Chapter 34
"I don't understand" Jaxton shook his head in confusion. How could I explain this much better to him? I sighed and turned to face him.
"You know how every school has like a devil?"
"Yeeeah?"
"Johnathan's just that. He's....bad news."
"I thought you were the devil of your old school?"
I frowned at him. "Why would you think that?"
Jaxton shrugged. "I don't know, it just seemed like it."
He wasn't wrong, but i said nothing.
"He doesn't look....bad."
"He is, trust me." I said, worried.
"You look like you hate him."
"Cause I do, Jaxton. You know how every school has these two people who hate themselves and are like rivals?"
"You mean like our school has Raven and Quinn?" He asked, arching his brow.
"Exactly. That's Johnathan and myself. A cunt." I gulped, arms folded as I watched the monster with the cunning smile on his face. I didn't like that he was here, it bothered me. The one reason I was glad I left Seattle was because of him, and now he's here.
Fuck.
"He is always up to no good, Jaxton. He's a bad person, and if you thought I was a bad person, then you've never met Johnathan."
Jaxton looked away from me and at Johnathan who was talking to a girl, a smile on his face. Johnathan was tall, he had charming, compelling eyes. He knew what part of a person to break mentally. He was the bad guy we never got in fairytales because they seemed to bad to be in there.
"That guy? Are you sure? I mean...He looks...nice." Jaxton said, also looking at him.
"That's his decoy. If I were you, I'd stay away from him. And I'm serious, do not be friendly with him."
Why was he here? Why Eastwood High?
Johnathan was busy talking to two cheerleaders who seemed to already be drawn to him. That was how he was, he had his real aura covered up by this nice guy act, and being attractive seemed to hide how terrible he was. They were laughing at something he said and he was grinning widely. His eyes looked towards my direction, and once he saw me, he just stared-while the girls talked. He slowly smiled at the sight of me, while I stared at him in disgust.
"Is he looking at you?" Jaxton asked.
Johnathan suddenly excused himself, and made his way towards me with a big smile. His backpack hanging on one shoulder.
"Oh shit! Dylan, he is coming this way." Jaxton whispered.
I said nothing and just watched him, anger suddenly being injected into my veins.
Jaxton quickly fixed a smile on his face, while I didn't even bother. He had a cute smile on, or that was what everyone saw, because behind that cuteness was a sociopath.
"Well, well, well." Jonathan smirked as he stood in front of Jaxton and I. "If it isn't castle's high great wizard." He grinned.
I just looked at him. "What are you doing here, Voldemort?"
"If this isn't God's doing then I wonder what is." He chuckled.
I rolled my eyes and scoffed.
"You know, I was kinda hating it here already and now I have seen a friend, and now I am sure I would love it here."
"Friend?" I cocked my brow at him. "Let's be careful now, Nathan."
Johnathan, who I often called Nathan, chuckled. "I got transfered into the same school that my best friend is in."
"This earth and the five thousand other ones, and we could never be friends. I probably have you murdered in the other ones."
Johnathan hissed. "Oh, how I have missed you, Stormie." He said and I swallowed hard at the name. "Can I at least get a hug?" He said and moved closer to me, pulling me into a hug.
I felt uncomfortable. My breath seized as I started to feel defenceless. I pushed him off me and glared at him. "Touch me again and I will fucking bathe you in acid." I said, annoyed.
He chuckled. "Sorry, sorry."
"Um, hi! You must be Johnathan Smith" Jaxton spoke, drawing Jonathan's attention to him. "I am Jaxton Olson, uh, and I am your tour guide." He smiled.
"Oh, right! Principal Evans told me about you. It is nice to meet you Jaxton Olson." Jonathan said and took his hand in his and shook gently. He gave Jaxton that same seductive smile of his that I knew very well, and my idiot friend blushed. "I'm sure I am gonna love it here already." he said and sent me a knowing look.
Jaxton pulled his hand back with a small smile. "Um, I am sure you w-"
"Why did you leave Seattle? Whatever happened there? Did you....do it to someone else?"
"It really isn't your business, love, but you can do your digging if you must." He still had that psychotic grin plastered on his face.
"Hmm." I fake smiled.
"I am so glad to see you sweetheart. I never thought we'd meet again but fate plays its cards so well. We're attending the same school....again." He smirked.
"Yeah." I nodded, brows arched. "Fate."
"So, can we get to your tour now, Johnathan?" Jaxton asked, awkwardly.
"Yes, handsome." He nodded, smiling at him. "You can call me Nathan, I actually do prefer that to the whole Johnathan thing. And, I must say, you do have amazing eyes."
Jaxton smiled like a fourteen year old girl asked by the boy of her dreams to prom, I gave him a glare.
"Um, thanks." Jaxton cleared his throat once he saw the look I gave him. "I will uh...I will see you later, Dylan."
"Mmhmm." I nodded, faking a smile at him. "Be careful around this one, Jaxton."
"Bye, Dylan. It was lovely seeing you again." Johnathan winked.
"Not mutual."
Johnathan snickered as they both walked away, and my smile disappeared. I quickly took out my phone and texted Jaxton because I was worried about him.
Me: If he tries to kiss you, bite his lips hard or scratch out his eyes with your fingers. I'll support you.
That should be enough warning!.
Once they were out of sight, I quickly took off the sweater I was wearing that Johnathan had hugged me in. I looked around for the nearest trashcan, walked over to it and threw it in. As I stared at it, it was then I noticed my heart beating a bit too fast. I took in several deep breaths and walked away from the trashcan.
I spotted Henry at his locker, he was wearing black office pants and a white shirt. The way he sometimes dressed like he was some rich cunt, which he actually was. A smile appeared on my face as I watched him. I walked over to him and leaned against the locker next to his.
"H-"
He slammed his locker shut and walked away, totally ignoring me. My words hanged in my throat.
I-
Someone explain to me what the fuck just happened?
I was flushed with embarrassment as I looked around, praying no one had seen what just happened.
I cleared my throat and began heading to my next class, taking my L with me. On my way, I spotted Henry, Zach and another guy whom I don't know or care for, talking and walking together at the other side of the hallway.
"Henry!" I called out to him. He turned and once he saw me, he just continued walking. I frowned, confused, and walked towards them really fast. Zach was saying something and sighed in disgust, rolling his eyes, and I knew he was talking about me. He was lucky I couldn't hear him.
"Hey," I held Henry's arm and twirled him to face me.
"What is it twinkle toes" Zach asked.
"Oh hi cum chugger" I flashed him a smile.
"Excuse me?"
"Listen here Sheldon Cooper, I'm honestly not in the mood to send you to hell so just back off"
Zach took a step forward and Henry stopped him by pulling him back. His expression didn't change, he just looked super bored or not interested in talking. to me. "What do you want?"
"I want to talk to you."
"I am not interested."
"What's wrong?" I whisper asked. "Why are you being such a dick all of a sudden? I just wanna-"
"I'm done talking." Henry said and turned to go, I quickly grabbed his hand. "Henry."
"Don't. Touch. Me" he said through gritted teeth and pulled his hand back harshly. I just looked at him, I was confused on why he was being an asshole, yesterday he was hugging me and today he's the same asshole from the beginning?
I was furious right now, Zach and the other guy were laughing at what just happened and it made me mad. I looked away and noticed some students were staring. I hate this school. No one ever minds their business.
I walked away and went back to my locker to take a pack of gum, i needed to chew some gum and fill my mouth with that to avoid saying shit. After that, I headed to history class, history was being held in the lab today and I had no idea why Mr. Rowen wanted us there, what part of history has to do with chemicals? That was the least of my problems.
I had a lot of things in my head right now. Why was Johnathan here? Why Eastwood high? Nathan of all people. And why was Henry being such a douchebag to me? I swear to God, if he fucking tries to talk to me, I will stab his eyeb-
"Did you lose your lunch money, Dylan?" Mr. Rowen asked and the class laughed. I looked up at him and realized I was still at the door.
"What?" I asked.
"You were walking slow. Is everything alright?" He asked while holding some sheets where he seated.
I smiled. "Sure." I nodded and walked to an empty seat. Zach and Henry were already here and were both sitting at the back having a discussion. Henry looked away from me and at the book on his desk while Zach kept talking about God knows what. I mean, I knew it was about me because he looked at me while he whispered into Henry's ears and would laugh while Henry just had a blank face.
I rolled my eyes and walked over to one of the empty seats and sat on it lazily. I noticed Jon sitting at the other end, he smiled at me weakly, he didn't have his football jacket on. Once he smiled, I didn't return it, I looked away.
"Hey." Christian smiled and sat next to me.
"You're still alive?"
"You don't check up on me." He shrugged. "And ouch!"
"Shut up." I chuckled. "How are you?"
"We were supposed to go out remember?"
"You mean after I found out Eric pushed me down the stairs? I'm so sorry I bailed on you, that wasn't important at all."
"Shit. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to"
"It's fine." I said and took out a book from my bag.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"You're not fine"
"I'm perfectly fine, Tate." I sneered.
Christian nodded. "Okay, okay, sorry."
I sighed, already feeling like a bitch, not that I am not always a bitch. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude to you."
"It's cool, and I am also sorry." He apologized as well and I just smiled at him.
"Apology accepted, Mr. Tate."
"You sure?"
"Yes, and to prove that, we can both have ice cream after school and you're gonna pay."
He laughed. "You suggested that but I get to pay?"
I nodded. "Yes."
"Uh...okay," he laughed, that smile was too perfect. "We haven't hung out since forever."
"I know," I sighed again. "We'll start from today, Christopher Ortega."
"That's not my name." he laughed.
"I like that one better." I laughed as well.
"Okay, class." Mr. Rowen began and we put on our serious face which made us laugh again, quieter this time.
"You do this to me all the time." I nudged his shoulder with mine.
"A week ago, I told you all go get ready for your projects and surprise. Its this week." he grinned and I just rolled my eyes.
"Why does he keep doing this?" Christian sighed
"That's because he's a fucktard" I replied.
"Today, you all will receive a paper with over fifty topics," he said as he walked around handing each table a typed A4 paper. "You all have just two weeks to finish your topic completely, leave no details out and i need two people to cooperate on it and you will defend it." he said and handed me mine, it was actually two which were stapled together.
The class went into an uproar, students weren't happy with this and I don't blame them but they should start getting used to the fact that Mr. Rowen just was looking for a way to punish us.
"Y'all should keep talking in unison like a bunch of rats being drowned." He said and handed Christian his. I laughed when he spoke and so did Christian.
"That was mean." Tate whispered to me.
"When is he never mean? I like him." I smirked.
"...I don't care" Mr. Rowen continued. "You all will have a partner in this project and no, you don't get to choose your partners. I get to pair you guys up." he smiled as he kept sharing the paper.
"You're kidding." I groaned and placed my head on the table.
"Hopefully he pairs us." Christian said and i rose my head to look at him, his smile made me smile.
"I don't think that it is gonna work, it never works out that way for anybody." I sighed.
"We'll see."
"Fingers crossed."
"Okay, now that you all have your copy," he continued and walked back to his desk. He took a piece of paper from the desk and rested his on it. "Time to pair you all up. Once I call your name, you will go and sit next to your partner and whosoever is sitting there has to stand and wait for his or her name."
"God please do not let him pair me with someone I don't know or want." I said, referring to Zachary.
"Tamara and Daniel, you're partners." he said looking at the paper. "Bruce and Tyler."
"Are you fucking kidding me?" I turned to the harsh voice as well as the class, it was the guy that I had seen a couple times with Eric.
"If you swear again, I'll have to take out five marks from your future scores since you're already failing his class," Mr. Rowen said and half of the class laughed. "Go to Tyler, there's a space beside him." He instructed.
Bruce sighed and stood up, he picked up his bag angrily and walked to Tyler. The Tyler kid looked down in embarrassment, I remembered Tyler once I saw his face. He was the same kid from that very first bully day, the same one I had rescued from Eric. I really hope Bruce doesn't give him trouble.
Mr. Rowen began to call names and students continued changing their seats. "Jon and Gwen. Hunter and Amber. Lisa and Christian."
"What?" I exclaimed in a little whisper, I was now upset.
So much for that thought.
"Well, I guess we can't be partners ,eh." He said as he packed his things and stood up with a sigh, still smiling.
"Noooo." I cried out in a loud dramatic whisper, which made him laugh.
"I better go to my partner. I'll see you later." he emphasized on that word.
"Don't leave me." I stretched my hand to hold onto him but he quickly walked away and laughed before going to his blond haired female partner.
If Christian isn't gonna be my partner, I wonder who its gonna be. Shit, I hope I'm not gonna have to regret this at all.
"Danny and Pinky, Zach and Daphne."
Zach smirked. "Well, at least its a girl" he said and stood up, walking over to where she was, sitting next to the brown curly haired called Daphne.
Mr. Rowen kept calling and pairing all the students, and I had not heard mine yet. I rested my face on my palm tiredly, while I waited.
"Dylan and Henry, Chloe and Jace."
My head rose instantly, the same time as my brows knitted. WHAT? "I'm-I'm sorry Mr. Rowen. I think you made a mistake or maybe I just didn't hear you well," I chuckled. "Um, did you say...Dylan and...and Henry?"
"Yes." He nodded and my smile vanished.
"Um, yeah, i think you should um....I can't work with someone who acts like he is sick upstairs."
"Mr. Rowen, you can't pair us up." Henry spoke up and that was the first reasonable thing he has said since forever.
"I agree." I nodded.
"He's a fucking screwup."
"Language Henry"
I slowly turned to him, shocked. "Excuse me."
"You are excused." He replied.
"I am a screwup?"
"I'd like to live you with one thought, but I'm not sure you have anywhere to put it."
Okay, now I was offended.
I just stared at him with a frown and he didn't flinch, he just looked like the asshole he was. "One question, did the doctor mistakenly drop you when you were born and you ended up hitting your head on the floor? Cause that will explain a whole lot of things right now."
He gave me the middle finger
"Screw you."
"Go fuck yourself, We don't want more idiots in this world that are of your breed." I smiled at him.
"Skermit."
"Meat flap."
"THAT IS ENOUGH! Jesus, you guys are at it again. If I was thinking of changing you both, I'm not gonna anymore. You're a team now. Switch seats now!" He ordered.
I rolled my eyes at Henry and looked back at Mr. Rowen, it wasn't long before I felt a presence beside me.
"Don't talk to me."
"I wasn't planning on doing that." I replied.
I asked God to not give me someone I don't want. He gave me Henry.
My partner just had to be Henry. It had to be him.
"Now, there are fifty topics on your paper and you and your partner are to decide on a specific topic that you want to work on and tell me, you have ten minutes to decide." he said and walked over to his seat.
Unbelievable. I get to work with this guy.
I looked at my paper and kept going through it, they were arranged alphabetically.
Battle of chancellorsville? No thank you.
Chickamauga? Pfft. Hell no.
Battle of Corinth? Nah
Battle of Fort Henry? Of course his name is here.
I looked through the pages, there was another one, number thirty six. Henry Slocuth. Pfft.
Twenty six: Civil war.
And here I am thinking about Marvel's civil war, my brain's so done for.
"Well, we'll be doing civil war, number twenty six."
"No." He disagreed.
I looked away from Mr. Rowen who I was about to tell and at him. "Huh?"
"Do you want me to say it in french?" He asked and looked at me.
I stiffened in my seat once those green eyes pierced mine, I gulped and looked away.
"Well, tell me what you got then, Squidward."
"Twelve or thirty six"
I looked at the numbers, of course they were both the ones that had his names in it.
I fake laughed and looked at him. "Not happening."
"Well that's what I want."
"Well, it's a fucking partnership project and if the other doesn't approve then it is not happening, and so I don't fucking want any topic that has that stupid name."
"Are you calling me stupid?"
"You said it not me." I shrugged.
"Mr. Rowen," Christian's partner 'Lisa' called.
"Yes?"
"We've decided. We chose the Hampton Roads Conference." Christian smiled.
"That's...the number thirty five. That's good" He smiled at them.
"We'll take the civil war." Bruce smiled like a child and I just growled in frustration
"We are?" Tyler asked, surprised at his pick.
"It's cool. Shut up"
"Alright. Civil war it is for the Tyler and Bruce." Mr. Rowen approved and wrote it down, and then other students started mentioning their topics.
"Well, we can't choose civil war now" Henry smirked.
"Battle of Nashville it is"
"No." He shook his head.
"The Gettysburg Address." He said while looking at his paper.
I turned to him and knitted my brows into a frown. "Does your grandmother live there? Cause if she doesn't then its a no from me" I shook my head.
"Bitch!"
"Asshat."
"The A-"
"The Atlanta Campaign" Someone else picked.
"Dang it." Henry clenched his gist.
"You wanted that?"
"Isn't that obvious?"
"Did I ever tell you I read minds? No? Okay, then shut up"
"You should watch your mouth, Dexwell."
"You don't scare me, Ashcroft." I replied as I read through the list.
The class continued picking topics and then it was remaining Henry and I.
"Have you both finally decided?" Mr. Rowen asked. "Or you need a month?"
"Can we get that? The one month s-"
"Pick!" Mr. Rowen cut me off.
"Yeeee...um..yeah" I cleared my throat.
"Okay, Let's hear it." he folded his arms.
I looked at Henry who also looked at me. "Well, tell him." He whispered.
"Oh, now you want me to?"
"You're such a waste of air."
"And you're such a waste of sperm."
"Guys?" Mr. Rowen called, calling back our attention. "Topic?"
"Um.." I scratched the back of my head and looked at the paper.
I better choose carefully.
"Battle of stones river" I wasn't the only one talking, Henry also picked the same topic and we had said it together.
"What number is that?" Mr. Rowen asked.
"Nineteen." Henry answered.
"Okay then, Stones river it is, at least you picked together." Mr. Rowen smiled and looked at the paper he was with and began writing down something on it, our names maybe.
"One question Mr. Rowen" Zach rose his hand.
"Yes?"
"Why are we having history in a lab?" He asked the question, we all so happened to be asking ourselves.
"Maintenance." He replied and just smiled.
I frowned.
The rest of the class was totally boring and I did try to pay attention a lot, but I just couldn't. The bell rang and I quickly stood up and began packing my things.
"Y'all should work as a team on your topics and remember, you only have two weeks." Mr. Rowen announced.
"You better not make me fail this project, Ashcroft" I said as I said before walking past him and out of the class.
"Hey." Christian spoke, suddenly appearing beside me.
"Tate."
"How do you feel about your new partner?"
"Do you really wanna go there?" I scowled. "This just brings back old memories."
"You mean the Shawn Mendes thing?"
"You just had to say it" I sighed.
Christian chuckled. "Sorry, well I have chemistry now, we have a practical to do and so I will have to see you later."
"Oh, okay. I guess I will see you later."
"Hey, guys" I looked ahead and saw Jaxton walking towards us.
Oh thank God.
"Did you get my text?" I asked suddenly.
"About the eye plugging thing? Sure." He replied with furrowed brows while holding his textbooks.
"Eye plugging?" Christian asked.
"Long story." I sighed.
"I don't even wanna know." He shook his head.
"Did he try anything?"
"Relax Dylan. Johnathan's a nice guy, seriously, he's super funny and—"
"Boy, what the fuck is wrong with your hispanic ass?"
Jaxton sighed in frustration. "He doesn't....seem that bad?"
I fake smiled and nodded. "Yeah, maybe you're right. I mean, he's not that bad, I guess he just happened to change overnight." I replied sarcastically
"That's the spirit." he patted my shoulder, ignoring the sarcasm. "Are you guys set for the game on Friday?" Jaxton asked Christian and I frowned in confusion.
Game?
"Yeah we are. We're always ready. We're the Eastwood's High Panthers"
"That's right!" Jaxton giggled.
"Well, I gotta go now." Christian said and ran his hand through his hair.
I turned to him with a smile. "Good luck on your practical thing."
"Thanks. I'll see you after school" he said as he walked backwards.
"If you don't , then text me."
He waved, turned and walked away.
"I am so confused." Jax sighed.
"How so?" I turned to look at him
"I don't know who to ship you with anymore. You and Henry or you and Christian. There's so much confusion and its so ugh.."
"You know who I ship you with?" I asked.
"Who?"
"The school nurse." I said as I walked past him. "Cause you will be visiting her more often if you mention this ship thing again and again."
"No seriously" he rushed after me. "I mean I hate Henry sometimes, but the way you both are most of the time is so fucking cute and makes me want to squeal and then there's Christian and he's so nice and he's super cute and you both will also make a good couple"
"You need a boyfriend."
"No, I don't." he shook his head.
I turned to him and placed my hands on his shoulder. "You need to get over this Vaughn thing. He's in jail and its in the past now, and Quinn might have sold you out to the whole school but it doesn't matter, you know why? Cause whatever they think don't matter at all. As long as you've got the Dexwells, you're fine" I smiled at him.
He smiled back and this one was real. "Thanks Dylan. I'm just...not ready for a boyfriend yet"
"I respect that." I said and ruffled his hair.
"Stop." He said with a laugh and I laughed as well. "Now, back to the shipping thing. Does the name Dylry fit? Hylan?"
I groaned, rolling my eyes and walked away in frustration.
"I haven't picked out Christian's name yet!" He yelled to my hearing.
"Shut up!" I yelled, throwing my hands up in the air.
