Tim.
Just as I entered my office and sat down opposite from Rob, Kevin knocked on the door.
I really didn't want to turn around and look at him, but when I did, he gave me an apologetic smile and held up another stack of files.
At that point, I hadn't even started to work on the ones Austin had given me or let alone the shit I was usually supposed to do. However, Kevin didn't know that and instead put them on my desk and patted my back as he left again.
"Is anybody even doing their own work in here?" I groaned and watched Austin put down his newspaper. Yet he didn't do much and when I lifted an eyebrow, he just mimicked me before he went back to reading.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Rob chuckled as he typed something on his keyboard. Well, it could've been work, but judging by the situation and Rob's usual habits, he wasn't working. I was willing to bet he just emailed his wife or something.
With a small smile, I faked an offended huff as I shoved my sleeves up slightly and grabbed the first file. This was just another normal day, I told myself.
Just another day in my new life as office corpse.
I let out a long sigh and thankfully the other two started to work properly soon enough. But because I had to work on Austin's finished files and Rob had to work on mine I quickly had more and more work on my desk.
Actually, I could understand why Adam didn't want to go today. It was just one of those days. However, I was still worried about him. He didn't seem to run a fever or something, but I should listen to him the next time he doesn't feel too good.
Kevin later came back around for lunch with some apology coffees for Rob, Austin and me. It was kinda cute that he still felt bad, but then again, this was our job and we got paid for it, so nobody really minded.
Only a few minutes after Kevin had left Adam walked by, sat on my lap and started to eat his lunch. Just out of habit I lay one arm around his waist.
Usually, we made our food for the day on the evening before it, so we had more time in the morning, but somehow today we were still late.
"How are you feeling?" I asked him and tried to keep my voice as quiet as possible, so neither Austin nor Rob would notice. Well, they had noticed Adam on my lap and that I had stopped working because of that, but they didn't need to know about our issues. "Has your day been okay so far?"
Adam gave me a confused glance before he seemed to understand what I meant. Quickly, he swallowed that last bit of sandwich before he gave me another one of these cute apologetic smiles.
"Yeah, I-I don't know what was going on earlier," he chuckled and leaned down to press a sweet kiss to my forehead. "Guess, I was just being weird."
"No, it's okay, you could call in sick if that happens again. Everybody has a bad day sometimes," I told him and watched as he took a sip from my coffee.
"But it's not been a bad day," he insisted.
I let out a long sigh and wrapped my arms tighter around Adam's waist while he continued to eat in silence. He looked happy to me and maybe I was just overthinking everything, but I could never not worry about him.
The lunch break was over far too fast and after Adam returned to his own office the day kinda just dragged on for another eternity until at first Austin and then Rob left.
About an hour after the guys left did I turn my computer off and went up to get my jacket. Around the same time Adam probably did the same and as soon as my computer had finally shut down he stood in the doorway and waited for me.
I gave him a quick smile as I threw my jacket on before I grabbed his hand. We went to the elevator and I leaned slightly against Adam as my body slowly started to catch up with my worn out mind. The longer we were anywhere but at home the more I could feel my body growing heavier and heavier.
Before we left the building we greeted and said goodbye to Alexander, the other porter. Alexander, other than Jeremy, was a really sweet guy, maybe a bit slow but really nice.
"You drive," I told Adam as we walked over the gigantic parking lot and approached our car. I gave him the keys and a quick kiss before I walked around it. Then I stretched my back for a second until something popped before I finally went into the car and let Adam drive us home.
The ride itself was really no big deal and we kept on an idle conversation about nothing important, but I noticed how hard it was to keep my eyes open.
It wasn't even that late.
When we finally found a parking spot, Adam killed the engine and I dragged myself out of the car and to the front door.
Adam quickly checked our mailbox for any letters or bills, but I couldn't be bothered to help him. Instead, I leaned against the still closed door and watched him. He was so concentrated, but for a moment, he froze and almost dropped the other letters.
"Something in there?" I asked, but he vehemently shook his head. I could see him slide one of the letters under his jacket before he gave me the other ones, but I didn't question it. In retrospect, I should have asked him about it, but in that moment I didn't. "You alright?" I asked instead.
"Yeah, just a bit cold," Adam answered and gave me a small smile. To underline his statement he even rubbed his arms, but truth to be told not even I was cold and usually I was the one to freeze first.
"We're almost home," I assured him and as soon as I had the front door open I pulled him closer to me.
We walked like that all the way to the elevator and to our apartment. Although it probably looked funny, to me it was the most natural thing. (Mostly because I had Adam close, not because we looked stupid.)
As soon as we entered our apartment I threw my jacket and shoes off and fell onto the couch like a rock.
"What a day," I breathed out and watched Adam undress much slower. He slid something from his jacket into his pants before he hung his and my jacket up and put my shoes where they belonged.
Then he let his hair out of the ponytail and went to the bedroom before he walked to the kitchen to get himself and hopefully me, too, some water.
"That bad?" Adam asked as he loosened his tie and plopped down next to me.
"I had Scott and Mitch before my second cup of coffee," I whined and took a glass of water from Adam. I gulped down some of the liquid before I let myself fall against his shoulder. "They're throwing an office party tomorrow."
"Party like nice sitting together or party like loud music and alcohol?" Adam asked and rubbed his hand over my back in comforting motions.
"When we're unlucky you won't be the only one that knows how to professionally take his clothes off," I murmured and closed my eyes thinking back to the days when Adam used to wear women's underwear on stage for a living. A small smile spread over my lips, he even still had that stuff in his closet.
"It's always nice to meet old friends again," Adam chuckled and I couldn't help but groan.
