Marshmallow Bitey Bits

Luke's mom starts going on a healthy diet, and it affects the rest of her family.

-

Ashton: 5
Luke: 4

----------------------------------------------------------------

It all started at breakfast.

Luke was in his high chair, waiting for his mom to make his marshmallow cereal and toaster strudel.

However, when she finally set his food down before him, Luke stared in stunned confusion at the plate of cut up fruit and orange juice. Not a sugar cube in sight.

He screamed.

Liz gasped and picked him up. "Luke! Are you alright, what's wrong? What happened, are you hurt?" She turned him upside down, checking for injuries.

Luke looked at the plate again. It was just as terrifying upside down. He screamed and cried, kicking his legs and nearly hitting his mom in the face.

She set him back down. "If you're screaming about breakfast you can stop it right now."

Luke huffed at her and let out a small shriek.

"No." She warned.

Testing his limits, he let a long slow wail out.

"You stop that."

Luke glared down at his fruit. "Icky."

"Icky like your attitude." Liz snapped.

Luke gasped in hurt.

"Eat it Lucas, it's healthy. We've been eating way too much sugar in this house." Liz said. "From now on I'm only making healthy meals, which means no more marshmallow Bitey Bits."

Luke sucked in a huge breath, leaning back. Liz widened her eyes. "Lu, don't you da-"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" He cried, kicking his legs and waving his fists. He knocked the plate to the floor. "Dun wan eat healthy! Wan Bitey Bits!"

"Whoa, who put the baby on his period?" Jack asked as he came down the stairs. He went to the pantry and pulled out a box of marshmallow cereal. Luke shrieked and reached for it, making grabby hands.

"Put that away Jack," Liz warned. "And stop feminizing your brother."

"But I'm hungry?" He reached in and took out a handful, keeping only the marshmallow pieces.

Luke was basically being possessed by a demon with the way he was crying and trying to get out of the chair, twisting his body as he tried to reach the cereal.

"Christ be with you!" Jack screamed, throwing the handful at Luke.

Sedated with his Bitey Bits, Luke calmed down and happily shoved them all into his mouth. "Thank."

Liz shot a glare at Jack. "What have I told you about exorcisms with your brother."

"Why is it everytime I come downstairs you guys are talking about exorcisms?" Ben sighed as he came into the kitchen.

"It's really uncanny." Jack agreed.

Liz huffed in frustration. "I'm trying to get us all to eat healthy, which means no sugary cereal," she plucked the box from Jack, "no waffles," she took the frozen waffles from Ben, who was digging through the freezer, "and no. More. Tantrums." She stopped in front of Luke and gave him an evil eye.

He poked his tongue out, a pink marshmallow on the tip.

She sighed and went to the garbage, throwing the sugary items away.

Instantly Jack and Ben were protesting and getting angry at this.

"Mom that's not fair! I need carbs!" Jack whined.

"You just want us to waste away!" Ben cried.

"There's plenty of carbs in healthy food too, like whole wheat bread. And if I wanted you to waste away I would have run off with that Spanish pilot in '93." Liz said. "Now, who wants to talk about exorcisms?"

Ben and Jack looked at each other.

"Me." Jack muttered sullenly.

"They're pretty cool." Ben mumbled, sitting at the table and taking an apple.

Luke wiggled out of his chair and dropped to the floor, rolling out their doggy door and into the yard. He jumped up and ran to Ashton's house, who was next door.

Since he was too small to reach the doorbell and his hands were too soft to make a knock sound, Luke sat in front of their door and gave the super secret and undecodable signal to Ashton, the one they had practised in his room many times.

"ASHON COME DOOR, LUKEY HERE!"

A few moments later, Anne opened the door. "Luke, what are you doing here? Come to see Ashton?"

"Yessis." Luke crawled between her legs and into the kitchen, where Ashton was eating breakfast at the table.

"Ashy!" He tugged on Ashtons pants. "Code Bitey Bits!"

"What Lu talking about?" Ashton asked.

Luke pulled Ashton out of his chair and onto the floor with a loud thud.

"Luke, why are you taking Ashton?" Anne asked as Luke dragged a pouting Ashton up the stairs.

"Bedroom." Luke explained.

Anne winked.

In Ashtons room, Luke leaned against the door and sighed. "Ashy, Lu has problem."

"Eheheheh." Anne could be heard from outside the door.

"Wassat?" Ashton asked.

"Mommy taked all of Lukeys Bitey Bits!" Luke exclaimed. "Throwed away! All sugar cubes too!"

Ashton gasped in horror, his hands flying to his mouth. "No!"

"Yas!" Luke nodded. "Lukey almost had eat fruit!"

"But, Ashy like fruit." Ashton frowned.

"Need plan." Luke continued on. "Need Bitey Bits back."

"Ashy knows how get sugar!" Ashton exclaimed. "Dun have pay for it!"

"But stealing!" Luke gasped. "Bad!"

"No no," Ashton shook his head. "Not stealing! Mikey have sugar! Many sugar!"

"Oh, yea!" Luke beamed. "Steal from Mike!"

"No! Ask nicely from Mikey." Ashton said.

"Fine." Luke sighed.

-

After hoisting Luke up so he could ring the doorbell, Michael answered the door.

Calum peeked out from behind him, his blanket over his head.

"What want?" Michael asked.

"Bitey Bits!" Luke screeched.

"No." Michael shut the door.

Calum looked up at Michael with a knowing look.

Michael looked away. "Don't give that face, the Cally. Dun wan give away precious Bits."

Calum kept his stare up, his large brown eyes shimmering with innocence.

Michael pouted. "No! Don't even like Luke!"

Calum tilted his head.

Michael sighed. "Ugh, fine." He went to the kitchen and grabbed down a box of the cereal, grudgingly taking a last handful.

He opened the door, and saw Luke throwing a major tantrum and Ashton trying to calm him down.

"Here." Michael handed over the box. "Take and go away."

Luke stopped having a fit instantly and beamed, taking the box. "Thank!"

"Whatever." Michael slammed the door shut.

He faced the Calum, who was smiling. "Frick frack you, the adorable Cally." Michael shared the last of the cereal with the Calum.

Calum giggled and rubbed his face against Michael's. "Mwikey."

Michael smiled despite himself. "Love the Cally Pally too."

-

Walking back to his house, Luke munched on the cereal. "Phew, almost died."

"Ashy go finish breaky now," Ashton stopped in front of his house. "See Lu later!"

Luke waved, then crawled through the doggy door to his house. In the kitchen, his family was still talking about exorcisms.

He sat down in the doorway, eating his cereal happily. Nobody noticed until the box was empty.

Liz sighed. "This was a stupid idea. Someone get me a gallon of ice cream."

She felt someone crawling up her leg and she looked down to see Luke. She picked him up.

He held out the last marshmallow. "Mommy!"

She smiled and took it. "Thank you Luke."

They rubbed their noses together and Luke smiled in content. Tomorrow's breakfast would be nothing but Bitey Bits.
