Chapter 3- One Song. Two Voices
The corridor is like my own stage. Everyone is watching my figure, inspecting some grand show to come afoot. Phoenix is chatting beside me about music class and how awesome it is, yet, I'm not concentrating on him. My mind is lost in the thought of my family. Did they even love me? This question comes to mind every time I think of them. I try not to show how weak I really am. But, I am getting crushed inside because of it.
You may be wondering why I know all these 'big word's and can use 'very descriptive words'. Well, I am secretly smart. I know right, the so called 'Player' is smart. I don't very much like to show it because being smart isn't cool. So, I keep it hidden. I'm secretly a nerd.
"Mr. Plum is a fucking legend." Phoenix concludes. I chuckle even though I had no idea what the conversation held.
"The class sounds fucking legit." I reply back and he nods his head with enthusiasm.
"Yeah, also he is just a few years older than us, so pranking him and being an idiot is fine with him." He also states and makes me pleased. At my old school, an ignorant bold man was teaching music. And let me say, he had no taste in music what-so-ever. "OH! I haven't told you the best part! It's an all boy class." An all boy class? That's pretty sick. "Anyway, here we are." He flings his arms up, towards the sign saying 400.
"Dude, I can read you know."
"Oh...I thought you were illiterate." He walks into the room. It takes me a second to catch on that insult.
"OI!" I yell and run in after him.
"Bastard." I hear someone yell-whisper under their breath when I walk into the room. I look up and see Scott and Ethan glaring at me. I give them the same glare back then focus my eyes on Dylan. He is shaking his head at the two boys beside him and gives me a small smile. I return it with my own.
"You must be Mr. Black." I look over to my left and see a massive man leaning on an oak wood table. His hair is the colour of fire, with eyes to match, a lean figure with a tanned complexation and a handsome face. He is wearing a plain orange t-shirt with black jeans to complement it. To top it off, he was wearing red vans. He looks like a ball of fire.
"Wait, YOU'RE our music teacher?!" He was WAY younger than I thought. I was thinking mid-twenties or early thirties.
"You surprised?" He asked while making his way towards me.
"Well...Yeah! What is a guy as good looking as you here?" I could hear the shock in my voice.
"I have always wanted to teach music and this was the best job for it. Although, it is a bit irritating when girls keep fawning over me."
"I get you dude."
"Mmm. Well, have you got your new student forms?" Forms? I didn't know anything about forms.
"If I can interrupt." Phoenix steps up beside me and addresses the teacher. "If we went to do all that form crap we would've been late."
"Mr. Moon..."
"Phoenix."
"..even if he and you were going to be late I wouldn't give a shit. Now take your seats." Phoenix chuckles and takes a seat in the middle row. "Oh and Mr. Black."
"Zenith is fine Sir."
"Well, Zenith, make sure you get those forms after class. You can take your seat." I walk away from him and take a chair next to Phoenix.
"Man, you were right. He is a fucking legend." I high-five Phoenix.
"Oh, by-the-way, he likes to be called Leo. He thinks 'Sir' is to formal."
"Then why is he calling us by our last names. It pisses me off."
"It's to piss you off." He laughs and spins his head around to the board. As do I.
"Can't believe you are in this class." I jump and face to my right. Dylan has taken up the seat beside me. "Did I scare you again?" He asks with a smirk.
"You have got to stop doing that!" I yell.
"Dudes. Shut the hell up. The teacher is starting." Dylan and me look to the front.
"Hello everyone. Today we are going to learn how to play the gui..." A knock echoed through the room. Everyone remained quiet and was looking at the door. "Oh no, it's a girl." I face back to my teacher just to see him duck under his desk.
I heard the door open but I was too focused on the teacher's desk to look. He is such a wimp.
"DAM! Look at that body!" I hear a fellow member of the class say. I face the door and find non-other than Galaxy. She struts into the room with a neutral expression.
"Where is the teacher?" She asks the whole class. She hasn't seen me yet. Or Phoenix for that matter.
"Is it fun your looking for? Because I can make your time worthwhile." Replies the same guy as before. I look behind me and see the culprit. He has plain blonde hair, bland blue eyes and a normal face structure. He looks like a plain looking guy.
"I would rather not." She replies back with a disgusted look. She scans the room. Her eyes land on mine and I see a small smile start to form on her mouth. I point to the desk where Leo was hiding.
"What the hell is he doing down there?" She asks me.
"He is a wimp." I conclude to her and she lets out a small chuckle and I hear some sighs going around the room.
"I AM NOT A WIMP!" Leo says from beneath the table. Galaxy shakes her head and strides to the desk. She swings her leg back and smashes her foot against the desk. A rumble chants through the room. Leo gets out from under the desk holding the side of his head. "WHY DID YOU D.." He looks at Galaxy in awe. She gives a faceless expression.
"Sorry." She whispers and Leo stumbles back a bit. After a moment, he straightens his shoulders and looks at her in a flirtatious way.
"What may your name be beautiful?" Is he really flirting with her? What an idiot.
"Galaxy."
"Oh, the other new member of the class. Do you have your forms?"
"That's why I was late." Leo takes the forms from her and goes through it.
"Seems that it is all here Miss...Moon." His face morphs into one of realisation. "MOON! Great, now I have two of them." Galaxy has a look of confusion and glances around the room. Her eyes set to the left of me. To Phoenix. She smiles.
"BRO!" She runs to him. Phoenix gets up before she smashes into him. She wraps her legs around his waist.
"Nice to see you again." He looks away from her and glares at Leo. Leo looks away. Blushing.
She gets off him and faces the whole room. Her eyes lock with Dylan.
"Dylan." She says and walks up to him. "Thanks for the directions to the main office."
"The pleasure is all mine Angel." She goes up and hugs him.
"Is that why you were late to class dude?" Ethan spoke up and Galaxy whips her head in that direction.
"You guys are here too?" Galaxy speaks out towards both Scott and Ethan. Scott looked at her with a scowl on his face.
"Yes Sweetheart, I am. Why don't you run along because this is an ALL BOYS class." Ethan nods his head.
"Baby," Galaxy replies while slowly walking to him, "I don't give a shit if this is a boy's class. It's a music class. You can't claim it as a one gender class." She is right up in his face. "I have a right to be in this room." She turns around, "Oh, and by the way, don't call me Sweetheart." She strides back to where Dylan and me were sitting and Phoenix was standing.
"Why don't you show us how you deserve the right to be in this classroom," Ethan stands up and looks directly at Galaxy. "If you aren't some spineless, pathetic, worthless human, why don't you give us a music performance. Then we, as a class, will determine if you are worthy of being here." Galaxy looks down, a face morphed of defeat. She looks like she is holding something back. I can see Phoenix looking at her just in my eye sight. I look towards Galaxy again and she her hands clenched in tight fists.
"Mmmhhhmmmm. Mhm. Mhm." I snapped my head back to Phoenix. His eyes are closed and his hands are moving in slow motions. Galaxy is looking at him weirdly.
"I stare at my reflection in the mirror:
Why am I doing this to myself?"
He sings in a melodise tune. He has so much pain and emotion behind his voice that it is exactly getting to my blackened heart. He hasn't opened his eyes. I look to Galaxy and she has tears at the corner of her eyes.
"Losing my mind on a tiny error,
I nearly left the real me on shelf. No, No, No, No, No"
Galaxy opens her mouth.
"Don't lose who we are,
in the blur of the stars!"
Galaxy has the voice of a siren. So, beautiful. So, emotional. Like she has and is dealing with so much pain and stress. She is singing in perfect harmony with Phoenix. They both know the lyrics and they both have their eyes squeezed shut.
"Seeing is deceiving,
Dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay."
I know what this song is. It's the song that Phoenix mentioned to me. The song that there mum sang to them when they were little. The song she sang to them every night.
"Sometimes it's hard,
to follow our hearts.
Tears don't mean were losing,
Everybody's bruising.
Just be true to who we are!"
I look around the room. Ethan has a look of awe and Scott has one of disbelief.
"Just be true to who we are.." Galaxy holds the note perfectly. Everyone in the room begins to clap at them except Ethan and Scott which they are looking everywhere but us. Galaxy looks at Phoenix and he stares back at her. Mr. Plum claps slowly.
"See students. This was a perfect performance. I think Miss Moon has shown she deserves to be in this class." He beams at her and Galaxy smiles back. We take up seats with Phoenix next to Galaxy, Galaxy next to me and I'm next to Dylan. The teacher begins talking but Phoenix leans over to Galaxy.
"Um, Sis...What did happen to our parents?" Galaxy takes a gasp of breath in. She stares at the desk in shock. Every breath she takes is shaky.
"Mum died right after they left you in the orphanage. It was a sudden death. Dad is...all healthy and well." She stutters and whispers through it. A few tears begin to fall from her eyes and Phoenix is just in the same state.
"Did dad tell you why he left me to fend for myself and left me on the streets to die! Did he even love me?!" He yells and the teacher looks at him in anger. He quiets down but keeps looking at Galaxy.
"They didn't want to leave you but they couldn't provide the proper care for both of us. But....maybe to was better that you weren't with us."
"What do you mean?" He asks in shock but Galaxy just stares forward. Phoenix lets out a breath of defeat. But I didn't get it. Phoenix had to fend for himself and she is saying that he couldn't of had a better life with them? Something isn't right about this. I glance at Galaxy and see crystals at the side of her eyes. She looks over at me and smiles weakly. I return it.
------
After class, Dylan, Phoenix, Galaxy and me wait outside the door.
"I have maths with Mrs. Dot." Phoenix states and Dylan looks at him and smiles.
"So do I dude." They look at each other and smile.
"YES! I have P.E!" I exclaim. I look towards Galaxy.
"I have P.E as well." She looks at me and beams.
"We have P.E too." I look towards Ethan and Scott and their both smiling at us.
"This is going to be great! See you 2 there!" She smiles brightly at them and they look at her in surprise. She grabs my wrist and walks off waving at Dylan and Phoenix over her shoulder.
"What are you doing?" I ask and she looks behind her to me.
"I didn't want to get into a fight." She replies while releasing my wrist. "Well, I better get changed for P.E so I'll see you real soon." She walks off to her locker and I just gaze at her. I shake my head. Why am I looking at a girl walking down the corridor? Shouldn't she be doing that to me? I shake my head and head in the opposite direction, away from her and away from my confusion.
