Malcolm was awoken from what sounded like a child screaming. stirring from his slumber he slowly raised his head, opened his eyes and looked beyond the glass of his case, as his eyes slowly fell on the cameras in the office, confirming that it was a child screaming. as he began to wake up more he looked around and saw a familiar thorny-devil lizard in another glass box standing on a rock looking at the cameras. a familiar scorpion appeared in the glass box behind the lizard followed by a familiar funnel-web spider. but who were they? why they were his friends, Zoe, Nigel and Frank.

"What's going on? "did Jackie scare another kid? Frank asked. "yep" Zoe replied after she ate a fly in her glass box. "The show hasn't even started and she's already scaring kids" Malcolm sighed. "one of these days she's gonna get in serious trouble" he murmured to himself "she didn't bite anyone did she? Nigel asked nervously. "nah, just gave some minor kid a bit of a scare probably the first time she's seen a croc up close" Zoe replied. "wait till they get a look at Maddie and Malcolm" Zoe said smirking while turning towards Nigel and Frank, Malcolm however cast his gaze to the sleeping snake next to him. "Showtime guys" Frank said, as a horn sounded making Nigel jump. "do they have to blast that horn? Nigel wined. why can't they play pan pipes? "you'll get used to it" Malcolm said while stretching out as far as he was able to. "should we wake Maddie, and tell her what it's like out there? Frank asked while stretching out his legs. "nah let her sleep, it will be new for both of us" Malcolm replied. Zoe smirked and was about to say something when Chazz and another zoo keeper came in with pincers and two smaller glass boxes.

Time-skip: to the show when Zoe, Frank, and Nigel are on screen.

"And this ugly thing ladys and gentlemen is a funnel-web spider" Chazz announced. "can you see anything? Maddie asked as Malcolm peered through the key hole in the box. "just Chazz's  back" he replied. He's extra tubby right now because it's funnel-web spider mating season and he's the only one in captivity" Chazz added, earning a scrawl from Malcolm. "hang about, what's this disgusting thing under my hat? "ugh, your face" Zoe counted, earning a smirk from Malcolm. "alright i think we're up next" he said to Maddie, as Frank, Zoe and Nigel were put back in the small glass boxes and carried away. "But by far, the deadliest creature on this planet is the taipan snake". Chazz announced. "i trained them myself the moment they came out of their eggs". "please let them love me" Malcolm herd Maddie wispier to herself, "oh no set the bar lower Maddie. Like, please like me um no us. Liking would be fine, and like would become love, and like would be terrific". she chuckled. Malcolm smiled at her. "i'm sure they will like us" he said. "So" they herd, Chazz continue. prepare to meet.... Medusa! two hands reached in and grabbed them both. Maddie looked like she was having the time of her life. Malcolm however, was stuck on what Chazz said. "it's so amazing finally meeting you all" Maddie's voice broke him from his thoughts. "um, i... I've never seen the sun before". she chuckled. "now show 'em that beautiful smile". they did just that and showed their fangs... it was what neither of them expected.  the crowd screamed in fright, some children even cried. "these things are monsters, they are murders, they are cold-blooded killers!" Chazz announced loudly. Maddie looked hurt by this and covered her fangs with her tail. Malcolm on the other hand was angry. not at the crowd and Chazz for hating him... but for hurting Maddie. "righto! back in your box!" Chazz said abruptly and chucked both of them back into the box. "get in there, you ugly monsters! they herd Chazzie say. But i'm not a monster... am i? Maddie asked. "Rubbish!" Malcolm snapped enraged that Chazz thought this of them and upset Maddie. "he's just doing this because we are different, don't listen to him!".
