INCOMING CALL FROM 'RAINBOW'
ACCEPT OR DECLINE
[ groggily yawns ]
"Hello?"
"Hi, Thomas."
[ words are slurred with the sound of soft rock music in the background. ]
"Rainbow, it's 1:15 in the morning. Where are you?"
[ chuckles quietly as he sits up in bed ]
"The only decent bar near my place. It doesn't close till like- 2 or somethin."
[ stares at the bottom of her bourbon glass, dragging her finger around the edge aimlessly ]
"Oh,"
[ clears throat and rubs eyes, trying to get himself awake ]
"Why did you call me?"
[ hums along to the song playing and shrugs ]
"I don't-"
[ sighs deeply as she runs her hand through her hair]
"I-I don't know. For some reason you were the first person I thought of."
[ feels himself smile before swinging his legs over the bed and shifts his phone to the other ear ]
"What's on your mind?"
[ stays silent for a moment, the music faintly playing in the background ]
"Alexandra Gwendolyn Payne."
[ speaks quietly, the pain loud and clear in her tone as she asks for another drink from the bartender ]
"And who's that?"
[ asks carefully, unsure if he's treading in dangerous waters ]
[ says in a soft, nearly inaudible voice ]
"My d-dead fiancee,"
[ tears begin to cloud Rainbow's vision, making her take a large gulp of her drink and exhale shakily ]
"..."
[ stays quiet, putting his hand over his mouth and then pulling his hand away in surprise ]
"What bar is this?"
[ is too busy chugging her drink to hear Tom, ordering another as feels herself get more intoxicated and numb as the pain slowly seeps away ]
"You know,"
[ her words are more slurred than before ]
"It's my fault she's gone."
"Don't say that, love."
[ stands up from his bed and slips on a shirt scattered on the floor then walks around his apartment ]
"We had a fight, a really bad, stupid fight before she died."
[ frowns at how sad she is feeling, so orders another drink ]
"About what?"
[ is looking for his keys in his living room, shoving his hand in between the cracks of the couch ]
"She was suffering from- you know, depression,"
[ takes a long sip of her drunk before continuing ]
"and I wanted to get her help, like any good fiancee would."
"You're a good person Rainbow,"
[ pauses until he finds his keys in a bowl near the door ]
"never forget that."
[ ignores what he says and continues on to speak ]
"And she said she didn't want any, saying that she was fine. But- but I told her that she wasn't. And when she wasn't happy, neither was I."
[ sighs softly as he shuts and locks the door behind him, making his way to his car ]
"You don't have to-"
[ interrupts him, not really caring about what he's saying ]
"It escalated, words that neither one of us meant were said."
[ clears her throat, blinking away tears as she takes another shot of vodka ]
"Next day, I wake up to the bathroom door being locked... and she's just laying there. Bottles of pills... just- there. Around her body. A-And she wouldn't respond."
[ takes in a deep inhale and shuts his eyes, stopping his car in the middle of the street, feeling his heart break at the sound of her soft and muffled sobs ]
"Rainbow..."
[ sniffles loudly, a small hiccup leaving her lips as she harshly wipes her eyes ]
"..."
"..."
[ calms down after a while, clearing her throat ]
"I-I'm sorry for being mean to you. You just... you just- you remind me a lot of her."
"It's okay,"
[ his voice quiet and sincere as he drives down the road, his phone in the cupholder and on speaker ]
"I'm serious,"
[ looks down at her empty shot glasses and sighs, ordering some water ]
"I'm a real bitch because I don't know how to let people in anymore."
[ parks his car and leans back in his seat as he unbuckles his seat belt ]
"I understand, Rainbow."
[ gets out of his car, walking into the bar ]
"I wish you were here..."
[ sighs deeply, rubbing her forehead with her free hand ]
[ politely moves past people before finding Rainbow, by her curly and puffy dark hair, and slowly approaches ]
"Turn around."
[ furrows eyebrows in confusion, but slowly turns around, her red, puffy eyes widening and her mouth opening slightly as he finds Tom standing there with a soft grin ]
"Oh my god,"
☆☆☆
I made myself emo with this chapter I'm sorry.
But at least it shows the character growth of Rainbow and the growth of her and Tom's relationship.
And yo, I made a Sebastian Stan fic if anyone cares lol. It's called "Stuck With You" and it's basically about a girl who gets stuck in an elevator with Sebastian Stan.
