50. she hiccuped

A/N; FLUFF ALERT.

Idk what that means but yea...

50. she hiccuped

It was strange how although Rae was miserably crying, she felt a thousand times better in James's arms. She sniffed, not really caring how they probably were under the gaze of a couple of bystanders, and she didn't care if anyone did recognize her.

All she wanted was for her dog to be okay and for James to stay.

James kept his head on her soft hair, and wrapped his arms around her. She fit perfectly, her small form completely hidden in his sturdy figure, her face laying sideways on his chest, and her sniffing were the only thing he could hear in the hallway.

There weren't many people around, just a few with their pets, some staring at the couple, some minding their own pets.

But James didn't care, he never did. His one hand drew small circles on her back, and one still holding her closer to him. Rae's sobs were still loud, still tearing him apart, piece by piece.

'You know, I hated video games right from the start.' James said, speaking softly as Rae still held him firmly, afraid to let go. He loved how soft her hair was, entangling his fingers with her free locks. 'I hated them. The very thought of playing in the arcade used to piss me off.'

He could feel her breathing slowly losing it's faster pace. Yet, her sniffing was consistent, and he shut his eyes, and continued to narrate his tale.

'We had a little arcade down my neighborhood. Thomas always loved playing there, since mid school and I tagged along because what else was I supposed to do.' He kept comforting her with the drawing of circles on her back, his other hand still softly entangled with her hair. She smelled like vanilla beans and a new fresh day, and he never knew how much he needed this until now. 'So one day, post school, T and I went to the arcade and the boys had a little competition with the games there. And I thought to myself, wow, people are having fun, so maybe games could be fun too you know.' He could feel her easing a bit, knowing that she could hear him.

'So like an idiot, I sat on one, Ms Pac-Man, I think, and tried, I swear, I tried but not only did I lose...' James chuckled, sighing as he remembered the day. 'I was the least scorer and a little girl of 5 beat my score too, and in 2 minutes that too.'

James felt Rae lessening her grip on him, her sniffing almost gone and she was breathing softly now.

'And everyone from school started name-calling me. Literally calling me Miss Pac-Man for the entire year of my seventh grade.' Rae wiped her running nose with her sleeve again, a small chuckle from her causing James's heartbeats to ease. 'And ever since, I swore, I will never play such games.'

Rae let go of her hold and just rested her head on his chest. James's soft hold and completely off topic discussion worked efficiently. Not just his words, his soft heartbeats were soothing her anxieties too.

'You're bluffing.' She hiccuped, sniffing softly. 'No one loses in Ms Pac-Man.'

'Not unless it's me, Rae. I sucked at video games.' He smiled, as she smiled softly.

'I'm sorry kids were mean to you.' She said, voicing in their peaceful silence. 'But, can you blame them?' She teased, as James softly laughed, his body was warming up to hers and she liked it.

'Yea. But that's why I dislike video games.'

She broke the hug finally, and he let go of his hands from around her as she faced him, wiping her teary face with her long sleeves.

Rae was disheveled and looked like a disaster with her messy hair and tear strained face but to James she was just as beautiful as she was at the party, the other day.

Or maybe even prettier.

'I cannot believe a 5 year old girl beat your score.' She smiled, her eyes meeting his.

'Well, wait until you see me play.' He smiled at her, grazing his fingers over her cheek and softly tucking her hair behind her ear.

The OT doors opened and both Rae and James immediately stood on their feet, awaiting something hopeful. Rae's hand immediately held onto James's and she pressed it firmly. He held onto her hand, rubbing his thumb over her soft hand as the VET approached them.

'I'm right here, sweetie.' He said from behind her, as Rae nodded, holding his hand, not wanting to let go.

Apparently Mika had chewed on the toy a little too hard and one part was swallowed by him while the other small one was stuck in his throat. While the VET had managed to get the piece stuck out, they had to wait some 10 so hours for help the dog to pass out the big piece naturally.

Rae stubbornly refused to leave Mika's side and waited by him for the entire night. The dog was whimpering, and softly howling, whining even and Rae sat next to him, softly speaking to him and rubbing his fur till he fell asleep.

New places and strangers often confused and scared Mika and she didn't wanna leave him with any discomfort. With her, James waited too, although not wanting to disturb the duo, he stood outside.

He was glad that Mika was fine and in another day or so he'd be back home too but he was extremely worried for the sleepless girl who was still vulnerable.

'Rae, you need to rest,' James said, once she got out. 'Mika is resting now.'

'But, James, I cannot leave him. What if he wakes up and... starts...and then howls... what if...' But James held her shoulders, silencing the rambling girl. 'Sweetheart, Mika is on sedatives. And don't you wanna be as energetic as he will be when he wakes up?'

She met his eyes, too tired to argue or even speak and it was decided that she'd be home for a few hours of rest.

However, James didn't want her to be alone, even when she insisted she was fine and hence Rae was heading to James's house. She was so tired and almost on the verge of another breakdown, as she walked behind James.

Her mind was still stuck on Mika and although her body was shutting down, her over working mind wouldn't stop thinking about her precious dog.

It was 8 in the morning as James entered the pin and opened the door, helping Rae enter in.

'Momo?' James called out loudly, 'Momo we're home.'

Rae took tiny steps in the huge apartment, and watched a plump short, elderly woman walk out of some room towards them. She beamed at James and then looked at Rae, her softening eyes making Rae feel so much better already.

'Momo, this is Rae... Rachel.' James introduced them.

The lady cooed, walking closer and held Rae's hands, comforting the girl. Rae felt tears sting her eyes as Momo rubbed Rae's arms. 'Oh BB, aww sweetheart. I heard what happened.' Rae smiled sadly, as Momo took her in her embrace. 'You need a hug?'

'I do need a hug.' Rae cooed, in her soft meek voice as Momo hugged her, rubbing her back.

Rae felt a so much better already as she hugged the elderly lady.

'Come, I'll make you some hot chocolate.' She said in her sweet voice. 'And James, look at how you've treated the poor girl.' She eyed the confused tall man.

Rae looked at James who was startled at the accusation. 'What?'

'What what? Go freshen up.'

Rae smiled a little, as James sighed and with a small okay he left.

'And don't you mind James, he's a little awkward with everyone.' She beamed, holding Rae's hand and walking her to the room, 'And a little more with the people he loves.'
