"Are you nervous?" you ask while looking over at Taehyung. He raises his eyebrows as he looks over at you. He then gently smiles as he shrugs a shoulder.
"Eh, I've already talked to your mother a little bit... I'm more nervous about your father if I'm being honest." He says before scratching the back of his head. You stare up at him and watch him gulp for a second before shaking his head. "But that's okay, most of the time parents love me."
"Most of the time?" you question. His smile slightly drops before his lips straighten into a flat line. He then turns to you and nods.
"Yeah... there was one pair of parents who hated my guts." He says before taking a deep breath. "I'm sure you can tell whose set of parents that was."
Ah, the ex-girlfriend who didn't wear a helmet and ended up getting injured on his motorcycle.
You stare up at him and nod your head softly before looking away from him and down at the concrete of the sidewalk directly in front of the restaurant. He notices the change in your demeanor as you stare down at the ground.
He then places a comforting hand on your lower back before stepping a little closer to you.
You begin thinking about how often Taehyung must blame himself for what happened despite him always warning that girl to wear a helmet.
Her parents surely have had quite the choice of words for Taehyung once the incident happened. You're sure that he's been cussed out by his parents. You wouldn't be surprised if Taehyung told you that one of her parents had hit him either.
You wonder how many sleepless nights Taehyung has had blaming himself for this when all of it was out of his control.
"Hey." You hear his deep voice coming out as smooth as velvet. It causes you to look up at him as he stares down at you with a concerned look on his face. "Don't worry about it, okay? I know what you're thinking. That was a one-time thing. Every other set of parents of the women I've dated have loved me, okay?" You nod your head before gulping.
"You don't still blame yourself for what happened with her... do you?" He's now the one silent, avoiding eye contact for a second before he shrugs his shoulders.
"Kinda hard not to do that, don't you think?" You nod your head. "I do but I'm learning to live with it."
You stare up at him before reaching down and removing his hand from your lower back. As you do this, he furrows his eyebrows, assuming you didn't want him to touch you.
However, instead of removing his hand from you entirely, you hold his hand in yours gently and slowly intertwine your fingers before looking back to the street. You examine the cars and search for your parents' car. He stares down at your hands for a second before softly smiling and gently squeezing yours.
You see their car approaching and use your opposing hand to wave at them. Your mother gets out of the passenger seat as your father continues driving, most likely going to find a place to park. She steps towards you, no expression on her face for a second before she looks down at your hand in Taehyung's. She then gently grins before looking up at Taehyung.
"Hello." She greets.
"Hi, Mrs. Y/L/N." he says while smiling over at your mother. "It's very nice to meet you." He bows his head politely to your mother, causing her to arch an eyebrow, her grin turning into a smile as she turns to you. She gives you the look that she always does when she's impressed with someone. This causes you to smile.
"You as well... Taehyung, correct?" she says.
"Yes, ma'am." He says before licking his lips. He then speaks again. "I want to apologize again for not reminding Y/N to check in with you and let you know that she was staying over at my place. That was very irresponsible of me and I will make sure that situation never happens again."
"Oh, that wasn't irresponsible of you, dear." She says before arching her eyebrow and turning to you. "That was irresponsible of you."
"I'm sorry. I fell asleep before I could get a chance to text or call." You immediately respond. "It won't happen again." She nods her head before glancing down at her hands as she removes the gloves from her hands.
"Shall we go inside and get our table?" She questions.
"Oh, yes, of course. I was going to wait for your husband to make sure he gets in safely." Taehyung states. She tilts her head to the side as she smiles.
"Ah, he can handle himself." She states before gesturing towards the restaurant. He nods his head and steps aside, signaling for you and your mother to walk in first. She gives you a side glance of approval which causes you to smile softly.
He then holds the door open for the both of you before letting both of you choose your seats before he sits down next to you as your mother sits down across from you.
As you all order, your father steps into the restaurant and joins.
It's quiet for a few seconds before Taehyung speaks up.
"Mr. Y/L/N, I would like to apologize to you as well for worrying you. I should have reminded Y/N to call you and inform you that she was at my home. I'm very sorry, it was irresponsible of me and I will never let anything of the sort happen again." Taehyung sincerely states. Your father eyes you before eyeing him.
You can't tell whether it's a good expression or a bad one.
This causes you to gulp as you look down at your plate that remains clean due to the food not being out yet.
"Just don't let it happen again." He states.
"Yes, of cou-" Taehyung states.
"Not you, young man. My daughter's actions are not something for you to apologize for." He grins at Taehyung. "I'm talking to you." Your father says while eyeing you. You nod your head.
"Won't happen again, Dad." You say while biting your lower lip. Your father nods once before the food arrives and the waiter places the steaming plates in front of all of you. Your mouth waters at the sight of the food and you lick your lips before you glance over at Taehyung.
He makes eye contact with you and smiles a reassuring smile.
"So, Mr. and Mrs. Y/L/N, I would like to formally introduce myself and let you know a few things about me." He starts before speaking again. "My name is Kim Taehyung, I am 26 years old. I work in advertising, and I have two younger siblings. I grew up in Daegu and my father currently owns a farm there."
Your parents eye each other, most likely shocked that Taehyung has the confidence to introduce himself so formally to them.
"Daegu, huh?" your father questions. Taehyung nods his head before taking a bite of his food. You also begin eating while this conversation starts. "But you live here?" Taehyung nods his head.
"Yes, sir. I have an apartment with my best friend at the moment. I will be returning to Daegu for the holidays soon to see my family, though." He says before taking another bite of his food.
"Ah, that's nice. How long do you typically stay in Daegu during the holidays?" your mother now asks.
"Usually until New Years is over." He says. "I typically don't take off from work too much during the year. I tend to save my vacation time for the holidays." You look over at him as you make a mental note of this.
This means he'll be gone for a little bit the coming weeks.
"That's very nice." Your father states.
"So, whenever you go home, do you help around the farm?" your mother asks.
"Oh yes, growing up I loved helping out on the farm and I still do." He states. "It's very relaxing being on a farm and seeing your hard work grow into something so healthy and beneficial."
"That's very nice. You seem like a very well-behaved man." Your father states. Taehyung smiles as he says this.
"You know, Dad, something I think you'd have in common with Taehyung is his love for older music." you say once you finish chewing the food in your mouth. "Taehyung loves Frank Sinatra. He even has an old record player at his apartment."
Your father's eyes light up.
"Oh, really?" Taehyung nods his head. "Why do you like older music, Taehyung?"
"The lyrics back then are more respectful, the music tends to be a little calmer, and I prefer the voices of the singers back then. Their deep voices resemble mine." Taehyung responds while smiling.
Your father nods his head.
You can't help but smile because of how well this lunch is going.
You also can't help but mentally laugh at the reasoning.
While dating Taehyung, you've gotten to know his diversity with music. Yes, he does love old music. However, he also loves modern-day rap music.
He's shown you his playlists on his phone and he does have some rappers who do rap a few vulgar things here and there in his playlist.
"Well, I do have a record collection. Please let me know if you would like to borrow them."
"Are you sure?" Taehyung asks. Your father nods. "Well, thank you, sir." He responds with his boxy smile.
"So, where did you meet my daughter?" Your mother asks.
You look over at her and give her a look. She ignores your stare and looks at Taehyung.
"Ah, we actually met in a weird coincidence." He states before taking a bite of his food and chewing. Once he finishes and swallows his food, he then speaks up again. "I was going out to eat at a restaurant with my group of friends and I saw Y/N on a date with a guy."
"Oh, really?" your mother eyes you. You glare at her and shake your head.
"Yes. I was at the front of the restaurant, waiting for the host or hostess to tell me where my friends were at because I was running a little late. Then, I overheard the conversation that Y/N and her date were having. He was telling her a ridiculous story that was very inappropriate to be telling a lady and it was very disrespectful. I could also see that Y/N was clearly uncomfortable so I went up to their table and made an excuse so Y/N could easily get out of the date without putting herself at risk of him harming her." He says.
"So, you defended my daughter without even knowing who she was yet?" your mother asks. He nods his head.
"I have a younger sister and if she were ever on a date similar to that, I would hope that a kind citizen would help her get out of it safely." He genuinely answers.
Your father nods his head.
"And not to mention, this happened a few times after that." You speak up, causing your parents to look at you. "During most of the bad dates I was on where the guy was being disrespectful or just was a weirdo, Taehyung would always be at the right place at the right time and would come to the rescue." You say while smiling over at him.
"Well, that's very kind of you, Taehyung." Your mother says while smiling before taking another bite of her food.
You and Taehyung make eye contact with one another once more before smiling at each other. He gives you a quick wink before going back to eating his food, leaving you smiling as you also take another bite of your food.
