Saturday, October 31st, 1925, 5.48pm.

Inside the Browns’ farm kitchen, Clara is dressed up in fancy dress as a witch.

CLARA 
Okay come on in. Let’s see what you look like. 

Doc, Scott, Suzy and Edison the dog come into the kitchen. Doc is dressed as a wizard, with his white hair sticking up everywhere. Scott and Suzy are dressed as ghouls with papier-mâché masks. Even Edison is made up as a devil dog. 

CLARA 
You look wonderful. Emmett, let me adjust your collar, it’s sticking up. 

DOC 
Oh don’t fuss. It’s meant to be like that. 

CLARA 
You two look great. I can hardly recognise you both under all that make-up. 

SCOTT 
Great, we don’t want to be recognised. 

CLARA 
I do hope you will be careful. 

SUZY 
Don’t worry. I’ll keep an eye on him. 

Edison barks to Clara.

CLARA 
Yes Edison, you look lovely too. 

Clara makes a fuss of Edison.

SCOTT 
Have you finished the DeLorean Doc? Can I have a look? 

DOC
Later Scott, we’ve got a party to get to! 

That evening at the Courthouse Square, the Clock Tower chimes 7 o’clock.
The square is covered in pumpkins and Halloween decorations everywhere. The locals are all in fancy dress costumes enjoying a great evening. A band is playing 1920s music and people are dancing. Doc, Clara, Scott, Suzy & Edison arrive in Doc’s car. They park up and get out of the car. 

SCOTT 
C’mon! Let’s party like it’s1925! 

DOC 
This is giving me the strangest déjà vu. 

They wander along and mingle with the crowds.

DOC 
I can see Chuck Tannen over there with his wife Gertrude. 

Chuck and Gertrude Tannen are over the far side of the square. Chuck looks around to see if anyone’s looking before taking a swig of illicit booze.

SCOTT 
Doc, look over there. 

Further round, Kid Tannen is hanging with Cue Ball, Matches and Zane. They are hassling local girls.

DOC 
There’s your man. So far, so good. 

SUZY 
Look there’s your family Scott. 

The McFly family are enjoying the evening. Mary and William are having a dance whilst the kids hang around the side well away from the Tannens. A small mongrel dog comes over and starts playing with Edison.

SCOTT 
Hey Doc, look. Edison’s found a friend. 

Edison and the dog head over to a boy dressed as a ghost, painted white with chains. Edison seems over-the-moon to see the boy but at the same time a little confused.

DOC 
Great Scott! 

CLARA 
Are you okay Emmett? 

Doc comes across all emotional.

DOC
I thought this was all too familiar. That dog was my very first pet. Her name was, I mean is Tess. She followed me everywhere. We were inseparable. I had her for years. 

CLARA 
So the little boy is you is it Emmett? 

DOC 
Yes, aged eleven years old. Oh my, it’s my parents too. This is heavy. 

SCOTT 
Yeah Doc, we went to your old house the other day. Haven’t you ever seen yourself before? 

DOC 
No. I deliberately keep myself out of the town’s business as much as I can these days. I didn’t want to keep running into myself.

SCOTT
So, your dog’s name is Tess. What happened to all the scientific names you use for your pets? You know, Einstein, Copernicus, Edison…

DOC
I hadn’t become interested in science at this point; although it was around now that I first discovered the works of Jules Verne. I loved his books! It was Jules Verne that inspired me to dedicate my life to science. Well, that and the time I stuck my finger into an electrical socket! I do recall in 1926 that I decided to dig to the centre of the Earth, as I was convinced that the Journey to the Centre of the Earth novel was real. I didn’t get very far though as my father was furious at me for digging his favourite rose-bed up. He never really understood my passion for science; he just wanted me to be a lawyer.

Young Emmett runs over with the two dogs. Tess reacts strangely to old Doc, but acts pleased to see him. Old Doc kneels down and makes strokes her.

DOC
Oh Tess, you dear old thing. 

YOUNG EMMETT 
How do you know her name mister? 

Doc hesitates, before fiddling with Tess collar.

DOC 
Erm... Her name is on her collar. She’s a lovely dog. 

What’s your dog’s name? 

DOC 
Edison. 

YOUNG EMMETT 
Hi there Edison. That’s a great name. If I ever get another dog, I’m gonna call him Edison. 

DOC 
I’m sure you will. When you’re an old man like me, get yourself a dog and call him Edison. 

Edison and Tess look side-to-side at the two Emmett Browns. Emmett’s parents, Erhardt and 33-year-old Sarah Brown come over to fetch the young boy.

ERHARDT BROWN 
Emmett. Come along now. Don’t go annoying other people. 

YOUNG EMMETT 
Aww, pop. 

DOC 
He’s no bother. 

Young Emmett heads back to his parents.

YOUNG EMMETT 
Come along girl. 

Tess follows behind.

DOC 
Have a good evening now. 

Erhardt waves goodbye as the Browns head into the crowds. Doc waves back with a tear in his eye.

DOC
Mom… Dad… 

CLARA 
Oh. Emmett. 

DOC
I’m 113 years old and at a party with both my parents! 

SCOTT 
Woah. There’s not many people who can say that. I thought it was weird having dinner with my great grandfather, all his siblings, my great-great grandparents and my great-great-great grandfather!

SUZY 
Come on Scott. We’re wasting time. Don’t forget we’ve got to go to the blacksmith’s. 

At the Tannen Blacksmith’s, Scott forces the window open and climbs in. As the house is in darkness, Scott uses a torch to look around. Suzy follows him in. 

SCOTT
I’ll check these rooms and you check those. Try not to make it look as if anybody’s been in.

Scott pulls out a walkie-talkie and speaks into it. 

SCOTT
Doc, we’re in. Keep an eye on the Tannens for us.

Doc’s voice sounds from the walkie-talkie.

DOC 
Copy, over.

Scott and Suzy split up and go into separate rooms. 

Back in the Courthouse Square, Doc and Clara watch over the Tannen family who continue to hide at the back of the square, occasionally drinking from brown paper bags. Someone
taps Doc on the shoulder. Doc turns round. It’s Seamus McFly. 

SEAMUS
Emmett? Emmett Brown? Mother of Jesus, is that really you?

DOC
Seamus McFly. How the devil are you?

SEAMUS
I can’t believe your still around. I haven’t seen you in years. My son had a couple of youngsters at his house looking you up earlier in the week. I trust they caught up with you? We didn’t see them anymore after then.

DOC
Ah yes. They found me alright. Old friends of the family.

SEAMUS
So you must be still living on that farm way out of town by the forest? How are your boys?
They must be all grown up by now.

DOC
Yes they’re all grown up and moved away. Jules must be 39 now and Verne would be 37.

SEAMUS
Jeez, where does the time go?

CLARA
Yes, Jules is a doctor of medicine now, and Verne is a scientist. We don’t see them very often, but it’s difficult to visit them when we’d like to. You know how it is.

DOC
Scott told me about Maggie’s passing. I was sorry to hear the news.

SEAMUS
Yes, some days are harder than others. Scott you say? The young man who stayed at William’s said his name was Charlie. Charlie Chaplin. You know, like the actor.

DOC
Ah yes that’s him. Scott is his middle name. It’s the name we tend to use with him. Erm. You see, his father’s name is Charlie also, so we call him Scott to avoid confusion.

SEAMUS
Anyway, I’d better be getting back to my family. You take care now Emmett. You take care too Clara. Have yourself a great evening.

DOC & CLARA
Good Evening Seamus.

Seamus walks away. 

DOC
Would you care for a dance Clara?

CLARA
Okay Emmett, but only a slow one. My legs aren’t quite what they used to be.

Doc and Clara head to the dance floor and have a dance. After a minute or so of music, Doc looks round to check the Tannens are still at the party. He notes Chuck and Gertrude, and Kid’s gang, but there’s no sign of Kid. 

DOC
Great Scott!

In the Blacksmith’s, Suzy searches a bedroom and finds the iPhone in a drawer. She grabs it and rushes from the room carrying it. As she leaves the room, she disturbs a pile of papers which fall onto the floor. They show notes of dates and places that were recorded on the iPhone. One piece of paper shows a sketched drawing of the DeLorean. 

SUZY
Scott, I’ve got it! Result! It was on Kid’s sideboard. C’mon let’s get out of here.

SCOTT
Ace! Let’s go back to the future!

Doc voice sounds through Scott’s walkie-talkie.

DOC
Scott! Scott! Come in. Kid Tannen has left the party. Be on guard.

SCOTT
Damn. Quick lets go.

Scott speaks into his walkie-talkie.

SCOTT
Copy Doc, we’re on our way.

Scott and Suzy hurry to get out of the house and run straight into Kid Tannen. 

KID
Well, well, well. If it isn’t the two little punks who’ve been causing me grief all week?

Kid snatches the iPhone back. Scott goes to grab it back, and Kid grabs him round the throat and lifts him up and pins him against the wall. 

KID
So, what are you gonna do now then?

Scott tries in vain to escape Kid’s grip, but it’s too tight and no matter what he does he can’t get away. Scott can’t breathe and starts to go purple. 

SUZY
Let go of him!

KID
Why what ya gonna do about it if I don’t?

SUZY
This!

Suzy throws a punch which hits Kid square in the jaw and sends him flying into the sideboard. A vase falls on Chuck’s head and he’s out for the count. Scott holds his throat and catches his breath. 

SCOTT
Where did you learn to throw a punch like that?

SUZY
Self-defence class. Come on, let’s go.

Scott grabs his iPhone and then he and Suzy leave through the side door of the house. Kid moans as he regains consciousness and gets to his feet. 

KID
I swear I’ll swing for them.

Back at the Courthouse Square, Scott and Suzy run up to Doc and Clara. 

SCOTT
Doc, Doc, we’ve gotta get out of here. Kid Tannen caught us. He’ll be after blood.

Across the square, Kid Tannen arrives on the scene and sees Doc, Clara, Scott, Suzy and Edison heading quickly over to their car. 

Doc, Clara, Scott, Suzy and Edison get into the car. 

DOC
Everybody sorted. Got your computer?

SCOTT
Yes, let’s go.

DOC
Okay!

The car drives off out of the square. Kid Tannen hangs onto the back unseen by the passengers of the car. 

The car pulls up outside the Brown farm. Kid runs and hides behind a bush. Doc, Clara, Scott, Suzy and Edison get out of the car. 

SCOTT
Hey Doc, can we see the DeLorean now?

DOC
Okay, but we shan’t leave until the morning. I want a good night’s sleep before we go. It’s going to be a long day.

SCOTT
Or a short Century.

Doc leads everyone to the barn he’s been fixing the DeLorean. Inside there is an almighty workshop with cranes and all sorts of futuristic gadgets. On the far side is the DeLorean with Doc’s bi-plane attached to the top. 

SUZY
Oh wow!

SCOTT Woah!

DOC
As the car itself is incapable of reaching 88 miles-per-hour, I’ve rigged the bi-plane’s workings around it. When you get inside the DeLorean, which is a little tricky with the gull-wing doors, you turn the ignition, the plane starts up.

SCOTT
So we’re flying the plane from inside the DeLorean? That’s amazing!

DOC
It’ll make do so we can get to 1985. Then I can get it to the 22nd Century to fix up so you can take it back to 2015 and replace it where you found it.

SUZY
Can we take it for a test run?

DOC
No. We’ll leave it for the morning. Then we’ll get you back to Hilldale on Sunday, October 27th 1985, 11.45am.

Kid watches with interest from the barn door. He hides when everyone leaves. When they have all left, Kid creeps in and looks at the time machine and mutters to himself.

KID
Time travellers?

Kid inspects the time machine. He opens one of the doors to the DeLorean which only open a short way. Kid tries to start it but isn’t having much luck. He looks at what is in the back and picks up a newspaper. 

KID
