chapter one

How it is

ADRIENE SAT QUIETLY ON THE EDGE OF THE fountain in the quad, reading Dracula, one of her favorite books. She had gotten into literature at a young age, it helped her delve deep into a world that wasn't hers, live a life that didn't belong to her. She figured it was her loneliness that drew her to it, but that was okay with her.

"Put that down right now, the most interesting thing to happen to this school since I got here is heading this way." Lachlan spoke in his devilish, yet charming tone, and accent. "The rumors were true, Wednesday Addams is coming to Nevermore."

"Something bad is going to happen to you one day if you keep being nosy merman." The Lykos girl joked with a light smile, tracing her finger underneath the line she left off on before gently shutting her book.

"Is this a threat? Coming from the least threatening thing around this school?" Lachlan laughed as he sat next to his best friend, folding one leg over the other. "I hear she killed someone at her last school."

"If she killed him and got caught, she'd be in jail, not Nevermore." Adriene shrugged her shoulder. "I just don't believe she's as scary as in everyone is saying, sorry to burst your bubble."

"Nevermore, jail, it's all the same to me, this place is dreadfully depressing." The Sereia boy pouted his lips slightly. "Maybe she'll lighten it up."

Just as he said those very words, Wednesday Addams set foot onto the quad. Her dark eyes, and black outfit, along with long braided pigtails made her stand out. Adriene felt a pang against her chest as they made eye contact for the splitest of seconds.

Before long, she had to look away. Looking into someone's eyes was like looking into their soul for her, and it made her quite uncomfortable. That, and the fact that the Addams girls eyes were full of something she could only describe as anger overwhelmed her in a way.

"Okay, so darken it." Lachlan noted as Enid took Wednesday around the Quad/Pentagon, Adriene's eyes finding themselves trailing the two girls. "Earth to Dri, did you go to another planet?"

"Sorry, I got distracted, what were we saying?" The Lykos girl lightly shook her head, and rubbed her eyes before turning to her friend.

"Oh, nothing. Just that Wednesday Addams is going to change this school completely."

ADRIENE WALKED IN THE HALLWAY WITH HER HEAD down towards the floor. Although people had lessened on their dirty looks, it was now a habit for her to avoid the gaze of others. She went from class, or her spot in the quad, right back to her room in which she had a single.

A tradition for Lykos children since the beginning of Nevermore, and another reason for people to envy her.

As she walked though, the girl felt her body stop as it thudding against another, dropping her books to the ground.

"Oh, i'm sorry—" she bent down to reach for her things, not even seeing who it was till she glanced up, meeting the glaring eyes of Wednesday Addams. "You're new, right? I'm—"

"Clumsy." The dark eyed girl interrupted, dusting off her school uniform. "I inferred."

"I was going to say i'm Adriene, Lykos." The wolf awkwardly laughed as she picked up all of her books and dusted them off, not even bothering to pay attention to her outfit.

"I admire your families knack for torture, it's very endearing." Wednesday spoke, her facial expression not changing at all, and eyes not even blinking once.

"Urm—..." Adri couldn't quite think of a response to the odd comment, realizing it was probably best to just change the subject. "Well, welcome to Nevermore, some of us like it more than others."

The wolf glanced around and noticed the two of them speaking was causing others to look at them but, she held her books tighter and gently tapped her foot against the ground to better focus.

"I don't plan on staying long, there's no chance this educational penitentiary can handle me more than a week." The Addams girl looked Adriene up and down, still not blinking. "But I can sense you want to leave just as much as I do."

The Lykos girl was taken aback but nodded her head, knowing the statement was incredibly true.

"I think our reasons for wanting to be out of here are very different but, yes, I don't want to be here anymore." Adriene nodded her head lightly. "If you find a way out, don't hesitate to include me in your plans."

She laughed slightly but, cleared her throat upon realizing she wasn't going to get an emotional response from the other girl.

"I will consider telling you when I found out." With that, the Addams girl carefully walked around the wolf, heading towards her dorm.

Adriene just watching as she walked off.

WHEN LACHLAN WANTED SOMETHING HE tended to get just that. So, it was no surprise he had timed a run in with Enid, the schools resident gossip and brand spanking new roommate to the new girl Wednesday Addams perfectly. He rounded the corner, and slyly turned back around so the two were walking side by side.

"What are you looking for now, Lachlan?" Enid asked with a slight roll of her eye but, a smile. "Information on which siren supposedly got Thornhill to give you a bad grade in class?"

"There's something seriously wrong with that woman, she's after me, I swear." The Sereia boy spoke, holding his hands in the air in defense.

"Get to the point." The werewolf girl stopped walking with a knowing smile, and the pair stood face to face.

"We both know you want to gossip about your new little roommate as much as I want to know about her so, spill, blondie. I want to hear it all." Lachlan had a glint in his eyes you could only see when he was absolutely excited.

... and gossip was one of the only things that ever excited him.

"You know me too well." The pair excitedly clapped their hands together, and Enid took the Siren by his arm, bringing him to sit down. "So, she got here today with her mom, dad, brother, and like a butler guy? Totally creepy vibes coming from him but her brother seemed sweet."

"I know you wouldn't be able to resist asking her about how she got expelled." Lachlan rested his elbow on the top of the chair, leaning in so he could hear every detail.

"Well, she told me she didn't just kill one kid but two, and I really don't know if she was being sarcastic or not, it's really really hard to tell with her." The platinum blonde haired girl furrowed her brows. "I think she only has one setting."

"What setting would that be?" The Sereia boy asked with a raised brow.

"Dead."

LACHLAN SNUCK HIS WAY TOWARDS THE GIRLS dormitory as he usually did on nights like this. Most of the time it was to see his best friend, other times it was to see some girl he was interested in for about five seconds before things fizzled. He was the adventurous type, and figured it was better to experience everything than nothing.

... and it constantly got him into trouble.

"Knock knock." He spoke with a smile. "Do you ever do anything but read? God, I need to get you out of this place."

Lachlan walked over to the girls bed and dramatically threw himself onto it, making Adriene laugh softly.

"What did you do to make you so tired?" The Lykos girl realized what she had asked and then covered her ears, shaking her head lightly. "Nope, never mind please do not tell me."

"Tsk tsk." The Sereia boy hissed, poking the wolfs nose. "Don't be nasty, Dri. I just spent the afternoon doing some very intense sleuthing to get information on Wednesday Addams."

"What is your obsession with her? She's just like the rest of us." Adriene kept telling herself that but, the pigtailed girl had ran through her mind more than once since their little run in.

"Not every day a serial killing maniac comes to Nevermore." Lachlan shrugged. "Color me intrigued."

"Well, I spoke to her today and she seemed just fine, and might I remind you I am basically the spawn of a bloodline of demon wolves." The Lykos girl shrugged. "We've all got issues."

"Have you sicked piranhas on a kid?" The siren put his finger up before his friend could speak. "Piranhas that ended up demolishing his balls?"

"No, but if I had a good reason to, I might." Adriene shrugged lightly.

She tried to imitate Wednesdays blank stare, which made Lachlan increasingly more uncomfortable.

"Okay, okay, you win. No more Wednesday talk."
