"So, where is the bad date?" Taehyung questions as he steps towards the area where you're standing. You look over at him and smile softly before pointing towards the direction of the building you were previously in. He looks over there before furrowing his eyebrows. "Ah, so you already got away from him?" he questions. You make a face of uncertainty before nodding.
"I guess you could say that?" you say in a questioning tone, causing Taehyung to furrow his eyebrows.
"What do you mean?"
"This one wasn't a bad date per se." you state before glancing down at the ground. He continues to stare over at you, silently encouraging you to continue explaining. "It was more of a rejection."
"Rejection?" he questions quietly. You nod.
"Two of the past four bad dates you saw me on were setups by Seulgi and Sunmi." You say before scratching the back of your neck. "The other two were my own doing."
"The two I met the other day." He states, causing you to nod.
"Yeah, they set me up on a blind date and then on a round of speed dating and that's how I ended up in those situations." You state. "But this time, I decided to take things into my own hands and ask someone out. Low and behold, I'm here." You let out a soft laugh. He tilts his head to the side while staring over at you. After a few seconds, he steps back towards his motorcycle which is parked right behind him.
Your shoulders slump as you see him walking away.
Of course he's leaving. Why would he be here when you didn't even go on a bad date? He said to call during a bad date, not during a rejection.
You glance down at the ground again, ready to accept the fact that he's leaving.
When you're ready to turn around and go back to your class, you're taken aback by Taehyung holding his extra helmet in front of you. You furrow your eyebrows before looking at the helmet. Turning your attention to Taehyung's face, you see that he's urging you to take the helmet.
His eyes are sympathetic and soft as he stares at you, despite the rest of his face coming off as lacking emotion. You can tell he feels bad about what happened to you.
Without any words, you take the helmet from him. Placing it on your head, you immediately start adjusting the straps around your chin.
"C'mon." he says while nodding his head towards his motorcycle. You nod your head and follow him towards his bike. He gets onto it and you take one big step to straddle the bike yourself. You hesitate before placing your hands on his waist as he starts the engine.
You take a deep breath as you prepare for the speed.
He lifts his leg off the ground and begins balancing the bike as it moves forward. This causes you to tighten your grip on his waist for a few seconds. You lean forward against his back before looking to the side. You watch as the university buildings appear and disappear within seconds as you two speed out of there.
"Where are we going?" you immediately question loudly as he takes a turn out of the parking lot.
"You got rejected and had four bad dates so I'm going to take you to get some coffee." He answers. "You deserve at least one good date... even if it's with just a friend." He speaks loud enough so you can hear him over the sound of the rush of air.
You lean back away from him on the motorcycle as you look at the side of his face as he looks to the side for a second to change lanes. You smile softly as you stare over at him before leaning back against him.
After a few minutes of you two riding on his motorcycle, you make it to the coffee shop near your university.
He parks in a spot directly in front of it before starting to take his helmet off. You do the same and slowly get off of the bike first before he does. You gently hand him the helmet and he puts it in the tiny trunk of the back of it.
He gestures for you to follow him.
Arriving at the coffee shop, you both approach the counter together.
"Hello." Taehyung greets the barista. "I'll have a hot chocolate. What do you want to drink, Y/N?" he questions while looking at you. You look up at the menu before ordering for yourself.
"Anything else?" the barista questions. Taehyung looks over at you, silently asking if you want anything.
"No, I'm okay. Thank you." You tell him. Taehyung nods before deciding to order a warm cinnamon roll. After ordering this, you immediately reach into your pocket to grab your credit card before you look up and see Taehyung already paying. "Oh, wait, I'm the one who called you. Shouldn't I be paying?" you question.
Taehyung looks over at you and immediately lets out a soft laugh before shaking his head.
"You did call me but I'm the one who suggested this date." He responds. You watch as he gets his card back from the barista. You stare over at him, feeling bad about making him pay. He senses you staring at him and looks over at you before he gives you a small grin. "Don't make that face. You can cover the next one." He says smoothly. You nod your head before the two of you step aside so the next customer can order.
While you two wait for your order, you speak up.
"Sorry for calling you for that. I know you wanted me to call for a bad date but the humiliation that I just felt was something else." You state. "And I know I could've told Seulgi and Sunmi but they were in that same class I just ditched and knowing them, they'd confront him." Taehyung merely laughs before nodding his head.
"Nothing to apologize for." He states. "I told you to call if you needed me and you did."
"Order for Taehyung." You two glance over and see the barista placing the drinks and cinnamon roll on the counter. You grab the drinks while Taehyung gets the cinnamon roll.
He points towards a table and the two of you walk over there before sitting down together.
"So, what exactly made him reject you?" he questions while taking a sip of his hot chocolate.
"He already had a date." You state. He lifts his eyebrows.
"That's it?" he questions. You nod. He lets out a soft laugh, causing you to narrow your eyes at him. He immediately holds his hands up, indicating not to get mad at him for laughing. "I'm sorry, I'm laughing because I thought he told you something rude like calling you ugly or laughing when you asked." He responds.
"Well, hearing he's into someone else isn't exactly the most thrilling thing to hear."
"Yeah but it's better than being told he thinks you're ugly." He responds. You tilt your head to the side before taking a sip of your iced coffee. After swallowing you, lick your lips.
"You sound like you're speaking from experience." You state.
"Because I am." He nods his head towards the direction of the university. "I've had my fair share of bad dating at that same university despite not even going there." This causes you to tilt your head to the side before you decide to crack a joke.
"Do you think it's because that university has some sort of dating curse?" you question. This causes Taehyung to laugh before he shakes his head.
"Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if it did." He laughs before taking a sip of his drink. Next, he takes a plastic fork and begins splitting the cinnamon roll in half. "Give me a sec." he states before getting up towards the area where the sugar, napkins, and utensils are. He then comes back with an extra fork, giving it to you. You stare up at it before furrowing your eyebrows.
"What's this for?"
"We're splitting it." He states before smiling over at you. You tilt your head to the side.
"Wow, a gentleman." You state before taking the fork from him. He then turns the plate around to give you the larger half of the cinnamon roll. "Haven't encountered many of those." He laughs before shaking his head.
"Splitting a cinnamon roll is what you consider being a gentleman?" he questions before laughing and shaking his head. "Your expectations have been set far too low for what you deserve, Y/N." he states.
You let out a soft laugh and nod before shaking your head. You dig your fork into part of your half of the cinnamon roll.
"Yeah... sad, isn't it?" you question before taking a bite of the cinnamon roll. He shrugs before shaking his head.
"It's just because you haven't been on a good date in a while." He responds.
"But hey, that's why you took me out right now, right?" you ask, causing him to nod and smile over at you. "So, my one only good date, tell me about yourself." You say. This causes him to nod his head before running his fingers through his hair.
"Alright, well," he starts before clearing his throat. "I'm 26, I currently work in advertising, I have a younger brother and younger sister, and I'm learning to play the saxophone." He then takes a sip of his hot chocolate. This causes you to raise your eyebrows.
"Oh, really?" you question, smiling. "The saxophone? That's incredible. Do you like more classic music then?" he nods his head, grinning.
"I do. I love Frank Sinatra." He responds before glancing down at the cinnamon roll and taking a bite of his half. You tilt your head to the side before nodding your head.
"So, you like old-fashioned things, don't you?" you question before taking a sip of your drink. "I saw you at a museum as well, so I take it you like art?" He nods his head and smiles softly.
"Yeah, that's correct." He says. You take a bite out of your half of the cinnamon roll. "What about you? Tell me about yourself."
"Well, I was born and raised here. I have an older brother who lives in Europe now. I study architecture and I like coffee shops." You respond. He lets out a soft laugh as he says this.
"Well, damn. It sucks that your brother's in Europe. It'd be a hell of a lot easier to avoid bad dates if he was here." He states, causing you to laugh and nod.
"I know, but then I also wouldn't get any dates at all." You say before taking another sip of your coffee. He stares over at you for a few seconds before finishing up the rest of his half of the cinnamon roll.
You smile over at him before setting your drink down.
"So, Y/N, how often do you have classes?" he questions.
"I have classes three days a week but honestly, with the amount of precision my major takes, the other four days of the week are spent chugging coffee and finishing projects." You state. "Why do you ask?" He shrugs.
"Just wanted to know how often I need to be available for your future bad dates." He teases, a playful grin on his face. This causes you to laugh and roll your eyes. His eyes fixate on you as you laugh, a smile present on his face before he takes a sip of his hot chocolate once more.
"You're not the biggest coffee fan, are you?" you question while nodding your head towards the drink. He nods his head.
"Coffee can be a little too intense for me at times." He states.
"That's because you're probably ordering strong blends and not customizing them. That, or you order your coffee black like your friends probably do." You state. He tilts his head to the side, eyes sparkling as he stares at you.
"Yeah? Well, maybe the next time we get coffee to comfort you after a bad date, you can help me find a coffee I like." He says before running his tongue along his upper lip, cleaning his upper lip of the excess hot chocolate that got on it. You nod your head and grin.
"Sounds good to me." you state.
