Song Above: Waiting For You Grizfolk

If you like this story then please check out my new story Me You And Winnie The Pooh! It needs all the love it can get! 😊🐻🍯

If Brody could have opened his mouth any wider he would have eaten the burger in one bite. He gulped it down and without pausing to breathe he took another bite bigger than before. He swallowed, licked his lips and grabbed a handful of fries and paused when he saw my face.

My nose wrinkled and I drew my head back, "Are you going to chew at any point?"

He nods and takes a large gulp of his soda, "Shopping makes me hungry,"

"You barely shopped, it was me who had to look around whilst you played candy crush,"

He rolled his eyes, "Why are you complaining? I thought girls liked this kind of stuff,"

I was very close to stabbing him in the eye with one of his fries.

"Funnily enough this isn't what I'd call fun,"

"You aren't a big shopper? You dress like you are," I guess there was a compliment somewhere.

"Nope, I get so bored and I feel like it's time-wasting, I'd rather order stuff online."

His lips curled up into a smirk, "But you got to spend time with me,"

I looked away and swallowed.

Touché Brody, touché.

"So let's have a look at what we've brought," He didn't react at my pathetic attempt of changing the subject whilst I rummaged through the shopping bags.

We'd settled for a few tops, a skirt and some pink Nike trainers. It was simple but enough for Rose to be happy.

"I'm not helping you wrap these, you can do that on your own-"

"What's it like to date my brother?"

I paused mid rummaged and slowly looked up to find Brody staring at me. A line had appeared between his brows and his lips were held in a thin line as he waited for my answer.

"Uh, um it's uh," I scrambled to find the right words. His question had caught me off guard.

What was it like to date Ryan?

"He's sweet and he is always good at the whole texting and calling and always walks me to class," I shrug, "Why do you ask?"

He leant back into his chair, "I just thought he was always a wet sock with girls,"

I burst out laughing. I'd never heard someone refer to someone else as a wet sock let alone their own brother.

"He is on the sensitive side," I tried to defend him but failed miserably.

A smile played on Brody's lips, "You're not helping," He looked around the room then looked back at me, "I think he gets it from his mom,"

"His mom?"

"Yeah, there's always something she's upset about, the woman needs to chill out,"

"I mean you are horrible to her," I point out.

His smile fades and he narrows his eyes at me, "I never say anything that she doesn't deserve,"

I suddenly feel uncomfortable from his shift in moods, "I mean I don't know your situation so I shouldn't really comment you know-"

He laughs and his face relaxes which cuts my rant short, "It's fine Ivy, I'm a dick sometimes."

"I mean at least we can agree on that,"  I muttered but it was loud enough for him to hear.

He cocked a brow and chucked a fry at me which I dodged, "Blame my dad, he's an even bigger dick, must be hereditary,"

"I can't imagine someone being an even bigger dick than you," I shook my head. His dad must be a walking, talking demon. I got the impression he wasn't the nicest of humans when I was at their dinner.

His stepmom had gone to great lengths to make a nice dinner and he couldn't even be bothered to show his face.

"It depends what kind of dick you are talking about," He waggled his eyebrows and I choked on my saliva. I took a large gulp of water and felt heat flush my cheeks.

The worst thing about this was that I'd seen it and I knew it wasn't all talk.

"Anyway, Ryan's okay I guess," He added oblivious to the fact that he'd put me into cardiac arrest or he knew but didn't react upon it, "I just never thought you'd be together,"

"Why?" I regained myself enough to ask him this question. Ryan and I weren't from completely different worlds. We had a lot of similarities.

"I don't know," He shrugged, "I just always thought you'd be with someone with a bit more balls,"

"More balls?"

"Yeah, I mean you aren't the type to take any shit, you definitely don't take mine, but I feel like you need someone to fight with, not someone who will roll over when you tell them to."

Was it just me or did it sound like he was talking about someone close to home? Or did I just hope he was?

"Ryan's nice," I trailed, playing with my straw and shifting in my seat. He wasn't completely wrong. I liked the way Ryan was so tentative and he wasn't unpredictable like someone else but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the fire.

"Yeah but nice doesn't cut it with you," His eyes were zeroed in on my face and flickered around soaking in my features. I couldn't tell what he was thinking and it drove me insane.

"Who do you think I should be with?" I breathed and summoned enough courage to meet his gaze.

His eyes focused on my lips for a lot longer than they should and he looked up his eyes a honeycomb whiskey colour that I wanted to drink. There was the static again, that crackling in the air that I felt whenever we were close.

Tell me it's you that I should be with. Tell me it's always been you. Tell me-

A baby cried in the distance whilst their mother tried to shush them and that was enough to break the spell.

"I don't know," He mumbled moving his gaze to the rest of his untouched food in front of him.

I tried to not show the disappointment in my face and the ache in my chest that wanted to see that look on his face again.

"Well I like Ryan and he's nice," I added even though the words soured in my mouth.

"Well isn't this cosy?"

We both looked up to find Charmaine or Charlotte or whatever her name was standing at the edge of our table. She had a smirk on her face that I wanted to wipe off and a hand full of shopping bags.

"Uh hi?" Brody said. He stared at her as if he had no idea who she was, which he probably didn't. Her eye twitched and her smirk widened in a crazy joker kind of way. Not cute at all.

Ivy -1- Charlotte -0-

"You seem to be with the wrong brother Ivy?"

This girl was looking to get fly kicked in the face.

"We're just shopping for Rose's birthday actually." I forced a smile on my face, the passive-aggressive kind and looked at Brody to find his expression bored.

"How sweet," She didn't think it was sweet at all the bitch, "I forgot you guys double date and all that,"

"Yep, that's what happens when you have friends,"

"Oh that really hurt," She faked a sad expression, "Where's Ryan?" She exaggerated looking around the canteen, even though she knew for a fact he wasn't here.

This girl was really starting to get on my last nerve.

"The important question is why are you here exactly?" Brody hadn't said anything during our exchange but I could tell he was getting increasingly more irritated by her presence.

Her false smile wavered for just a split second, "I just thought I'd pop over and say hi, did I interrupt anything? You guys looked pretty intense from where I was standing,"

"Do you usually stare at people from afar? Sounds a bit stalkerish," Brody leant back in his chair, crossed his arms over his chest and watched her squirm.

I'd felt the full brunt of Brody's dickish ways over the years, so I knew first hand how they felt. If Charlotte wasn't being a bish I'd feel sorry for her right now.

"I just Uh-I-"

"You are leaving?" He held a hand to his ear, "Oh great, it was nice seeing you,"

Her cheeks reddened and she became so flustered I thought she was going to wee herself. She looked at me, realised I wasn't going to help her, narrowed her eyes and walked off with her heels clipping against the ground.

"Who the hell was that?" Brody asked shaking his head as he watched her retreating frame.

"Oh some girl who goes to our school, I think she likes Ryan,"

"I guess the wet sock isn't such a wet sock after all,"
