CHAPTER 41

This chapter is dedicated to elge702. Love you! :)

"Where is he?" Ginny asked impatiently, looking at the mirror.

"He'll be here any minute." James said, his eyebrows wrinkled. "He told me he'll talk around 11:00 a.m, and it is only 11:05 a.m. He's always ten minutes or so late, trying to block his family out of the room."

Ginny and James were currently sitting cross-legged on James's bed, eyeing the two-way mirror James and Sirius used for communication. Last night, James had talked with him through it. They were due to meet at 11:00 a.m. again, with Ginny. They were planning Sirius's escape from his house, which wasn't easy. He had already escaped once, but Orion and Walburga forced him back. They've warned that next time he ran away, he would be burnt off the tapestry. Sirius didn't care much about being in the family, but Walburga was adamant not to let him escape. She has been keeping an eye on him, by her servants, intercepting the letters, locking him up somewhere besides his room, etc. Right now, he was probably trying to give his family a slip to talk to James.

Finally, at 11:15 a.m., a grinning Sirius came into view.

"Locked up mother in the bathroom," he began breathlessly before Ginny or James could ask anything, "Father is out, and Regulus is probably sulking in his room."

"Sulking?" Ginny asked before she could help it... "why sulking?"

"The branding." Sirius said quietly, "took place last evening. They took him to the a manor to You-Know-Who. I told him to deny it... to protest. He said that since I was going to run anyway, I shouldn't care for him. He... he... didn't even try to say no! He thinks I don't care...but... I do!" Sirius burst out. Ginny realised that she had actually brought up a touchy subject. Regulus was a subject Sirius probably didn't want to discuss. James didn't interrupt Sirius, nor did Ginny. He fumed for a while, but calmed down eventually.

"So, anyone interested in the planning? Sirius broke the tension. "He sounded more like his usual self, atleast he tried to.

"Of course!" James exclaimed. "When are you coming? And where should we wait for you? What's the plan?"

"Well, I think I've figured out something! I told you that I'll need your help, but now that I think of it, I think I can manage on my own." Sirius said without breathing. "I'll be arriving tomorrow morning. Just do me a favour, write to Moony to be there by tomorrow. I have something planned- other than my escape. Someone's coming. I'll see you tomorrow, bye." Sirius closed the connection abruptly, startling both Ginny and James.

"So much specific, isn't he?" James sighed. "Hope he manages it on his own. I think I'll better write to Moony and then..." Suddenly, his eyes lit up. "How about a little outing with Moony, instead of writing?"

"Outing?" Ginny asked, surprised. "Uh... sure... but?"

Her question was lost in her mouth as James clicked his tongue impatiently, caught hold of Ginny's hand, and dragged her down the stairs upto the drawing room.

"Mum, can we go out together?" Dorea looked up from the copy of 'Witch Weekly' with a stunned face.

"Go out?" She said blankly, "but dear, I thought you wanted to go out with Lily?"

Ginny didn't look towards James, but she assumed his face might be redder than hers.

"Mum!" James said, horrified, "I didn't mean that going out! I just asked if we could go out of the house!"

"Oh" Dorea said, looking amused. "Yeah of course." James took Ginny's hand, started walking towards the door, remembered something, and came back to Dorea.

"Um...mum? Some muggle money?" Ginny snorted. Dorea suppressed a laugh and handed him some pounds.

"Don't be late!" Ginny heard her shouting as she and James walked down the front door.

James held out his wand. Before Ginny could blink, the Knight bus stood in front of her. Ginny almost toppled over in surprise, but James held her.

"Uh-oh."  The conductor, who wasn't Stan Shunpike, giggled. "Where to?"

"John Lupin's house." James said, as he and Ginny sat on a seat, holding the window, bars or anything they could to stop falling.

"Of course, of course." The conductor giggled stupidly, though Ginny didn't what was funny in the phrase 'John Lupin's House."

"Just for the record," Ginny said, "why did you take muggle money if you were to go by knight bus?" James winked.

     "All at a right time."

Within five minutes, James and Ginny were knocking on Remus's door. The door was opened by a woman looked like she might've been exceptionally beautiful when she was younger. Though she still had a kind, warm face, it seemed as if most of her beauty was lost under exhaustion, sadness and hardwork. Nevertheless, she beamed at James.

"Hello, dear!" She greeted, shooting a curious glance at Ginny. "Is this Lily? I heard she had red hair. You're beautiful, honey!"

"No, Mrs Lupin." James said as Ginny smiled at the fact that even Remus's parents were aware of James's 'secret' love. "This is Ginny, our friend."

"Oh, I've heard about you," Mrs Lupin said as she beckoned them inside. Remus came in the room. He was surprised to see them.

"James, Ginny... what a surprise..." James didn't really give an indication that he heard him. He just grabbed his arm and turned towards Mrs Lupin.

"Mrs Lupin, would you mind if we take Remus out for a while?"

"Of course not dear, he is all yours." Mrs Lupin laughed. James greeted her goodbye and dragged Remus out with him, followed by Ginny.

After walking about five minutes wordlessly, Remus spoke up.

"Oh dear Merlin, I'm sorry James but I don't really bend that way." James turned towards him, confused.

"I am not gay like you." Remus replied.

"I am not gay, you know I love Lily..." James started dumbly, only to be interrupted by Remus.

"I would believe that once you let go of my hand."

"Oh." James let go of his hand, embarrased.

"Where are we going?" Ginny asked, stifling her laugh.

"You don't know?" Remus asked, "well, then Jamsie has a large explaining to do."

"All at a right time." James winked.

After riding a muggle cab for half an hour, James led them down to the front door of a house. Ginny and Remus exchanged glances, but didn't say anything. James hit the calling bell. The door opened.

The person was a beautiful woman with blond hair and twinkling green eyes. She looked at them, apparantly startled.

     "Yes?"

"We...um... we're Lily's friends." James blurted out. Remus and Ginny looked at James with exasperated and amused glance, as if to say, really?

James had brought them to Lily's house.

"Oh, dear come in!" The woman smiled. "I am her mother! Lily will be delighted to see you! Lily, your friends are here!" She called.

"Friends? Who..." Lily stopped in her tracks as she glanced towards Ginny, Remus and James. She smiled at Ginny.

"Hello, what a pleasant surprise! Ginny, Remus... and... uh... Potter." Even James got a tight smile as Lily hugged Ginny. Then she introduced them to her mother.

"Mum, this is Ginny Summers, Remus Lupin and uh... James Potter."

"Pleasure to meet you all." Mrs Evans greeted them. "Oh, so you're the famous James Potter? I must agree you don't really match Lily's... descriptions."

James smiled nervously. Ginny couldn't blame him, she knew too well how Lily's 'descriptions' must've been.

Seriously, James, way to get into more trouble!
