IT HAD BEEN A FEW DAYS SINCE OUTER BANKS HAD DROPPED AND THE RESPONSE FROM EVERYONE HAD BEEN INSANE, SO INSANE THAT IT WAS ALMOST OVERWHELMING. None of the cast had expected the show to blow up like it had, to be number one on Netflix in multiple countries and to have everyone on each social media platform to be talking about it. And not only had the show been getting a lot of attention, so had all of the cast. Followers across everyone's social media platforms had massively increased and people were talking about them, a lot. Digging into their lives, trying to find out anything they could about them and it was safe to say that some of them weren't used to it and were feeling a little weird about it.

Even Sydney was feeling overwhelmed by the sudden invasion of privacy. Although she'd done more things than the others, having already done a Netflix original and Euphoria, she wasn't used to people digging into her life like that. She had managed to stay in the background a lot. But Sydney knew that it was the end of staying in the background. Sydney had probably been getting the most attention from the show, which she thought was only because she had done Euphoria, but a lot of it was down to how much people loved her character on the show. And her relationship with another character. Although everyone was giving everyone on the cast a lot of attention, along with their characters, people were going crazy over Juliet and JJ. Edits were already being made, fan accounts were popping up everywhere and Sydney and Rudy's instagram comments were being flooded with people talking about them.

Which was completely fine, Sydney had actually thought it was really sweet that people loved their characters and the story they had created. But with that came everyone wanting to know everything about the actors that played those characters. And the easiest way to do that was to watch the interviews the cast had made the month before. Madison had already informed Sydney of the responses to the interviews, which Sydney had then seen for herself and the consequences of that. People were now flooding Sydney's instagram comments with questions about her and Rudy. Sydney didn't even want to check if Rudy had been getting the same type of comments as she was, but she didn't need to. Rudy had spoken to her about it before she could check.

Sydney was sitting on her roof, alone, when Rudy had gone to find her. She had been sitting with Madelyn, both sunbathing, but the girl had gone back inside to make them both drinks and had then been distracted by Chase and Drew who were playing Mario Kart in the living room. So Rudy took that opportunity to go and talk to Sydney while she was alone.

"Hey." Rudy had almost frightened Sydney, who had been sitting in silence while she scrolled through twitter on her phone.

"Hi." Sydney quickly replied, smiling and moving over to let Rudy sit down beside her.

Rudy reciprocated her smile. "You good?"

Sydney hummed in response. "Was just on twitter, reading what everyone was saying about the show." She had then told him, leaving out details on what exactly she was reading.

"All good things I hope." Rudy had laughed, playfully nudging his shoulder against her own.

"Mostly." Sydney grinned, laughing too.

The laughter had then suddenly stopped and Rudy was breathing in deeply. "So I was on twitter earlier. A lot of people were talking about us." He had to just rip the bandaid off.

"I was aware." Sydney told him, nodding her head and averting her eyes away from him. "Madison told me people were talking, a lot." She then added.

"About the interviews."

"Yeah." Sydney had nodded but still hadn't looked back at Rudy. Why were they both being so awkward about this?

"Weird, right?" As soon as the words had left Rudy's mouth he was regretting it. Poor choice of words and he knew that by the look on Sydney's face when he'd said it.

Sydney had coughed awkwardly before finally looking back towards Rudy. "Yeah, weird." They were definitely not the words she had wanted to hear. "But you know how people are, they do it with everyone." It was expected from fans, that was what Sydney had meant by her words. "Two people are really good friends, are comfortable around each other and it immediately means they're dating."

"Right." Rudy knew what she had meant. "And we're just friends, which we can tell people. And if they choose not to believe us then that's up to them." He then added, again regretting his choice of words almost immediately. He hadn't meant to stick Sydney in the friend-zone like that, it was the last thing he had wanted to do actually. But it was not the time to confess any feelings he had towards Sydney.

Rudy had probably realised he'd gained feelings for Sydney again for a while now. At least a few months before she had. Maybe since the start of the year, when the two had become friends again after the whole roadtrip issue. He'd realised why he'd been so angry with her that day and why he'd then been so upset when she didn't accept his apology. And he'd been so relieved when she'd turned up to his apartment that day to amend things. After then he knew for sure that he had feelings for her again, it wasn't something new and different so he knew straight away.

Sydney had almost felt like someone had kicked her in the chest when she'd realised what Rudy had said. Just friends. But she didn't think they needed to tell anyone that. "We don't owe anyone an explanation." If people were assuming things from their innocent touches and friendly flirting in their interviews then that was there problem and it had nothing to do with Sydney and Rudy. But that was just Sydney's opinion.

"No, I know." Rudy hadn't meant for his words to come across the way they had. He knew they didn't owe anyone an explanation. But he was worried if people asked. "I just mean if people ask in interviews." Although everyone was stuck at home, interviews were still scheduled for the cast, just over skype and zoom calls.

"Right." Sydney agreed. People were no doubt going to mention it in interviews.

"And we don't have to tell anyone about us." Rudy knew that they couldn't tell people about their past. "About how we dated before." He said, studying Sydney's face.

And thankfully, she didn't react in a negative way to his words. "No, you're right. We shouldn't. It would get too complicated, people wouldn't understand it and would just make things up." Sydney knew they couldn't even mention that they had a past to the public. No one would understand and everyone would be jumping to conclusions, making stories up about them, twisting the truth. And no one knew the full absolute truth about the situation other than Sydney and Rudy.

"Yeah, exactly." And still, after they'd come to the same conclusion, it was still awkward.

Sydney had nodded and pursed her lips before speaking. "Well, I'm glad we spoke about it so we're on the same page." She forced a smile onto her face, pretending to be pleased with their conversation but in reality, she was far from it.

"Yeah." Rudy nodded and forced out a smile too.

And then an awkward silence took over them and Sydney had never wanted to leave a situation as much as she did then. But thankfully, Madelyn had returned less than a minute later and had saved them from the awkwardness. Not without noticing it herself first.
