Taehyung sighs as he stands in the waiting room, pleading with the receptionist at the front office.
"Please, I just need to talk to her for a few minutes." He states. The receptionist merely rolls her eyes before sighing.
"I've already told you about four times now. There's no visitors allowed right now." The receptionist states. He sighs before stuffing his hands into his pockets.
"Please, ma'am. It should be very fast. I just need to apologize." He states.
"Taehyung?" he hears a soft voice coming from the corridor. "Is that you?"
"Yes, it's me." he states as he looks over and sees his ex-girlfriend. She tilts her head to the side as she sees him before letting out a soft sigh.
"Ah, so you're the reason they paged my room and told me to tell you to leave." She says before arching an eyebrow. He scratches the back of his neck as he lets out an awkward laugh.
"Oh, yes. My bad." He states before he watches as she places her hands onto the wheels of her wheelchair. She rolls her way over to the receptionist and looks over at her.
"I know there's no visitors allowed right now but I have a feeling that this is an emergency." She states while looking at the receptionist. "I rarely ever get any visitors anyway, I promise we won't cause a ruckus." The receptionist merely rolls her eyes before speaking.
"Alright, fine. You've got fifteen minutes and then I'm calling security to throw him out." She states.
"Thank you." His ex-girlfriend bows her head politely to the receptionist. Taehyung does the same before following behind her as she rolls her chair towards her room. She then enters her room and rolls her chair directly beside her bed. She then reaches onto her bedside table and grabs her glass of water to take a drink. She then lets out a sigh of relief before looking over at Taehyung. "So, what brings you here?"
Taehyung awkwardly looks around the room before shrugging his shoulders.
"I was here the other day dropping a friend off for her pregnancy exams and I saw you in the lobby." He states.
"And?"
"I just wanted to... see how you were doing." He states. She looks over at him before tilting her head to the side.
"This has to do with that girl that you were with in the lobby, doesn't it?" she questions. He widens his eyes for a second.
"Wh-what?" he questions.
"I'm not stupid, Taehyung." She states before setting her water glass back onto the bedside table. "The girl who you were sitting next to who asked you to buy her snacks. I wheeled past you before you went to get snacks."
"What would visiting you have to do with her?" he questions as he stares over at her. She lets out a sarcastic laugh before immediately shaking her head.
"You haven't seen me in months." She responds. "You expect me to think you just woke up one morning months later and said 'you know what? I haven't seen my ex in a while, let me go visit her?' I know that you're here because she probably found out about what happened. There's no other reason you'd actually want to come see me."
"The one time I did visit you, your parents threw me out. I was trying to apologize the last time I came here but they threw me out before I could even get a chance to." He argues.
"Because they thought you were a bad influence. They know that you didn't even give me my helmet before we drove that night." She argues. "They always told me you'd never own up to what you did, they were so right."
Taehyung takes a deep breath before closing his eyes. He then looks over at her.
"Look, I'm here to apologize but you have to admit, I'm not your parent." He states. "Whenever you would get on my bike, you knew that the bike always had your helmet sitting right on your chair. It's not my job to hand it to you like a parent would to a child. You can grab it yourself, you know." He states.
"That's not an apology." She responds bitterly while narrowing her eyes up at him. "You know damn well that we were already having problems at that time. You didn't give me the helmet because you didn't care whether or not I got hurt."
"That's not true at all." He says, speaking more loudly as he looks over at her. "No matter whatever problems we had going on at the time, I would never wish any harm on you. You know damn well that I was in love with you and wanted to make things work even after the accident." He responds.
"Then why didn't you visit me?"
"Because," he covers his eyes for a second as he takes a deep breath to prevent himself from crying. "Do you know how hard it is to see someone you loved in a condition like this? Knowing that I'm the reason you're hurt right now? I couldn't bring myself to see you without leaving and blaming myself for it every single day."
She merely stares at him, blinking as she listens to him speaking.
"I know that if I had given you a helmet, maybe you wouldn't be paralyzed right now." He states. "And I take full responsibility for it. However, I've never been rear-ended before. I didn't even know that that car was coming up behind us. If I did, I would've moved to the side or between other cars so that he wouldn't hit us... you know that, right?"
Biting onto her lower lip, she nods her head.
"I know." She says quietly. She then sighs before looking down at her hands, twiddling her fingers together to avoid eye contact with Taehyung, already knowing that he's tearing up. "She's very pretty, by the way, she reminds me of how pretty I was... you know, before this." She gestures towards her legs.
Taehyung merely looks over at her before shaking his head.
"You know, she's the one who suggested I should make amends with you." He states. "She's the person who told me that maybe apologizing and talking it out with you would make things right."
"Make what things right?" she questions. He shrugs.
"My mental health." He responds. "I haven't been the same since the accident, you know. I even rejected her when she first admitted she liked me even though I felt the same way. I didn't want to hurt her the same way I did to you."
"Huh..." she states before gulping for a second. "Taehyung, I know my parents kept blaming you for what happened... but I never blamed you. That was all them, you know that, right?" Taehyung looks over at her, eyes glazed over with tears that he's trying to hold in.
"You didn't?" He questions. She shakes her head in response to his question.
"Just because my parents kept saying horrible things doesn't meant that I agreed." She states. "Why do you think we sued the driver of the car behind us and not you? I told them it wasn't your fault. How would you know he was going to keep moving forward?"
"Thank you." He responds. She lets out a soft laugh as she speaks.
"For what?"
"For letting me talk to you." He states. She merely grins for a few seconds before it begins to get awkwardly quiet. Taehyung glances around the room and sighs before pressing his lips together. "So, how has the physical therapy been?" he questions. She shrugs her shoulders.
"I actually can walk a little bit. Only small distances, but it's a start for me." she states. He nods his head and smiles softly at her.
"I'm glad to hear that." He states. It then gets quiet again before the receptionist comes in.
"You kids have five more minutes and then you're getting kicked out." She says while pointing towards Taehyung. He nods his head.
"Yes, ma'am. I'm almost done." He states. The receptionist then leaves the room. "I'm sorry, though. For everything that happened."
"Thank you for apologizing and visiting me, Taehyung." She states. "You should get going though. You don't want your girlfriend to get the wrong idea." He then glances at the clock.
"I'm sure she doesn't mind me coming to visit you. Like I said, she encouraged me to try to find a way to cope with what happened."
"Was talking with me a good way to cope?" she questions.
"Well, yeah. Weirdly enough, getting a chance to actually apologize helped." He states. She nods her head.
"Can you tell her I said 'thank you' if you get a chance?" she questions.
"Why would you want to thank her?"
"She seems to be a much better girlfriend than I ever was to you. The fact that she's trusting enough to let you come see me without barging in or needing to be in the room... I give her props for that." She states before shrugging her shoulders. "Also, her encouraging you to come see me, not getting jealous or worrying about it. That's very sweet of her to want you to forgive yourself for what happened."
Taehyung merely nods his head, unsure of what to say. A small smile forms on his face as he thinks about you.
"Yeah... I think she's a good fit for me." he states. She grows quiet for a few seconds before he speaks up again. "Sorry, am I making it awkward by talking about her?" she shakes her head before laughing softly.
"I brought her up." She states. "Plus I'm seeing someone new now."
"Oh! That's great." He states while smiling. "Tell me a little about him." She laughs softly before looking up at the clock.
"I would but you probably have to get out of here. I don't want them to have to throw you out, then I'd feel bad." She smiles.
"Oh, yeah. You're right." He states. He then bows politely at her. "Thank you again. For giving me a chance to talk to you despite not visiting for a few months."
"Thank you for coming to see me." she states before he starts to walk towards the door to leave. "Taehyung?" she questions, stopping him in his tracks.
"Yeah?"
"I'll tell you more about my boyfriend the next time you visit." She states. "If you want to visit again, that is." He pauses as he thinks about it for a second before nodding his head.
"I do." He states. "But maybe I should bring Y/N next time, to introduce you two?"
"I'd love to meet her." She states while smiling. "It'd be nice to have a new friend."
"Alright, it's settled then. I'll bring her with me next time." He then waves goodbye before exiting her room. "I'll call next time instead of barging in too."
"Sounds good. See you next time, Taehyung."
He walks out of the room before reaching into his pocket for his phone. He then dials a phone number.
"Hello?" the person on the other side of the line.
"Hi, baby." He greets you. "I had to take care of something important, I'll tell you about it when I see you. I'm on my way to the restaurant right now. You're all still at the restaurant, right?"
"Yes, we're still here. We actually just got here a few minutes ago. We're still deciding what to eat."
"Ah, sweet. So I haven't missed anything?"
"Nope." You say on the other side of the line. "Seulgi's starving now, though. So, you might want to hurry." You say while laughing.
"Okay, baby. I'll be there in ten." He says.
"Sounds good."
"I love you." He states.
"I love you too." He can hear the smile on your face as you say it back. He then takes a deep breath and smiles before making his way towards the parking lot.
*****
We only have one chapter left after this one.
I can't believe this story is almost finished. This is literally my fifth story on this app/website and I can't believe even after writing that many, I STILL manage to have more ideas in my head.
I started writing the next story that I'll be publishing but I'm not finished writing enough to where I'd be able to start posting soon. I probably have to take a few weeks in between the ending of this story and the new one because I hate publishing without a lot of chapters written. I like having multiple chapters written so that I can take my time writing my stories and make sure the plots make sense and everything is as cohesive as possible.
I'm going to try writing the next few weeks but bare with me as the past few weeks have been very rough on me and my mental health is slightly worse than it normally is.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support me. To those of you who have supported me since Voyeurism, I notice and I recognize usernames all the time and I'm always happy to see those of you. Thank you to everyone who has supported me through Chef's Kiss, Love on the Pole, and Airplane Pt. 3 as well. I appreciate and love all of you.
I purple you.
Kim 💜
