~Chapter 18~

Three Days Later. . .

Tommy found himself once again surrounded by darkness, unable to speak or move like how these usual dreams went. This time though, he heard sniffles as if someone was crying. Tommy only listened, wondering if this was all he’d dream of for the night. Being in a big black nothingness, unable to speak or move, listening to someone cry. That was, until whoever was crying began to speak.

“I’m sorry.” Simple words, yet they still made Tommy’s heart jump. “Even if I had my reasons for abandoning you and Wilbur like I did and for how long I did, I don’t know if I told you why if you will ever forgive me, and if I’m honest I don’t blame you if you don’t… but I’m sorry.” silence filled the room for a long time, if there wasn’t still the indication of crying he would have thought that whoever it was was gone. “I wonder what it would have been like If I had been there, able to raise you and Wilbur properly. Maybe then your brother wouldn’t have seemed so lost when I first saw him.” Tommy, still confused, has put together that this was Phil talking. Was it always Phil? And if so, who was the second voice? “Gods above I wish I hadn’t killed him, I shouldn’t have killed him.” His words were tired whispers as if he’s said them so many times that it began to hurt to hear them leave his lips. “Please, please wake up. I can’t lose another son.” The words made even Tommy choke up, a pit in his stomach growing as he listened to the man. This was one of the few times he wished he could actually talk to Philza.

A door could be heard being open, the sniffles being silenced shortly after. Footsteps indicated someone entering, probably the second unknown voice. “Dad…” Ah, it was Technoblade. It wasn’t long before the father began to speak again, this time his voice sounding cold and angry.

“I plan to hunt down Dream and kill him once and for all.” Wait did he say Dream? But he is dead. He had killed him. He saw the life drain out of his eyes and felt the satisfaction as he realized he finally killed the bastard that had brought so much pain to him. Why was Phizla speaking as if he was still alive?  Tommy wanted to scream what did he mean, why he thought Dream was alive, but like always no noise escaped his lips as he tried to will himself to move. And like always everything went quiet, indicating he was once again waking up.w

Tommy was shaken awake, Wilbur calling out his name with a worried tone. “Tommy?” Tommy sat up, tired eyes staring at the wall across from him before looking at the concerned Wilbur. “Tommy? Are you ok?”

“I am…” His voice was distant, eyes cloudy as he tried to make sense of the weird dream. They were recurring, all different but so familiar as well. Why did he dream of a place where Philza cared about him? “Just a weird dream.” He tried to explain.

“I thought you were having a nightmare.” The brunette chuckled. The avian raised a brow, looking towards the other with curious eyes. “Well, I could hear you from my room, screaming ‘What do you mean?’ and ‘Why can’t anyone hear me?’. When I got into the room you were flailing around as if you were fighting something off, really scared me honestly.” Tommy looked down towards his lap where his hands layed, shaking. How hadn’t he noticed they were shaking until now? “Are you sure you’re ok?” Tommy whipped his head up, eyes blinking before quickly nodding.

“Y-Yes, like I said. Just a weird dream.” Tommy forced a smile as he spoke, hoping to make the older brother believe him. Wilbur still looked skeptical, a frown forming on his face.

“If you say so.” A pause. “But if you need to talk, I’m here, ok?” Tommy nodded, expression turning warm.

“Yes, I know.” Wilbur stood up, sighing as he made his way to the door. He stopped before he left, looking behind himself with a small smile.

“Try and get some more sleep, today is a big day after all.” Tommy smiled himself.

“Yeah, I will.” With that the brunette finally left the room, closing the door behind himself. Tommy flopped back down onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling with unsure eyes. Eventually, he closed them trying to will himself to go back to sleep. He had a feeling today would be a long day.

Tommy sat on the edge of the finally finished obsidian build, dawn drawing closer as he stared out towards the sleeping country that was L’manburg. The street lights were the only thing lighting up the country, all the lights in the houses off and the people waiting for the dawn to arrive to begin the day. The wolves were waiting where Tommy had left them, patiently waiting for the avian to come back. The teen couldn’t believe that he’d be destroying L’manburg, the same place he had fought for when he first joined this hellish server. He had thought this country was home, fighting for it tooth and nail, even giving up his precious discs for it. He didn’t even care about those anymore, just another thing that would be left in Tommy’s past forever lost. L’manburg was the beginning of it all, and Tommy would make sure he’d be the one to end it. Techno and Phil were still working on the machine, doing last-minute checks before they began their attack. With this free time, Tommy decided to take in L’manburg one last time.

Tommy looked behind him as he heard someone walking towards him, seeing Wilbur coming up to his side. He looked just a solum and blank as he did as he looked down towards the country that had started. “Once this is over we’ll get the hell out of here.” Wilbur calmly said, brown eyes glancing toward the blond. “I already found a quiet server we can transfer to after this, I think you’ll really like it.” Wilbur smiled, his gaze once again falling on the country they were about to destroy. Tommy looked back himself, taking in the peace that they were witnessing before the chaos began. “It’s a small server full of people just looking for peace, people from servers just like us.”

“It does sound nice.” Tommy whispered out, a smile forming on his face. Wilbur ruffled his hair before leaving the boy alone again. Tommy only stared at the country below him, fists tightening as the sun started peeking over the horizon. With a shaky breath, the teen knew it was time to get back to the wolves and wait for the TNT to begin falling.

Tommy sat petting Dove, who was looking up at the contraption that floated proudly in the distance. It was exciting knowing that the end of L’manburg was so close, yet Tommy couldn’t stop thinking of the few good memories he had of this place. Even if they were small, they still brought a needed smile to his face. It was for the best that this country was destroyed, even if that did mean that the people of this server hated him.

It would be worth it in his eyes. He looked down at his faithful wolf, Dove’s eyes looking towards his own, tongue lolling out of its mouth and tail wagging. He patted its head, smiling still before letting out a needed sigh. “It's time, are you excited?” As if it understood him, Dove barked, tail seeming to wag faster in response. He chuckled at the action.

The teen eventually turned towards the country as a loud boom was heard, the morning sky filling with ash and screams erupting from the soon-to-be-destroyed country. Tommy stood from his seat, the other wolves following the blond's example. With a flick of his wrist, an axe appearing in his palm. “Okay, let's go.” Tommy ran forwards, watching as some of the dogs ran in front of him.

Tommy saw the TNT drop, the echoes of explosions filling the air as the country blew up around him. Soldiers ran looking to the sky, some already being attacked by Tommy’s many dogs. Techno could be seen in the distance, heaving his own axe around and flinging soldiers every which was as if it was childs play. Tommy looked up, Wilbur and Philza staring down at the chaos below with bows in hand ready to shoot people down. It didn’t take long before people started trying to build up, Wilbur and Philza easily taking them out.

The teen looked at the battlefield before him, seeing some soldiers nearing him. He braced for attack and began to battle himself, the few wolves that stuck by him helping the avian take down those to dared to try and take him down. It didn’t take long for a familiar face to show up, Quackity staring at Tommy in disbelief before reality hit the other avian full force. Quickly the raven turned angry, sword in hand tightening before he charged at the teen.

Tommy was ready though, axe swinging towards the other swiftly. It hit Quackity square in the shoulder, Quackity squawking in surprise before jumping away holding his wound. Quickly the dogs attacked the other, making the male have to try and fight them off as well. As Tommy inched closer, eyes fixed on the other, the raven only seemed to become scared, black eyes widening at the younger as he heaved for breath, gripping at his profusely bleeding wound. “Why?” Is all he had said, Tommy lifting his axe up with unforgiving eyes.

“I’m done with being used and thrown away, I’m done letting people get away with fucking me over without consequences!” Tommy lifted his axe, swinging towards the male's leg. It hit, Quackity screaming out as he fell to the ground, sword forgotten as he stared up at the other. “L’manburg has to go. I’m destroying L’manburg whether you like it or not.” The avian stared up petrified, eyes wide and golden wings outstretched to try and make the man seem bigger than he actually was.

“Tommy, wait, please! Think about what you’re doing right now!” The blond struck down on the other again, this time lodging the axe into the poor man's chest, a blood-curdling scream leaving his lips.

“I’ve thought long and hard about what I’m doing! I’ve stayed up night after night to make sure this plan was foolproof! I will not have my plan destroyed because of the likes of you!” Quackity looked at the teen with pleading eyes, tears glazing over and spilling at the edges.

“Please, don’t kill me. We’re friends Tommy, Tommy I promise I’m your friend.” He paused, angry eyes slightly glazing over at the man's words. He felt numb, the same words echoing in his ears.

We’re friends Tommy, we don’t treat our friends like this now do we? Now put your items in the hole or I’ll make you. Tommy felt anger and sadness fill him, the scars on his back aching at the memory that forced its way into his head. Dream no longer held any control over him, he wasn’t blind to the abuse and destruction that Dream had inflicted on the teen, watching with satisfaction as Tommy broke before him.

“I’m not dumb, I know you don’t mean that.” At the confusion that showed on the man’s face, Tommy’s anger only grew tenfold, the boy lifting his leg and stomping on the blade, watching more blood spurt out of the wound as it sunk deeper into the man’s body. Quackity never stopped screaming, the avian sobbing from the pain before finally going quiet. Tommy heaved over him, eyes wide and crazed as he looked over the corpse stuck to the end of his axe. With the same foot, he stomped on the man's head, tugging his axe out of the man's body and listening to the sickening sound that escaped as it finally came loose.

Tommy stepped over the bleeding body, walking further into the battle before him, the scene becoming a blur as he took out one after the other with his powerful axe, his wolves attacking anyone they deemed too close to their owner. Above Wilbur and Philza sat, arrows reigning down on those foolish enough to try and climb up to them, and in the distance, he could hear the screams of his older brother's victims. As he moved further and further into the battle he noticed more and more damage from the constant falling of the TNT, the explosives eating into the ground, and beginning to make huge holes where a country used to stand tall. Taking more and more people down it didn’t take long until the battlefield was almost barren, the screams sounding distant and the sliders few. The holes only grew in size, parts of the country falling without the need of TNT and collapsing in on itself as if it had accepted its defeat.

Tommy slashed another soldier, watching the man fall to the ground before taking careful steps on the shaking ground below him. It was going to collapse soon, Tommy could feel it in his shaking bones and the way the other soldiers became more cautious by the minute. The blond felt himself smiling, feeling accomplished as he looked at the chaos before him. Soon he was brought out of his daze as someone began to yell his name, making the man look behind himself and toward a sad and scared Tubbo.

He looked the same as when Tommy had left, his suit on and for one, not the cut and clean that it usually was. Instead it was dirty with wrinkles everywhere and even ripped in some areas. Somehow the man had lost the coated part of his suit, now only wearing his simple white button-up with a loose tie and his trashed dress pants. Other than his clothes he still looked the same, the horrid scar still covering half of his horrified face and one good eyes still the grassy green they always have been.

Tommy turned to face the man, face void of emotion as he looked at his best friend. This was the person that betrayed him, the person that let Dream inflict so much pain onto him. He never even visited him, leaving him to fend for himself. Did he even miss him? Did he think of him after he exiled him? He hated the fact he wanted to hug the boy, seeing that fearful look turn into sadness and regret. The goat hybrid took uneasy steps forward, a reassuring smile on his face as if he was trying to calm down an angry bear. It hurt that he in return wanted to hug the man, cry and say how sorry he was for being so wreckless, wanted to tell the man he wanted his best friend back. Tommy’s fists tightened, forcing himself to lose those weak feelings as his face quickly expressed one emotion. Anger. Tubbo’s feet stopped, his slowly turning relieved look once again becoming filled with worry and fear.

“Tommy?” The avian ran forwards, axe out and ready to take a slash at the teen before him. Tubbo was quick to act, summoning his own sword to block the upcoming attack. He did so barely, making Tommy angry as he shoved away from the other. The blond quickly made moves for another attack, making the goat hybrids eyes bulged wide as he quickly got ready, sword in front of him in a defensive stance. “Tommy wait-” Tommy did no such thing, once again launching forwards and this time aiming for the boy's side. Tubbo gasped in fear, dodging quickly before getting his own hit in. Tommy backed away, looking towards his arm to see a small bleeding wound. It wasn’t fatal, but it still stung. Tommy looked towards the other teen, blue eyes cold. Tubbo still looked terrified, confused even, as he stared at the other. “Tommy?” He grits his teeth in response before deciding to answer the other.

“What.” His voice was cold, complimenting the expression he held on his face. Tubbo was still on alert, staring at the other with careful eyes.

“Why are you doing this?” His voice shook, his one good eye looking terrified as he stared at the other. Tommy’s brows furrowed, confused about what the other meant.

“What do you mean?”

“Why- why are you destroying our home?” Tubbo’s one eye looked pleadingly towards him, both his eyes seeming to be glossy with unshed tears.

“This isn’t my home.” Tubbo blinked, seeming to be stunned by the boy's answer. “It never was, and it never will be. Especially with this place finally being destroyed.” Tubbo looked ready to try and reason with the other teen, eyes turning frantic as realization hit him.

“But-” Tommy swung his axe towards the other, making the other flinch back in response. He pointed his powerful weapon at the brunette, eyes turning from cold to pure anger.

“DON’T TRY AND REASON WITH ME! IT WON’T WORK! I’M DONE WITH PEOPLE ACTING LIKE I DON’T HAVE A FUCKING BRAIN OR SOME SHIT AND TRY AND TALK ME OUT OF WHAT I WANT! LIKE THEY NEED TO TEACH ME RIGHT FROM WRONG OR SOME SHIT I WANT THIS AND I KNOW I’M DOING THE RIGHT THING BY BLOWING THIS SHITHOLE TO KINGDOM COME AND NOTHING YOU SAY WILL CHANGE THAT!” Tommy screamed out, Tubbo looking even more terrified than before. Tommy heaved for breath, ignoring all the yelling and fighting around them, even the quickly growing shake in the ground below them. It didn’t take long for Tubbo to start letting silent tears leave his eyes, hands shaking even if he still was in a defensive stance before the angry male.

“What happened to you?” Tubbo choked out. It only angered Tommy more, the avian nearing the other in quick steps, freaking the other boy out who was quick to try and back away from the other, tripping over his feet and falling to the ground below them. He stared up at Tommy with scared eyes, Tommy’s face quickly wiping away any emotions he had shown beforehand.

“Exile happened, that hellhole made me open my fucking eyes.” Tubbo hiccuped, sniffling ash e tried to wipe away his blinding tears. “It’s pathetic seeing you like this, you know? What happened to you, huh? What happened to that tough act you were portraying when you threw the fuck out? What happened dearest president? Did someone hurt you?” With the last sentence, his voice was venom, blue eyes staring at the teen below him with terrifying calmness.

“I’m sorry.” The words made Tommy pause, confusing him as he blinked at the cowering boy.

“What?” Tubbo began to cry more, seeming to be hurt for some reason. After a few silent minutes, the boy began to speak again.

“I shouldn’t have sent you away, I-I… I’m sorry Tommy. You suffered, I don’t know what exactly h-happened but I know it can’t be good.” Tubbo began, looking at the other with sad eyes. “I mean… what happened to your wings? Why do you have more scars then you left with?... What happened to my happy, always positive-thinking, best friend?” The last bit was quiet, yet Tommy heard it. And for whatever reason, he felt his heart break and twist at the boy's words. “You got hurt, and I wasn’t there for you. You were hurting and I wasn’t there to help you.” Tommy felt his axe leave his hand, tears slowly gathering in the corners of his eyes.

“You left me with Dream.” Tubbo looked down at that, his fingers gripping at the grass as if to keep himself from sobbing out. “He hurt me, Tubbo. He tortured me, hurt me, taunted me, and watched me bleed out not caring if I lived. He blew up my progress and forced me to start from scratch every day… He took my wings. I can’t fly now, because he took my wings. You let he do that to me. You left him hurt me and now I’ll never be the same.” Tubbo launched forwards, sobs finally leaving his throat as he hugged the blond boy in a tight embrace. Tommy was stunned, standing as still as a statue and staring ahead as he listened to the other cry.

“I’m sorry Tommy! I didn’t know that that was happening to you! I should have came and seen you in exile, I shouldn’t have sent you away in the first place!” He cried out, somehow his grip on the other growing stranger. “I’m never leaving your side again, I’m never sending you away again. I’m sorry Tommy, I’m so sorry!”  Slowly the blond hugged the smaller man, letting his own unshed tears escape his eyes. He buried his face in the goat hybrids unruly hair, hugging his best friend closer as he cried. He’s sorry. Slowly the two best friends pulled away, both wiping away their tears as they collected themselves. Tommy looked towards his still sad friend, tears still trickling down his face but slower than when they had begun. The teen let a shaky sigh leave his lips, a soft genuine smile forming on his lips.

“I forgive you.” Tubbo paused for a moment, slowly his lips also quirking up into a bright happy smile. It seemed that Tubo was about to respond to Tommy’s easy phrase before his expression turned into horror. Tommy felt the ground below him give way, crackling and dropping from all the explosions around them. It was collapsing in on itself. Around them the ground was cracking away, bits and pieces of the land falling to the depths below. Tommy turned pale, watching as Tubbo seemed to be swallowed whole by the ground as the ground gave way below him. Tommy, shocked and terrified, ran to the edge that tubbo fell off of, jumping off and towards the descending goat hybrid. Tommy was free falling, terrified blue eyes locking with Tubbo’s own, but he almost looked content, a soft smile on his scarred face. Tommy flung his hand out, fingers extending for tubbo’s own hand to reach for his.

Tears that he thought had ended flowed out of his blue eyes once again, watching as Tubbo reached out for the boy as well. Their hands gripped together, Tommy pulling the boy closer and into his chest, hugging him close as their positions in the air changed, this time Tommy falling with his hack to the nearing bedrock below them. The wind around them whistled dangerously, Tommy holding onto his best friend tight as he stared up at the slowly fading light that was the surface. He couldn’t throw an ender pearl now, they wouldn’t make it. Tommy cried, trying to shield the smaller teen from the incoming impact, even though logically he knew that they both were going to die. His best friend and he were going to die and there was nothing that the wingless avian could do. A heart-shattering sob left Tommy, hating how useless he felt in this situation.

He would never get to start over, leave with his newly revived brother and father figure, have a small farm and a few pets on some calm and peaceful server, and live the rest of his days without war and battle. He’d never get to try and fix his bond with Techno and Philza, fishing or training with the two like he was planning to do with Technoblade and inviting the blond along. He had wanted to try and give the man a second chance. He’d never get to sit in silence with Tubbo taking in the peace together or go on adventures ever again. He had so much he wanted to do still, had so much to do and yet his time would end in a dark hole trying to protect his best friend in the false hope that the goat hybrid would live.

Tommy cried, and as pain filled his body from hitting the bedrock below him everything was silent and dark…

And he woke up.
