Chapter Thirty Four

I realise that I unintentionally write Aussie slang in my books and only realise when I get a bunch of comments asking me what I mean, as I abbreviate a lot of things. I have attached a video below which demonstrates our Aussie slang. If you're interested, check it out! You might get a bit more of an understanding of my shortened slang. (This is honestly how we speak on a daily basis haha)

Recap:

As I lightly kiss across his sharp collarbones, I hear a heavy thump, a loud groan and the sound of a crash outside my bedroom.

I snap out my trance and quickly reel into sitting position. My door swings open and I see a pained looking Finn, clutching his lg, his cheeks red.

"Door open!" he gasps out.

Miles and I exchange a look, before bursting out into laughter.

-----------------------

"Are you staring?"

"No..." I trail off sheepishly.

"I think you might be," he teases.

I pout. "I can't help it. You're so adorable when you're sleepy."

A lazy smile spreads across Miles' face as he peers down at me through his half-closed lid.

"Thanks babe."

My stomach flutters at his word choice. I reach up and run my fingers through his ashy blond hair. He lets out a deep sound of agreement in the back of his throat, before pushing his head harder into my nails, reminding me of a cat that wants to be scratched.

After cuddling up to Miles for longer than I intended, I reluctantly leave him to shower and get changed into a loose sun dress. While Miles showers, I head downstairs, to see that Finn is lightly snoring in the lounge room, his mouth open as he lays in an unattractive sprawl.

I walk over to him and poke him in the cheek.

"Ergh," he groans and swats my hand away lethargically.

"Wake up, sleepy head."

"Nooo," he protests and hugs his pillow to his chest.

I smile down at him and shake my head. I pad into the kitchen, to see mum already there, the Sunday Telegraph perched in her left hand, a cup of coffee in the other.

"Morning," I say chirpily.

"Good morning," she smiles, lifting her eyes from the paper.

"Not out for brunch today?" I tease her, as she often goes out with her friends on a Sunday morning.

"I'm taking a week break from my usual activities," she replies as she places the paper down and cups her mug with both hands. "Just to make sure Finn is alright."

"He needs to practice using his crutches. He hasn't been on crutches for years."

She nods in agreement. I begin to cook breakfast, when Miles enters the kitchen, his mop of blond hair wet from his shower.

"Good morning," he greets us both with a cheery smile.

Mum hesitates for a moment, as if momentarily forgetting last night, before she smiles back. "Morning Miles. How did you sleep?"

"Like a baby," he whips back in a charming voice.

"Oh good," she replies. "What are you two up to today?"

I shrug as my toast pops. "I don't know, honestly."

"It's a nice day outside," she murmurs as she peers through the window. "Might be a bit windy later on."

"I thought that, too," I agree.

We finish breakfast relatively quick and are on our way by ten a.m. I slide behind the wheel and Miles quirks his eyebrow at me.

"It feels weird that I'm not driving."

"Watch and learn," I jokingly reply as I edge out of the driveway.

"Where are you taking me?" he questions, once we're on the road that takes us out of town.

"You'll see."

While we drive, Miles fiddles with my sound system, turning the bass up. We sing along to whatever song comes on the radio. I change into fifth gear and when I go to retract my hand, he quickly grabs it and squeezes it tightly. I smile over to him briefly, before returning my eyes back to the road.

It takes about thirty minutes to reach our destination. Once close, Miles looked over to me with a smile.

"Millon falls," he says. "I should have guessed."

Millon falls is a place we often used to come to, when we wanted to be alone. We would go swimming and play underneath the water fall for hours. Back when I was his little secret and things were complicated.

"I didn't bring swimmers," he huffs.

"I snagged a pair of Finn's board shorts," I grin.

"Did you now? That was a bit sneaky."

"I'm good at what I do," I reply sarcastically.

After throwing my towel over my shoulder and planting my black cap onto my head, Miles throws his arm around my shoulders as we make our way down to the rocks. We spread our towels neatly onto the grass.

I do a quick scan, to see if anyone else is here. Considering it's a relatively warm Sunday, I'm surprised there aren't other people here. However, it's a spot that only locals are aware of. It's quite secluded.

Miles yanks his shirt over his head and I quickly dart my eyes away as he changes into Finn's shorts.

"You're cute," he teases when he's finished.

I feel my cheeks warm as he steps closer. Slowly, he reaches for the bottom of my dress and slides it over my head. His eyes drink in my exposed body and he pulls his bottom lip in between his teeth as he does. I swallow as I feel a slight ache invade my body as I stare at his defined chest.

My skin feels hot as he stares at me. The air pressure seems to intensify around me the longer stare at each other.

"Want to get wet?" he asks with a smirk on his lips, gesturing to the water, but I feel the weight of his words heavily.

Suddenly reeling back in time to how things used to be, I'm frozen under his intense gaze. I feel hot and bothered as he smirks at me. I thought I was done feeling like the young, innocent girl when I'm with him. I want to be strong and make him feel exactly how he makes me.

"S-sure," I stammer and I mentally face-palm myself.

His smirk deepens as he reaches for my hand and tugs me along after him. When we near the water, I clamber onto his back, tightening my legs around his waist. He lets out a deep laugh as I cling to him like a koala.

As I feel his warm skin against mine, I feel myself relax again. Everything is different now. He loves me. I need to stop letting my past affect the present. We are together, we're in love and we're good.

As we crash into the water, the coldness is sharp and makes me squeal in surprise. I land face first into the water, only to have Miles pull me up by my bicep shortly after. He lets out a laugh as I glower at him.

"Real funny," I say sarcastically, running my hand down my face to clear the excess water.

"I thought so, too," he grins and I roll my eyes at him.

We splash and paddle around together for twenty minutes or so, before I follow him up to the waterfall. The rocks are slippery and he manages to scale up them much quicker than I do. I lose my foot hold once, but luckily don't fall. I breathlessly clamber to the top and a huge smile takes over my face.

I love this place. The smell of the fresh air, the sound of the water rushing, the loud chirping of the birds playing in the trees. To have someone as special as Miles beside me, only makes this whole experience better.

I slide my fingers through his hand, our skin slipping against each other. I look up at him and smile.

"I love you," I tell him in a strong voice.

"I love you, more," he replies and leans down to press his lips briefly to the tip of my nose. "Come on!"

I let out a laugh as he begins to run across the rocks. Half of me wants to cringe watching him go that fast, while the other wants to drool at how gracefully he manages to soar across them, without so much as slipping or stumbling.

We get near the edge and without a moment of hesitation, he leaps off the rock. I shake my head at him as he lets out a loud "woo!" on the way down. He crashes into the water beneath us. I peer of the edge, to see him emerge and flick his hair out. He grins up at me as he lightly treads water, creating a splash as he moves his hands.

"Come on, Is!" he shouts up to me, a wicked, adrenaline-pumped smile lighting up his handsome face.

Drawing an encouraging breath, I run to the edge and jump. A scream leaves my lips and shortly after, the cold water swallows me up. I kick the water roughly and when I emerge, I let out a breathless laugh at the thrill of it.

"Amazing feeling, isn't it?" he breathes beside me as he paddles over to me.

"Yeah," I agree.

We continue to swim and do the jump one more time, before we retire to the grass glade, where our towels are. I fall back onto it with a sigh of content. The sun feels nice as it begins to warm me up.

"Me and you," Miles says after a moment. "A cabin. No one else around."

I prop myself onto my elbows and look over to him. "Hmm?"

"Think how perfect it would be," he insists. "Breakfast in bed, movies, walks through the trees, a cabin to ourselves..."

"Sounds more than perfect," I murmur as reach over to delicately wipe a running water droplet from his defined arm.

He captures my hand in his and softly kisses the inside. His lips feel warm against my skin.

"When can we go?" he asks and I feel his hot breath on me.

"Before exams," I whisper, leaning in close to him. "The next couple of weeks?"

"I'll make the arrangements," he tells me with confidence. "I'm so happy you want to go."

"I'd go anywhere with you," I reply instantly.

He crawls over to me and gently pushes me so that I'm back to laying down. He tenderly strokes my cheek, his thumb rubbing circles into my skin.

"Thank you for welcoming me back in your life."

I reach up and snake my arms around his neck.

"I'm sorry I ever let you go."
