"Isn't this the best date ever?" Brody mused with his mouth full of egg rolls. I let out a laugh and chucked him a napkin. He caught it and dabbed at his cheeks, his eyes never leaving mine.

"I mean the noodles at Zenns are the best out there by far, not too sure about this date though," I teased twirling my noodles with my fork.

Brody gasped in mock hurt, "How could you say such a thing,"

"I mean for starters you ordered squid, like really Brody you can still see the tentacles,"

"It's delicious, how can you not agree? Especially with that mayo sauce, they have on the side, it's spicy but not too spicy yano?"

I shook my head slowly, "You are just a criminal,"

"Come on," He waved his hand in exasperation, "You ordered chicken wings! You don't come to Zenns and order chicken wings,"

"It's salt and pepper wings," I corrected, "Have you ever tried them? Don't mock till you try boy,"

"I don't need to try them, you sprayed enough of them on my face when you were eating,"

My eyes widened and I squeaked, "I did not,"

"You did," He mimicked my voice and I narrowed my eyes, "I'm gonna have to wash salt and pepper out of my hair for weeks,"

I rolled my eyes and raised my noodles to my mouth, "Stop being dramatic," I took a huge bite and smiled in satisfaction at the mixture of flavours bursting in my mouth.

There was a reason my dad and I loved this place.

A sudden pang of hurt hit my chest as I thought about my dad. I took a large gulp of water to try and wash it down but my hand betrayed me by shaking against the glass. Brody's eyes fell to my hand and he frowned. His eyes then scanned around the room and when they found what he was looking for he grinned.

He leaned forward with his elbows on the table and gestured his thumb to the left of him.

"The man sat over there has bean sprouts in his moustache and his date hasn't told him yet,"

I instantly laughed, following his gaze to find it was true. A couple sat two rows away from us were talking intently despite the fact the man had food stuck in his thick moustache. I hoped it wasn't a first date.

"That's just mean if she's talking to him fully knowing," I joked, "Maybe she can't see?"

"What do you mean? Like she's blind?"

"Yes, she could be blind, just because you haven't got sight doesn't mean you can't date Brody" I rolled my eyes.

"I guess that explains why she hasn't noticed, and I didn't say she couldn't date, but I wish she could see how much that man is clearly punching,"

"Why?" I cocked a brow, "You think she's better than him?"

"By far," He blurted out and then realised what he said and tried to backtrack, "Not saying she's hot or anything just saying she could do better,"

"How can you guess that from the back of her head?"

"I don't know, I just have a feeling for these things,"

I rolled my eyes so far I could see my brain, "Alright Mystic Meg put the crystal away,"

Just as I said that the lady stood up, turned to face us and I let out a laugh so loud I thought my throat was going to explode. Stood facing us was in fact not a lady but a man, a much older man with stubble and a slipknot t-shirt tight against his muscles. Even though the rest of him screamed male superiority complex, his hair was long, blonde and silky.

The type you'd see in a conditioner advert. I wondered if he'd give me tips.

I turned to face Brody, his face was brighter than the morning sun and I thought he was going to pass out, "You have a feeling for these things right?" I had to fight the urge to laugh again, my lips fighting to twitch up into a smile.

"Shut up," He grumbled, shoving another egg roll into his mouth.

"Do you have something you'd like to confess?" I teased poking his shoulder and he scowled with his cheeks poking out from the food in his mouth.

He swallowed, "No, I do not thank you. I'm not that way inclined,"

"You could have fooled me, seeing as that guy is clearly punching, wasn't that your words?"

"His hair is silkier than my stepmoms pyjamas okay?" He erupted, loud enough that a few heads turned in our direction and gave us a weird look.

"Okay okay," I put my hands up in defeat, "If you say so,"

"I'm starting to think my decision to take you here was a bad one," He mumbled in a sulky tone, picking at his rice with his fork.

"I am grateful you took me here," I said with seriousness washing over me and a warm smile reaching my lips. His eyes shot up at the change and his expression softened.

"I'm grateful you are here with me," He replied his whiskey eyes warm in the dim lighting of the venue. He reached out and placed a hand on mine, his thumb drawing circles on my knuckles.

"We used to sit in that corner," I nodded towards a table hidden next to the giant tropical fish tank, "We'd always request to sit there and after a while, we didn't have to ask anymore. My dad knew I loved looking up at the fish, I liked seeing all their different colours and shapes," I smiled at the memory, "A few weeks later he surprised me with my very own tank, granted it wasn't as big as this one but it was big enough for me and I collected all different types of fish, little did I know most aquarium fish either eat each other or die themselves and you shouldn't clean a tank with bleach but I guess it was the thought that counted,"

Brody nervously laughed, "Trust you to turn a nice story into a horror,"

I shrugged nonchalantly, "I guess it meant that we'd come here more, so I could look at the fish here rather than the battlefield in my own tank at home, I think my dad realised I was more of an observer than a participator."

"Remind me to never buy you a pet,"

I scooped a large fork of noodles, "I haven't even started with the story about when my dad brought me a rabbit," I shoved the noodles in my mouth and chewed.

"You've got a little," Brody gestured his hand towards my chin, "something something on your face,"

My cheeks flushed and I instantly flung my hand to my face, "What is it?"

"You've got a noodle stuck to your chin, see at least I'd tell you," He laughed reaching out and pulling the soy noodle off my skin. He had it in between his fingers, wiggling it in the air and I pulled a face in disgust. He let out a chuckle before placing it on the napkin beside him dusting his hands on his lap.

"Oh god," I palm, "Trust me to have noodles all over my face, how did I miss my mouth?"

He cocked a brow and a devious smirk spread across his face, "I don't know, it's big enough, especially for when you-"

"Does anyone want any more water?" The oblivious waiter smiled at us, interrupting Brody's profanities and I eagerly nodded my head.

I was extra thirsty after seeing that hungry look in Brody's eyes. I took the glass from his hand and chugged the contents, not even stopping to breathe.

They both watched me, wide-eyed as I drained the cup in a matter of seconds. The waiter forced a smile with his teeth as he took the cup from me, walking away with a shake of the head.

"You okay there?" Brody smirked in amusement and I felt my cheeks redden.

"You can't do that," I dramatically waved my hand, "We're in a public establishment,"

"Do what?" He breathed velvety smooth, leaning across the table and placing his hand on my thigh.

I felt my heart thump rapidly in my chest at his touch and proximity. His fingers caressed my exposed skin in a way that made my mind go blank.

"Do.. uh what," His hand moved further, goosebumps rising in his path, "You can't uh,"

"I can't what Ivy?" His voice was low and teasing, "Tell me what it is I can't do,"

"You can't-"

"Brody is that you?"

He retracted his hand instantly the playfulness draining from his face. He stared up at whoever it was behind me, recognition dawning on him and a small smile reached his lips. The type of smile I knew wasn't real.

My brow raised.

"Mona, how are you?" He said his lips held tightly together.

An older lady stepped forward into my line of sight. She was wearing a floral creamed dress with her hair in a slicked bun as her hands clutched onto her bag. I could see the hesitation in her face as her dark brown eyes stared at Brody.

My eyes flickered between the two like watching an awkward tennis match.

Who was this lady?

"I've been better," She laughed, the humour not reaching her eyes, "I didn't expect to see you here,"

"I'm on a date," He said flatly, "This is my girlfriend Ivy," He gestured towards me and she followed his movements, her soft eyes landing on me, the corners scrunching up as she smiled.

I shifted uncomfortably in my seat at the scrutiny and wiped my sweaty palms onto my lap. I glanced at Brody to find he didn't even notice my discomfort since his attention was solely on Mona.

"It's lovely to meet you, Ivy," And she sounded as if she genuinely meant it, "I'm Mona, an old friend of Brody's mom,"

"If that's what you call yourself," Brody snorted and her eyes shot towards him, her cheeks flushing in embarrassment.

"Brody," I hissed under my breath. I gave him a pointed look, which he ignored. I hated when he behaved like this. This wasn't the Brody I knew, he was better than this.

She let out another nervous laugh and looked at me, "Oh don't worry dear, Brody has always been a little hot-headed, his father is the same, you learn to not take it personally,"

"You'd know all about my father wouldn't you Mona?" He snorted and I watched her whole body tense, her hands wrapping tighter around her bag. She sucked in a deep breath and forced a smile.

"I didn't come over here to cause any trouble,"

"Why did you come over here exactly?" The sourness dripped off his tongue. I watched him in shock. This was his mother's friend, why was he being like this?

"I just uh came over to say I heard the news, it must be hard to hear but you should feel some sort of closure now they've got him,"

Brody blinked, his face not moving an inch, "I'm sorry what?"

Mona's eyes widened in realisation, "You don't know?"

"Know what?" He asked, his patience obviously wearing thin as his jaw clenched.

"They caught him," She said, "They caught the guy who killed your mother,"
