Betrayed
'Tech is an idiot'. Crosshair decided as he got the rest of his gym clothes on. 'He can't even tell what's going on. Not saying that's a bad thing, but still.' His phone beeped. He looked to see who was texting him, and was surprised to see that his friend from summer camp, Mayday, was calling. He answered it gleefully. "Mayday! What's up?"
"Hey Cross! Dude! How's school?"
Crosshair chuckled. "It's alright. I guess. Could be better." Hunter glanced over at Crosshair. "Uh... Cross?... who are you talking to...?" Crosshair felt a flash of defiance. "His name is Mayday, he was my cabin mate in summer camp!"
"Alright, no need to get all indignant." Hunter said.
"I'm not indignant!" Crosshair huffed indignantly.
Tarkin wobbled over to them and snorted. "Having a fight, Dork and Stupid?" Ms. Cid always called Hunter; Dark and Brooding. Tarkin called him Dork and Stupid. Hunter groaned. "Go away Tarkin." Tarkin smiled sweetly. "Oh, but Crossie wants me here, right Cross?" Crosshair felt a flash of panic. "Derh..." On the phone, Mayday said: "Is that Tarkin? Boy, can I come to your school Cross?"
Hunter narrowed his eyes. "What's going on?!" Crosshair gulped. "N-nothing..."
Tech ran over. "You have 5.99 seconds to tell us what's going on." Tarkin pursed his lips. "Oh, didn't he tell you? Over summer, we became friends. You should have heard everything he said about you."
Hunter stood there; shocked and angry. "You could have told us that Crosshair."
Crosshair flinched. Hunter sounded angry. "I can explain-"
"No. You don't have to." And with that, Hunter grabbed Tech's arm, and dragged him away.
For the rest of gym, Crosshair tried not to think too much about what happened with Hunter and Tech. But that was near impossible, since they were in all of his classes. Eventually, he saw Wrecker shoot him a dirty look, and Echo looked sad, and betrayed. He tried to talk to them, but every time he tried; they ignored him, or told him to go away. At lunch, Crosshair sat with Tarkin, Thrawn, Pryce, and Rampart. He tried to not feel upset about his friends dumping him. Hunter was gone. Tech was gone. Wrecker was gone. Echo was gone.
"I don't know why you bothered with those... clones anyway! They were a colossal waste of time!" Rampart exclaimed. Crosshair stabbed his "meatloaf product". He had gotten cafeteria lunch, and was gnawing on it. Thrawn looked across the cafeteria at them. "I must admit; they are... interesting clones."
Crosshair ignored him. He didn't need some guy he met over the summer to take interest in his former friends.
Wrecker was shocked. Crosshair had just dumped them for the school bullies. He felt himself tearing up. Immediately; Echo, Hunter, Tech, and Phee all hugged him. He couldn't handle it anymore. He burst into tears. "H-he's gone!" He sobbed. Hunter rubbed his back, comfortingly. "Shh, shh, it's okay big guy."
Tech looked across the room at Crosshair, who was sitting with Tarkin and his lackeys. "He's not even upset about this!"
"We don't need him." Hunter growled. Everyone turned to look at him. Hunter had the deepest connection with Crosshair. They loved each other. Not as lovers, but as brothers.
Wrecker sobbed on the table, Tech rubbed his back, murmuring to him. "It's okay..." Wrecker sniffled. "But h-he's g-g-g-gone!"
"I know buddy, I know..." Tech said. "It'll be all right... I promise..." But a tiny voice in Wrecker's head, went; "No it won't. How can it?" But all he said was: "Okay. Sure. Everything will be okay."
