✧. Curious soul and practice day .✧
The day of the kiwi arrival went in full swing and a challenging exhausting day for Yahvi. and by the time evening fell. the 23 year old manager looked visibly tired her body aching begging to have some mercy on the groaning muscles.
whole day was just about her rushing to the infamous wankhede stadium of Mumbai and make sure that the stadium was ready and well prepared for the team's Practice session which was happening to start from the following day.
Afterall, it was the manager's responsibility to check up on all the details. and inform the pitch curators and Officials of the team about the ongoing condition and the kind of pitch the team wanted to practice upon.
the Newzealand team was about to start their campaign with two warm up games by the next week, one with England and another with Netherlands.
and Yahvi never swore or even expected in her dreams that her job would become so chaotic and busy.
she suddenly was turned like a robot, with a motor fit inside her. working like a complete maniac rushing up to the stairs to make the arrangements done for the team's arrival for the practice session.
oh they were really true when they said that it wasn't a cup of tea to manage an international team. some of the kiwi players were resting in their rooms because of the jet lag and different time zones.
while others were already ready Being told to be in hotel lobby in a while who wanted to join on the optional training session in the stadium.
it was exhausting for them too, it was indeed a challange to manage with different time zone, weather condition adapting to them as soon as possible and get on to the work, which wasn't an easy task.
Yahvi's voice grew faint and feeble as she finally sat in the waiting area of hotel. letting her head fall on the table closing her eyes. her each breath expressing a quiet exhaustion .
as she moved through the world in a daze. her senses were dulled by a persistent fatigue that clunged to her like a heavy shroud. her shoulders were sagged wearing the weight of tiredness like a burden too heavy to carry.
" Yahvi ? are you alright?" the concerned and worry coated voice interrupted the little relaxing session of silence she was having in a moment as she turned to look up.
her Exhausted pale face found itself facing the fresh and energetic looking Rachin with his cricket kit on his back, a concerned look morphed onto his face as he looked at yahvi.
" yeah i am alright." she gave him a small polite smile leaning back against her char clearing her throat, but the curly haired man looked rather unconvinced as he observed yahvi closely.
" you certainly are lying Miss. manager aren't you? one can easily tell you need rest." Rachin's light hearted tone echoed around Yahvi's ears as she turned to look at him in a doubtful manner.
Rachin took a deep breath, his eyebrows furrowing in concern as he took in Yahvi's state, she looked so worn out and pale, but with how dedicated and passionate she was towards her work she would never listen that's for sure.
" i am completely fine sir-" she started but took a deep breath closing her eyes for a second as soon as Rachin raised his eyebrows up at her direction an amused smile gracing the corner of his lips.
biting down on her lower lip she took a deep breath and immediately corrected herself remembering how he didn't liked her calling him sir. " i am okay Rachin it's nothing I just needed a breather." her tone was visibly calm and calculated .
He could feel that she was finding solace and fullfillment in being alone .
this woman was just sometimes else, no matter how much Rachin tired to ease the awkward tension and the level of extreme professionalism between them. she just didn't let it go she seemed to carry that layer of briefness like a priority.
she was like a distant hue, just passing and disappearing giving just a glimpse and touch of herself, which intrigued him and pricked up his curiosity.
she looked down at her watch and he followed her moments, " aren't you supposed to home too?". he asked again as if trying to break her eyes while she just shifted her attention from her watch to him.
" oh no not yet, you guys have practice session. i would leave after that." she nodded in his side making him feel a little more confident about their conversation.
" you certainly are way too energetic working like this since morning without any rest seems like you are having more stamina than us." Rachin asked giving her a small smile his lips gracing in a teasing grin.
" well its just how it is. that's what we get money for so no other option" she brushed it off with a chuckle stretching her legs out.
" money being the motivation huh?" he took a sip of water from his water looking in her direction admiring how the sunset hue graced her gorgeous face.
" you do can say that, but its more of my love towards my work but talk about yourself already down for practice." she took a sip of water from her glass too getting up from the chair.
" cant take the risk and i certainly didn't wanted to waste my team, so here i am" he trailed behind her supporting the weight of his cricket kit on his shoulders.
he somehow just enjoyed talking to her, despite being here for barely few hours the mysterious aura yahvi Iyer surrounded herself with was something he was willing to dig deep to.
" ofcourse Why not, you have a choice to either skip it or train so its more better to train rather than dying in guilt later." she spoke turning to look at him making him stop abruptly.
suddenly they were standing a bit more closer than usual, as she stopped without telling him. and he finally got a close look to her features. a gorgeous woman she indeed was no doubt.
but he could feel his heart race at the moment when his eyes found hers. they were so deep chocolate brown and screamed practicality. by her words she indeed sounded like a practical woman.
oh lord! this wasn't good for him. standing there staring at his team's Indian manager whom he just barely a day ago.
clearing his throat he stepped back, as Yahvi took a deep breath not knowing where that electric spark suddenly came from, his cologne was able to reach her senses. and his always curious and questioning nature pissed her off as well as made her heart skip too.
" the bus is here." she replied wanting to escape from this situation not really happy with how she was feeling, letting go of the maturity and torn up by series of different moods and feelings.
" you would be in the stadium too right?" he was quick enough to ask her, feeling equally tempted as her's not knowing what exactly was wrong with him in hoping to ease the awkwardness around them.
" yeah ofcourse" she gave him a tight lipped smile before making her way towards her car, while Rachin let out a deep breath running a hand through his hair.
god what was wrong with him.
As by the end of the day, the sunset descended with a gentle sigh. and the Players of Newzealand didn't left a stone unturned with the practices and strategies.
the stadium of Wankhede buzzed with excitement and an intensity of training session, the players were filled with energy and determined as continuous drills and net practice was being completed by each player.
yahvi sat by the stands her laptop in her hands, but her mind was filled with the conflicting thoughts. she wasn't able to focus really. her heart raced with an anxiety when she thought about that little incident that happened with Rachin.
was she suddenly so weak and sensitive towards her job that she didn't even realised what was actually happening. why he had to be like that? she never felt like this around anyone.
and that irked her, she didn't wanted to pay much attention to the nonsense of her brain. but it was the fact that the certain kiwi player did had some power over her. he did managed to shake that confident aura for a bit.
she felt scared today, it never happened before. there was a strange fear in her eyes and an uncertainty a doubt that lingered in her mind when he stood close to her.
he had a capability of making yahvi Iyer slip away from her proffesionalism and build up such emotions in her that she never knew even existed.
how was he able to that? who gave him that right ? he was nothing but a player. just a random player that she had to face for the sake of her job.
it was a fear of slipping away, and he had a power of making her slip away. a way to make her let down her walls and guard him in. which no one ever could, he did so easily in such a short span of time.
her mind raced with thoughts as she swallowed shaking her head to get rid of stupid thoughts, it was nothing like that. he was just an international player , and she didn't got anything to do with him.
she sat with her legs crossed acing her mind to convince herself that Rachin was just a player for her. but as she saw his batting practice today there was no doubt that he was an impressive player.
he was so sure and exact on his plans, the shot selection and power hitting abilities he possessed was an answer itself that why he was one of the most successful kiwi player.
but what he more was that he was such a curious soul. while on their way to the stadium. the guy couldn't shut up about every possible famous spot he saw.
as if Yahvi was a tour guide, which she even tried to explain as best as she could. but she certainly didn't knew that a five year old lived inside Rachin when his question series never finished.
and it indeed had started to piss her off at another level. the way this man was making her feel. and almost had questions for everything he saw. she knew she would punch him soon enough.
" hey yahvi? what do you think how long the square boundaries of this stadium are ? " Groaning from inside hearing another question from curious master she took a deep breath and calmed herself somehow.
"excuse me what?" she narrowed her eyes at him seeing him having a tired grin on his face as he took a seat on couple of chairs away from her.
was he even serious? how was she even supposed to know that?
" well- i dont know, i have no idea google it." she replied being done with so many questions focusing back on her laptop.
" i left my phone in hotel on charge so I can't do that." He gave her a nervous smile as if trying to hide the embarassment, leaning against the chair but enjoying only one moment of talking to yahvi.
one thing was sure, by the end of worldcup Rachin was going to be the first person yahvi would love to punch to.
" okay forget that, can i ask you why do you always stay so brief and short with your answers' he asked in a playful joking tone admiring the way her baby hairs graced her face.
she was just one of the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. but had this amazing variety of power to not let her guard down.
as if she had swore upon not going easy and soft, she was way too close to herself for her own good, avoiding normal conversation at all costs and just staying proffesional.
" you know yahvi? you can have a normal conversation with players? it wont be crossing the line of proffesionalism." his brutally honest self couldn't help but admit, as he looked at her with an honest smile.
yahvi on the other hand took a deep breath staring ahead, knowing only she had the idea that this gorgeous looking man sitting beside her had every power to make it happen.
which she was never going to admit, and even befriend players. it wasn't something she believed or ever did. " i am sorry Rachin, but i belief it isn't really a need i am here to make you and your team's job a bit easier i think we should just focus on that".
her voice was extremely firm and exact that it send a shiver down his spine for a second. tilting his head he gave her a questioning look but her face was extremely stoic. " and who told you? that you cant do that while not being like a wax statue just relax a bit, and let yourself go." his voice also laced with same certainty and belief.
" i am doing my job just pretty well Rachin, that's how i am. i get payed for this am not bound to be friendly with you that's not my job." she finally spoke turning to look at him her tone heavy and precise. as if she was trying to make it clear.
the air was thick with tension both individuals firm and standing by their opinion, neither of them ready to back out. the more he got to know about this woman the more he wanted to know.
she left an ever lasting impact on him with her sharp eyes and balanced confidence. how could someone make him feel in such a way. he was enjoying this argument with her.
knowing and getting the chance to see the yahvi behind a workaholic manager whose job was everything for her.
he let out a chuckle under his breath in amusement making yahvi scoff and ignore him. her anger speaking up for a second.
" you are an interesting soul Yahvi i cant help it. the way you have managed to carry yourself till now. all i am saying is give yourself a chance to stay light and normal around as well." his tone suddenly got softer as he sighed softly staring at her in utter bewilderment.
thousands of emotions dancing in his eyes as he gave her a small smile taking a sip of his water. " allow yourself to be yourself instead of just a bcci manager." with that he got up and made his way towards the field area again.
and yahvi sat alone there just pondering over what exactly happened.
