Seagulls were flying through the air, and dolphins were jumping on a cloudy day as a ship was passing through the sea. Some sailors were fishing
Sailors:
I'll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue
And it's hey to the starboard, heave-ho
Look out lad a mermaid be waiting for you
In mysterious fathoms below
Among the sailors was a young man with hair of dark blue and stunning blue eyes. He was pulling up the sail and enjoying the feel of the wind in his hair. His name was Benni. And he wasn't alone. With him was a golden retriever named Barko.
"Ah, isn't this great?" said Benni. "The salty sea air, the wind blowing in your face. Perfect day to be at sea."
However, one man on this ship was not particularly enjoying this boat ride.
"Yes, delightful." groaned an older guy named Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was looking almost as green as the seaweed in the water.
And he barfed over the side of the ship
"It's a good day for sailing too," said a younger shipmate named Drake. "King Jango must be in a good mood today."
"King Jango?" said Benni.
"Ruler of the merfolk," said an older shipmate. "Woulda thought you'd know about him."
But Obi-Wan scoffed at this.
"Merfolk. That's just nautical nonsense."
"But it ain't nonsense!"
Fathoms below, below
From whence wayward westerlies blow
Where Jango is king and his merpeople sing
In mysterious fathoms below
Heave-ho
Heave-ho
Heave-ho, heave-ho, heave-ho
In mysterious fathoms below
And little did those sailors know just how real this so-called "nautical nonsense" was.

Under the sea was a beautiful kingdom called Koralmino, a land full of mermaids and mermen, and many other sea creatures.
Today was a very special day for the kingdom, as a big concert was taking place. But this was no ordinary concert; this one was going to be performed by none other than the royal children.
A well-dressed Quarren took out a conch shell he used like a megaphone.
"Announcing his royal majesty, King Jango!"
Sea trumpets were blown as the king arrived in his carriage pulled by beautiful dolphins.
"And the composer of tonight's music, Lama Su!"
And they were soon joined by a kaminoan, a long-necked kind of creature, named Lama Su.
Lama Su came up to a music stand, where he set out the sheet music, then picked up a baton, and conducted the orchestra to play music.
The kelp curtains rose, and on the show went.
All six of Jango's sons, the princes emerged on stage from six blue oysters. The four oldest sons had mainly red and black on their merman tails, each with a different symbol on it, the fifth had white and blue on his tail, and the youngest son's tail was blue all over.
Ah, we are the children of Jango
Great father who loves us and named us well
First Hunter
And each son took turns singing and showing off the uniqueness of his voice, from oldest to youngest.
Hunter: Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah
All:
Then Wrecker
Wrecker:
Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah
All:
And then Tech
Tech:
Ah-ah-ah
All:
And Crosshair
Crosshair:
Ah-ah-ah
All:
Then Echo
Echo:
Ah-ah-ah
All:
And Boba
Boba:
Ah-ah-ah
And for a big finish, a big pink oyster rose up with lots of beautiful undersea flowers.
All:
And then there is the youngest in her musical debut
Our only little sister, we're presenting her to you
To sing a song Lama Su wrote, her voice is like a bell
She's our sister, Ome—
But when the pink oyster opened, it was empty.
"OMEGA!" Jango shouted.
"Ugh, not again." Echo face-palmed.

Meanwhile, somewhere else in the sea, a young mermaid with long blonde hair and a tail orange like her swimsuit top was swimming around some old shipwrecks. Her name was Omega. She wasn't just a mermaid, though. She was a princess, hence the crown of little pink scallop shells around her head.
Omega was a very curious mermaid, but also the only girl in her family since her mom died when she was little. Due to her curious mind, Omega had a tendency to wander off, including times when something important was happening. So, as you might've guessed, missing her family's recital wasn't the first time she'd done this. But she wasn't alone.
With the young princess was a rare brown dolphin named Gonky. The dolphin chirped its unusual chirp. Gonky was unlike other dolphins, and not just because of his color. Unlike most dolphins, his chirping sounded a bit more like honking. Some said maybe he was defective, but Omega saw he was just a little different, like her, being the only girl in her family.
"Gonky, hurry up." said Omega.
After getting some hair, Gonky swam back down to catch up with his girl, and she pointed out a new shipwreck just waiting to be explored.
"Isn't it amazing?"
Gonky chirped nervously. As much as he loved Omega, he got nervous in dark places like the shipwrecks. Omega, however, liked daring to enter these wrecks, just dying to see what was in there.
"I'm going in. You watch for sharks, Gonky." Omega said, swimming through an open porthole.
Gonky chirped and swam guard around the ship.
Meanwhile, Omega was having the time of her life scouring the ship for any treasures she might find. Now, when divers looked for treasure in shipwrecks, they usually looked for things like pirate treasure. Gold, jewels, artifacts lost by famous captains from long ago. Omega, she looked for pretty much anything that came from the surface.
Omega wasn't sure why, but for as long as she could remember, she was fascinated by the surface area, where the bipeds lived, including humans. She knew she was a little like them, at least on her top half. Humans of the land, they had legs, not tails on their bottom halves. And Omega wanted to see everything, but since she had to stay in the water, she could only collect souvenirs from shipwrecks or stuff people dropped overboard. And the most fun part, she never knew what she would find.
Omega swam to the upper deck and looked around, and she saw something that really fascinated her. It was shiny and silvery, round on top, and attached to a little stick. Omega thought it looked like a tiny scepter... or.... A mirror, when she picked it up and saw her reflection in it.
"Wow! It's so pretty." Omega smiled. "I wonder what it is. Hmm.... maybe Estrella can tell me."
Estrella was a friend of Omega's. A secret friend who lived above the water. Estrella was very smart, and knew so much about the lands above.
Omega put the strange object in her bag and looked around for more, but didn't notice a shadow of something big and hungry outside the window of the captain's quarters. She looked around a dresser and found something made of gold that was tube shaped.
"Hmm. This is... weird." Omega thought out loud. "I wonder what humans use this...."
Omega paused when she noticed something from the corner of her eye, and she shrieked when she realized it was a great white shark.
The shark broke in through the glass of the window, and Omega swam for her young life as the shark tried to chomp her.
"GONKY!" Omega screamed.
The brown dolphin swam in and headbutted the shark in its stomach and chirped to tell Omega to swim the heck out of there! Omega swam as fast as she could to get out of that ship and away from the shipwrecks. Unfortunately, Gonky could only fight the shark for so long.
Omega looked back and gasped when she saw the shark swimming after her. She screamed and tried to swim faster, swimming around masts and old anchors to try and slow the shark down, but it didn't do much good... especially when Omega found herself cornered at another shop.
"Oh no!" Omega curled up in fright as the shark prepared to take a big bite out of her.
Then all of a sudden, someone big and strong rushed in and punched the shark. It was Wrecker!
"No one chomps my little sister!" Wrecker shouted. "You want a piece of me?!"
Wrecker roared and began to wrestle the shark while two other mermen, one with a red bandana in his hair and the other skinnier with glasses, grabbed Omega and began swimming away with her quickly.
"Omega! What were you thinking?!" Hunter scolded.
Crosshair jumped in to help Wrecker fight the shark by aiming some sharp shells on a slingshot made out of coral and hitting the shark in the gills to weaken it. And Wrecker eventually got the shark trapped by its head in an anchor.
"That'll teach ya, you big bully!" Wrecker stuck out his tongue and blew a raspberry at the shark, who retaliated with a chomp. Wrecker just laughed though. "How cute."
"Let's get you home before Dad starts to wonder where the rest of us are." Hunter said.
The six mer-princes all began swimming in a path, the youngest ones following in a current called a slipstream created by the eldest ones' tails, like how mother dolphins kept their babies behind them when they swam. Except, unlike dolphin babies, Omega didn't always follow the slipstream, and when her brothers weren't looking, she took the chance to swim up to the surface, where the sun was shining.
Eventually, the boys made it home.
"Alright, Omega. I think we really need to talk about-" Hunter stopped mid-sentence when he saw only five of his siblings were present. "Alright, where's Omega? Boba, wasn't she just beside you?"
"I thought she was with Tech." Boba said.
"I thought she was with Crosshair," said Tech.
"I thought she was with Echo." Crosshair said.
"I thought she was with Wrecker." Echo said.
"I thought she was with you." Wrecker said, pointing at the oldest brother.
"Oh, not again." Echo facepalmed.
As you can probably guess, looking after the youngest child, and the only daughter, was not an easy job for Omega's brothers. They knew almost nothing about women, much less young girls. They did know, however, that Omega was a curious young mermaid.
"Alright, men. Let's split up and look for her.... again." Hunter sighed.

Up at the surface, sitting on a rock was a lovely pink alicorn with a curly blue mane and a beautiful shooting star symbol on her side. One thing that got Estrella her name was that she loved to look at all the many stars in the sky, and in the daytime was when the day star known as the sun came out. Though it was too bright to see stars in the daylight, Estrella liked to bask in the sun and smell the freshness of the ocean breeze.
At the moment, Estrella was relaxing and watching some seagulls fly by through a pair of binoculars she found, when she heard a familiar voice calling her name, but it startled her into holding the binoculars the wrong way.
"Oh, mermaid off the port bow!" Estrella exclaimed. "Omega, Princesa. How are you?"
She took the binoculars off, only to see Omega was already right in front of her.
"Oh! What a fast swimmer you are," then she looked at her binoculars. "Or I was holding these wrong. Silly me."
"Estrella, look what we found." Omega said eagerly.
She took out her bag and opened it to show Estrella what she found.
"Gonky and I were at this shipwreck, and it was really creepy... and... oh, you should've seen it!"
"Another shipwreck, huh? Let me see."
Estrella stuck her muzzle into the bag and pulled out one of the objects Omega found with her mouth. First, the silver object.
"Oh, a common object to bipeds, but still muy bonito." Estrella said, holding the object with her magic to look at her reflection. "Mmm. Looking lovely, aren't we?"
Estrella tossed her mane back, liking what she saw, making Omega laugh.
"What is it?"
"This, Omega, is una cuchara."
"A cockroach?" Omega looked confused.
Estrella snorted a laugh.
"No, no, that's a cucaracha," said the alicorn.
Estrella spoke two languages of the lands above, and since she met Omega, she'd been teaching her to speak Spanish. At least that was one thing some bipeds did that Omega could learn since it didn't require legs.
"Una cuchara is a spoon." Estrella explained. "It's used for eating things. Things you scoop like this."
Estrella used the spoon to scoop up some sea water to demonstrate.
"But, since you probably don't have soup in the ocean, you can also use it as a shovel for digging things in the sand. It can be used for a lot of things, like prying things open, or even as a little mirror, as you already figured out."
"Wow..." gasped Omega.
Omega held her spoon again and tried to imagine all the possibilities for it. Maybe she could use it to dig for more human stuff that might be buried in the sand.
"What about this thing?" Omega asked, pulling out the gold object.
Estrella took a good look at it.
"Ah... a whistle."
"I thought this was a whistle." Omega put two fingers in her mouth and whistled.
"Si, a whistle is a sound. But, not all bipeds can do it with their mouths like you can. This tool helps them to do it, especially when they need to do it loudly. All you have to do is blow into this end."
Estrella blew into the whistle, but instead of a sound coming out of it, sand and a bit of kelp spurt out, making Omega laugh.
"Huh. Looks like it's a little clogged." Estrella chuckled. "Oh, but you should've seen when my old friend Comedia pranked one of the musicians by filling his tuba with mashed potatoes. What a mess!"
That had Omega gasping though.
"Music?! The concert!" Omega scolded herself. "I can't believe I forgot it was today! Dad's gonna kill me!"
Quickly, Omega put her things into her purse, thanked Estrella for her time, and immediately dove back into the water and began swimming home with Gonky. But, she didn't notice a couple of other mermaids watching her. One was very pale with short bleach hair and a blue tail, and the other had long dark hair and had a tail of purple. Each of them wore a necklace with a sand dollar charm colored to look like an eye, and it showed the image of Omega and Gonky to someone in a cave deep within the darkest parts of the ocean.

"Yes, swim, little princess. You wouldn't want to miss Daddy's celebration now, would you? Ha! Celebration, indeed. Oh, bah!" said a woman's voice, a manicured hand picking up a tiny shrimp to eat. "In my day, we had fantastical feasts, when I lived in the palace. And now look at me, wasted away to practically nothing. Banished and exiled and practically starving while he and his flimsy fish folk celebrate."
And in this dark cave lived another mermaid, except, unlike the mermaid you may know, this one had tentacles at her bottom half. Her name was Arla, and believe or not, she was King Jango's older sister.
A long time ago, she was the heir to the throne, and once upon a time, she and her brother were close... until something terrible happened that caused them to grow apart, and the two fought for the throne, and when Arla tried to take her brother down, he banished her to the darkest parts of the sea with no one but two other banished mermaids, Ventress and Fennec, to keep her company.
"I'll give them something to celebrate alright," said Arla. "Ventress! Fennec! I want you to keep an extra close eye on this pretty little daughter of his. She may be the key to Jango's undoing."
