CHAPTER FOURTEEN:
MISCHIEF
AND
MARGARITAS

▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

KETTI NEVER THOUGHT SHE'D BE THE TYPE TO ATTRACT A GOD INTO HER LIFE, AND YET, HERE HE STOOD.

"I see your eyes are working."

"No, but you're...Loki," Ketti repeated, blinking in confusion. "I don't — I don't understand. Why are you here? How'd you get in here?"

"I'm a god, darling," Loki rolled his eyes, crossing his arms unbothered. He wasn't dressed in what she'd call his "normal outfit," but more or less some sort of — she'd presume at least — Asgardian leather pants and some sort of shirt.

He was hot.

(She JUST left Frank and she's already after Loki? I can't blame her, he's more Logan's type, not that he'll ever admit that, he's a secret pining puppy, but if it were Thor, I'd definitely agree in this situation. God, does Thor have dreamy arms. I'd like to be wrapped up in those and suffocated until my vision blacks out and I come up for oxygen and I find it in his perfect delicious mouth.)

"Right, but how are you here?" Ketti asked in confusion. "In my place? And...why?"

"That's a very good question," Loki nodded. "The answer for which I am still trying to decipher. Ketti, do you fancy a drink?"

"Like...you wanna get drunk?" Ketti blinked.

Loki nodded. "Get dressed. You look terrible. I'll wait."

An hour later, Ketti walked out of her bedroom to find a woman.

"Still me," Loki spoke. "I prefer this form when I'm having fun."

"You are..."

(And she is. Really. Tom Hiddleston is hot but picture a female with that jawline and those eyes and the accent — oh, everyone's pants would be ruined.)

"Hot," Ketti finished, clearing her throat. "I, um," she brushed back a piece of her hair, a bit more nervous.

Loki arched a delicate eyebrow in amusement. "Come on, darling," she rolled her eyes. "Let's get our drinks on. You've just been through a breakup."

"It wasn't really a breakup," Ketti mumbled, trailing after Loki as they left her apartment.

"Put the show on for someone who didn't hear it all."

"Yeah, can we talk about that," Ketti glanced to Loki as they walked downstairs. "You just...were my cat?"

"Companion," Loki corrected. "You're...interesting, Ketti. So many things about you intertwine in a way they shouldn't. And, yet, you're nothing special."

(Ouch. Don't listen to her, pookie, you're special to me.)

"Uh, excuse me?"

Loki rolled her eyes. "Do we have to a bar? That is incredibly tedious. Take my hand," she offered a manicured hand for Ketti, who took it nervously, praying to the fucking — well, not gods because Loki was next to her, but fucking something that her hands weren't clammy or gross — and Loki teleported them to a back alley. "Much better."

Loki nodded to herself and gestured to a popular club. "I haven't been in this one, have you?"

Ketti blinked. "Do you...just go to clubs and...be human?"

Loki nodded. "I get terribly bored, darling, it's much more fun to sleep my way through Midgard. Of course, you know that better than anyone."

"I do?"

"Frank was good for you," Loki continued, "but he's not meant for you. Come on, let's get a drink."

Ketti followed Loki — tripping because what the fuck she was just casually getting drinks with a goddess? — who waved her hand and cut to the front of the line, pulling Ketti in with her.

The club was packed, bodies moving back and forth, a hurried bartender — who Ketti thought probably made fairly decent tips — and flashing lights, glittery ceilings and blaring music.

Loki tugged Ketti through the crowds, ignoring the males that stopped to look in their direction — or, rather, Loki's direction — and looked to two people at the bar.

"Find something else to do," Loki told the pair with pursed lips, and they nodded, walking off. "Take a seat, love," she told Ketti and brushed her own stool before sitting down. "Two margaritas, love," she addressed the bartender, then looked to Ketti again, black hair cascading over her shoulders as she brushed it back.

"Sweet girl, you are a mess," she told Ketti, who raised her eyebrows in surprise. "But I happen to find you amusing. So I'm going to keep you."

"Keep me?"

"Yes," Loki nodded. "Aside from that very boisterous man you keep the company of, I rather like your friends. And I'm particularly fond of ensuring you get a happy ending."

"Why?" Ketti asked with a confused frown. "Why do you...care?"

Loki sighed, looking over Ketti's makeup. She reached over and brushed back a piece of her hair. "You're so pretty, Ketti Kipps."

Ketti blushed at her words. "I'm—"

"—Pretty," Loki repeated. "And good. I happen to have a soft spot for all things pretty and good. That's all there is to it, yes?"

Ketti nodded, watching numbly as Loki took a sip of her margarita.

"Good girl," Loki winked. "Oh, you're so cute when you react to that. I wonder what else you'll react to."

"W-what...?"

"Logan can wait," Loki took another sip. "Ever been with a goddess, darling?"

(This is permitted. If it were Thor, I'd do the same. Logan gets it. Well, not really, but he gets that we get it.)

"I..."

"As I thought," Loki smirked a bit. "Let's be roommates. I've never had one before. Could be fun."

"Technically you've been my cat," Ketti pointed out.

"True," Loki nodded. "Which has been fun, but I think we've more fun to come."

"We do?"

"Drink up, lovely," Loki nodded to Ketti's drink. "It's going to be a long evening, and I've taken your phone so there aren't any more terribly embarrassing voicemails to that friend of yours."

"What?" Ketti asked, confusion filling her face.

"Of course you don't remember," Loki sighed. "Ketti Kipps, I'm going to fix you."

(She doesn't need fixing.)

"Do I need fixing?"

"Desperately."

Ketti wasn't sure how it happened.

One second, her and Loki were drinking margaritas in a club she didn't catch the name of.

The next second, they were on the top of a roof, seeing who could balance on one leg without falling.

"I promise I'll catch you," Loki told her, closing her eyes as she held a leg up. "I'm not the least bit tipsy. Asgardian ale is a beast in its own."

"Maybe I try it sometime?" Ketti slurred. "Or maybe you spit it in my mouth. Whaaaaat?"

Loki laughed. "You're so cute, Ketti," she reached over and squeezed her cheek, green eyes meeting hers. "I won't take you tonight though, love. You've just had your heartbroken. Tomorrow, perhaps."

"Promise me?"

"If you're good."

Ketti let out a whoop of excitement, then jumped excitedly — to which Loki caught her — and spotted Spider-Man.

"Peterrrrrrrr!" Ketti shouted, leaning against Loki.

Spider-Man's head turned and he immediately stumbled his landing, straight into a building. Then webbed his way across.

"Ketti?" He asked, walking over to the pair. "Um, hello," he cleared his throat, putting on a deeper voice. "Ma'am, I think you're confused, my name is Spider-Man."

"I find Loki!" Ketti exclaimed, stumbling towards Peter. "That's her!"

"Her?" Peter asked.

"Any gender," Loki shrugged, watching Peter. "Hello, Peter Parker."

"Oh." Peter took his mask off, wide eyed. "Um, hi-hi ma'am. I'm Peter Parker. How'd you know that? You know me?"

"Know you?" Loki walked closer to him. "Darling, I've cuddled in your lap."

"That's weird," Peter blurted, then his eyes widened. "Oh, man, are you gonna tell Gwen?" He looked to Ketti. "I swear it isn't cheating, I didn't know your cat was a—"

"—She's not gonna blame you for petting a cat," Ketti shook her head. "That sounds vaguely dirty. Pet the kitty." She giggled to herself.

"Is she drunk?" Peter asked Loki.

"Very much," Loki nodded.

"Oh," Peter nodded. "Okay. Well, uh, I was kind of in the middle of tracking down this guy, but, I can take her home?"

"I miss Wade," Ketti pouted, sitting on the rooftop. "He miss me?"

"Yes."

"Of course he does."

(So fucking much, baby.)

"Man," Ketti groaned, moving onto her back. "I should live up here. See every star in the star system."

"Solar system," Peter corrected.

Loki hummed. "Technically correct."

"It's not?"

"For Midgardians, it's fine," Loki rolled her eyes. "Ketti, darling, close your eyes. We'll take you home in a moment."

"Yes, Mommy."

"Oh, that's new."

"Yikes, oh, I need — I'm gonna go."
