like a whirl wind.
Finn and I exchange a shake of the head, before I pluck an apple from the fruit bowl.
"Ride with me," he demands, before leaning over and taking a significantly large bite from my apple, without asking.
I just sigh and don't argue. Within seconds, my bag is over my shoulder, my shoes are on and my apple is halfway to being eaten.
The harsh wind slaps my face as I step outside and I grimace. The weekend was warm and somewhat humid, which is a drastic change to the weather today. We trudge to the car. I slide into the passenger seat and crank up the heat.
"We're cool, right?" he says after a moment of idling the car.
"Yeah Finn," I reply after a few seconds. "We're cool."
"Good."
The drive to school takes longer than usual, because it begins to rain. The sky is a hazy grey and the temperature has dropped once more. My teeth chatter as I hastily walk inside, greedily seeking the warmth of the halls.
I flick my hair from my face as I walk. The first thing I see is her fiery red hair. I feel a heavy pressure in my chest as I stare at her. She is wrapped in a dark, thick coat, making her red hair seem even more vibrant than usual against the dark tone.
With a sigh, I make my way over to her.
"Samara," I say quietly.
I stand there stupidly as she continues whatever she is doing in her locker. I clear my throat and raise my eyebrows.
"Samara."
I roll my tongue across my teeth in annoyance, as she blatantly ignores me. Finally, she gets her textbook out and shuts the door, giving me a faux sweet smile, her cherry-red lips curved menacingly.
"Glad to see you're able to talk, considering you let Kiarra do it all for you, Saturday night." she snaps at me, her fake smile unwavering and her eyes glaring at me with cold intensity.
"I want to talk to you about that," I say to her, flinching at her tone.
"I'd rather not," she says back without hesitation. "It's always been the Kiarra and Isobel show. You two are just fine without me."
"Samara," I say again, feeling exhausted and it's not even nine a.m. "Look-"
"I'm done, Isobel. I'm much better off." she smiles, flicking her red hair over her shoulder. "You two deserve each other."
I narrow my eyes as my anger flares. She was the one who started this. I'm here, trying to be the better person and take the high road. Of course she would lash out at me. I should have known better.
"Okay then," I say, purposely making my voice monotone. "Just remember, you're the one who ruined this friendship. Not me."
She rolls her eyes. "Run along, little girl. I don't need you."
"You say that now," I nod in agreement. "But when you have no one, don't come running back to me."
Her face drops for a moment. I turn my back to her and stride down the hallway, my heart beating loudly in my chest, towards at ashy-blond haired boy in a leather jacket.
He is my future. The chapter of mine and Samara's has closed and instead of dwelling on that sad fact, I need to move forward with Miles.
Because honestly, we're only in the beginning of ours.

Thoughts on what happened? Do you think that's it for Samara and Isobel's drama, or is there more to come? ;)
