25 | Dinner

Harry took a deep breath then knocked on the door. With a bag of groceries and a bouquet of red roses in hand, he was ready. Or as ready as he'd ever be.

When it opened, his heart skipped a beat. Merlin, he loved her. A vision in a white dress. He cleared his throat and smiled. "Hello."

Ginny chewed on her bottom lip. Her hand gripped the doorframe. She almost didn't look happy to see him. Maybe this was a mistake. All his hard experiences kept him booted to that spot in the corridor rather than turning tail and running.

He swallowed and tried again. "Are you hungry?" He held the bag up.

Her gaze slid over the bag then she nodded and took a step back. When he passed her, his shoulder brushed against hers. She stiffened but didn't say anything. After a moment, she shut the door and leaned back against it. Her gaze caught on the floor.

"Ginny," he started.

She took a deep breath then pushed away from the door. "What're you cooking?"

He handed over the roses, and she smiled.

"Thank you." She took them and walked over to the table. It was set for two. She grabbed the golden vase and filled it with water.

Smiling, he walked into the kitchen behind her and placed the bag on the table. "I just need to heat it up."

"Heat up what?" she asked, putting the roses in the vase. She placed it on the table.

"I made Shepherd's Pie."

She pursed her lips and tilted her head. "That's my favorite."

He laughed. "I didn't need to ask anyone. I just remembered."

A small smile spilled onto her lips. "Of course you did."

He turned on the oven. She came up behind him and leaned against the counter. She watched him. And he got the feeling that she didn't know what do about him. In her flat or in her life. Truth was he didn't know either.

All he knew were his feelings for her.

"Would you like some wine? I have some Elderflower wine if you'd like some," she said softly.

He peeked over his shoulder. It seemed like she came to some decision. He took a deep breath. "I'd love that." He pushed up his glasses. "This shouldn't take too long."

"I can be patient." She poured the wine and handed one to him. "Did you make this yourself? No magic?"

He shrugged. "Most of the time, I find cooking without magic nice. I rarely do it, what with all the hours I spend at Headquarters, but for you, I'd cook all kinds of things."

She tried to cover her smile with a sip of her wine. The oven beeped, and he slipped in the Shepherd's Pie.

"It'll be ready soon," he said.

She walked over and filled up his glass then topped off her own. "Sit." She put her glass down and lifted her wand to the two candles on the table. She lit them.

A moment later, the oven beeped. "I'll get it." Ginny go up and the Shepherd's Pie floated over. Ginny sat down once it was on the table. She took a sip of wine. "It smells delicious."

His heart skipped a beat. The candles lit her up. She was quite the sight. "I hope you think it tastes good."

She chuckled. "I'm sure it's amazing." She reached across to serve herself but knocked over her wine glass. It spilled on the table and her white dress. She jumped to her feet. "Dammit!"

He laughed then covered his mouth.

She glared at him.

He held his hands up. "I'm sorry." He got up and moved around the table, wand in hand. With the flick of his wand, the mess was cleaned up and then removed the stain on her dress.

Running her hands over the clean spot, she looked up. She pursed her lips then whispered, "Thank you."

And this close, he couldn't help himself. He kissed her, his arm coming around her back. She reciprocated, hands sliding into his hair.

What the hell was he doing? He just made dinner. They should be eating, chatting, getting to know each other again. He should be taking things slow, but when it came to her, he never could keep his head on straight.

She pushed him back, and he stumbled through a door. It hit the wall. He grabbed her, pulling him closer. She tugged on his shirt, pulling it over his head. Her fingers brushed over her chest and his eyes closed at the sensation.

Yeah, dinner could wait.

Harry's hands slid to her neck and pushed down the right strap of her dress. Pulling away from the kiss, he moved and brushed his lips against the skin that appeared. She sighed. He moved over to the other shoulder and did the same.

"Harry," she whispered.

His heart pounded in his chest as he reached behind her to unzip her dress. It slipped down her body and she wrapped her arms around him, kissing him again. He lifted her and peeked a bed behind her. He carried her over.

Ginny pulled back and got on her knees. Hands landed on his belt. "You can't stop me now." She kissed him again and he wasn't going to stop her. Hell, no one could stop him now.

The belt came off then he pushed her down on the bed.

A tapping filled the room.

Harry's hands ran over her body. Merlin. Sweet Merlin. He kissed her, fingers brushing against her bra.

The tapping came again.

He unfastened her bra. Fingers brushing against her skin.

The tapping became more insistent.

Harry pulled back. "Merlin's Beard!"

Laughing, Ginny sat up. "An owl."

"Nope," he told her, pushing her back down and kissing her. He meant it. There was no way he was stopping this time.

She kept laughing, pushing him away. She reached for her nightstand, missing a few times, but finally she got her wand. She opened the window, and the owl flew in. It came straight for him. He groaned.

"Looks like it's for you," she said.

He fell back onto the bed and raised his hand. The owl came and landed. He grabbed the parchment. It flew away. He dropped it on his chest and closed his eyes.

"Aren't you going to read it?"

He shook his head. "I don't want to." He rolled over and laid his hand on her cheek. He brushed her hair back over her ear and leaned over to kiss her. "Just want to stay here. Focus on you."

She smiled. "I'll be here."

Exhaling, he opened the letter then groaned again. Of course, it was from Robards.

Come in. We have news about a possible location for Fyrefox.

"Is it about me?" Ginny scooted over and peeked at the letter. Her eyebrows rose.

He got up and pulled on his shirt. Time to get back to work. He looked at her on the bed. "I have been tasked with catching you, remember." He ran his fingers through his hair to flatten it. "I have to go. I'm sorry about dinner. Go ahead and eat. I'll come back tomorrow."

She got up, pulling the blanket around her. She followed him when he walked toward the front door.

When he opened the door, he stopped and turned back. Ginny stepped forward and kissed him quick. His eyes closed and licked his lips.

"See you tomorrow," she whispered.

He opened his eyes and smiled at her. Mussed hair, a gold sheet wrapped around her. "Stay out of trouble until then." He took a step out of the flat then shut the door behind him.
