Chapter 16: Purple Lilies

~Lucy's POV~

I rustled around in my bed sheets, unable to sleep. I grabbed onto the sheets out of frustration, wrinkling them tremendously. I balled up my fists and let out a big sigh. I let go and ran my fingers through my hair.

My eyes darted to my phone on the bedside table. I extended my arm and reached for the small cellular device. The metal was cool against my skin, sending shivers down my spine.

I turned it on and glanced at the time. It was three in the morning. Disappointed, I roughly placed my phone back on the wooden nightstand.

I brought my hands up to my face and rubbed my eyes vigorously. I wiped the crust from their corners, clearing my vision. Darkness filled my eyes as they tried to adjust to the strange lighting. A dark purple filter was produced, the moonlight shining brightly against it.

I swung my legs over the side of the bed frame and hopped onto my feet. I made sure to pull down my short sleeping shorts.

I walked towards the white door; the exit to my guest room. I opened it slowly, knowing that it would creak if I opened it too quickly.

I opened the door to a sliver where I could shove my body through the crack. I made my way to the silent kitchen. Maybe a glass of water would help me relax.

I clutched the handle of the big black refrigerator and opened it. The white light produced by the fridge made me flinch. I scrunched my eyes as they started to water from the sudden change.

I picked up the conveniently placed cup from the bottom rack in the refridgerator. I filled it with crystal clear water from the filter. I shut the heavy door and took a seat at the island. I leaned my elbows on the table, placing my head in one of my hands.

I sipped the water slowly, thinking about how tired I was going to be tomorrow. After finishing my glass, I quietly placed it in the sink, and headed back to my room.

~Natsu's POV~

My eyes fluttered open to the sound of the creaking door. I'm an extremely light sleeper, even a simple noise could wake me. Being a light sleeper can be bitter-sweet. Trust me, I love sleep, but it's nice to easily be woken up if necessary.

I blinked a few times to focus my vision, seeing Lucy cowering at the door. She was wearing pretty short night pants, exposing her long legs. Her cream colored skin reflected off of the darkness that occupied my space. I couldn't help but stare at her beauty.

"Sorry to wake you," Lucy whispered. "I just couldn't sleep." Her words broke the light silence between us. She tip toed into my room, closing the door behind her.

"No, it's fine," I said groggily.  I detached my gaze from her, sitting up slightly. I wiped my face, trying to  wake myself up. She stood there with her mouth slightly agape, staring at me.

I followed her gaze to the exact spot where she was looking. I then smirked, realizing that I wasn't wearing a shirt. She caught on to my realization and blushed intensely. Even through the darkness, I could see her cheeks turn a bright red.

"Come here," I said gesturing her presence with my hands. She hesitated, but then stepped towards me. I moved my body towards the wall, leaving her a space to lie down on my bed. I lifted up the multiple blankets as her small body slid under them.

I could tell that she was slightly uncomfortable, but she surprisingly turned to face me. I leaned my head in the palm of my hand, peering down upon her.

"I know I've said it multiple times, but thank you for everything." Without another word she turned her body away from me. I shook my head and let out a weak laugh. My throat wasn't exactly ready for the day to start.

"It was my pleasure," I said as I laid my head down on the pillow beside her. I stared up at the ceiling, questioning my luck. How did I get so lucky? After pondering on the thought for a few minutes, I heard Lucy shift in her sleep. She nuzzled up against me, her heart beat coursing through me.

I draped my arm around her waist, pulling her in close. I felt honored to touch her smooth skin. I took my free hand and lightly pulled at her hair. I flattened down the tangles that had formed. Lucy had a very distinct smell of vanilla.

I had asked her if she had used any vanilla products, but she denied use of any. I don't know how long we sat like that, but eventually, I fell asleep too.

~Lucy's POV~

I woke up to the smell of mint. Before even opening my eyes, I knew it was Natsu. I was taken aback by Natsu's nonexistent presence. I fell asleep minutes after confronting Natsu last night. It was shocking how fast I drifted into the sleepy dimension.

My eyes fluttered open after hours of much needed sleep. I cleared the new layer of crust that formed. Another aroma then filled my nose. As I looked down at the bed, a single purple flower lay in front of me.

I gently picked it up with both of my hands, letting it sit in my palm. I lifted the beautiful Lilie up to nose, inhaling the fresh scent of nature. I placed it on the bedside table, smiling from the unexpected surprise. My guess was that Natsu had something to do with this.

I pushed the blankets off of me, jumping out of bed. I opened the door to Natsu's room, seeing another flower directly at my feet. I bent down to pick it up, noticing a trail heading towards the kitchen.

I stopped at each flower to collect it until I had a handful.

"What's this?" I asked playfully as I entered the kitchen. Natsu was bending over the stove making one of my favorite breakfast foods, pancakes of course! He turned to me with a spatula in hand. A few streaks of flour covered his face.

"It's a surprise," Natsu said as he turned towards me. He patted the island counter, motioning me to sit down. I shook my head and smiled, following his orders.

"You know I'm not a fan of surprises," I said as I took a seat in the high metal stool. Natsu smirked and turned back towards the stove.

"You'll like this one, I swear." He said as the sizzling pancake batter splattered into a pan. It produced an amazing aroma, one that filled the entire house.

"I didn't know you could cook," I stated as I changed the subject.

"I'm a great chef Lucy!" Natsu said as he whacked his own head with a wooden spoon. I laughed at his silly behavior. My curiosity began to kick in as the pancake was flipped. What was taking so long? It usually takes like a minute to make a pancake.

I stood up and headed over towards Natsu. I tried to look but he instantly blocked my way.

"What are you doing?" I asked, trying to peer over his large shoulder.

"No peeking!" Natsu yelled as he covered my eyes with his hand.

"Let me see," I whined as I struggled to get his hand off of me. He grabbed my wrists and held me close as I tried to escape. He was at least a foot taller than me, so I had zero chance of getting away. We were facing each other, him holding me captive.

"Go back and sit down," he said as he lightly turned me around. He removed his hands and got back to work, at least that's what it seemed like, until I got flour thrown at me. I stood there, shocked at his notion. The only thing I could do was stick my hand in the flour bag.

I then threw a little at his back, sprinkling his black t-shirt with white specks. My purple t-shirt had also been splattered by the flour. I tried to reach for the bag, but Natsu took it away from me.

"Please Lucy," Natsu said as he showed me as he pouted his lips. I rolled my eyes to show that I was annoyed, but on the inside, that puppy dog look made me melt. Too add the cherry on top, he dabbed flour onto my nose.

I couldn't help but smile. These cute kitchen fights only seemed to happen in fairy tales.

After another minute of waiting, Natsu turned off the gas. He flopped the pancake onto a big plate, setting a purple lilie on the side of it. He brought the plate towards me, placing it down in front of me. He instantly ran to sit next to me, slinging his arm over my shoulder in the process.

My eyes were naturally drawn to the vibrant purple color, but then I noticed something else. Written in black icing were five very important words. Words that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Will you be my girlfriend?

I gasped, bringing my hands up to my mouth. I don't know when I started crying, but a single tear slid down my cheek. I'm just such an emotional person.

"Yes!" I answered as I turned towards Natsu. My heart had no hesitation to this encounter. The words just left my lips, no consideration needed.

I instantly grabbed his face and kissed him on the cheek. His hands found their way around my back, holding me tightly. I laid my head in the crook of his shoulder, laughing.

His smile was so radiant, so bright with happiness. I pulled myself away from him, wiping the one tear away from my eye.

"See, I told you you would like that surprise." Natsu as he grinned, talking my hand ever so gently. He leaned in and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.

"You're too sweet," I said as I rubbed my thumb over the top of his hand. His skin was so smooth it was unreal. We were both smiling, 100% happy. I was extremely excited to start off this relationship.

The day was November 7th, 10:14 am. Yes, I remembered the exact time; the exact minute when my life changed forever.

"Now, lets dig in!" Natsu said as he ruffled my hair. He handed me a fork, and we ate breakfast together.
