CHAPTER 40
This chapter is dedicated to Lil_Miss_Lightwood for reading both my stories and supporting them with generous amounts of votes and comments. Love you!
Ginny looked out of the window, towards the trees that seemed to be moving backward. She was sitting in the Hogwarts Express, rapidly heading towards King's Cross station. She is lost in thought, her mind filled with questions. She turned her back on the window and faced James.
"Are you absolutely sure about this?"
"Ginny, we've been through this already." James said dismissively, "Sirius is coming after few days too. We're helping him flee. Remus comes to meet us often. As for Peter, his mother doesn't let him come over. Besides, we can't leave you at the school all by yourselves."
"Yeah, the world is full of bad people. You can't be alone at school without us protecting you." Sirius said importantly. Remus looked up from the book he was reading.
"Are you really serious now, Padfoot?"
"I am always Sirius." Sirius said seriously. Peter laughed, starting up a chain of laughter. By the time the train entered King's Cross, they all had their sides aching, gasping for air.
"You told your parents I was coming, right? They'll be expecting me, right?" Ginny asked James as Sirius helped her trunk down.
"Of course! How could I forget?" James said, looking at her.
"Yes, how COULD he possibly forget with me reminding him once in ten minutes?" Remus commented. James put on a 'you-guys-are-teasing-me' look as they came out of the train.
Ginny spotted Lily and Alice and hugged them goodbye (with Lily giving a disdainful look towards James over her shoulder) and followed James. Remus and Peter had left them with a quick goodbye on the doorstep (with Remus promising to visit weekly). Sirius had been careful not to be noticed with them outside the train. Now, Ginny spotted him standing with his family- Orion and Walburga Black, who were eyeing other people as they were dirt. Sirius wore a really sullen expression which conveyed that he'd rather be with a bunch of Blast-ended Skrewts than his family. Regulus was standing behind him with a quiet expression- not intimidating like Orion and Walburga, but not friendly either. For a moment, his eyes meet Ginny's and he tried to mouth something to her, but Ginny looked away quickly. Looking at Regulus just triggered her memory more, in turn making her feel guilty. And that was something she couldn't stand at all. Feeling guilty.
"There they are." James interrupted her thoughts. Ginny caught sight of Mr and Mrs Potter, James's parents. They both smiled at her. James had not forgotten to inform them afterall.
"You must be Ginny." Mr Potter shook her hand, while Mrs Potter directly hugged her.
"James told us alot about you in the Letters." Mrs Potter said. "I heard you're helping him to win the heart of his dream girl?" Ginny laughed and looked towards James, who had turned red.
"I am Charlus Potter" Mr Potter introduced himself, "and this is my beautiful wife Dorea Potter." Charlus Potter had jet black hair like James's, but they weren't messy, nor did he wear glasses. Except that, James had a striking resemblance to his father. But he had inherited his hazel eyes from his mother. Dorea Potter had an extremely beautiful face. Her hair was red, but not bright red like Ginny or Lily. Instead, it was kind of darker blackish shade. Ginny remembered that she had seen Dorea Black's name on the Black family tapestry. Clearly, Dorea had inherited the Black family's royal look.
"Come on, honey. I'm glad I'll have a girl for company this Christmas!" Dorea said, taking Ginny's hand. "As for you, I think you'll be easier to put up with when Ginny is around." Ginny laughed at James's indignant face. Charlus was already leading them through the barrier, into the muggle world. Ginny side-apparated with Dorea as James went with his father.
The Potter's house was located at Godric's Hollow. It was just as large as Sirius's house in 12, Grimmauld Place. But otherwise, it couldn't be more different. The house had a warm and inviting feeling, and there were Gryffindor decorations all over. Well, mostly. There were few Slytherin decorations as well, like the green and silver curtain over two windows, and few wall hangings. But overall, mejority was Gryffindor.
"My wife was Slytherin." Charlus said, noticing Ginny looking at the green and silver. "She was a Black."
"And I am not a pure blood freak." Dorea commented later, leading up Ginny towards her room upstairs. "I will be getting disowned anyday, not that I care too much.... once Sirius comes here. I guess you know Sirius will be coming?" Ginny nodded. Dorea showed her the room, which was just besides James's room. Dorea had arranged a room for Sirius as well, which was on the other side of James's.
Ginny was impressed to see how heartily the Potters had wanted her to come. How easily they had made her feel so wanted. Ginny was reminded of her own mother. She felt.... home.
Dorea left her to freshen up and told her to come downstairs for tea. Ginny looked around in the room. It was richer than her own room at The Burrow. But still, it felt familiar, unlike the unfriendly feeling she found in the room at Grimmauld Place. Ginny thought about how happy Harry would've felt.... if he had known Charlus and Dorea. If she could just bring him here for a minute.... what this would've meant to him.
Pushing the sadder thoughts aside, she freshened up, and put on fresh pair of clothes. In her trunk, she found the time turner, pushed into a corner. Taking the time turner in her hand, she looked at it. She had put it in her trunks a week ago. And she had.... forgotten about it.
Suddenly, Ginny felt fear gripping her. How could've she just forgotten about it? She counted- she had been in the past for more than two months. Two freaking months and she hadn't managed to find a way to turn the time turner. It was as just stuck as the first time.
Was she stuck here forever?
Though Ginny wasn't unhappy in this time, the prospect of living here forever scared her. The idea of leaving her family, leaving Harry behind was horrifying. And her mother- she can't bear to to loose another child. Ginny decided to tell Dumbledore the truth, once she was back at the school.
Ginny put the time turner back into her trunk and went downstairs. She heard laughter before she approached the drawing room. The Marauders will be hard to forget. Except Peter, he wasn't even fit to be a Marauder. So will be Lily, Alice.... Regulus.
"Took you long enough." James commented as Ginny sat down on the couch besides him.
"Don't be an idiot, James. Girls take longer to freshen up." Dorea answered for Ginny.
"Well, she obviously hasn't applied any make up...."
"She has a long hair to work on, James." Charlus answered this time. James crossed his arms.
"You guys haven't known her even for two hours.... still you're taking her side!"
"Well, I can a make a good impression easily." Ginny said. They all laughed.
"So tell us Ginny, how is James's mission 'Impressing Lily' going on?" Dorea asked, after the tea was served by two house elves. The house elves were named Minnie and Timmy, they looked clean and happy, very much unlike Kreacher.
"James needs to work harder." Ginny said, taking a bite into the delicious chocolate cake.
"I am working hard!" James pouted.
"Obviously you need to work harder, son." Charlus said laughing, "Do you know how much I had to work before Dorea finally agreed to out with me? Girls are hard to impress."
"We're worth it!" Dorea said. "So Ginny, we've never seen Lily, and James is horrible at describing. You tell me, how does she look?"
"She is...." Ginny was interrupted rudely by James.
"Mum, dad, I can describe her better this time!" He yelled excitedly.
"No James," Charlus said, exasperated. "We don't want another scene of- 'she is sooo beautiful....' and your dreamy look."
"No no listen," James said, "look at Ginny." Charlus and Dorea looked at her, then back at James.
"And...?" Dorea prompted James.
"OK.... look carefully at Ginny." James said. "Lily has red hair like her. Just make it another shade brighter and shiny. And make her face a bit longer, Lily's nose is more perfectly shaped. Put shiny emerald green eyes on her.... then make her chin kind of heart shaped. Lily has longer eyelashes. The freckles wouldn't be there.... and Lily's skin is more shiny. And make the hair a bit longer. Ta dada! You have Lily!"
James's enthusiasm was met with a stunned silence. Then all three of them burst out laughing.
"What?!" James said indignantly. "You didn't get Lily?"
"Vividly." Said Dorea. "She is really beautiful."
"So basically," Ginny said, suddenly serious, "you pointed out how much unglier I am than Lily? And how she is prettier than me in everyway?" Ginny gave him a hurt look. James looked horrified.
"No no, I didn't mean it like that Ginny, I swear...." He struggled to finish the sentence.
"Relax! I was kidding!" James looked relieved as Ginny laughed. Charlus and Dorea joined her laughter.
Ginny's holiday with the Marauders had started out pretty well.
