Shisui's House

Itachi led the way into the field, shuffling Sarada on his back and making sure she wouldn't fall off or was comfortable. He told Sasuke and Kakashi to activate their Sharingan, and notified Sakura to step exactly where Sasuke and Naruto stepped. It was dangerous. This field was basically a minefield for traps, and any one of them could probably take a grown man's legs off. There was an invisible path that only those with the Sharingan could follow, but who's to say there weren't any more hidden?

In any case, extreme caution needed to be exercised there.

"Why did Shisui set so many traps here!?" Naruto complained loudly and obnoxiously. He really couldn't be less annoying.

"To keep people away, baka." Sakura retorted, then her gaze turned thoughtful. After a few seconds, she narrowed her eyes. "But the house doesn't seem to be getting any closer..."

Itachi stopped and looked at the house. It looked just as far away as it had been when they stepped out of the woods. Meaning...

"KAI!" Everyone shouted at the same time, making the seal for release. The genjutsu fell away, and now they saw where they really were- still standing at the edge of the woods. That jutsu was probably used to alert the owner of the house of the intruders, and to keep them occupied until the owner could come get them. Brilliant, really. Very Shisui-like.

"Great!" Boruto sighed. "Now we gotta walk all the way out there again."

"Well, at least we got the Genjutsu off us." Sakura said as well, turning her emerald eyes to look at the house longingly. "That saved a lot of time."

"You're still as talented at spotting Genjutsu as you used to be." Sasuke looked back at Sakura and said. He probably didn't realize it was a compliment, but Sakura took it. She nodded curtly, only blushing a little bit. The two were very tense and awkward around each other, after figuring out that they...

Well, they had a child together, apparently. Which means they had to do something to get her.

They both blushed again. Sakura was more obvious about it, but if you looked closely at Sasuke, you could see the red tinting his pale cheeks. And it wasn't just the cold.

"Oi, teme, are you blushing?? Bahaha, Look at this, Sakura-chan, teme's blushing. Wait, Sakura-chan, you too? Why are you guys blushing so hard?" Naruto laughed, grinning widely. This is too good to be true. Look at his face! "Oh look! You're both blushing harder!"

"Uncle Naruto, quit torturing them!" Sarada called from Itachi's back. She pitied her parents, as she had been a victim of Naruto's relentless teasing before. It wasn't fun, needless to say.

Kakashi and Itachi exchanged a glance, Kakashi exhaling sharply. "Takes awhile to get used to." Kakashi commented breathlessly, still completely weirded out by this whole thing.

"Yeah, no kidding." Itachi nodded, trying not to lose his balance.

"Hey!" Boruto and Sarada complained loudly to the elder men. They obviously were kidding.

"Sorry, sorry!" Kakashi snickered quietly. "It's just funny. This whole situation is funny."

Sarada glared, but when Naruto accidentally triggered one of the traps, she became occupied with trying not to be impaled by Kunai knives. They were flying at her from everywhere, and she ducked behind Itachi's back. He kept them all away with his own kunai, smiling fondly at the trap he helped make.

"Dāmmit, tou-san, can you not mess up for one second??" Boruto screeched as a knife nicked his blonde hair.

"WELL, CLEARLY I MESSED UP WITH YOU! You should've been a girl." Naruto muttered, dodging the kunai that were flying at him.

"EH??? I HAVE A SISTER! I don't WANT to be a girl!" Boruto cried indignantly, not hurt in the slightest. He knew his father was kidding, because they both joked harshly with each other.

"WILL YOU TWO STOP ARGUING FOR 5 MINUTES????" Sakura shouted, and punched Naruto. Sarada reached over and did the same to Boruto, narrowly avoiding her pinky being sliced off by a random kunai.

The two boys had the same reaction: "ITAI, SARADA/SAKURA-CHAN!"

"I'm not sure I like Shisui's way of greeting strangers." Sasuke said, leaning out of the way of a shuriken. He'd met the famous Shisui a couple times and always thought him to be a friendly idiot.

"Does anyone?" Itachi snorted. "Besides, you've got to admit it's smart."

"Smart," Sasuke nodded. "Kid friendly?" He shook his head.

"Kid friendly? Really, Papa?" Sarada sighed. "Is anything shinobi do kid friendly?"

"The girl's got a point, Sasuke, so quit acting like a baby and try not to become Sasuke-kabob." Kakashi defended Sarada. Plus, who would pass up a chance to offend Sasuke?

After realizing he couldn't say anything in reply, he frowned. "Hmph." Sasuke looked away, embarrassed that he was scolded by his daughter and teacher collectively.

Itachi said nothing, but was smirking. At least some people knew how to keep his little brother in line. He had no idea where to start, and he was Sasuke's only living blood family member.

"We're almost there, guys." Sakura said, picking up the pace. That was her mistake. She didn't notice the quick sand underfoot. "What the--" She was cut off, stuck and sinking fast. She began to struggle immediately, and probably could've gotten out with her super strength, but this quick sand drained chakra.

"MAMA!" Sarada shouted, feeling very helpful. "THAT'S QUICKSAND, GET OUT OF THERE!"

"Great." Itachi turned around and handed Sarada to Sasuke. "Take Sarada. The kids can't be on the floor just in case they trigger any more traps."

Sarada and Sasuke glared at each other for a moment, then Sasuke turned to let her climb onto his back. Sarada got comfortable, and threaded her fingers through his hair, helping her relieve some of the worry about her mom. Sasuke thought it felt strange, but didn't stop her.

Itachi ran to the pit, extending a hand to Sakura. She grabbed it, and he began explaining what she should do.

Then his body began to grow a dark red.

"Susano'o?" Sasuke asked in surprise. "That's kind of..."

"Smart?" Sarada offered from above him.

"You said it, not me." Sasuke said, defensively. "Make sure you don't hurt her, Itachi!" He called out.

"Chill out. You're girlfriend's in good hands." Itachi called back. He meant what he said literally.

The susano'o scooped it's giant, red hand through the sand and grabbed Sakura. She wasn't panicking visibly, but she did seem shaken. When she left the sand, she saw Itachi make a bird hand sign and her chakra came back to her. It appeared he had some control over some of the traps, as if he had made some of them himself.

Itachi put Sakura on the floor, and Sarada itched to run to her, but she remembered Itachi's warning. The kids can't be on the floor in case they trigger any other traps.

"Are you okay, Mama?" She called out instead. Sakura looked at Sarada in surprise, then seemed to remember that she was her future child, and that was why she said that.

"Yeah, Sarada-chan, I'm fine!" She yelled back.

Sasuke sighed in visible relief, and his shoulders relaxed. Sarada smirked down at her father, but decided to say nothing.

For now.

"We need to keep moving." Sasuke looked at Itachi. "I'm betting they got team Hebi and are using Karin to track us."

"Karin." Kakashi closed his eyes. He remembered the reports on the people Sasuke had been traveling with. "Red head? Uzumaki? Chakra sensor/human battery?"

"That's her."

"Aunt Karin?" Sarada frowned. "The Akatsuki have her?"

"I think so. And probably Juugo and Suigetsu too." Sasuke looked up at her, hearing worry in her voice. "Why?"

"Uncle Sui? Uncle Juugo?" Sarada asked, sounding even more surprised. She hadn't realized they were in her father's life so early. "So that's team Hebi, yes?"

"Yeah. Me and them." Sasuke said.  "Our goal was, and still is, to kill Itachi."

Sarada looked from Itachi to Sasuke. "Why do you want to kill him so bad? Itachi-jii is a big sweetheart." Itachi rolled his eyes, shaking his head.

"Don't tell that to Kisame." Itachi said to her, walking back to the front of the line. "He might stop being scared of me."

"Hn." Sasuke said to Itachi. "And because he killed our clan." He told Sarada, as if she didn't know. He didn't understand why she hadn't gotten it into her head that Itachi was a bad person. And sure, he wasn't acting like it, but his brother was a literal sociopath and could be completely docile, then kill everyone in one second. Sasuke didn't trust Itachi, and couldn't get why anyone would.

Sarada looked at Sasuke with a gaze of stone. "Is this some kind of joke?"

"What?"

"Itachi-jii, did you not tell him...?" Sarada asked her uncle. Itachi looked back at her in shock, his footsteps faltering a little.

"You know?" He asked her, the shock rubbing off. Of course she knows. She comes from the future.

"Yeah. My papa told me a couple years ago." Sarada frowned. "He doesn't know now? Why is that? Don't you want him to love you again?"

"I..." Itachi frowned. "I would've told him, but I hadn't planned on living today. But now you showed up, and I have to." He winced in pain from his sickness.

"WILL YOU TWO PLEASE QUIT BEING SO CRIPTIC?" Sasuke scowled. "Whatever you aren't telling me, tell me now, Sarada, or I'll make sure in the future to ground you for a month."

He was ignored.

"My mama from the future would be able to help you, Itachi-jii..." Sarada said quietly, her tone sad. "Boruto, why couldn't you wait until we were around our parents to open the scroll?" She scolded him harshly, as if he was the one in control of this situation (even though he was the reason why it happened)

"Oi! Just an hour ago you were punching my brains out for opening it in the first place!" Boruto pouted. "Make up your mind, Sarada. KAMI girls are so bipolar." He muttered to himself, crossing his arms stubbornly. Sarada glared at him, but went back to looking at her uncle sympathetically a few seconds later. Boruto stuck his tongue out in her direction childishly when he was certain she wasn't paying attention.

"I'll say." Naruto rubbed his head where Sakura had hit him earlier.

"I can take Sarada-chan, Sasuke, if you want." Sakura offered, walking closer to Sasuke with a look that suggested that she would try to be civil with him for the little girl's sake. Sasuke looked up at the aforementioned girl for an opinion, but Sarada remained expressionless.

Sarada would've been fine with either parent carrying her, so she let Sasuke make that decision.

Sasuke shook his head. "She's growing on me." He sent a small smile up at her. She sent one back, but reached down to pat Sakura's head. "Maybe later." Sasuke promised. Sakura nodded. She didn't look too sad about it, thank goodness. Though out of all of them, she'd be the one least affected by the extra weight, Sasuke was stubborn.

Finally, the group reached the front door. They stood in front of it for a few seconds, pondering how they would get inside.

"There's a password." Sakura cocked her head to the side, leaning forward to better examine the lock. The doors were reinforced with titanium, and had a crazy big bolt on the outside that held it shut. A keypad on the bolt suggested that one could get in if they had a code. "Itachi-san, do you know it?"

"Yes." He moved up ahead and entered the password.

The bolt slid back, somehow, and the door opened, which revealed another door. Itachi made a hand sign and the door was flung open, revealing a living room. Precautions... Couches were on the far end of the room, and if you walked straight ahead, you would reach the kitchen. It was surrounded by a bar and some stools behind it.

"This is cute." Sasuke commented, sounding slightly accusatory. "For a 15-some year old."

"It was a house out of the village that we found and fixed up." Itachi shrugged nonchalantly, as if this wasn't the coolest hideout ever. "We did a decent job on it, I think."

"You did." Sakura nodded in approval, shifting her backpack from one shoulder to the other. She appeared to realize that she was still carrying her backpack, and sighed. "So where are our rooms?"

Itachi pointed at the stairs behind the couches. "Up the stairs, chose any unlocked room. The double doors beside the stairs leads to a training room, if you want. There're a couple rooms with bathrooms in them."

"How did you guys make this place?" Sasuke asked. "You were always on missions, or training."

"This was one of our favorite places to train. And do you remember that one summer where I was gone from sun-up to sun-down every day and kaa-san would yell at me for being late to dinner?" Itachi asked, smiling slightly at the memory. He'd always come home super drained, because he'd done the work of himself, and six other shadow clones. Shisui did seven shadow clones. Fugaku helped out with a couple of other men who thought the idea was good, and they each had around ten shadow clones. In other words, shadow clones was how they made the house and all of the intricacies of it.

"You were here then. Working on this. You always said it was a project. You could've taken me with you," Sasuke looked like he was ready to be mad, which would be stupid, since that happened a long time ago. "I could've helped."

"Sasuke, you were six years old back then. You must know that you would've been more of a burden than a help. Besides, we had Shisui's father and tou-san help us." Itachi retorted, sitting on the couch and tipping his head back onto the back of the couch. He lifted it again when he saw people wandering into the couch area.

"Hn." Sasuke looked away, not wanting to admit that Itachi was right.

"WHOA!" Naruto called from the kitchen. "Look at all this microwavable ramen!"

And there went Boruto. He wanted to see what else was in the fridge.

Sakura sighed and sat next to her future daughter on the couch. Kakashi sat on Sakura's other side, leaning his masked head on the back of the couch. He was contentedly staring at the ceiling. He didn't know what they were going to do now, and couldn't bring himself to care until it was strictly relevant.

Itachi made a Shadow Clone go make tea for them, and they began talking, all sitting in chairs or on the floor.

"So why does the Akatsuki want Sarada-chan and Boruto-kun?" Sakura asked, looking at the kids. Naruto, Sarada and Boruto were enjoying ramen at the table, and Sasuke was considering joining them. He decided against it so he could hear the plans.

"It probably has something to do with the fact that they're from the future. They could want to interrogate them." Itachi shrugged, taking a slow sip of his tea. He hadn't been in a meeting with the Leader in a couple of days. He had told the Leader that he and Kisame would be on assignment, and that he'd most likely confront his younger brother, and hadn't been back to any of the meetings since. Black Zetsu probably already figured he'd turned, if he'd been listening in on their conversations.

"I don't think we'll like their methods of interrogating people." Sasuke shuddered, imaging them sicing Hidan on the children, if he were still intact. Even for him, torture was never something he'd enjoyed doing. Even though Itachi had ruined his life, he hadn't wanted to torture the man, he just wanted him dead.

"It's the Akatsuki." Kakashi said with a 'well duh' tone. He turned to Itachi. "How did you know they were coming after Salada and Burrito?"

"A crow." Itachi told them, gesturing to Kakashi with his cup. "I sent one to keep an eye on them and report back to me during the fight with Sasuke. I wanted to at least know what they were doing before I died. Plus, Zetsu was there, and I'm quite certain he saw the whole 'Sarada comes and kicks Sasuke's åss' thing."

"She did not kick my âss." Sasuke sighed patiently, as if he was reteaching his young child the alphabet. "My Chidori missed. Otherwise, she would've been barbeque."

Sakura glared at him.

"Hey, I didn't know she was my kid!" Sasuke said defensively. Then his eyes widened. "She isn't even my kid! She's from the future! She's my future self's kid!"

"Sasuke, it still isn't healthy to try to kill every kid that you find. You need to get help." Kakashi sighed and rubbed his forhead.

"The first time she got in the way as I was charging Itachi! I couldn't exactly stop." Sasuke replied, thinking back to his positioning at the time.

"The first time?" Sakura and Kakashi said at the same time.

"Yep. He tried it, like, three or four times." Itachi smirked. "Even after she said she was an Uchiha. I think he actually tried harder after she said that."

"Tattletale." Sasuke spat under his breath at Itachi as Sakura and Kakashi began lecturing him on how it's bad manners to kill someone you just met.

"Abusive father." Itachi smirked back.

"Murderer." Sasuke scowled.

"Child killer."

"Liar."

"Big baby."

"Copy cat."

"Copy cat."

"I hate you."

"I know."
