Chapter 10
KORNELIA
It has been more than a week since our last conversation with Arthur, and each of these days has been to hard for me. I tried to keep myself busy with anything. Work, the upcoming exhibition, even preparations for the wedding. But despite this, as soon as I was alone with my thoughts for even a minute, I immediately returned to him.
I thought a lot about what he said to me that day. I had mixed feelings and ambivalent thoughts. I kept replaying every word in my head, trying to find the slightest clue to doubt his sincerity. But all the searches were in vain. I believed him, I believed every word he said.
Just like the first time, he burst into my quiet life quickly and without regrets, turning everything upside down. It was so difficult, but I felt right with him. But am I ready to go through it again? I couldn't find the answer to this question in my head or in my heart.
Adam went into the bedroom and headed towards the wardrobe. He took a suitcase from the top shelf and began to pack his things carefully but quickly enough.
"Where are you going?" - I asked, leaning against the doorway and crossing my arms over the chest.
"Urgent business trip, flight in two hours," - Adam said, not looking up at me.
"And when will you be back?" - I asked, already feeling the catch in this whole situation.
"I think it will take at least a week, maybe a little more," - Adam replied calmly, but his words penetrated me, causing doubt.
"A week?" - I shouted, not expecting it myself, "But my exhibition will be in three days."
Adam stopped for a moment, he slowly turned his head towards me. Anger flashed in his eyes and his brows furrowed. "I mean our exhibition," - I corrected myself and stared at the floor in embarrassment.
Adam closed his suitcase and came closer to me. "I'm sorry, but I have to go," - he quickly kissed me on the cheek and left the bedroom, slamming the door behind.
...
I entered the gallery, shrouded in an atmosphere of tension and expectation. A lot of people have already gathered here. The gallery swayed with a lot of talk and laughter, music whispered in soft notes in the air.
Making my way deep into the crowd, my eyes were attracted to the bright colors and shapes on canvases and sculptures. I was surrounded by young and famous artists and sculptors, photographers, journalists, critics, businessmen and founders. The glare of the cameras and the overflowing energy created a unique atmosphere.
Under the eyes and ratings of the audience, I received praise and compliments for the work I had done. The pursuit of perfection and endless hours proved to be justified. I admired the beauty and details of each work, and also watched how they excitingly intertwined with the admiration and screams of delight of the audience.
Suddenly my gaze stopped on a figure that was standing in the corner of the room all alone. He watched people closely, but never took part in conversations. This man almost merged with his surroundings, but his presence did not go unnoticed. It was Arthur.
He was leaning slightly against the wall. His hands were in the pockets of a classic black suit that fit him perfectly. The top buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned, and his hair was slightly tousled, which made his image even more attractive.
As if he felt my gaze on him, he looked in my direction. Arthur smiled at me with his charming smile, and then looked away again, continuing to watch the crowd. I felt an irresistible urge to approach him.
"Hey!" - I said and stood next to Arthur, also leaning slightly against the wall. He was silent for a while.
"You did it!" - there was undisguised pride in his voice. A smile appeared on my face.
"You know, I'm glad you're here," - I looked at Arthur and there was doubt in my voice about the relevance of my words.
"I would never have missed it, because I know how important it is to you," - he said.
