Kona
After a long day of work, a large male orc slipped into his home in the dead of the night. Embracing his wife who sat by the fire.
"We have many fine children my dear, This one will be our last," she said, placing a hand on her stomach and the male orc smiled, placing his hand on top of hers.
"They will bring honor to our family," he said gruffly.
Day passed since that night, many priests visited since then, checking on the female orc who had gone into labor while her mate was out working. When he returned, a loud and sudden cry startled him and he rushed inside. There in the priests arms was a small orc, crying and squirming.
"She has a fine set of lungs, congratulations," the priest said as they wrapped the infant in cloth.
"She" The word echoed in the male orc's ears for a moment before he had the strength to walk over to his mate.
"We had a daughter," he said softly and his mate smiled brightly at him.
"Her name is Braikona, my little fighter," she said softly, taking the infant from the priest who bowed and left.
"Why do you say that ?" the male orc asked and the female's smile faded.
"She almost didn't make it, the cord got wrapped around her neck and she also died," She said, clutching her baby close.
Soon the news reached their seven sons who visited to see their new sibling. The eldest arriving first. His large build scaring the animals near the hut, his large ax dragging behind him.
"Greetings father," He said before hugging the male orc.
"Good you arrived to meet your sister," The father scoffed, making the eldest sigh.
"You have seven healthy and successful sons, a daughter won't kill you father," the eldest scoffed before looking over his shoulder to see three orcs approaching.
"The triplets are here," he muttered as the three greeted their father before roughhousing.
"Boys, come now, you must be exhausted after your journey, come let's eat," Their mother, a very well dressed shaman called while their father, a veteran warrior smiled and waved to her.
"We'll be there soon," he called and the female retreated back inside the hut.
As the days went on, brothers came and went but the eldest stayed, caring for his little sister. And one night while they ate the father, taking note of the eldest not leaving. Decided to ask.
"Why haven't you left and gone back to your commander ?" he asked, not looking up from his meal.
"Well," the eldest hesitated and swallowed nervously.
"I was discharged," he said and his father choked a bit but his mother looked calm and gently grabbed her son's hand.
"What did you do?" His father asked sternly.
"I didn't follow orders to kill a human woman and her child,"
"Why didn't you kill them ?" His father growled deeply.
"She reminded me of mother, her son clinging to her as his life depended on it, I couldn't find the strength to kill them so I let them flee," The eldest responded and his father struck him.
"You knew your orders to kill them but you instead let the filth live ?!" he growled and the eldest stood his ground.
"They are no less than us father," he responded before getting up.
"I'll be taking my leave now," he got up, grabbed his ax and left.
Months and soon years passed since that day. When Braikona came of age her father made sure to talk to the trainers to find what his daughter could do for the horde. Braikona messed up her hair than fixed it a few times, the red strands untangling gracefully before she scoffed.
"Braikona, come here little one," Her mother called and the young orc ran from her room to her mother.
"What do you need ?" she asked, then seeing her father she flinched and stood close to her mother.
"You're going to go with your father to go start your training," she said and the young orc looked at her mother.
"Alright," she nervously tapped her tusks for a moment before her mother gently hit her hand.
"What have I said about doing that ?" she asked calmly and Braikona sighed.
"Don't and that it could damage my tusks," she said softly before her mother smiled.
Gently pushing her to her father and seeing them off. As they walked Braikona's father was oddly quiet which worried the young girl. When they reached the trainers she was drawn to the swords and axes of the warriors. Her father scoffed when he noticed her looking.
"You're too weak for that, the arcane arts seems better for you," he said, gesturing to the mages. Braikona blinked a few times, losing interest in the spells, her attention going to the warriors again.
"Braikona, stop gawking and pick one," her father growled and when she opened her mouth a young troll bumped into her and knocked her over.
"See, you're too weak to be a warrior or paladin, a warlock or mage will work better for you," her father hissed as she looked at the young troll, noticing they carried an egg.
The troll checked the egg, looked at Braikona before smiling slightly then ran off.
"Or a hunter... no, you won't form a bond with any beast," she heard her father growl.
Unfazed by his remarks now she got up and went over to the warrior trainer.
"Lok-tar little one," the trainer said and Braikona smiled.
"Lok-tar, my father says I'm too weak to be a warrior, but won't the training help ?" she asked and the trainer smiled.
"Of course little one, your father just underestimates you," he responded and gestured to the female warriors who clashed with their swords and axes, both growling and doing a decent amount of damage to the males the fought.
She smiled a bit, but before she could say anything else her father pulled her away.
"What did I tell you ?" he growled, and she shrunk under his harsh gaze.
"I'm too weak to be a warrior," she muttered and he nodded.
The trainer turned to talk to a warrior brandishing a large ax.
He looked over and approached the two and pulled Braikona from her father. Many guards looking over at the scene that was starting. Braikona looked up at the orc keeping her close. His red hair was barely visible under his helm. Her father scoffed and crossed his arms.
"We're going home Braikona, now," He hissed and the male keeping her close shook his head.
"No, she's coming with me to train," the male responded.
"Mandrics, I thought you weren't allowed to be here !" the father yelled and Mandrics laughed.
"I'm going to protect my little sister, even if it means I kill you," He said and Braikona gripped her eldest brother's hand.
After a moment her father left and she started her training soon after. Years passed as she excelled in her training and soon was able to leave her brother and family behind to start her journey.
"Thank you brother, you helped me so much... I wish I could help you but I'm needed," Braikona said, moving her hair from her face and smiling.
Her tusks were visible more than usual and Mandrics laughed and messed her hair up.
"Bring honor to your name and don't forget Bin mog g'thazag cha (I will protect you)," he smiled and she smiled back.
"When I return I'll be the one protecting you," she joked before mounting a worg (Large wolf mount, mainly used by orcs) She smiled to her brother one more time before making her way to the farthest horde camp to report to her commander. Unaware of the troubles that would arise and the people she would come to trust on enemy lines.
