Once Upon a Time

For those of you who've read my Jedi Storytime series, I know I've done an Aladdin based story before, and I am working on Bad Batch Tales stories that take on the plots of Disney movies I have previously done for Jedi Storytimes.

Rest assured though, they will be totally different, and hopefully very enjoyable too.

Call it running out of ideas if you want, but writing is rewriting, and who says I can't write different versions of a story? Especially when you can't decide which you like best.

Indira and Hunter were a real dream couple, one unlike most you might've imagined. One half was a defective clone with heightened senses, and the other was a princess who escaped a forced marriage to an abusive pervert and turned into a pegasus to be raised by a kind equine couple.

Indira still remembered when she first gained her crush on Hunter.

When Indira first arrived, she took one look at Hunter and could swear his luscious locks were blowing in the wind as though he were trying to attract her. But she'd shaken it off at the time, and then she felt something else a few months later during the family's trip to Lokohi-Hana, she'd looked at Hunter when he didn't have his shirt on, and then she was really attracted to him. That's not to say she wasn't just interested in his appearance, even if Hunter did have impressive abs and beautiful hair. Indira knew quite a few words of wisdom, or as Crosshair called it, "Fortune cookie talk," and among the things her mother Sarmi told her, Indira reminded herself, "A siren's song makes a call, but not one of love. A moth follows light, but often gets burned. But a good archaeologist knows that the truest treasure is hidden deep within."

In other words, Indira knew the difference between loving someone and just being attracted to them. The way Indira learned, giving into attraction more often than not led to trouble, but when you truly love someone, you make the effort to connect with them, as well as communicate and compromise. The three C's of love.

Indira knew from her parents' marriage what love was. You see, Indira's parents came from a clan in Equinaro that was known to practice arranged marriages. Initially, her parents were set up in arranged marriages, but to other ponies. Except, the two of them met one day when they both started working in the palace.

Jalebi Ghoda was a royal guard, and his family expected him to wed a lovely unicorn from a high society family because according to their math, he could provide her protection. Plus, the marriage into her family would elevate Jalebi's family's status. Sarmi Bakshi, on the other hoof, came from a very wealthy family, and her parents set her up with another wealthy family's son. But then, Sarmi and Jalebi met by chance.

At first, neither thought much of it, but when Jalebi had some struggling students in guard training, Sarmi stepped in and helped him to get the recruits' attention and improve their focus. As time went by, Jalebi and Sarmi spent time together getting better acquainted and falling in love. Unfortunately, neither of their family's would have them falling for anyone but their betrotheds. The options were these: either marry the spouses of their parents' choices, or never speak to their families again. But, both Sarmi and Jalebi saw a third option. And so, on the day of their weddings, which happened to fall on the same day, both of them did the same thing Indira did to get away from Aghati: run!

Like in a romantic comedy or something, Jalebi and Sarmi ran away together, both of them in their wedding attire. After running for what must have been hours, they stopped to catch their breath and laugh for a bit, and underneath an apple tree was where Jalebi officially asked Sarmi to be his wife, and together they went to the first chapel that would have them, where they officially got married. Earlier that very day, their parents had told each of them, "You are getting married today, and that's final!" Well, they were right. They did, and they were so happy together. They tried many times, but didn't have any luck having a foal of their own, but then Indira entered their lives. Neither of them minded that she was a human at first; they took it as a sign they were meant to take on a challenge of caring for a child who was a little... different from the rest. Anyone can conceive a child, but it takes a special someone to be a parent.

So like a lovely lotus flower, it took time for Indira's love to grow for all of her friends, especially when she realized she felt a connection with Hunter. She had to make sure she knew if it was attraction or love before she blindly pursued it.

Hunter had so many other great features, which Indira got to know over the time she'd been with him. He cared for his team, he was brave, strong, and when he helped cook lunch while babysitting the kids once, Indira was quick to point out that Hunter had a hidden talent. Then came the night when Indira and all the other horses were transformed into humans, where Hunter and Indira danced together like a princess with Prince Charming.

Hunter couldn't explain it, but when he saw Indira in her human form for the first time, his feelings spiked. He loved her before, even after learning she was originally a human, but he loved her as family, and didn't think they'd be a couple. He never even gave much thought to finding a bride even though he'd caught Mila's bouquet at her and Tech's wedding. But then, as they danced Hunter found himself leaning in for a kiss, only to be interrupted by Indira's crazy ex-fiancé Aghati who kidnapped the other horses and Goldie before Indira decided to fight instead of running anymore. But when Aghati saw Indira and Hunter about to kiss again when the others were rescued, he tried to cast a spell to eliminate Hunter. But Indira quickly grabbed one of Aghati's swords and deflected the spell at him at the last second, saving Hunter's life.

It was pretty hard for Hunter not to be madly in love with a girl who risked life and limb to save their friends and him too, especially with how deadly the man was. And like a lot of fairy tales, that story ended with a royal wedding and, of course, true love's kiss.

Indira sighed happily as she was in the middle of a makeout session with her husband. Her arms were wrapped around his neck as she pulled him deeper into the kissing.

Hunter never tired of kissing his beautiful wife. Since they got married, it became a tradition for them to have a special makeout session after a successful mission. Brother-sister duo Wrecker and Omega had their tradition of sharing Mantell Mix after a mission. So, now Hunter had a special tradition with a special woman who wasn't related to him, and he loved it, especially when they continued at home and things got a little hotter.

A few smooches later, Hunter stopped to glance into Indira's beautiful golden brown eyes

"No matter the mission," sighed Hunter. "Getting a night alone with you is always worth it."

"For someone who's never had a girl in his life," said Indira. "You're a talented kisser."

"Maybe because I have the perfect girl to practice with."

"In that case, you might need a little more."

And Indira kissed her husband again.

Hunter and Indira held each other close and kissed some more as they cuddled underneath the blankets that night when they got home.

"You know, Indy. It's crazy." Hunter said. "I've dealt with some crazy missions, but marriage was not one I expected."

Indira nuzzled Hunter. No matter which form she was in, she was always the affectionate girl she was.

"What about fatherhood?" Indira asked.

Hunter's eyes went wide.

"Indira, are you-?"

"No! No, relax. I'm not pregnant. Unless tonight was what it took."

Hunter sighed, but not with relief, more like sorta relieved with a hint of disappointment.

"Hunter, do you not want to have a family?"

"It's not that. But, ever since we got married, I've been thinking... parenthood is one of few things I never trained for. I'm not sure I'd be good at it."

Indira had to stifle a laugh.

"Hunter, I'd say you're more than trained for it."

"How exactly?"

Indira went on to list all the ways Hunter trained for parenthood. For one thing, he had to make sure Wrecker made it out of trouble alive, and often had to clean up after him since before meeting the royal family. He'd also taken good care of Indira back when she only stayed in pegasus form. Plus, he'd helped babysit the kids many times, and Mona loved him especially.

"I'd say you've got the makings of a future father. Besides, you wouldn't be doing it alone." Indira said. "Parenting is typically a two-person job."

Hunter felt a little reassured. He definitely believed Indira would be a wonderful mother someday; she was raised by two very loving adoptive parents after all. The tricky part would be knowing how to take care of their baby because they weren't sure if Indira would be pregnant for nine or eleven months, and they weren't sure if the baby would have the same abilities as Indira, or be born either a human or a pegasus. But Hunter and Indira did know one thing for sure: they would love their future baby no matter what.

"Kids, settle down! Ow!" Hunter shouted as Luke began pulling his hair. "Luke, stop that."

Currently, Hunter was getting more practice with looking after kids. The other grownups were away right now.

Anakin and Padme were visiting Obi-Wan and Satine for a conference on Mandalore, Qui-Gon and Shmi were overseeing production on developing the vegetation and reconstruction of Solaris' various villages before people moved in, Kara was on a date with Elliot, Carmine and Caroline were giving some Jedi younglings music lessons, and all the other Batchers were doing other things too.

Tech and Mila were visiting her family and Wrecker went with them (probably to try and get Mila's cousin Isabela's attention), and Crosshair was taking Maybelle for a ride, leaving Hunter and Indira alone with the kids.

"Omega, it's my turn with the rope!" Gabby grunted, currently in a tug of war with Omega over a jump rope.

"You had it last time!" Omega said.

"Girls, don't fight." Indira said, taking on pegasus form, grabbing the rope with her mouth and flying to get the two girls to let go. "If you can't share, the toy gets snared."

Meanwhile, Boba was looking for Lamenta, who was playing Invisible Keep Away with his lion Fuzzy.

"Lamenta, come on! This isn't funny anymore."

"Come and get it!" Lamenta sang, holding Fuzzy above the couch, the girl still invisible.

Boba leaped over the couch to try and grab his plush, but only landed on the floor, just barely missing Goldie.

"Hey. Watch where you're jumping!"

"Alright, everyone, stop the roughhousing!" Hunter shouted, but the kids didn't seem to listen.

Mona was the only kid not roughhousing. She wanted to be close to Hunter.

Maybe Indira was right about me being trained for parenthood. Hunter thought. Now if only he could get the other kids to sit still long enough for him to actually relax.

Indira whistled; that made the kids freeze in place.

"Huh. I shoulda tried that first." Hunter said.

"I think now's a good time for some practice parenting, Hunter." Indira said.

Hunter sighed; of course Indira would rather use crises as lesson opportunities than do the work for him. So, Hunter thought of something.

"Kids, I know you're all excited, but it's time to stop roughhousing now because..." Hunter thought about what the kids' parents normally did to make them sit still. "I'm gonna tell you all a story."

"What kind of story?" Mona asked.

Hunter thought again and said, "A story about a princess... who falls in love with someone of a different world than hers."

"Haven't we heard that story before?" Boba asked.

"Not the version I know." Hunter said.

Hunter got all the kids to sit down so he and Indira could tell them a story.

"This story begins a long time ago in a desert far away."
