Prologue

CELESTRIA, 60 AD (after dragons)

Queen Visaena stood in her young daughter's room, holding her close. The room is adorned with delicate tapestries and intricate dragon-themed decor, reflecting the quiet feeling the room gives. The king had just begun his fourth feast of the week. Lords and ladies traveled far and wide to attend his extravagant party, most getting turned away before they could reach the grand keep. He insisted on having them to celebrate his young wife's pregnancy. It was her third. Only one of her pregnancies went full term. The nurses were all insistent this one would also go full term, and that she would finally bear the king's son, his heir. When she gave birth to their first child he was dejected to find out it was a girl.

Visaena adored her daughter. Maybe because they only had each other, but she was just a sweet little girl. Visaena's mother had died whilst giving birth to her younger brother, who died two days later. Her father, who was the hand of the king, was terrible. He didn't care for Visaena and her daughter's wellbeing, he only cared for the succession of the throne, and that his bloodline would prevail through centuries.

"Your grace, you should rest before the feast. We cannot let any stress harm the babe. Here, let me hold the princess." One of the nurses said to her. But she wasn't listening. She was barely present. She did this a lot. Going into her own mind, hoping to live a better life there. It never worked. She was always brought back to the present somehow.

"No, I am quite able to care for my daughter on my own. You are dismissed." She didn't mean for it to come out so forcefully and rude, but the long nights and days with her lord husband made her become quite defensive to everyone around her, save for a select few. Her daughter, Her good cousin Princess Rhaenys, her sworn guard Ser Criston Cole, and the child she would soon give birth to. If it survived.

Visaena was about to put Eliana down when there were loud insistent knocks on the wooden door.

"Ser Criston?" She spoke, hoping it was just him there. The door swung open revealing him and Princess Rhaenys, who had a cloak covering her head. Rhaenys rushed in, Ser Criston not far behind shutting the creaky door.

"We have to leave. You are not safe here my Queen. Neither of you are." Her guard uttered. The queen turned toward the window, still bouncing her two-year-old daughter in her arms. She realized she must have been in her trance state when she saw the front of the castle in chaos. War.  One of the planets must have retaliated to the king's insistent calls of warfare. Thunder roared hitting many outposts of the castle's defenses. Thor.

"Visaena." Rhaenys smiled softly at the girl she cared for so dearly.

"We must leave now, dear girl." She took Eliana from her arms, knowing it would be more efficient. Saena turned around rushing to a drawer. She opened it taking the contents and stuffing them into a bag. Her mother's dagger, and her circlet. Both adorned in green jewels.

The four exited the castle through the dungeons. Rhaenys nor Ser Criston had told Visaena where they were going. But she trusted them both with her and her children's life. Ser Criston kept close to the queen, while Rhaenys kept a tight hold on Eliana as well as leading the way out.

The princess finally stopped before an old ruin beneath the castle. She softly put Eliana on the ground, before flinging her arm in front of her. A purple glow enveloped the ruin creating a portal. First Ser Criston walked through still holding the Queen's arm, then Rhaenys grabbed Eliana's hand pulling her into it safely before closing it. As if they were never there.

Earth, Brooklyn, 1942
eight years later...

It turned out Rhaenys took them to Earth. Apparently, the one place they were safe. Vis never questioned why, as she knew other planets that knew of Celestria would never take in the queen. She finally felt peace in the eight years spent on this planet. She no longer had to look over her shoulder defensively and didn't have to serve her now-dead husband. She felt ... normal!

Rhaenys had visited Earth many times, even making a few allies there. She told Visaena their cover story. Visaena was her niece who moved from England with her children to live with Rhaenys. (because according to the princess, their accent was that of an English human) As for Ser Criston, he was her brother... her very protective older brother named Cole. Rhaenys and Ser Criston had a job working for the SSR, a top-secret agency, Visaena stayed with Eliana and Jace, homeschooling them and teaching them the good parts of their heritage.

Another great thing about Earth was the doctors. Her pregnancy thankfully went full term and she gave birth to a boy. Ironic really. The moment she got away from the wretched king, she finally had what he desired most. She named her son Jace. After Rhaenys late son who died just days after he was born. (If you couldn't tell already Celestrians loved to honor dead family members.)

Visaena enters her now ten-year-old daughter's room. her footsteps soft against the floor. Eliana sat by the window, gazing out at the bustling streets below, her dragon egg nestled in her lap. The egg was a deep shade of emerald, speckled with hints of gold. Ser Criston had grabbed it before they left Celestria. He thought the princess should be allowed something to remind her of the good parts of her heritage and home. The egg turned to stone over time. Not being in the right environment.

"Eliana, my sweet, what do you see today?"

"I see the people, Mother. They move like ants, each with their purpose. Sometimes, I wonder what it would be like to be one of them." She replied, her voice distant, still staring out the window. Visaena approaches her daughter, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. She looks out the window, following her gaze.

"Their lives may seem simple, but they face struggles just as we do. Different, perhaps, but no less real."

"I know, Mother It's just... sometimes I feel so disconnected. As if I'm meant for something I cannot see." Visaena smiles sweetly at her daughter rubbing her back softly.

"You have a gift, Ella. Your dreams and visions are a rare blessing, even if they feel like a burden at times. They may guide us in ways we do not yet understand." Eliana turns to look at her mother, her eyes filled with a mixture of uncertainty and hope.

"Do you really believe that, Mother?"

"I do. And I believe in you. I see your strength and your hope."

"Thank you, Mother. Sometimes, I just need reassurance." Eliana smiled. The two shared a quiet moment, and the bond between mother and daughter was a beautiful sight.

The bustling streets of Brooklyn were alive with the sounds of children playing, vendors calling out their wares, and the occasional rumble of a trolley passing by. Visaena walked holding the hands of her children. Eliana's eyes were wide with wonder, taking in the sights and sounds of the busy street, while Jace walked with a serious expression, his eyes darting around, alert and curious.

"Mother, look! That shop has the prettiest dresses!" Eliana exclaimed excitedly.

Visaena smiled down at her daughter, squeezing her hand gently. "Perhaps we can take a look, sweetling. But first, we need to find some essentials."

Jace tugged at Visaena's other hand, pointing towards a nearby newspaper stand where a group of boys were gathered, eagerly reading the headlines about the war.

"Mother, can we get a newspaper? I want to know what's happening," Jacaerys asked. He had always been curious about wars. Always nagging his mother and Rhaenys about it. He even forced Ser Criston to give him fighting lessons, so he could fight like the Queen's guard of Celestria.

Visaena nodded, leading them toward the stand. As they approached, a few of the boys gave them curious looks, their attention drawn by Visaena's unusual circlet upon her head and the children's unique features.

Just then, a young man with a charming smile and a confident stride stepped up to the stand dressed in his Army uniform. He was buying a newspaper, but his eyes caught sight of Visaena and her children, curiosity piqued.

"New in town?" Visaena looked up, meeting his eyes.

"Yes, we are. Just settling in, actually," Visaena replied.

The man extended a hand, his smile warm and welcoming. "James Barnes. But everyone calls me Bucky."

Visaena took his hand, shaking it firmly. "Visaena. And these are my children, Eliana and Jace." She was a tad self-conscious of their names, knowing they were far different from human names on earth.

Eliana and Jace both gave shy nods, the latter's eyes fixed on Bucky's uniform. The man knelt down to reach their level.

"Nice to meet you both. How are you liking Brooklyn so far?"

Eliana smiled shyly, her earlier excitement giving way to curiosity. "It's very different from where we're from. But it's... interesting."

"And where exactly are you from? I couldn't help but notice your accents, among other things." He uttered, standing back up. Visaena chuckled softly, already enjoying the presence of this man.

"We are from Cele-"

"England. We are from England." Visaena cut off her eager son. He forgot at that moment, all the times his mother told him their cover story. Too infatuated with his real home. Jace, still eager, studied Bucky intently.

"Are you a soldier?" he asked.

Bucky nodded "That's right. Heading out soon, actually. Doing my part for the country."

Visaena watched the interaction with a mixture of appreciation and sadness, knowing the reality of the war, and how she wished she could help with her abilities. "It's an honor to meet someone so brave. Thank you for your service."

Bucky waved off the compliment with a modest smile. "Just doing what needs to be done. If you need any help getting settled, feel free to ask. Brooklyn's a friendly place."

Eliana tugged at Visaena's sleeve, whispering something in her ear. Visaena nodded, turning back to Bucky. "Actually, there is something. Do you know where we might find some good books? My daughter loves to read."

Bucky's face lit up with a grin. "Absolutely. There's a great little bookstore just a few blocks from here. I can show you if you'd like."

Visaena nodded appreciatively. "That would be wonderful. Thank you, Bucky."

As they walked together, Bucky led the way, chatting animatedly with Eliana and Jace about Brooklyn, the war, and the best places to visit in the city. Visaena followed, feeling a warmth spread through her heart. In this moment of uncertainty and change, she had found a kindred spirit in the most unexpected place.

"Will I see you again?" Bucky asked, standing at the doorstep of the family's new home.

"I hope so." And she does. She more than sees him. They fell in love. Not long after meeting him, she told him everything about where she came from. At first, he didn't believe her, but when she showed him her abilities, he quickly changed his mind.

They lived a happy life together. She met his best friend, Steve Rogers, who became like a little brother to her. And Bucky met Rhaenys and Criston (who isn't too fond of him). In late 1944, she became pregnant with his child. In 1945, Bucky died in the war, leaving Visaena heartbroken. The loss shattered her, as Bucky profoundly changed the course of her life, filling it with love and hope.

Just when she thought she couldn't bear any more pain, tragedy strikes again. Later that same year, Steve Rogers died in a plane crash, one that saved a mass of people. This second blow is more than she can handle. The weight of losing both Bucky and Steve in such a short period became her breaking point, plunging her into a deep well of grief and despair. She gave birth to Bucky's son who she named Lucerys, Luke for short, after her late brother.

After years of sitting with her grief, Visaena had the idea to go back to Celestria. Rhaenys argued against the idea, knowing whatever was left of their home couldn't be good. But Visaena reasoned with her mother figure, it was their home. And her children deserved to see where they came from.

FIFTEEN EARTH YEARS LATER, CELESTRIA, 70 AD

The Celestrian skies were full of sorrow, painted with the remnants of a kingdom long scarred by war. Visaena stood at the front of the wrecked gates, her heart heavy with uncertainty as she guided her children toward the once-great city of Celestria. The journey had been full of anticipation, every mile drawing them closer to what was left.

Visaena's breath caught in her throat at the sight that greeted them. The grand sight of Celestria had crumbled into ruins, devastation had ravaged her old home. Eliana clung to her mother's arm, her eyes filled with sorrow. She had seen the destroyal of her planet in her dreams, though she didn't dare tell her mother.

"What happened here, Mother?" Visaena's gaze swept over the desolation, her heart aching at the sight. She turned to her eldest son. It was odd to think, he would have ruled this kingdom.

"War, my love. War and madness." As they stepped onto the scorched earth, a sense of foreboding settled over them like a shroud. It was then that they heard the beating of wings, three shadows soaring against the crimson sky. Eliana's breath caught as she pointed to the heavens.

"Look, mama! Dragons!" Visaena's heart skipped a beat at the sight, her mind racing with memories of a time long past. But there was no time for nostalgia. They had returned to a kingdom on the brink of oblivion, and they were the only hope it had left. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, her form bathed in the eerie glow of twilight. It was the sunken face of Otto Hightower. Visaena stepped protectively in front of her children.

"Daughter, how good it is to see you." He spoke calmly to his daughter. She knew he didn't care to see her or her children. He only cared for the hope that she was here to save the last living Celestrians.

"Father, I've come to take my throne." He eyed her carefully, a scheming look on his old face. Visaena knew she couldn't trust him. She never did, even in her youth. But she also knew to rebuild Celestria successfully, she needed his counsel. And so that's what she did. She rebuilt her home, to what it should've been under her reign. She ruled with her children at her side for years. She would periodically visit her cousin and ex-guard on earth throughout the decades. Each time brought new adventures. She even helped found SHIELD, alongside Rhaenys, Peggy Carter, and Howard Stark. It did bring grief to the queen's heart every time she visited, memories of her late love flashing back to her.

Once Jace reached eighteen, He became king of Celestria, which meant more freedom for Visaena to visit Earth and her friends. But still, she had to be there for her son, advising him and showing him the ways of a Celestrian King. Over the years Elia became more closed off. Preferring time with her insects, than with people. Visaena enjoyed this new routine until one call changed her life once more.
