Chapter 13
Jimin didn't return home. Instead, he stayed out late, sitting on the porch of Yoongi's restaurant and tumbling his phone in his hands. After a while, he stopped what he was doing and gazed at the screen, his finger lingering on Taehyung's number. He was going to call him but he feared that the other wouldn't respond as usual.
Tears spilled down his eyes but he quickly wiped them off. He wasn't going to cry again for the umpteenth time that day. He was just about to stand up when Yoongi called him from behind.
"Hey, I need your help in parking the table and chairs"
Jimin nodded, stood up, and dragged his feet past Yoongi but the other suddenly held him back by the arm peering closely at his face.
"Jimin, what's wrong? You went to the doctor, didn't you? What did the test say?"
Jimin was mute for a couple of seconds before he sighed. "It's nothing. Just a slight fever"
Yoongi's eyes widened. "A slight fever? It doesn't look like it's only a slight fever"
Jimin wiggled away from Yoongi's hold.
"That's what it is okay?"
He was in a foul mood. He hadn't told anyone yet because he was still figuring out what to do with the pregnancy. This was going to put a damper on his life. He would be humiliated and be made a mockery of by everyone. He would be too ashamed to walk the streets. His mother would have a heart attack once she hears this and it would all be his fault but before he made a decision, he had to be sure Taehyung knows as well. He couldn't take any further steps without informing him first.
Yoongi shook his head as he watched Jimin walk away. He did his job silently and left after bidding Yoongi a dry goodbye. He returned home famished and exhausted. Thankfully, there was ice cream remaining at home so he ate them all in a single go. That night, he slept with tears in his eyes. Jimin managed to keep his pregnancy a secret. He hadn't yet figured out what to do with it but there was still enough time. The school was about to resume and the results of their exams were already posted on the student portal. Seeing straight A's in his results didn't excite him as it would have normally done because now, he wasn't so sure he would be able to continue school. He might have to put his education on hold.
"Are you ready for school?" Yeon Seo asked her son that morning after he had prepared and he nodded.
"Yes, I'm ready" he answered. Yeon Seo nodded her head.
"Are you alright Jimin? You've been acting strange these couple of days"
She frowned. "Don't tell me it's because of that boy Taehyung"
Jimin shook his head. "No, it's not Mom. I think you're overthinking things"
She sighed with relief. "That's good. I never liked that boy anyway. I've always felt that he's up to no good."
She brushed away nonexistent dirt from Jimin's clothes and smiled at him. "I know that you both attend the same class so I'm hoping you can keep your distance. Is that okay?"
Jimin barely nodded. If she knew that he was pregnant with that boy she disliked so much, he doubted she would be able to handle it but for now, he would just reassure her.
"I'll do as you say, Mom. I'll keep my distance"
Yeon Seo seemed satisfied and ushered him away.
"That's good. Do good at school"
Jimin left as quickly as he could because he felt so stifled being in his mother's presence. He stopped by Yoongi's restaurant because the other had said he had something to give him.
Yoongi was setting up chairs and tables, arranging them when Jimin entered.
"You should employ someone Yoongi"
The other just flashed him a grave smile. "Yeah but it's hard to hire capable people these days"
Jimin nodded "True but you still need it"
Then he paused as his eyes roamed over the box filled with pastries that were on top of a table.
"You asked me to drop by" he whispered.
"Oh yes!"
Yoongi lifted the pastry box to eye level.
"This is the fresh batch I made for a new recipe. I'm planning to add it to the menu but I need other's opinions"
Without asking permission, Jimin dipped his hand in the box, took one out, and ate it. Yoongi looked at him expectantly.
"How does it taste?"
Jimin's smile widened "Great! So delicious"
Yoongi rolled his eyes "Everything tastes delicious to you but I want serious criticism. I feel there's still something missing"
He thrust the box into his hand.
"Give some to Taehyung for me. I want to know how it tastes to him"
Jimin stared at Yoongi in disbelief.
"But you're aware of my relationship with Taehyung at the moment"
"I Know. It's not that I like how he's treating you but unfortunately, he gives me the most honest reviews. The star cookies I made sold out and have been doing really well due to his critical assessment of"
Jimin grumbled under his breath.
Yoongi smiled "Just suck it up and do this for me. I'm not telling you to do any other thing. Just give him the cookies and let me know how he sees it"
Yoongi thought handing Taehyung a bunch of pastries was going to be that easy. He had no idea how emotionally daunting it was going to be for Jimin. He wasn't only going to talk to him about the baked goods. He was going to talk about the other thing and see how Taehyung was going to handle it.
Sighing regretfully, Jimin grabbed the box and put it inside his back.
"I'll give this to him. I'm sure he's going to like it"
Yoongi looked unsure but nodded anyway. Jimin waved at him before leaving, his mind occupied with so many thoughts as his palm unconsciously caressed his stomach. He boarded the bus and arrived at school on time. As usual, the first day was crowded with students. Everyone was busy getting their schedules for the next semester. Jimin greeted some familiar faces engaging in idle talk with them. He was curious to see Taehyung again, so his eyes searched for him everywhere.
"Didn't he come to school today? It's the first day" Jimin murmured to himself as he sat down on his third lecture for the day. It was just after he had spoken those words to himself that the door opened and Taehyung stepped inside. The teacher was fuming in rage while glaring at him.
"It's only your first day Mr. Kim Taehyung and you're already late. The other teachers have told me about you" he frowned. " Know that I won't tolerate this misdemeanor from you now that you're attending my class"
"Sorry sir" Taehyung grunted under his breath.
"Go to your seat" The man mentioned with a cross look on his face and Taehyung sighed, adjusting the strap of his bag before walking toward an empty seat. He raised his head and immediately caught Jimin's eyes across the room but shifted his gaze away and sat down. It was almost like they hadn't caught each other's look at all. Jimin was offended. Now, it was becoming obvious that Taehyung was avoiding him. He waited until class was over and ran after the other who was already leaving hurriedly.
"Taehyung!" He shouted but he just continued to walk fast, not stopping to turn around. Jimin had always been cautious of being seen publicly with Taehyung but today, he threw all his caution to the wind. He didn't care.
"Wait!" He yelled again and finally caught him by the arm. The other stopped immediately but didn't look at him.
"Face me Taehyung"
He refused so Jimin turned him around and there was a slight frown on Taehyung's face.
"What's going on? Why are you avoiding me?" he asked.
There was no reply. Jimin ran a hand over his hair in frustration.
"Answer me Taehyung! Since you left, you have refused to pick up my calls or answer my text. You promised that you'll keep in contact with me but you completely went back on your words"
He frowned, biting his lips to stop himself from crying.
"What? After sleeping with me, did you realize that you didn't care about me anymore and decided that someone else is better for you? Maybe a woman"
The stoic expression on Taehyung's face fell. His disposition weakened and he looked absolutely miserable.
"That's not...Look, I had no choice!"
Jimin could sense Taehyung was about to say something displeasing and he wasn't prepared to hear it so he reached for his bag, brought out the pastry box, and thrust it toward him. It hit his chest and Taehyung looked confused.
"What's this?"
"Yoongi wanted me to give it to you. It's his new batch and he wanted your honest opinion on it"
Taehyung grabbed it from him.
"Oh...Okay... I'll do that" he murmured under his breath.
"I'll hear your answer tomorrow. Also, you'll have to give me a real explanation for why you treated me this way. From there, I'll decide if you deserve to know the truth"
Taehyung's eyebrows raised. "What truth?"
"You'll see," Jimin said and left, leaving Taehyung staring after him.
Thank you so much for reading and hanging in there for every update. You all are the best.
