Chapter 17
Jimins mother finally awoke the next day. It was a bitter sweet moment between the two as the reality of her sickness dawned on them. Jimin had been dreading this moment, as he knew that his mother's illness was terminal and there was nothing he could do to stop it. He held her hand and cried, knowing that their time together might come to an end.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Jimin asked.
"It wouldn't have changed anything. I thought I could handle it myself!"
"It's Cancer Mom! Cancer. You can't handle something like this on your own. If you don't get treated, it's bound to get worse"
So hye frowned. "Now you are scolding me"
Jimin sighed and sucked in a deep breath.
"Anyway, how do you feel?"he asked his mother.
"I should be asking you that question. I know the hospital bills aren't cheap. How can you afford to pay"
Jimin bit his lips. He had come to expect a lack of support from his mother. She had rarely been involved in the process of his pregnancy and had not provided any emotional or physical assistance. He figured that what he would say wouldn't be noticed by her either.
"I sold my baby to Taehyung's parents but it was something that had to be done," he said, his voice heavy with resignation.
"It was the only way I could afford to pay your hospital bills," he explained further, his expression solemn. His mother finally nodded in understanding.
"They came for the baby in the end. Somehow, I knew that would happen" she whispered then she frowned.
"It's annoying that all this is because of me! What exactly are they going to do with you?"
"I'll just wait and see. I have to live with them until I give birth and wean the child. After which, I'll leave and never return! They'll have full custody of the baby"
His voice became filled with emotion as he felt trapped in a situation he could not escape due to his financial circumstances.
But So hye nodded her head. "Alright then, Let's do this. I think it's for the best. You were never supposed to have this baby in the first place" she said, completely unfazed.
Jimin didn't know why her words hurt him so much. He gulped back his tears unable to speak a word. Thankfully, a nurse returned to treat So hye. She fell asleep and he decided to leave her alone.
Just as they had arranged, Jimin prepared himself to leave for the Kim's home. He was full of nerves on that weekend wondering how things would be. He couldn't forget Yoongi's words about how much he would suffer. He knew that would happen. Taehyung's parents would look down on him. He would be isolated most of the time. In fact, his life would become hell. However, he had no choice. He would just have to endure all of these for his mother's sake even though she wasn't appreciative.
Mrs Kim arrived to pick him up just as she said she would. Yoongi accompanied him, helping to load his bags into the waiting car while while Mrs Kim watched them with an air of superiority from inside the car.
"Take care of yourself. Stay in touch okay?"
Jimin nodded his head with a sad smile. "Thanks for everything Yoongi and please do help me look after my mother"
"That won't be a problem" Yoongi answered before glancing shortly at the woman in the car.
"No matter what happens, never let Taehyung and his parents treat you like trash. Do you hear me?"
Jimin nodded fiercely as Yoongi pressed his arms. "You must stand up for yourself" he continued
Then he smirked. "Give Taehyung the middle finger for me when you see him"
That cracked Jimin up and he nodded again.
"Thanks Yoongi!"
Mrs Kim had been waiting in the car for quite some time and was beginning to grow frustrated. She decided to start honking her horn in an attempt to get Jimin to get in the car. She revved the engine, as if to reinforce her warning.
"She's getting impatient. I'll leave now" Jimin said and Yoongi looked irritated. Jimin hugged him before making his way into the car. As soon as he entered the passenger seat, Mrs Kim started the car.
"Put on your seatbelt." she said in a dry voice. "It's for your safety," she added, her voice still emotionless. Jimin felt a sense of foreboding as the car slowly rolled out of the driveway.
************
Taehyung left the room that morning and noticed how painfully empty the house was. Taehyung scratched his head thoughtfully. He couldn't help but think something was up.
Since the past few days, his parents had been acting weird. They forced him to stay locked up in the house, seized his phones, credit card and car keys. They had also sacked nearly all the house staff. Taehyung was thinking it was due to their recent financial difficulties but he began to think it was more than that after noticing they had been giving him disapproving looks for quite a while. He was slowly suspecting that they had found out about Jimin. But he doubted it. The likelihood of that happening was very slim. He had wanted to see him to at least find out how he was doing but his current situation made it impossible
He wandered to the kitchen and found Mrs Gong going up and down looking very busy
"Nanny!" He called out to her and she stopped immediately, turning around to face him but when he looked at her, he noticed that she seemed very nervous.
"Nanny, are you okay? Is something going on?"
Mrs Gong forced a smile on her face. "Of course not, what could possibly be happening?"
She looked uncharacteristically nervous and was pacing up and down the corridor as if trying to distract herself but Taehyung wasn't having it.
"Nanny. I know something is going on because all of a sudden, mom and Dad are united in their goal to make my life a living hell!"
He let out a huge sigh. Mrs Gong finally stopped pacing, staring at him with an accusing glare.
"Taehyung, are you sure you aren't hiding anything?"
Taehyung paused for a minute. Of course, he had a secret buried deep within his heart but he couldn't tell anyone about it so he quickly denied it.
"I have no idea what you're talking about"
Mrs Gong sighed heavily. "Oh well, you'll know soon enough"
Her words further heightened Taehyung's confusion. However, the sound of a car entering the compound was a welcome distraction, providing a momentary break in the otherwise tense atmosphere. Taehyung watched as the old woman looked through the window.
"They are here"
"Who?"
She smiled wryly. "Go and find out for yourself"
She shook her head and left the kitchen. Taehyung followed after her meeting his father in the living room. He was surprised to see that the man hadn't left for work. He would often leave the house not just for work but mostly to avoid an argument with his mother.
"Dad..." Taehyung was about to greet him but his father grunted inaudible words and looked away from him. Something was happening today and he had a feeling he was at the center of the whole thing.
The door finally opened and his mother walked inside but behind her was the last person he was expecting to see. He was taken aback by the sudden surprise, his eyes widening in shock at the unexpected guest. His heart sank as he realized that the person behind his mother was Park Jimin. His mind raced, trying to make sense of the situation, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of dread as he realized what this surprise visit could mean.
His mother had a wicked smile on her face as she stood arms akimbo "What? Are you surprised? Did you think we wouldn't find out about the disgrace you brought to this family?"
But Taehyung didn't even hear her. Despite his obliviousness to his mother speaking, Taehyung couldn't help but focus his undivided attention on the young boy, who was trying to conceal his pregnancy with a large coat. Jimin looked so small and pale but he was still so beautiful. His face shone brightly with a mix of emotions, fear being the most prominent. Taehyung couldn't imagine how scared Jimin must have been, to be here right now. It felt like he was dreaming.
"Jimin, what are you doing here? Why are you here?"
But the boy didn't answer, turning his face away instantly. It was clear that he was displeased with Taehyung's presence, and his body language showed it. His silence and the way he quickly turned away told the story, even without a single word uttered.
Taehyung's heart sank. He couldn't blame Jimin for his behavior. It was obvious he was forced to be here and the entire situation was very unpleasant for him.
Mrs Kim scoffed harshly. "Do you not hear me? It seems that you don't know the gravity of what you have done!"
"How did you find out?" Taehyung asked, his voice solemn. His voice surprisingly calm as the waves of a flowing water.
This time, it was his father that answered, his voice was deep and purposeful. His eyes filled with repressed anger. "There were rumors going around that a herring was pregnt for you so we decided to investigate and what we found was unexpected!"
He raised his voice higher. "You are getting married soon and to an influential family for that matter. We need this marriage to take place. We cannot afford for anything to jeopardize it. Definitely not a herring!"
He pointed at Jimin and the boy sank his head lower in shame shivering furiously.
"Do you know what could happen when the truth is revealed? We could loose everything and it will be because of you. This was why we came up with this solution!"
Mrs Kim continued. "He will live with us until he gives birth. The child will belong with this family and he will be fully compensated."
Taehyung couldn't believe his ears. He could remember his last bitter conversation with Jimin. Judging by how he had sounded, he couldn't believe Jimin would be willing to give up his child. He turned to Jimin. "Did you agree to this?"
But again, all he heard from the other was silence. His father continued.
"You shall keep your distance from each other. You shall not talk to each other or have any kind of communication!"
He glared at Jimin. "And you shall live in this house as though you are a ghost! I wouldn't want to run into you"
He heaved heavily."Do you understand?"
Jimin nodded biting his lips hard as he was stopping himself from breaking down. "Yes. I understand!"
Mrs Kim spoke to Mrs Gong. "Please, you can lead Jimin to his room"
"Of course madam"
She took Jimin's bag from him and stretched her hand towards the corridor.
"This way please"
Jimin forced a smile on his face and began to head to the direction Mrs Gong had pointed walking past Taehyung silently but the other grabbed his arm and spun him around so he could face him.
"Kim Taehyung!" Mrs Kim cried out in shock but her son paid her no attention.
"You're not really doing this are you? You have no reason to do this. "
"I'm embarrassed enough as it is Taehyung. Please let me go!" He whispered trying hard to shrug his hands away. Taehyung's gaze softened and he released him.
"I'm sorry"
He could feel the tension in the air, a mix of disappointment and sadness that had been weighing on him ever since his parents had found out about Jimin. The other boy simply sighed and left with Mrs Gong leaving him alone with his parents to face the consequences of his actions but he didn't want to confront his parents right now.
"I'll head to my room. I know I did wrong. I dissapointed you both and I'm sorry for that. You can barrage me another day. Curse at me however way you like but right now, I'll want to be on my own"
They didn't say anything as they watched him disappear from the living room.
I have updated. Sorry for keeping my precious readers waiting for so long. Hope I'll be free to post another chapter
