Chapter 43
~•Dylan's P.O.V•~
The ambulance arrived five minutes later, I wanted to run out with her and drive to a hospital myself cause I was getting impatient but I knew better. I had spotted Jaxton running to the house once the paramedics started taking her into the ambulance. He wanted to know what had happened but I didn't know myself.
We arrived at the hospital sooner than I expected, the doctors rushed to the entrance and took her immediately to one of the emergency rooms with the cot to attend to her, they wouldn't let me in with them. I also got in a fight with one of the male nurses to let me in with my mom but he still wouldn't. Jaxton had to hold me back and kept trying to explain to me that I shouldn't be in there whole they were doing their job.
As i waited, I began to get impatient and started pacing around. I couldn't do anything, I had to let them do their job. I finally sat next to Jaxton with a sigh.
"You need to calm down, Dylan. She'll be fine." He assured me.
"I don't know what happened, Jaxton." I looked at my hands as I spoke. "I don't know why she was unconscious, I don't..." I let out a heavy sigh. "If I hadn't gone back for my phone, i don't know what could have happened."
"Don't think about it, they're attending to her. She'll be fine." He patted my shoulder, I looked at him and back at the door of the room she was in.
"DYLAN!" A familiar called, I quickly looked and saw Dad running towards us.
"Dad!" I stood up and I found myself walking over to him.
"W-"
I hugged him tightly, he hesitated at first not hugging me back but then he did.
"I don't know what happened, Dad." I cried.
"Where is she?" He asked, I moved away from him and pointed to the room. "She's in there, they've been attending to her for over five fucking minutes now. They won't even tell me anything and..."
"Dylan," he placed his hands on both my shoulders. "Breathe okay,"
I nodded and did as he said.
"Now tell me."
"I w-went back home to get my phone and I just s-saw her laying on the floor, she wasn't waking up and..and I don't know what happened. I just called the ambulance." I explained.
He looked at the door and gulped, he placed his hand on my shoulder. "She's gonna be fine, Alright?"
I nodded. "Yeah,"
We waited outside for a while, the three of us all together. I had gotten a grip of myself and Jaxton was sitting in between Dad and I.
"I'll go get coffee," Jaxton said and stood up. "Anyone want one?"
Dad nodded.
"Dylan?" He called, asking me.
I shook my head. "I'm fine, thanks."
He nodded and left. It went silent, it was a totally awkward time right now cause I never spoke to him and we were never alone, and I don't know what came over me that made me hug him when he came in.
"You okay?" He asked, breaking the ice.
I nodded and sniffed. "Yeah, I'm fine." I answered not looking at him.
"She'll be fine. Your mother is literally the strongest in our family," he said and I looked up at him.
I felt myself tear up. "I don't wanna lose her." I said, my voice came out shaky.
"We are not losing her, we don't know what happened. She'll be alright, she's a fighter. She'll come out strong."
"You don't know that." I chuckled sadly.
"I do. I've been married to her for more than a decade, and I've known her for more than two decades."
I chuckled.
"Look, I know I was an awful father back then, the worst, but I've been making improvements and I'm really trying to be the dad you need. The husband your mom deserves," He paused. "An almost perfect father, I know you can never forgive me for what happened years ago but I'm so sorry, Dylan. I'm not gonna stop apologizing, and I really do hope that one day you forgive me."
"Let's not make this about you." I sighed, looking away.
"I know," he looked down. "But then you hate me and at the end, everything still affects your mother."
"I don't hate you."
He huffed. "Yeah, sure. You won't even look at me, you don't want my help, whenever you look at me all you see is a murderer."
He was right, I couldn't pretend that he was lying.
"I really hope one day you do forgive me and it's not too late, I know I deserve this punishment from you to shut me out of your life even though it eats me up that my only child won't even look at me, any father would be hurt. I cannot forgive myself for what happened and I can't take it back, Dylan. I can't. I killed my own son but God knows it wasn't intentional, I didn't know he was in the car and I would trade my life for his if I could. I'm sorry I caused you pain, I'm sorry I took away your best friend, your brother away from you. I'm sorry, Dylan."
I looked up at him, the tears were about to fall from my eyes, he was already tearing up. "I-"
The door opened cutting me off, we both stood up and looked at the Doctor, who walked out with a sigh. I wiped off my tears and looked at him.
"Is she okay?" Dad and I asked at the same time.
"She's fine, she's still unconscious."
"Oh, thank God." I muttered and rubbed my face. "W-What happened?"
"You know she's not supposed doing much work in her condition, right? This could have been bad, did she slip and fall or something?"
Dad and I frowned and looked at each other, both of us confused.
"Wait, wait, hold up." Dad blinked severally. "Her condition?" Dad asked with knitted brows.
"Yeah?" The doctor gave us a confused look as well.
"What are you talking about?" I asked with all seriousness. "What conditions?"
"You...didn't know?"
"Know what?" Dad asked.
He just looked at us and I felt my hands get sweaty, I was a little scared now, maybe more than a little. Was it cancer? Oh God.
"Are you her husband?" He asked, looking at dad.
"Yes, I am." Dad nodded, answering real fast.
"And you...didn't know?"
"Just tell us and stop beating around the bush!" I demanded, frustratedly.
"She's pregnant." He announced.
My jaw dropped, It was my turn to blink severally. "I'm sorry What?"
"What are you talking about?" Dad let out a forced chuckle.
"Yeah," he nodded giving us a look of disbelief like 'how didn't you know?'. "Your wife's pregnant. She's far gone," he smiled. "She's three months pregnant."
My eyes widen.
I did not see that one coming.
"Are y-you sure its her report you've got?" I asked, still surprised.
"Yeah,"
"H-Hold on," Dad chimed in. "If she's three months pregnant as you said, why doesn't she have a little bump already?" He asked.
"Well sometimes the bump starts to show at five months, and some people don't tend to know they're pregnant until well...their third month and some their fifth month." He explained.
"Oh," I muttered.
"So, she's pregnant." He smiled.
"He's actually s-serious about this? Mom's....having a baby."
Oh. My. God. I'm gonna be a brother...again.
"She's pregnant?" Dad asked with a big smile, chuckling afterwards. "She's pregnant." He smiled like he had won a trophy.
I was smiling so bad right now, I couldn't help it, I was happy. Dad looked at me and laughed excitedly. "Your mom's-"
"Pregnant!" I completed with a chuckle.
He laughed with so much happiness. "Yes!!"
"Congra...tulations." The doctor smiled. "But she was really lucky, she could have had a miscarriage."
My heart stopped for a second and dad's smile faded the same time mine did.
"What?" He asked.
"Yeah, whatever must have happened was risky. Did she ever fall or hit her belly anywhere?"
"No, I d-don't think so." Dad shook his head and looked at me.
"No, she didn't, I mean I'd kn-" I trailed off.
I instantly had a flashback to the time mom had a fight with Jaxton's mom and she pushed mom when she turned to say something to us. Mom had lost her balance and hit herself on the couch, she had hit her stomach on the couch when she was pushed. That was while she stayed for a while there, she felt pain, and that must be what led to her fainting. It was all Mrs. Olson's fault.
"Dylan?"
I looked up at dad, coming out of my thoughts. "Hmm?"
"Do you have any idea?"
"No," I shook my head. "I d-dont." I lied.
"Well this must have happened when you guys weren't around, she needs someone around her to take care of her now cause this shouldn't happen again, it was really risky." He shook his head at us. "And shouldn't be doing so much work. The baby's very fine and your wife is fine as well, thankfully you were there when she fainted." He looked at me. "If no one was actually there at that moment, God knows the baby would have been gone by now, that could have led to her bleeding out." He said and I felt a sudden cold allover my body. "But she's fine,"
"Um..Thanks so much." Dad smiled at him.
"You're welcome." He smiled back and walked away.
Dad ran his hand through his hair. "Oh thank you, lord." He let out a heavy sigh. I just stared at him, this man right here was in love with my mother and I guess God has forgiven him as well by giving us another Dexwell, we were gonna be four. Four Dexwells.
I smiled at the thought.
I shouldn't hold a grudge against him anymore, I guess he has suffered enough, he realized his mistake, I've made him suffer enough. Henry was right though, this wasn't his fault at all, he didn't mean for Isaac to go but even though I kept telling myself that, I still couldn't stop myself from blaming him for this cause he took Isaac away from me. From mom. But now we're having another baby, a baby that deserves happiness and shouldn't come to this world only to see the hate that happens in our house, it still hurts and I can never forget what happened eight years ago but, this was the time for Matthew to make it up to me, to us, to the baby.
"I forgive you." I blurted.
He looked away from the door and at me. "W-What?"
"I..I forgive you."
He was quiet for a while and then a smile formed on his face as I looked up at him with a blank expression. I could see the happiness in his eyes once he heard those words. "I..thank you. Thank y-"
"Just one condition."
"Anything, just name it." He said hastily.
"You will be a good dad to our new addition."
He nodded. "I promise."
"And you'll love mom forever and be the best dad in the world, and you will love that child with all your heart, you'll never take alcohol and will never repeat the shit you did eight years ago...and you'll be the father figure to both of us or I swear I will kill you in your sleep."
"Yes, Yes." He nodded. "I promise to be the best father to the both of you and I promise to love your mom till the end of time, I haven't tasted alcohol in eight years." He shook his head. "And I won't take alcohol again, I'm sorry Dylan. I'm so sorry." He said, his eyes suddenly getting red.
"Okay," I gave a slow nod and hugged myself. "If you fail to, if you break just one promise and make my mother cry or this child or come home drunk, you'll be leaving for good this time."
He wiped off his tears and nodded. "I swear on my life."
I nodded and tried blinking out the tears forming in my eyes.
"Can I...Can I get a hug?" He asked, softly.
I swallowed. "I don't think so, it might take some time getting used t-" i didn't get to finish cause he was already hugging me which shocked me.
"I'm sorry, Dylan. I'm so sorry." He whispered, I stood still for a little while. It had been fucking forever since we ever hugged, my hands found its way around him and I hugged him back and cried on his chest.
"I'm sorry." I muttered.
"I should be the one apologizing for everything." He chuckled and sniffed, trying not to cry out. "That was more than one condition though." He said and I chuckled.
"Oh, thank God." Jaxton said from behind dad. We broke the hug and smiled at Jaxton. "Watching a father and son hate each other was not the best thing." He smiled and handed dad his coffee.
"Guess what, Jax." I grinned.
"What?"
"My mom's pregnant."
His jaw dropped, he smiled widely and squealed before walking towards me and hugging me. "I'm so happy for you all!! Oh My God."
"Thanks." I grinned, still.
"Congratulations, Mr. Dexwell." He smiled at dad.
"Thanks, Jaxton." He chuckled. "An addition to our family." He smiled. "I'm gonna have another kid." He laughed and ran his hand through his hair again. "I'm so excited, I..I need to call our parents. I'll be right back." He said as he took out his phone with a big smile and walked away.
"You're so happy." Jax said to me.
I smiled. "This new sibling of mine is gonna have a badass older brother, I'm allowed to be happy. I'm gonna teach him so many things"
Jax's smile faded. "Oh no, you're not gonna ruin that poor innocent kid's mind and make him like you. We're running out of good people on this world." He shook his head.
"Shut up," I chuckled. "I'm not ruining his life, just teaching him a few things." I corrected him with a smile.
"Poor kid." He sighed dramatically.
"Have I told you I hate you yet?"
"I think you did today."
"I hate you."
"Me too." He beamed.

Jaxton and I had gone home earlier to make a meal for her and bring a change of clothes, I wasn't a good cook so Jaxton had to do the cooking.
It'd been two hours, Jax, Dad and I were relieved ever since the doctor said she was fine, a huge weight had been lifted off our chests...off my chest.
What were we doing now? The three of us were currently in the room mom was in, sleeping. We were arguing about the baby's gender.
"It's a boy, trust me. Boy's are sneaky even when they're still in the belly." I stated.
Jax snorted. "I bet it's a girl, she kept quiet for three fucking months. Girls do that."
"Language." Dad arched his brow at him.
"Sorry." He mouthed.
"It's a boy, i know that."
"I'd say its both," Dad cut in and we both looked at him. "Twins."
"Hell no!" I disagreed. "They'd be showing."
We argued about this for what seemed like hours but was just seven minutes until that voice interrupted.
"Jesus, so much noise. It's like a bunch of Dylan's are around me." Mom softly said and opened her eyes, she looked at me and her face fell. "Oh God. It's the end of the world."
"I'm so offended right now." I frowned. "I'm not the Antichrist." I folded my arms at her.
She sighed and sat up.
"Woah, you should lay down." Dad said and tried to put her down. She glared at him making him gulp and sit back down.
"How do you feel?" Jaxton said and sat by the side of her bed.
"My head hurts a little, but I'm fine." She smiled, her hair was rough and she still looked tired. She scratched her hair and looked at us, she frowned instantly, giving us a weird look. "W-Why are you all smiling like aliens tryin to abduct me?"
I was smiling at her, I didn't know the others were too.
"We're just happy." I grinned while sitting on the bed as well.
"Why?" She pucked her brow, suspiciously.
Dad held her hand with a big smile on his face, she looked at him still confused on what was going on. "Sweety, we're having another baby."
Mom blinked, her lips curbed up as if dad was saying something she didn't want to hear or believe. "What?"
"We're having an addition to our family!" He chuckled.
Mom paused and then she slapped him hard. I quickly got off the bed in fear cause the slap was loud and unexpected, while Jaxton cringed where he sat, at the hot slap.
Dad clutched his cheek, his eyes widen as he just stared back at her, I slowly placed my hand on my cheek cause it looked and felt so painful, I felt it for him.
"What was that for?" Dad frowned.
"Who did you get pregnant? I swear to God I will beat the shit out of her until that baby goes back to heaven," She glared at him. "Is this how you share the news of you knocking someone up? Who is it? Huh?"
"What? N-No one," Dad still held his cheek. "I was talking about you, you're the one with the baby. You're pregnant! Jesus Christ!" He rubbed his cheek.
Mom just sat there, she just looked at him thunderstrucked. She was quiet and so were we. She blinked and looked from dad to Jaxton and then me. "I'm pregnant?"
We all nodded at the same time.
"Mmhmm."
"Yes."
"Uh uh."
Mom's quietness was scaring us and soon she laughed. "I'm pregnant. Oh My God, I'm pregnant." She looked at Dad, she grabbed his face and kissed him forgetting that she just slapped him. Women can never be understood, she didn't even apologize.
"Ew." I covered my face.
She was super excited about the news. "I'm gonna have another baby, we're having another....oh God. That means I'm gonna get fat again and-" she gasped. "That explains why I've been eating so much."
That was what she was worried about?
I guess that did explain why she was getting lazy to go to work, looking tired almost all the time and eating every time.
"You didn't go to the hospital when dad said you should, did you?" I folded my arms.
She hesitated before replying. "Well...I didn't think there was need. I mean, I just thought it was that time of the month and it was a hard one, yesterday as well. I didn't even think it'd be a baby inside of me," she rubbed her tummy through the hospital gown. "It's been years."
"The doctor said, whatever happened was because you fell or hit your tummy somewhere, did you?" Dad asked, I didn't want mom to remember cause Jaxton was here and he'd feel awful about what his mother did.
"I don't think so." She shook her head. "I mean I am super careful and didn't fall and I-" she trailed off and I knew she finally remembered. She looked at Jaxton for a little while and I panicked, then she looked at me, she didn't even wait to see my pleading eyes before looking back at dad. "No, I don't remember. Maybe someone did hit me or something on the road." She shrugged.
I let out a silent heavy sigh of relief, she covered up for him. I knew she remembered but she was keeping silent because she was thinking the same thing I was.
"Oh well, the good thing is you're fine and so is the baby." He said with a smile and rubbed her stomach even though there wasn't a bump yet. "I love you."
She smiled. "I love you too."
"Aw" Jax grinned. "I want this when I'm married."
They both laughed.
"Well, we brought you food." Jaxton said with a smile and went to bring out the flask.
"Aw, that's sweet of you boys." She smiled back. She opened it and gasped "Lasagna."
"I made it." Jax announced.
"I helped as well, assface."
"Dylan." Mom called and arched her brow at me.
"Oh he helped, Alright." Jax rolled his eyes. Okay maybe I didn't really help but I kept him company in the kitchen, that counts.
We all talked , argued about stupid things and laughed as well. It was a happy moment and I was always gonna remember this day.
***
Mom got discharged that same day and we all went home by six in the evening, mom was happy that she was finally out of those gowns that had no fashion as she said.
"I called my parents to tell them about the news, I didn't tell yours though. I thought you'd want to do that yourself and so I told my parents not to tell them." Dad explained to mom as we walked into the house.
"Thanks so much, sweetheart." She kissed him.
"Enough please." I sighed. "That's too much, get a room."
"Leave them be." Jaxton said with a smile on his face. "At least, we'd understand the hickeys." Jaxton said in a low tone as he stood next to me.
"Jaxton, shut up." I gritted out.
He just smirked. "I'll be upstairs, I need to call Dom."
Dom?
"Congratulations again Mr and Mrs. Dexwell." He beamed.
"Thanks, honey." Mom said and hugged him, he went upstairs right after that.
"So," I walked towards them. "We're gonna be four again." I smiled.
They smiled and looked at each other, lovingly. It was cute, it was exactly what I wanted just like jax said earlier. This love right here.
"Yeah," Mom nodded. "I'm excited."
"You deserve all the happiness in the world, love." Dad kissed her forehead.
"Who's hungry for pizza?" I asked as I pulled out my phone.
"I'm starving, I know I just ate few hours ago but I can't help it." Mom sighed.
"Its okay, love. I'm hungry too." Dad said.
"Okay, pepperoni, chicken dominator, or Neapolitan? " I asked as I dialed the number.
"Neapolitan, the largest." Dad answered.
"Aiit." I nodded, and ordered once they answered my call. "They'll be here in ten." I said with a sigh. I looked at mom, she had a weird look on her face. "Wha-t's wrong?"
"You're both...talking to each other. Am I dreaming?"
We laughed.
"Dylan forgave me, all I have to do is be a good Dad and love you forever." Dad smiled and wrapped his arms around mom's waist from behind.
"I'm ready to let go of the past." I nodded. "It's time to move forward."
That hurt my throat a bit once I had said that but I just smiled stupidly, there was no moving forward from such thing. Who could ever forget a sibling who died? Fifteen years isn't even enough to forget and I know mom still cries about him, I've heard her.
Mom smiled. "I'm proud of you, sweetie. This baby is definitely a miracle, I can't still believe I'm pregnant." She grinned widely. "I'm gonna go call mom." She pecked dad's cheek and walked away.
Dad looked at me and smiled. "Thanks again, son. For this opportunity."
"Stoooop." I giggled and walked to him, hugging him.
Baby Dexwell was definitely what we needed in our family, he or she was a miracle as mom said and the reason for a fresh start. I was happy the baby was safe, I was glad that mom was and she was happy. They both were and so was I. She could have lost the child cause of Mrs. Olson and that means I'll have to pay her a visit, to give her one last warning, one that was worth convincing to stay out.
"Dylan, could you get that?" Dad yelled from the kitchen.
I blinked back into reality. "What?"
"The door."
Then the knock came again.
"Got it," I nodded. Well, the pizza delivery is fast." I said as I approached it. "JAXTON! PIZZA'S HERE!" I yelled to his hearing and soon I heard loud footsteps, coming down.
I chuckled once I got to the door and opened it. "That was f-" I trailed off once I saw who was right in front of me. My eyes widen at this surprise guest, It was no pizza man. I couldn't help but wonder if this person had forgotten their way or something. I never thought those eyes would ever want to look right at me without the body acting like it was disgusted, never thought this person would ever be standing right in front of my house. Those eyes had been crying for a while though, I saw through them in a way.
"Is it him?" Jaxton asked as he jogged towards me.
I didn't look back at him, I just kept staring at the girl who felt awkward.
"No," I paused. "It's Raven."
Author's Note:
Dun! Dun! Dun!!
Keep your shit together about the Raven thing, it was added last minute though. Lmao. 😂
We're having a baby added to the family soon! ❤😭 This was the surprise I had for Luna and I had this all planned out since and this was supposed to be in chapter 35, but I didn't know how it was gonna be. First it was just gonna be normal and she'd faint in Dylan's hands (that's not normal) but I needed a reason, I needed a good one and since I'm like the drama lord 👑, and the fact that God also hears prayers; Mrs. Olson happened to come at the right time and well,I thought why not her.
•
On a scale of one to ten, how much do you love Mrs. Dexwell? ❤👑
