chapter two
Patch up
DURING HER OFF PERIOD, ADRIENE VOLUNTEERED her services in the nurses office. For the most part, it was a quiet and clean place, where she could bury her head in a book, whether it was about mysteries, or how to stitch up a wound. She didn't mind reading the medical books, the Lykos girl loved to retain information, and was almost like a sponge in the way that she soaked things up as much as she could.
"I need some help." A voice startled the girl as she jumped up slightly, hitting her knee harshly on the assistance desk.
"Crap!" She yelled, placing a hand over her heart. "You scared the ever loving shit out of me Wednesday!"
"Well, at least I was able to accomplish something fun today." The Addams girl stayed plain faced and pointed toward the injury she had gotten. "Do you think you will be able to help?"
Adriene had to admit that the girl before her made her nervous beyond belief. It was different than her usual social anxiety, different by a lot. She could form words with the dark haired teen just fine, she just didn't know what she was saying as she was saying them.
"Sure, the nurse is with someone else right now so I can take care of this." The Lykos girl awkwardly scrambled up from her chair and walked to one of the beds not far away, the Addams teen following behind. "Have a seat right here, and i'll put some ointment and a patch over it."
"Do you have black bandages?" Wednesday quirked a slight brow, watching as Adriene bent over to grab the items she needed from the cabinet.
"No but, I can color over one with a sharpie if that makes you feel better." The wolf joked, standing up straight with the bandages and ointment in her hands.
"That would be much appreciated." Wednesday spoke with a nod, her lip turning upward in the slightest way.
Slightest meaning, if you didn't look at her as much as the Lykos girl did, you'd never be able to notice.
"That was kind of a joke but, if you insist.." Adriene picked up a sharpie marker, and quickly filled in the bandage with black. "I don't know how you tolerate pain but, when I put on the ointment it might sting a little."
The Lykos wolf put a small drop of it on her finger before gently applying it to Wednesday's forehead. She avoided eye contact as she did, and took in a sharp breath. The close proximity was something abnormal for her, and with this girl in particular, it was almost scary.
"That was supposed to hurt?" The Addams girl questioned.
"Some of us aren't as tough as you I guess." Adriene shrugged and gently placed the band aid on the girls face. "How'd you get this, anyways?"
"A duel." The dark haired girl answered simply.
"I'm guessing those two odd words are the only thing i'm going to get with you so... i'm going to get back to my book now. Dracula cannot finish itself." The Lykos girl lazily saluted Wednesday and awkwardly walked off.
She left thinking about how much of a dork she was, and sighed.
LACHLAN NARROWED HIS EYES AS HE WATCHED Xavier Thorpe suspiciously leave his room in a hurry. In his natural nosy fashion, he decided it was a good idea to follow after him, in hopes of some good gossip he could send back to Enid. He walked far enough behind that the other boy wouldn't see him but, still close enough to keep up.
"What are you up to?" He mumbled beneath his breath as he followed the other boy through the quad and down a long hallway, the one that led towards the infirmary.
Xavier sped up, and in turn, Lachlan did too until they came across a clearing right before the infirmary corridor. Before anyone knew it, the Thorpe boy was yelling "Wednesday!" and leaping forward to push the girl out of the way. Lachlan sped up, until he was right under a falling gargoyle, and closing his eyes, he bended the rain in his favor to throw the statue that was coming towards him a few feet away.
"Hell." He placed a hand above his heart and let himself fall to the ground in shock, but deep down he was really wondering...
How did Xavier know to be there at the exact time it fell?
"Is she okay?" Lachlan questioned, letting the rain water fall on top of his head, hand on his chest as he looked towards the Addams girl unconscious on the ground.
"I—... I don't know, let's bring her back to the infirmary." The Thorpe boy placed his hands under Wednesday's shoulders, and motioned his head for Lachlan to help.
The Sereia boy, still in shock, scrambled to his feet and gently picked the girl up by her legs, both of them slowly moving towards the building.
"So, you want to tell me why you were out here, only thing on this side is the infirmary?" The siren boy asked, brow raised as the Thorpe boy pushed the door open, and the rain finally ceased to fall on them.
"I—uhm... what were you doing out here? Were you following me, Lanny?" Xavier asked as he lightly shook his head.
"Uh, yeah. You looked suspicious, I followed my gut, and something suspicious happened, explain?" Lachlan was waiting for an answer but, it was silent for a few more moments. "Or I could just jump to my own conclusions when I go tell Enid what happened and—"
"I thought you knew me better than to think I would do something like this." The Thorpe boy spoke, lightly shaking his head.
The Sereia boy scoffed slightly, shaking his head, "I know you, alright."
"What happened here has nothing to do with us, okay? Let's just get Wednesday into the infirmary and worry about everything else later." Xavier finally said with a sigh.
"Fine, have it your way." Lachlan replied.
He was going to find out what happened, that was for sure.
AFTER GETTING AN SOS TEXT FROM LACHLAN, Adriene practically sprinted to the quad to make sure he was okay. Whenever she got one, it was usually some meaningless drama, or he got his feelings hurt by someone he thought he could love, either way, she hoped it wasn't the ladder. She didn't want to see her best friend broken again.
"It's raining out, why did we need to meet out here?" She questioned as she made her way to him, gently smacking his shoulder.
"Because no one else is around." The boy gently waved his hand, and the water didn't hit her anymore, it just sort of, fell around her? She chose to ignore it, he was a water bending siren, after all.
"Okay, so what could this SOS possibly be about since you don't want anyone to know?" Adriene quirked a brow.
"I think someone tried to kill Wednesday, and I think Xavier had something to do with it, or knows who it was." Lachlan informed the girl, who was way beyond behind on the events that unfolded earlier on.
"Is that why she came into the infirmary earlier with a cut on her forehead?" The Lykos girl questioned.
"No, her and Bianca were fencing and she lost, do you not read Enid's blog?" The siren placed two fingers on his temple and shook his head.
"No? Why would I—"
"Okay, that's besides the point then, I seen Xavier being all shifty and so, I followed him and he ended up by the infirmary, pushing Wednesday out of the way just in time for her not to be crushed by a gargoyle which I almost got crushed by, and would have if I wasn't so amazing and powerful." Lachlan sighed dramatically after not having taken one breath between the words he had said.
"Did you ever stop to think it was a coincidence and you're just suspicious of him because you are being bias?" Adriene asked with a quirked brow.
"This has nothing to do with him, it has to do with Wednesday almost being murdered isn't she the love of your life or something?" The Sereia boy desperately wanted his best friend to believe him.
"This is an old building, maybe it fell and he just happened to be there, just promise me you won't go crazy obsessing about this whole thing, I know how you are." The werewolf spoke, gently placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm going to prove it to you, Adri." Lachlan walked off in the opposite direction, and the wolf felt the water finally hitting her head.
If he felt so strongly about it, maybe there was something odd going on at Nevermore?
