CHAPTER 39

This chapter is dedicated to AnkitaBarat for listening to my continuous whinings and supporting my story. Love you! :D

She tried to run after him, but her legs wouldn't move, she tried to shout more, but her voice became hoarse, desperately, she watched his retreating figure, disappearing in the darkness.

"Harry! Wait! I love you! Harry!"

"Ginny, what's wrong? Wake up! Ginny!" Someone shook her roughly. Through her blurred eyes, she saw a silhouette of someone- with messy hair. Without thinking, she flung her arms around the person who was bending over to wake her up. His figure was so familiar....

"Harry, I swear, I didn't mean to kiss him, I didn't know he would...." her cries muffled up in his shoulder. Harry, however, didn't hug her back immediately. He became sort of stiff, then after few moments,he patted her back awkwardly.

"Shh, it's just a nightmare, Ginny." He whispered. She kept crying and crying, until her thoughts became clearer. Her mind cleared. Harry wasn't leaving her- then he wasn't angry.... but wait!

She was at the Marauder's era, Regulus had kissed her, then how was Harry here?!

Her eyes widened in horror, as she realised what happened. She let go of him immediately, and as she had worked out, a very awkward looking James Potter stood before her, ready to bombard her with questions.

James quietly held out a glass of water to her. It was rare for James to be this thoughtful, but however, Ginny couldn't think straight. She took the glass and drank the water, without looking at him. She could still feel his gaze on her, she felt him sitting besides her.

"Care to explain?" She heard him saying.

"I had a nightmare." She came up with a lame excuse.

"I know that. Want to talk about it?" Ginny shook her head.

"It isn't important."

"Yes it is. You have to explain. I won't leave you alone otherwise."

"I don't want to talk about it to anyone."

"Not even me?"

"Who exactly ARE you?" Ginny looked up to glare at him.

"I just...."

"Don't you dare say you care!" Ginny instantly felt bad to see the hurt look on James's face. But she was angry, miserable.... she didn't want to take it out on James, but she couldn't really help her mental state.

"Whom did you kiss?" James asked.

"Wha...?!"

"You said you didn't mean to kiss 'him'. Who is 'he'?"

"Its none of your bussiness!"

"It is! If it is some wimp...."

"You're not my brother James, so don't act like one!" Ginny glared at him.

"I thought I was as good as one." Ginny had no answer to his quiet voice.

"OK, tell me, who is Harry?"

"Who is Harry? I don't know...."

"Don't avoid the question Ginny! The name keeps cropping up since we've meet you. You are just avoiding it!"

Ginny took a deep breath. "What do you want to know?" She asked.

"I want to know who is Harry" James said, looking straight at her.

Ginny looked up, straight in his eyes.

"He is the only person ever to survive a killing curse." Ginny said abruptly. "Are you satisfied now?" Ginny almost laughed at his dumbfounded expression.

"I got it." James said.

"You got what?" Ginny asked.

"That you are not willing to talk about Harry- or whoever that is."

"Well realised." Ginny said, sarcasm dripping from her voice.

"Hey, don't be so sarcastic!" James said. Ginny didn't reply. Her head was bursting with headache. She tried to soothe the pain by rubbing the either side of her head.

"You want to take something for that? Like a calming draught or something?" James asked, concerned.

"No." Ginny replied, "I think I'm going to my own dormitory." She slid down from the bed and headed towards the door.

"But why?" James asked, coming after her.

"I've already disturbed your sleep a lot." Ginny said. James shook his head with the look of disbelief in his face.

"You think I am...."

"See you tomorrow." Ginny cut him off, and climbed down the stairs. She wasn't sure if she was going to the girl's dormitory or not, but she wasn't going to stay here any longer.

Ginny wasn't sure what she was running away from. Was she running away from James, or Regulus, or the questions, or her own burden of guilt.

She had never wanted to escape so badly.

Ginny climbed up the stairs to the girl's dormitory. She hadn't expected anyone to be still awake- she wasn't in mood to quarrel; especially not with Marlene.

"Where've you been?" Marlene asked, glaring at her. Lily and Alice however, were asleep.

"That's none of your bussiness." Ginny snapped.

"Oh, I know, you've been to the boy's dormitory. What happened anyway? Feeling used?" Ginny certainly hadn't expected that.

"What?!" She asked, not sure if she had heard her properly.

"I expect you've had a big blasting-"

"NO!" Ginny shouted, Lily and Alice woke up with a start.

"I HAVE TOLD YOU MANY TIMES THAT I AM NOT HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH ANY OF THEM! ARE YOU THAT THICK OR HAVE YOU BUMPED YOUR HEAD LATELY?" Ginny continued shouting. Lily and Alice took a moment to understand the whole thing. Then, Lily glared at Marlene.

"Marlene!" Lily spoke, "we've been through this already! Just give it a rest, OK?"

Marlene didn't look happy, but she didn't say anything further. Ginny was too exhausted to argue. So she brushed the whole thing aside and leapt into her bed.

Ginny fell in a restless sleep. Two pairs of eyes- one pair emerald green, and other pair dark gray, kept peering in and out of her dreams.

Next morning, Ginny joined the Marauders at the breakfast table. Remus was looking tired and exhausted. Sirius and Peter looked better. James however, had bags under his eyes- Ginny felt guilty that she had been the cause of his tiredness. He could've just slept all through her nightmare, simply by casting a silenco. But he had helped her, woke her up and even comforted her. She had returned his favour by cold-shouldering him.

"James?" She whispered quietly, sitting besides him, so that the others wouldn't hear.

"Yes?" Ginny was relieved to hear that he didn't sound annoyed.

"I'm sorry." Ginny whispered. James' face turned towards her, his hazel eyes incredulous.

"I'm not angry with you." He whispered. "On the contrary, I have something to ask you."

"What?" She asked, praying that it wasn't about Harry. James however, didn't answer immediately.

"So Ginny," Sirius started, diverting her attention, "where are you going for Christmas?"

"Um... I am staying at Hogwarts I guess." Ginny answered.

"No, you're not." Remus said. Ginny looked at him questioningly.

"We have it all planned for you." James answered for Remus. "You're coming to my house these holidays."
