Chapter 9
Kanan waited patiently in the waiting room. He saw many children waiting there with their parents. Little trouble makers that played with toys and laughed joyously. Kanan remembered when Ezra was like that. Now, he was a teenager and Kanan wasn't even there to see it.
He adopted him and hoped to give him a better life but all he managed to do was make things worse. From the moment he brought Ezra home, only trouble found the boy and now he knew why? His colleagues told him. It was because of Palpatine. He killed Hera, on the car crash. He was in control of Seventh Sister and Fifth brother when they abused Ezra. He made sure he would loose his memory and when the time came, he used Ezra once again to get to him.
Now Kanan wondered if he was doomed to cause pain to the people he loved. He would do better though. He swore he would. He would be a good father now. And he started by quitting his job. Being an agent already caused enough trouble to his family.
He saw a couple of nurses come his way, he stood up hopefully as they walked by and sat back down as they passed by without stopping. How long has he been here? He checked his phone. Five hours, great! Kanan couldn't take it anymore. He got up and this time he wasn't planning on sitting back down again. After some questioning, he finally found out where Ezra's room was.
He saw many people passing by. Some were hugging and some were crying, some were waiting and some were leaving or coming in. He got in the elevator. Before the doors could close-
"WAIT!!!" Kanan on reflex pressed the button, faster than a human being possibly could. The doors opened once again as a man , who seemed close to his age, rolled in a teenage girl in a wheel chair, a serum on her hand, a breathing mask on her face and no hair on her head.
"Thank you" the man said sounding exhausted.
Kanan nodded to the man, his attention going to the girl. She was looking at him the whole time. She shakily raised her hand and waved at him. Kanan half sad, half amused waved back at her, smiling.
"Lung cancer" the man said. He tried to smile but, the sound of his voice gave out his true feelings. Despair, sadness and beautiful, unconditional love.
"I'm really sorry to hear that"
"She's going on a surgery today. We don't know if..." the man sobbed but tried to hide it, pretending it was a cough. It didn't work. It didn't go unnoticed by Kanan or the girl. She took her fathers hand into hers and tried her best to smile trough the breathing mask. Kanan put a hand on the man's shoulder.
"I know how you feel. My son is here too. Something bad happened... and I don't even know if he's still alive. And if he is, I am petrified that he will have to live the rest of his life in pain. I don't want to loose him. Not again" Kanan admitted as he looked down. What would happen if he did loose him?
The elevator stopped and the doors opened.
"Well, that's my stop" Kanan said as he looked back to the man and the girl.
"I'm sure everything will be okay" Kanan said both to the man and the girl.
"I'm sure everything will be okay with your boy too" the man said as he put his arm around his daughter's shoulders. The girl waved Kanan goodbye and Kanan waved back. The doors of the elevator closed, the girl and the man disappeared behind them and Kanan truly felt like everything would be okay.

Sabine paced back and forth in her room. The police left almost an hour ago. Ever since they fell unconscious till now, they have been a pain on their-
Zeb snored hard, interrupting her train of thought. She debated between waking him up or letting it drop. She decided to let it go, for now. Not one word, not one word on where Ezra was. She knew he was alive, she heard two officers talk about it. And she knew Kanan was alive too, and apparently he got his memories back. What did that mean for them? Would Ezra have to leave? Would Ezra want to leave? Sabine glanced over to her right. Even in the darkness of Zeb's room she could make out the lines of Ezra's bed. A part of her knew Ezra would want to leave and be with his father. It's what he wanted from the moment he came to live with them.
A part of her hoped he would want to stay. They actually grew up together and the thought of him leaving, it hurt her. She felt like she was loosing someone dear, someone she loved, someone she couldn't imagine her life without. She sat on Ezra's bed. She really wanted to jump trough the window and grab on the tree. Then climb down and take her by and search every goddamn hospital on this city for any sign of Ezra. She hated this, she hated sitting on his bed with her arms crossed and feeling hopeless. For all she knew he could be dead by now. She would loose him forever without even having the chance to say goodbye.
She needed to draw. She needed to do anything but sit here. She went back to her room and got one of her notebooks. She drew her mother, Zeb, Ezra and her all together. She drew Ezra smiling, laughing and then she drew him on a hospital bed looking so scared and in such pain. She painted Ezra leaving, going to live with Kanan, getting in a car with all his thing and leaving without looking back, without giving Sabine a second glare. She threw her notebook on the floor. This was supposed to calm her down but now, she felt more restless than ever before.
she looked outside her window. The lights of the city were hiding all the stars. All the stars except from one. She gazed at the star for quite some times. It felt lie hours to her. There she prayed, she prayed for everything to be alright, for Ezra to be alright. For them to be alright. She really hoped, and kid of felt like, someone out here really listened.
